Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Publishing for granting my wish for this book in exchange for an honest review.
Meg has always been a great grifter, even before she knew it. She also possessed the ultimate knowledge on how to manipulate power-driven, corrupt men: tell them what they want to hear.
Kate is a journalist whose life turned upside-down, and she is determined to expose Meg for who she truly is.
Full of psychological suspense, “The Lies I Tell” takes you on a journey full of masterful character development and unconventional redemption for women who have lost their voice.
Clarke has done it again. I read “The Last Flight” last year and cannot recommend her writing enough.

Julie Clark has done it again. I love The Last Flight, and I loved The Lies I Tell. Is it time for her next novel yet? I’m ready for it.

The Lies I Tell is told from the perspective of Meg and Kat. While Meg doesn’t know it, years prior, they crossed paths. While the initial interaction wasn’t note worthy for Meg, it was earth shattering for Kat. Now, ten years later, Meg has resurfaced and Kat is determined to make her pay.

This book was remarkable, I didn’t want to put it down. I only set it down the first day because we had dinner reservations and steak is delicious. This book is so twisted and is bound to keep you hooked until the last chapter.

For me this book was a 5/5 star read! Keep an eye out for it! Special thanks to the publisher for my ARC copy via NetGalley.

I will be adding Julie Clark to the list I have of must read authors. Her newest story, The Lies I Tell, is excellent. Ms Clark has the reader rooting for the con artist. The Lies I Tell really has two main characters, Meg and Kat. Each of their chapters are page turners. I want to thank NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for an early copy to review.

This author does it again. She has managed to create a larger than life villain who keeps surprising you until the end.

The Lies I Tell was my first read from Ms. Clark, and I was drawn in by both the premise and the captivating cover.

I enjoyed the first person dual POVs, but struggled a bit with the level of day-to-day details throughout. There was just the right amount of suspense to keep me turning pages, though. It did slow down quite a bit in the middle, which took away from the “thriller” vibes, but I absolutely loved the ending.

Thank you to @NetGalley and SourceBooks Landmark for the gifted eARC!

Thank you for this ARC! I loved The Last Flight and was so excited to read The Lies I Tell. I was immediately pulled into the world of Meg and Kat. Just as with her previous book, Clark writes characters that you could empathize with. They don't make poor choices or come across as unlikeable, which is true of so many thrillers. I couldn't read fast enough and was surprised by several of the twists. I appreciate that there aren't any real trigger warnings with CIark's thrillers and they are not scary or violent. I highly recommend this for anyone that loves thrillers or wants to try out the genre for the first time.

Meg Williams has gone by many names and has had many different lives. She’s a con artist, and through precise planning, she can be whomever she needs to be to get the job done.

Kat Roberts is a journalist who has been hunting Meg for the past 10 years. Now that she has her in her sights, she won’t let her disappear until she gets what she wants from her…

…Revenge.

However, nothing is truly as it seems, which both women quickly find out.

This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022, after loving Julie Clark’s debut, The Last Flight. I’m thrilled to say it did not disappoint.

This thriller is unputdownable. The characters are complex, and everything about the plot is intriguing…and continued to intrigue me the further I got.

Those looking for major twists won’t find that here. What you see is pretty much what you get. However, that doesn’t mean there are zero surprises in store. My thoughts on the characters evolved, and the writing is absolutely phenomenal - swift, fast-paced, and brilliant.

I highly recommend, and look forward to Clark’s next phenomenal book…which I hope she’s writing now.

Another great suspense thriller by Julie Clark! I loved the 2 strong female characters of Kat and Meg. I loved how they made Meg a sympathetic, complicated con artist...she had a purpose and a reason for all she did, and I loved how Kat's opinion of her changed along with ours as we read. The ending was strong and character appropriate as well. This was a great thriller full of twists and turns. Definitely recommend.

This amazing follow up to the Last Flight was absolutely worth the wait! The duel between the two female protagonists is fascinating and thrilling, and the ending was something I did not see coming!

The Lies I tell is a smart, tightly woven story of a con woman, Meg, and the reporter who plans to expose her, Kat. However, the novel is much deeper than that. When Kat sets out to expose Meg for her 10 year spree of cons, she does not expect to befriend the con. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to be an early reader in exchange for my review.

I loved Julie Clark’s The Last Flight and was excited to dig into this one. The Lies I Tell was an interesting character-driven thriller about a con artist who targets bad men. It’s a fun concept and the characters were interesting. Their voices were a little similar for me, though, as they both felt like women in their early thirties (I’m not sure exactly how old they were). Overall, this was a fun read and I’d recommend to fans of The Last Flight!

Meg was just a young girl when her mother was betrayed by a wealthy boyfriend who lied his way onto the deed of their family home and then cruelly evicted them. This early trauma and distrust of powerful men set Meg on a course to seek revenge by conning men who were similarly positioned to abuse women. Her revenge plots eventually catch the eye of Kat, an ambitious journalist, who starts to see a larger pattern. Over the course of ten years, Kat pursues Meg’s story, with twists along the way that bring the women closer together as they learn from each other. This story is a satisfying game of cat-and-mouse, part feminist “Robin Hood, and as a reader it is fun to see Meg stay one step ahead of her “mark” - and one step ahead of Kat. Meg’s mission to seek a form of justice against men who have committed acts of violence (sexual, financial, and otherwise) against women makes her a sympathetic character despite the illegality of her work. As the pieces of the story come together, it is less of a “who done it” than a “why done it” tale, and in the post- #MeToo era, the “why” seems perfectly justifiable. The story is written in an engaging structure with chapters alternating perspectives. Overall, a solid work of suspense.

Totally did not go where I thought it would. I wanted to really dislike Meg, but I think she may be my new hero. Kat is onto Meg, a grifter who Kat feels inadvertently ruined her life years ago. But will Kat expose Meg? Or will she become her?

4.5 stars! "By the time you're saying nice to meet you, I've already known you for months. Does this worry you? It should." The Lies I Tell, Julie Clark, does indeed pose such ideas about how vulnerable we might be to con artists and what happens to those targeted, particularly those out for revenge.

Thank you to Sourcebooks and NetGalley for the chance to read and review The Lies I Tell from Julie Clark. I was a fan of The Last Flight and after reading this book I am now an overall fan of this author! The Lies I Tell truly lived up to expectations for a fun, fast paced and well executed thriller, this is a thriller that is all about the unfolding of the plot and the joy is in seeing how Ms Clark not just ends the book but how she lets the cat and mouse game unfold. A good thriller for me is all about the ride and pacing, be it fast paced suspense or a slow burn simmer, and this book delivers an engaging plot start to finish.

three things I liked
1. The back and forth narratives worked very well as Kat and Meg, the two main protagonists, had clear and distinct voices and I felt the interweaving of their stories was well done. A wonderful cat and mouse plot that delivered.
2. I liked that the story focused on two women, not a con man but a con woman, and it felt less like another story of taking advantage of women (not that people should be taken advantage of but the vibe of female empowerment, even through illicit behaviors..., worked for me).
3. As noted I thought the pacing was great, a well done cat and mouse plot can unfold via a slow burn character driven plot (see Janelle Brown's Pretty Things as an example) or a fast but suspenseful blend of character and plot driven devices that holds together this book. The plot didn't drag for me.

I can tell this will be a great summer/beach read and I recommend it without reservation for beach read thriller lovers. If you enjoy con person/revenge themes, cat and mouse style games, then this one is for you. I recommend it to readers who enjoyed Janelle Brown's Pretty Things, Alafair Burke's The Better Sister, and to fans of Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen's co--written thrillers.

The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am obsessed with The Last Flight and it is one of my favorite thrillers and this was also highly addictive, full of twists, and the ending payoff was brilliant. Kat and Meg have a complicated history and relationship and seeing it unfold in the present day was such a fun ride. Cannot wait for this one to release and to share this with others!

Well thought out plot about two ladies out for revenge. One is looking to punish the person who defrauded her mother and made them lose everything and have to live in their car. The other, once an aspiring journalist, is seeking revenge for a major life-changing event caused by the other lady. The story is told from both perspectives with the reader gaining insight into what drives both women. Who will get their revenge and what will they lose in the process? A good page-turner.

This was okay in my opinion. While this is a fun story, I think it would be suited best for new-to-thriller readers and not those like me who feel they need more gimmicks to make it fun. Which is on me, not on Clark!
