Enthusiastic 5 stars.

This is a well-crafted, well-written page-turner. I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Both Meg and Kat are likable, well-developed, strong, complicated (in the best way) female characters. I'd love to read more about them in follow-up books.

Told in expertly woven together alternating viewpoints, on two different timelines, the story could have been confusing but it is not at all. The two seemingly different women are more alike than either initially thinks. The narration dives deep into the psyches and motivations of the two women and their unwavering quest to seek justice for the past and rewrite the future.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book for individual readers and book clubs, alike.

Thank you to #Netgalley and #Sourcebooks for the ARC of this book.

"The difference between justice and revenge comes down to who's telling the story."

For all of you who have read The Last Flight, Julie Clark is BACK! (If you haven't read The Last Flight, this is your sign to do it)

This one was equally fun and surprising and I was instantly invested in both Meg's and Kay's stories and perspectives.

From GoodReads synopsis : "The Lies I Tell is a twisted domestic thriller that dives deep into the psyches and motivations of two women and their unwavering quest to seek justice for the past and rewrite the future."

That's the best way to sum it up without giving too much away. I recommend not even reading the full synopsis and going in blind.

This story spans ten years and several mini plots all orchestrated to fit together perfectly at the end. This is fast paced at times and a slow burn at times, but the payoff is worth it in the end.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book will be out on June 21st.

I was really excited to get my first ARC book and this was a fantastic place to start! Clark does a great job of making you think you know where the story is going, but then switching it up. Sometimes I find authors try to do twists for the sake of doing twists and but Clark executed the points perfectly. I never knew who to trust which is perfect for a book about a con artist and I really enjoyed the fact that just because she was a woman, it wasn't just a gimmick. I look forward to reading more of Julie's books! Thanks NetGalley!

I haven't read a book by this author before, but she was quickly added to my list of authors to keep around. Twists and turns abound in this novel about a con artist and her travels. Why does she choose different names. What is really going on?

Two women on the path to revenge. This author has cornered the market on con-artists. How she makes the reader root for the grifter is a skill I hope she never stops using. Now she needs to get busy and write the Kat/Nate story because she has to know that her readers are waiting to she how revenge will be exacted.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to read and review this title.

What a ride! I loved Julie Clark's previous book, The Last Flight, and I think I enjoyed this one even more. It was such a great story and I was basically unable to put it down; I read it every free moment I had!

Similar to The Last Flight, Ms. Clark weaved a story of two women together: One was a con-artist out for revenge against a man who wronged her and her mother years ago, and the other is a journalist trying to uncover the con(s) and expose her as a grifter. I loved the slow burn of the story, and the ending was incredibly satisfying.

The book comes out in June -- and will be the perfect beach or pool read!

I’ve been reading so many books lately with unreliable & unlikable characters. The Lies I Tell was no different. Although I enjoyed reading this one, it also didn’t give me that wow, shocking twist factor I was hoping for.

I love reading about con-artists and their diabolical plans. Especially when their plans involve doing something good. I read a blurb from someone that said this one is like the feminist Robin Hood, and I can definitely agree with that; rob from the rich to give to the poor. I was expecting more plot twists and shocking “omg” moments and that just didn’t happen for me. However, the story was still an enjoyable one. 3.5 ⭐️s (rounded down to 3 on Netgalley & Goodreads)

A big thank you to Netgalley, Sourcebooks, and Julie Clark for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Julie Clark, you have done it again! What a ride. I promise, you will not be able to put this one down.

This is a story about a con artist and one of her victims (though not in the way you think) who just happens to be a reporter. The reporter is looking to get revenge by writing a story exposing Meg, the con artist. This story unravels in a way you would not imagine with sympathy for both women. The story is heavier than I expected (spoiler alert: rape story line may be triggering) but added to the depth and layers of the novel. I kept waiting to find the next twist--and although there were surprises, they were all so obvious that I'm not quite sure they can be classified as a "twist.. yet, you will still not see it coming. That's the genius of it!

I will undoubtedly read anything Julie Clark writes. The suspense and characters will suck you in from the beginning and leave you satisfied.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

This is a book about a con artist who is being tracked by a journalist. I liked it but it wasn't *quite* as engaging as her prior book, The Last Flight.

I loved the author's first book, and couldn't wait to read this one. It was a good thriller with strong female characters, but I found I didn't get into it quite as deeply as her first one. Still a great read, just slower at times and the ending was not as satisfying as the lead up.

This book was amazing. Utterly engrossing and captivating, I couldn’t stop reading and told everyone I know all about it. The two main characters, Meg and Kat, are both likable and relatable leads, and you can’t help being engaged in their stories and hoping they’ll succeed. The first part of the book is dedicated to Meg’s background story and her first con, with predator professor Cory, a truly despicable individual who has a pattern of grooming young girls, included one of Meg’s former high school friends who dropped out of school point blank. She was really nice to Meg when no one else was, and now Meg wants to return the favour, discovering what really happened to her and making Cory pay. This was my favorite part of the book and I wouldn’t have minded if it was longer. Honestly, I would have loved to read about each of Meg’s cons in detail, she was so smart and interesting and I loved learning how she cleverly destroyed horrible, undeservedly rich and powerful men. But Meg’s real target is aspiring senator Ron, who stole her family house and left Meg and her mother to live in their car when Meg was just a girl. She’s a woman now, and she wants revenge. Kat is a journalist and she thinks some of Meg’s past actions hurt her too. Now that Meg is back, she sees a chance to expose her for the con artist she really is and finally get the career she deserves. She befriends Meg, but the closer they get, the more Kat learns about Meg’s story, the less certain she is that revenge is the best course of action… At least for her. I loved this book, both heroines and the satisfying ending! Julie Clark has become one of my auto-buy authors and I can’t wait for her next! Thanks to Sourcebooks Landmark for allowing me to access an early digital copy of this thrilling novel.

You will be drawn into this story of Con artist Meg and journalist Kat who is trying to figure out what she is up to, especially now that she has come home. Is Meg trying to right the wrong or take for herself? Is Kat on to her deceitfulness but missing much as someone is betraying her and who? This is such a good read, hard to put down and full of surprises. Defiantly in the top of my favorite books.

Did not want the lies to end. Two women deceiving each other until the very end, weave a tale of a unlikely friendship built on lies and a complicated past. Despite ghosts of their past, this story proves that good can come from bad. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I haven’t stopped thinking about the characters long after the last page.

The Lies I Tell was my first book from Julie Clark, and it did not disappoint! The novel quickly gets you invested in the two female main characters (Meg and Kat), and keeps you roped in through the twists and turns. Meg has spent her life trying to disguise herself and manipulate her way into people's lives, and bank accounts. One of her "missions" impacts Kat Roberts, a journalist, looking to expose her. As these women become friends and get to know each other, their own assumptions about their motive toward each other becomes blurred. I was able to read through this book quickly because I just had to know how it would end. If you enjoy domestic thrillers, I highly recommend and believe you will devour this book. It will make a stellar beach read! I thank Net Galley and Julie Clark for the advanced copy. It was a pleasure, and I look forward to reading more books from Julie Clark!

Have you watched Inventing Anna on Netflix and want to read something in that same vein? I haven’t watched, but I can still say this is the book for you. The story follows Meg—who manages to pull off a series of long cons—and Kat who is on a mission to expose Meg. The chapters alternate between the two characters with most chapters being in the present, but some in the past as well. The author gives a perfect amount of backstory for each character which was important to the story overall. Meg’s long cons were so intriguing and detailed and confirmed for me that I’d never be able to pull that off. Round of applause for the author for such an intricate story that was suspenseful at the same time. I also loved that this story didn’t turn out how I expected and its overall message as things wrapped up.

Meg William's, at least that's the name she's using today, is a life long grifter. As such she spends a great deal of time doing research on her next target. One of Meg's abilities is to get them to trust her which makes her very dangerous.
Kat Roberts is an investigative report and she's been on Meg's trail for years trying to catch her to make her pay for what Kat thinks Meg is responsible for in Kat's past.
They'll soon cross paths and as Kat watches Meg work she knows Meg must pay. But she doesn't realize is that Meg may seduce and swindle her targets she also does so with the best intentions. Meg is on the side of justice but it's not for her.

This is an absolute must read. Julie Clark will make you love this deceitful grifter and cheer her success.

Thank you #NetGalley, #SourceBooksLandmark #TheLiesITell for this ARC.

As I was reading, I’d tell myself one more chapter but just couldn’t put The Lies I tell down. This book kept me guessing and definitely had shocking moments. Julie Clark does a fantastic job giving the reader insight into what drives the two main characters, Kat and Meg.. The ending was perfect and would love to see a sequel.

I finished “The Lies I Tell” in about 24 hours - I can’t remember the last time I did that! This great new mystery by Julie Clark is so intricately plotted, and absolutely keeps you guessing.

In this thriller, journalist Kat has been tracking a con artist, Meg, for a decade after a traumatic experience that began with a call from Meg. Meg’s now in her last major con - one that’s deeply personal for her. Kat’s able to ingratiate herself and starts questioning whether she knows the truth about Meg and her motivations after all.

This book is nuanced and suspenseful, and one of my favorites so far this year. I also recommend Julie Clark’s first mystery, “The Last Flight.” Now I can’t wait for her next one!
