I was SO excited to read it after loving The Last Flight, but man did it fall flat. I wanted to DNF it, and kind of regret not.
I felt like the pacing and story just didn’t flow. The switching between characters was awkward and didn’t make sense at times. There was too much going on in the past and not enough present. Both characters drove me nuts! I didn’t care for either of their chapters.
There were so many ways this book could have gone to make it better, but it just missed the point for me. Probably due to high expectations 🤷🏻♀️
Read if you like
💜 Contemporary thrillers
💙 a strong feminist characters
💜 Alternating timelines and POVs
This might be one of my favorite books ever. There was so much going on in this book, and it was all intertwined, and it was devious, and I loved every second of it.
The story is told from alternating points of view (which I love). Kat is a journalist trying to get a story on Meg, a woman who put Kat in a dangerous position in the past, and now Kat is trying to expose her. Meg has some questionable values and morals, and everyone in her wake seems to end up with nothing by the time Meg has removed herself from their life. But Meg thinks she is doing the world a favor and only destroying the lives of those who deserve it. Is there a method to her madness? And what about Kat? Will she get her revenge on Meg, or can Meg see her coming from a mile away and take her for what she is worth as well?
So many unsavory things going on in this story. But all of it made me feel for Meg and what, or rather why, she was doing what she was doing. I thought Meg (but honestly, Julie Clark for creating this) was brilliant and well thought out. The detail and process that went into Meg's plans was astounding. I could not believe the level of detail and organization that had to have gone into this story to make it work and be believable and still entertaining.
If I keep talking I will ruin the surprises. Go get this book and read it yourself. 5 stars, top 3 of 2022 for me, and one of my all-time favorite books.
This was fast-paced and intense! I didn’t think she could outdo The Last Flight, but I think she did.
I love how she focuses on 2 female characters.
Sometimes, books like this work because there’s no huge, ridiculous twists. There are surprises, which will keep the reader engaged.
One of my favorite books of the year; loved the cameos!
4.5 stars!
Meg Williams is a chameleon-like con artist. She will become whoever and whatever she needs to in order to successfully target her victims. Kat Roberts is a reporter who has been waiting for Meg to resurface. When Meg shows up close to Kat’s town using her real name posing as a real estate agent, Kat can’t believe her luck. As she starts to investigate Meg’s schemes, she starts to question the culpability of her enemy.
This novel features two extremely likeable female protagonists who make the story! Thanks to @sourcebooks and @netgalley for my review copy. Meg is so resilient and driven and I thought Kat was also a really strong woman. I loved some of the more serious topics that were covered such as sexual abuse and gambling addiction. I thought they were depicted in a manner that made them seem like real issues while still being woven into a thriller which can be difficult to do. I really enjoyed Clark’s writing style and the ending! The multiple POVs and timelines kept me turning pages. I will be back for more by this author.
Julie Clark just gifted the world with a novel I didn’t even know I needed. THE LIES I TELL is a downright addictive revenge thriller featuring a badass conwoman who not only meticulously plans everything, but also has a heart and the ability to make the reader cheer for her. I loved the alternating narratives between Meg and Kat, giving the reader a chance to see how they were both forming their plans and their reactions to each other as they got closer. Clark smartly gave glimpses into Meg’s past that were detailed and allowed the reader to truly have insight to her cons and the rationale behind them. The pacing of the story was quick, but it didn’t feel rushed for a timeline that happens over the course of several weeks.
This is the second book I’ve read by Julie Clark and I think it’s safe to say she has become an auto-buy author for me! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
A huge thank you to Sourcebooks for my gifted copy!
Narrated by two female characters - but can you believe either of them? This was twisty, dramatic and suspenseful in all the best ways! I love the women taking down men storyline - FUCK THE PATRIARCHY!
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

📖 My Review: What a GREAT read! I was captivated from the very beginning. Two women, both out to avenge the wrongs they have suffered in the past. But was it revenge or poetic justice??? An intense page turner that was impossible to put down.
I loved the alternating POVs from Kat & Meg with just enough of their backstory each time to keep up the suspense.
This was my first Julie Clark book & I must say the writing is fantastic. Great character portrayals that were easy to relate to & feel in their moments. If intense domestic thrillers are your genre then I highly recommend The Lies I Tell. Just remember…”the difference between justice and revenge comes down to who’s telling the story”.
Thank you to #NetGalley, Julie Clark & Sourcebooks Landmark for this ARC. This is my voluntary review.
Meg is a con artist. Kat is a journalist. Their paths crossed ten years ago, and Kat’s life was changed forever. Now Meg is back and Kat is determined to expose her for the fraud she is, but as she gets closer to Meg she realizes there’s more to the story.
“The difference between justice and revenge comes down to who is telling the story.”
Oh, hell yes. I loved this book! I don’t want to give too many details about the plot because I don’t want to spoil anything, but will say it was fast paced, told in dual perspectives with flashbacks from both characters that were perfectly timed to add tension, feminist AF, with morally grey characters, twists and surprises, and (my favorite) revenge.
I haven’t read Clark’s previous book The Last Flight yet, but I just got it as a BOTM add-on, so it’s going to the top of my list.
This is a perfect, bingeable pool/beach read, or read it in winter - that’s none of my business - just read it!
Amazing! So immersive and grabs your attention from the get-go. You kind of want to think of Meg as someone who takes justice into her own hands while also benefiting herself. The way the main two characters were introduced and how they connected are totally unexpected, from the premise I thought Kat was conned by Meg but I was wrong. I didn't know where the story would go and how it would all end. It was thrilling from start to finish.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. It had twists and turns and I wanted to find out what was going to happen. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to others.

Julie Clark is the New York Times bestselling author of The Ones We Choose and The Last Flight, which was also a #1 international bestseller and has been translated into more than twenty languages. She lives in Los Angeles with her family and a golden doodle with poor impulse control.
“Does this worry you? It should.”
Kat has spent her life chasing a story she is convinced will change everything. Meg has spent her life getting revenge. When their paths cross, Kat thinks she can finally get the final pieces of the puzzle. But Meg has one more surprise before she disappears.
This was a modern-day Robin Hood, and I loved it. I could not put this book down. The character development was so beautifully done, and I enjoyed how the story was told.
A nonlinear timeline with alternating narrators, with so many subtle twists along the way. This was a beautifully written and dynamically powerful presentation.
I loved the female empowerment and the idea of making things right. I found everything about this book a win. The writing style was well versed without being wordy.
A home run on all fronts.
vengeful women taking down sleazy men >>>
if you find yourself cheering on amy dunne from gone girl then you need to read this book.
it’s so sad, yet so bad ass at the same time.
meg and kat are two of my new fav fmc.
the ending was actually PERFECTLY. it’s a huge plot twist, but so damn good.
the whole book entraps you, and at first you find yourself siding more and more with meg and seeing the real versions of everyone she’s around.
absolutely fantastic
LOVED IT!!!! Fantastic storyline, fast-paced, intricate plot, awesome characters. This is a must read. Kat blames Meg for one night that derailed her life ten years ago. Meg is a con artist. An unlikely friendship forms, but do either of them trust the other? And what game is each playing? Both women want justice - but for whom?
"Two women. Many aliases.
Meg Williams. Maggie Littleton. Melody Wilde. Different names for the same person, depending on the town, depending on the job. She's a con artist who erases herself to become whoever you need her to be—a college student. A life coach. A real estate agent. Nothing about her is real. She slides alongside you and tells you exactly what you need to hear, and by the time she's done, you've likely lost everything.
Kat Roberts has been waiting ten years for the woman who upended her life to return. And now that she has, Kat is determined to be the one to expose her. But as the two women grow closer, Kat's long-held assumptions begin to crumble, leaving Kat to wonder who Meg's true target is."

I flew through The Lies I fell in one day. I loved it. It’s not your typical thriller premise and I found the con woman storyline so compelling.
Loved Meg and Kat. They are both very relatable characters. I haven’t read Julie Clark before but I’ll be back!
Loved this read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I just love this author. THE LAST FLIGHT was one of my favorite books of 2020 and I also loved this one!
____________________________
It’s told in alternating POV, Meg and Kat. They both have their plans and motives. One is a con artist and one is seeking revenge.
It’s full of lies and deceit and completely binge-worthy. This is the perfect Summer pool or beach read! 📚👙☀️
I usually read romances but this book just hooked me with the first line and didn’t let go. The twists were like wait what and these characters just kept surprising me on every single page. I wanted more when the book was finished and that is the sign of a great story in my opinion.
If you haven't read Julie Clark's previous thriller, The Last Flight, hurry up and get out there. It was phenomenal so I was extremely excited to receive this ARC. One of the best parts of The Last Flight, for me, was the author's incredible ability to develop characters that you could really feel emotions towards and, more importantly, with and this book is absolutely no different. It's twisted and messes with your head but does do a great job of resolving it all by the end. I know this book will be pushed on customers looking for quality thrillers and I truly can't wait to see what she does next!
Another winner from Julie Clark! I loved this cat and mouse story between Kat and Meg. They were both complicated main characters and I really enjoyed seeing their stories play out over alternating points of view and different timelines. I love a good con artist story and this one kept me engaged from page one. At first I thought this book might be confusing but Clark did a great job of writing this twisty story and it might be my favorite by her!
Wow. What a fun, twisty, thrilling ride. This is different from the other thrillers I've read (in a good way!) I loved the anti-heroine, Meg. She was a fighter, determined, thrilling, twisty, patient, cunning, and so much more. I enjoyed the way the story was told from two strong female characters. The writing was amazing and fast paced, the way I like my thrillers! This was my first read by Julie Clark, but I think I need to go read her first book.
Two women working together are a force to be reckoned with.
This phrase is repeated throughout the book on several different occasions. Very funny considering there are two female main characters but they aren't working together. Kind of. I felt like the phrase Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned might have been a little more applicable. Meg has waited 10 years for revenge. But so has Kat. And when Meg makes her move so does Kat. Getting in to both their heads as they proceed to seek their justice was a bit addicting. What brought them to this point and what is each of their next steps? It made putting the book down very difficult. Maybe the original phrase is directed at the reader instead of the other characters in the book? After all, the story of these two women is a force to be reckoned with!
