Meg Williams is a con artist who can be whoever you need her to be, but once she’s done, you’ll likely have nothing left. Kat Roberts is a journalist who has been looking for Meg for ten years. Now that they’ve met, Kat will do anything to get her revenge.
I thought this story was so intriguing. Told in dual perspectives and many different timelines, I loved how Kat and Meg’s stories intertwined. The way Meg so meticulously figured out who she needed to be to get her next mark was written so well. The book started off a bit slow for me, but picked up the pace not too far in. I actually liked the friendship between the two ladies even though it was so toxic.
There were a lot of red herrings thrown in that had me guessing the entire time. I didn’t want to put this book down because I needed to know how it would end, and believe me, that ending blew my mind!
Thank you Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for my honest review.
Julie Clark has done it again! After loving THE LAST FLIGHT, I immediately knew I'd have to read THE LIES I TELL. This was a story that kept me on my toes until the very end. The characters were very well-developed, the story was well-paced, and the plot was very intriguing. I would definitely recommend this to fellow mystery-lovers!
I really loved Clark's first book, but this one just fell short to me. It felt less of a mystery/thriller and more of just a story with a little intrigue added in.
A dual-perspective thriller that kept me guessing, Julie Clark does a great job of weaving impactful female narratives through time jumps and creating characters you want to root for despite their challenging circumstances. Thank you #NetGalley for my copy! (NOTE FOR PUBLISHER: I also very much need to know why Julie chose the last name of "Dempsey" and the location of "Reading, Pennsylvania" for this book -- both personally speak to me and it's too ironic!)
Wow! Julie Clark has quickly become an auto buy author for me! I couldn’t put this one down — talk about a page-turner! The storyline was original and so fascinating. Two women want revenge for wrongdoings and you’ll be sucked into their games. I can’t recommend getting your hands on this twisted thriller enough! I can’t wait to see what Julie Clark comes up with next. 🙌🏼
Thank you to Sourcebooks Landmark and NetGalley for my gifted e-copy!
THE LIES I TELL was a juicy, domestic drama that kept me turning the pages late into the night.
I really enjoyed slowly peeling back the layers of Meg's history and learning how she became a revenge seeking con-artist. There were a few twists and turns that i figured out in advance, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.
Plus, I love a good ambiguous ending and....spoiler: this one has a good one.
Thank you to Netgalley for my #arc
LOVED and want to read Julie Clark's back list now. I loved the cat and mouse between the two main characters, the premise, and the ending. Truly a great twisty and engaging read
Spectacular!! Captivating story line told by two women who seem to know each other, yet not know each other well. Through twists and turns you follow and try to keep up with the lies and truths as they are revealed and wondering who is telling the most truths Kat or Meg?! Another wonderful read from Julie Clark!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you NetGalley, Julie Clark and Sourcebooks for hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

Omg Meg is the best con artist! I couldn't even keep up with all the schemes she had going and the time and effort it took to establish a lot of them. The last quarter of the book will really throw you for a loop and might change some opinions you initially had of Meg.
A female con woman and a journalist perusing a story and they become friends, what a great premise for this story. I really liked Meg as the main character, she did her research and made those men pay for what they did. I didn’t really feel Kat was going about her revenge in a believable way but in the end she realized what she had to do. Would love to read a follow up book about Kat. 3.5 stars.
Initially, this book was a little hard for me to get into. Once, into it though, I couldn’t put it down. First, multiple POV are my favorite. I loved the character building and descriptions. I felt for both women as they shared their story. This may be the first book I’ve read with a female con artist and the entire time I kept wondering what’s the truth for her. The end was not what I was expecting and I thoroughly enjoyed that twist. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more by Julie Clark!
Julie Clark writes phenomenal thrillers. I give this 5 stars and put it on my favorites list. A con artist and revenge with twists and turns all the way through! I highly recommend.
Kate Roberts is determined to get her story and finally get to the truth around the scams Megan Williams is involved in. Megan unearthed a big con about 10 years ago that she was working on when Megan destroyed her life. Kate's been patiently waiting for Megan to reappear so she can go after and expose her for the con artist that she is. I am keeping the summary short because I don't want to spoil the story for anyone.
I really enjoyed this thriller, it kept me reading and I had a really hard time putting this one down until it was finished. I devoured every page. It kept me reading, until the very end. I had a sleepless night because I need to finish this one. I am now ready to grab another book by Julie Clark. I highly recommend this one. It's a great distraction, read it!
I'll be adding The Lies I Tell to my list of books I've loved by Julie Clark!! This faced-paced thriller kept me on my toes and turning the pages! I really enjoyed the main characters but wouldn't have minded if they were less of an open book. Dual point of view stories tend to be my favorites, I love how they play out and I am able to get to know each character. Thank you Net Galley for the chance to read an advanced copy!!
Meg Williams is a con artist - one who will be whoever she needs to be to steal as much as possible from her unsuspecting targets. Kat Roberts is a journalist who has been following Meg for the past 10 years and cannot wait to expose her. When the two cross paths and their lives become entangled, Kat can't decide whether she would rather stick to her plan and expose Meg, or simply be her friend.
I loved this book so much! I found the writing style to be so addictive and I seriously couldn't put this one down. I know being a con artist is frowned upon but I loved how Meg targeted corrupt men and found ways to help women along the way, even ones she never met! Kat was a bit annoying and naïve at times but I love how she turned things around in the end - I seriously LOVED the ending so much! I read the last page like three times and laughed so hard. Where my girls at?! Read this book!
Thank you to the publisher for my review copy, all opinions are my own.
If you are woman...follow along. If you are a man...take notes. You know how you feel when you finish listening to man, I feel like a woman by Shania Twain? (If you don' t feel like a bad ass...we need to talk about that) but I digress. That is what happened to me when I finished this book. I am not going to get into it deep cause....spoilers. But man, I was proud to be a woman.
I freakin' loved The Lies I Tell. I legitimately had zero idea what in the world was going on and I wouldn't trade that for anything. The whole thing. The different pov's. The characters. The plot. All of it. Amazing. That's it. That's all I got for you. Pick it up if you want a different kind thriller. Although, I think I would place this title in more of a suspense genre. For reals. Amazing book.
I truly loved this book. Julie Clark takes the thriller genre and gives it a fresh perspective. What starts as a woman v. woman setting change slowly to reveal a wronged-women female empowerment story for the slightly unhinged.
This was a propulsive thriller that i had a hard time putting down. Meg, one of the narrators, is a grifter who is forced to fend for herself when her mother dies during her senior year of high school. Meg returns to LA after ten years have passed and her next target is the man responsible for the loss of her family home. Kat, the other narrator, is a reporter/writer chasing the story of who Meg really is. These two strike up a friendship based on lies because neither woman wants the other to know the truth of what they are actually up to. What I loved about this book was the female dynamic. Despite the lies, there is a tender relationship between the women in this book, a strong sense of looking out for each other, and the ending does not disappoint.
The assumptions you begin with are not the story you end with, as the stories of two women and their pasts are slowly revealed to uncover secrets, lies, and a revenge plan that is years in the making. I truly enjoyed this story, where you can't believe what you read, until the very last chapter.
Rating: 4
genre: suspense

review: The Lies I Tell is a fast-paced con-artist story that had me drawn in from the very beginning! I was intrigued by the premise and it didn’t disappoint. It was filled with twists and an unreliable narrator. In this cat and mouse story you truly never know who is lying for the sake of their end game. I loved how everything was slowly revealed between chapters and the multiple points of view. There were times that I strongly disliked both of the main characters, Meg and Kat, while other times I was cheering for them. The quick chapters kept me reading quickly & I love how it wrapped up! There are quite a few trigger warnings (assault, rape, gaslighting, etc) so read with caution.
