I just finished The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark and it is sooooo good! I haven't read her other book, The Last Flight, but definitely plan to now. This one comes out June 21st and I know we will be seeing it everywhere.

Quick synopsis:

Meg Williams is a con artist. Kat Roberts, a young journalist, has spent the majority of her career trying to find Meg and figure out her motives behind tricking men, stealing their money, and ruining their reputations. She plans to write an explosive tell-all that will expose her. When the two finally meet, they form a complicated relationship and Kat starts to question who Meg really is and her end game.

You've gotta read this one! It is so well-written and I flew through it. I loved the messages of girl power, sticking it to the man, and healing after trauma. Add it to your #tbr! ❤

Thanks to @netgalley and @bookmarked for the early copy!

This could be a handbook for a budding con artist! Meg is a successful con artist and returns to Los Angeles after her mother was conned. Meg wants to put that right wiyh her own con. Kat is a journalist wanting to write a story to expose Meg. As I read I kept changing my mind as to what would happen next. I actually liked Meg more than Kat. This was a fascinating story, the end was unexpected but I loved it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“The Lies I Tell” is a first time read by Julie Clark, new author to this reader. This story brings to my memory of another story I read by Mary Kubica, who I solely enjoy as an author. I didn’t know what to expect from this story as the description appeared to be interesting. Once started, it was difficult putting it down…my only option to do so was sleep. This was such a wonderfully well-written and riveting psychological thriller, a genre that I typically don’t read that often.

Meg Williams has many names and lived in quite a few towns. A con artist by career due to the difficult childhood she had growing up without a mother and forced from her home to live out of her van. And as con artist goes, you can’t tell the real from the unreal but when she is in form, she leaves her victims with nothing. Then there is Kat Roberts, a journalist that crossed paths with Meg…a woman who upended her life. Ten years later, their paths cross not by chance, and Kat is determined to expose Meg for what she is or will the tables turn again for her. Both women become friends, and both are determined to seek revenge for past wrongs.

The plot is fast paced and captivates you right from the beginning. Both characters are strong intelligent and strong in this story and I was not contemplating their ulterior motives towards one another. This is one of those stories that plays on your sympathy for the main characters. Not knowing who to side with from one chapter to the other as they both are narrators in the book. This was oh such a wonderful book that had an unexpected ending that made me come away exhaling. I have not read the “Last Flight” by Julie Clark, and if it is as good as this one, I welcome the read on my TBR. Highly recommend this read.

Thank you NetGalley and SourceBooks Landmark for this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are my own.

I really enjoyed "The Lies I Tell" by Julie Clark. The book tells the story of reporter Kat and con-artist Meg in alternating perspectives. The book was fast-paced and very twisty and interesting! I especially liked how Clark did a good job of not villainizing Meg. It was fun seeing a con-artist at work from both her own perspective and from the perspective of Kat, the reporter who is trying to expose her. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fast-paced thriller!

This book is not quite a mystery or suspense as one might assume from Clark's debut The Last Flight, but I really enjoyed how this fast-paced character-driven story about a cat-and-mouse game between two complex women unfolded.

I absolutely loved both lead characters, especially the anti-heroine Meg. Kat's growth throughout the story was also satisfying, especially her realization at the end that her abuser (and not another one) was ultimately to blame for her trauma.

The commentary on men and how they use their power against the second sex is timely, yet doesn't feel heavy-handed. I wasn't expecting this to be able beat The Last Flight for me, but it did not disappoint!

Wow, wow wow wow!! This book was brilliant. I loved every second of it. I feel like the author should maybe be under investigation for the way she thinks lol!! Such an amazing book, highly recommend!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to preview The Lies I Tell byJulie Clark. I was all in after the first chapter. Clark tells the story of two women. She introduces them and you start to make your own opinions on who’s the good person and as you read on she flips the script so many times.
Clark truly has the reader evaluating value systems and how women interact in today’s society.
Loved this book. It had me immediately and thinking about it for days
5 stars

Who is Meg Williams really? Is she the super-successful real estate agent, front desk clerk at YMCA, a college student, a friend or someone to be afraid of? Kat Roberts is on the hunt for Meg. As a young, newspaper report, Meg upended Kat's life and it's never been the same. Now, is it Kat's turn to find the truth about Meg and expose her? How will that play out now that Meg is working for Kat? SO, many questions! Throw in a police officer boyfriend with a gambling problem and a wealthy real estate developer running for office. This is a twisty, windy story with a villan you can't help but like...or least cheer for. The ending is great and not what I expected. This is a good one! Fast paced, but still written with meticulous details that must have been well researched. Thank you Net Galley and Sourcebooks for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. Very enjoyable. I recommend it!

The Lies I Tell is the story of Meg and Kat trying to overcome traumas of their pasts and the tangled web of lies and deceit.

This book was so good I wish I could’ve listened to it on audio because all I wanted to do was finish it. I definitely think this is a read-in-a-day book if you have the time. It’s captivating, fast paced and well-written.

Like The Last Flight, The Lies I Tell is a dual-POV and goes back and forth in time to build the story. The POV and timeline switching was easy to follow and built up the suspense of the story. I loved the ending too! I highly recommend that everyone adds this to their summer reading list!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for the ARC!

This was a really good read. I liked all the dimensions to the characters, especially Meg. You are never sure if she is good or bad. This would also be a good how to manual on getting revenge!

If you loved Julie's book the Last Flight, then you will really love this one. The characters of Meg and Kat are so richly developed. You don't know what is truth and what is a lie throughout the entire book. I couldn't put in down and it had me guessing and rooting for each girl until the very end. This book takes you deep into the psyches and motivations of each character. Be prepared for a wild ride.

TWO WOMEN, OUT FOR REVENGE!!

Once again Julia Clark centers her very character driven novel around two women.

Meg had a wonderful life when she was young, living in her grandparents' beautiful home. That is until her mother fell for a con-artist. She lost everything and Meg and her mother were forced to live in their car. This was a trauma she will never forget.

Now Meg has returned to LA after a 10 year absence, looking for revenge for what happened a decade ago. She has spent the last ten years getting better and better at reinventing herself. She has gone by many names and has left more than a few men wondering why and how this woman has upended their lives. Sometimes Meg has cost them their fortunes, sometimes exposed their lies.

SO MANY LIES!!!

Ten years ago Kat was a young journalist working on a big story when Meg called in a tip, the name of a man who might help with the story. What occurred after that tip has left Kat a weaker person, a woman afraid of men and all of their lies. Ten years later she is still a copy editor and she holds Meg responsible.

Now that Meg is back in town, she has plans to expose her for the con artist she is.

SO MANY LIES!!!

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK:

This is a very quickly paced domestic thriller and the story flowed well from past to present.

The characters were well described with all of their faults and strengths. They were relatable.

With each chapter we find out more and more about Meg, what she is really after and why she came back.

My favorite quote that Meg’s mother taught her “TWO WOMEN WORKING TOGETHER ARE A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH”. Kudos to strong female protagonists!!

This is my second book by Ms. Clark and I have highly enjoyed both of them. I can recommend this one to anyone who enjoys a fast paced, cat and mouse thriller.

Many thanks to NetGalley and to Sourcebooks Landmark for this reader copy. I enjoyed The Last Flight and was so looking forward to Julie Clark's newest novel. It did not disappoint. The story moved forward at a quick clip, told by both Meg, an elusive con artist, and Kat, a journalist whose career took a sharp turn ten years ago after an encounter with Meg. Kat finally has her chance to expose Meg and hopefully finally get her big break. Smart and real, this novel is such a fun one!

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC of this upcoming thriller by Julie Clark!

Meg and Kat - which one is the bad girl? The con artist or the reporter? As the story develops,
the lines between them grow vague. Meg is a down-on-her-luck college student who's living in her car when we meet her. Her mother has died and she's struggling, can't get a break. Kat is a reporter who's trying to break her first big story, fighting to belong in the man's world of news. And her boyfriend has a gambling problem.

As the story takes off, we watch Meg transform herself into an avenger, a con artist, and a thief. She's a survivor but as she learns more about her new boyfriend her goals change. Kat is fighting to get a break in her field. One choice she makes will lead her down a dangerous path and she'll blame Meg. But when the two meet again and she digs deeper, Kat finds out some very interesting details. Which one is telling the truth and which one will win in the end?

This tale kept me on my toes, reading long into the night. 'The Lies I Tell' is a story about female friendship and how far one will go to make things right in the her world. Who's telling the truth and who can you trust? This was an excellent book and should be another big hit for author, Julie Clark. Five Big Stars!

Another great read from Julie Clark! I absolutely loved The Last Flight so I was super excited about this new novel and I am SO happy to have received an e-arc! Clark has a way of grabbing me right from the very beginning and keeps me engaged all the way through. I just absolutely love her writing! I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both Meg and Kat. Such an entertaining read and I would definitely recommend this one!

Wow wow wow Julie Clark has done it again! I loved this thriller so much- perhaps more than The Last Flight! The thriller part of the story alongside this desire to put men who mistreat women in their place and help accountable had the perfect balance. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a thriller with a bit of substance and strong female characters!
