This one was just meh for me. And thats okay. Not all romantic suspense are for everyone. This one just didn’t land for me.
I am usually a huge fan of Nora Robert's romantic suspense books, but this one missed the mark for me. I never really connected with Booth's story. When the plot focused more on Miranda, I enjoyed it more. The romance between the two of them seemed flimsy. I do love the writing style though.
“Greed. Desire. Obsession. Revenge . . . It’s all in a night’s work.”
Harry Booth started stealing at age nine to keep a roof over his sick mother’s head. When his mother passes away, he leaves Chicago—but kept up his nightwork, developing into a master thief. He meets Miranda Emerson and they develop a quick and intense bond.
I love Nora Roberts! She can basically do no wrong as far as I’m concerned. This was a different type of story than what I usually read, but I loved it! As usual, Roberts paints vivid, relatable characters and a page turning tale. Thank you to Netgalley, Nora Roberts and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC!

Another engrossing story by a masterful storyteller. Harry became a master thief at the age of nine when he started stealing to help fund his life with his mom who was battling cancer.
.
As Harry got older his skills increased but he has made some dangerous enemies along the way. It seems only Miranda can pull him out of this life but she is also his biggest weakness. Told in only a way Roberts can this is a great read.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martins for the ARC of Nightwork by Nora Roberts! This is an honest opinion and review based on my feelings alone.
Nightwork is a different type of novel than we are used to see from Roberts. The beginning was quite slow with a lot of exposition and background that was hard to keep focused. The romance was cozy and simple, but we are here for the suspense! The morally grey main character Harry Booth was my favorite. I enjoyed his multiple personas and his devotion to his mother. This was not a page turner for me, but this was still enjoyable.
Nora is one of my one click authors, but sometimes even she gets it wrong. This one focuses too much on a character I couldn't find a connection with and moves too slowly in the beginning. I'd just get engaged in something and then the book would skip forward, which was a little frustrating. It does pick up about halfway through the book, but I think this is just one where I didn't click with the characters or plot.
As a die-hard fan, I’m always on the lookout for new book releases of Nora Roberts and though lately there have been more misses than hits, Nightwork did not disappoint. From the get-go, I loved Harry Booth. He snuck in my heart and stayed there.
I empathized so much with him, over the huge responsibility he shouldered, what he took upon himself to try to pay the bills and take care of his mother. How can you fault him his choices?
I loved how the author portrayed him from a child to a teen to a young man, and as an adult. Harry Booth already had the maturity of an adult at a very young age but you could see the difference in age and experience as we followed his journey into adulthood.
The period of his life when he first met Miranda had me chuckling over how she baffled him. He needed that upheaval in his life. I can go on and on over how much I loved this book and it will still not be enough.
This story right here, is why I love Nora Roberts’ books so much. Her ability to craft a poignant story, with compelling characters, vivid descriptions, dashes of dark humor here and there, a deep abiding love, passion, intrigue, and an apt ending leaves me in awe.

To be able to pay bills for his ailing mother, a young boy learns to steal and sell the items bringing in enough money to support his mom. He later makes a career out of it and goes against one of the biggest kingpins of the time.
The beginning of this story grabbed me right away. The love this boy had for his mother was admirable. At a young age he showed the maturity of an adult and his relationship with her and his aunt was heartwarming.
My interest went in and out with this one. It was high at the beginning then wavered throughout. There wasn’t a lot of fluidity to his missions; some went into detail for pages and chapters, some were barely skimmed over. I would have preferred more continuity in that aspect.
I believe I lost interest when the romance became intertwined with the missions. For one thing, I was not “sold” on the romance to begin with. They fell in love within a matter of days? It didn’t jive for me. Later, the romance was well done but how they started never clicked for me. The buildup to the end dwindled the more she was involved. I loved the missions and the details but having her involved and being inexperienced and worried lessened the intrigue. I didn’t get the specifics of the mission as before. I instead heard her side of it and missed hearing about his drive and mental clarity that he went through to succeed.
With that being said, the writing was well done and the characters are easy to love. Nora Roberts may not have a ton of unique stories anymore but her writing is enough to keep me turning the pages.

Where to even begin with this one! This is my first Nora Roberts novel and I am definitely a fan. I love how we follow Harry Booth from his younger days and watch him grow into a young man with “squishy” values. Even with his own set of morals and rules, Roberts does such a great job making the reader care about him and shows that there is more to the picture and what he went through in his life that started him on his line of work. I think Roberts does a great job with the transitions in the book that you don’t even realize that the storyline has changed because you are just so sucked in. This is such a captivating romantic suspense novel and she keeps you wanting more and more.

Once again, Nora Roberts hooks me into her story and doesn’t let go until the very last word. Nightwork is a slow burn with a main character that sizzles. The imagery throughout was fascinating and I loved how Roberts made Booth, who could have easily been a villain, into someone who was intriguing, lovable and one of a kind. I would just warn you away from reading the description of the book as it gave away a big part of the plot. I loved that this book takes place over many years, you really feel like you get to know the people. If you like adventure and solid writing, Nightwork is the book for you.
Nightwork by Nora Roberts is another one of her wonderful standalone novels. We meet our hero, Harry Booth, who at the age of 9, began a career of being a thief. Harry’s mother had cancer, and together with his aunt Mags, they struggled to help his mom, and be able to pay the bills, from doctors, hospital, treatment, as well as mortgage payments. Harry started with pickpocketing to pay the bills, but that was only the beginning; as he migrated into slipping into wealthy people’s homes to steal valuable jewelry or paintings.
After a number of years, his mother succumbed to cancer, and Harry left his home town of Chicago, and continued his ‘nightwork’, travelling to different countries, becoming the best thief in the world. Harry always followed the rules, never hurt anyone, be non- threatening, and steal from the very rich. Over the years, it was great to watch Harry visit so many places during this journey; Europe, Outer Banks, Savannah, and New Orleans; always changing his identity. In New Orleans, Harry met some wonderful people, and became close to Sebastian, and seeing his aunt Mags, who also travelled a lot. With Sebastian’s help, Harry takes a lucrative commission from a man (Carter LaPorte), which is successful, but LaPorte will become obsessed with owning Harry for himself. Harry changes his name again and moves on to go to school, and meets Miranda Emerson, with both being very attracted to each other, but when LaPorte finds him, he knows he must run away again, leaving Miranda heartbroken.
What follows years later, Harry has managed to hide from LaPorte, as well become a chameleon working mostly in Europe, until he spots LaPorte’s enforcer. This forces Harry to return to America, and take a job as a teacher, not doing any kind of nightwork. Harry loves his job, working with the kids, and is happy. Then one day, using another name, he comes face to face with Miranda, who has become a successful writer. I really loved Miranda and Harry (now called Booth) together, as well as his Aunt Mags, Sebastian and many of the secondary characters. I was happy that slowly Miranda will begin to learn the truth about Harry’s life, and if they want a normal life, without danger, they must work together with him to find a way to defeat LaPorte. The last third of the book was intense and exciting climax
Nightwork was a wonderful amazing uplifting story that held my attention from beginning to end; as Harry’s life totally captivated me. Nightwork had a bit of everything, romance, suspense, mystery, family, friendship, as well as the many exciting adventures along the way. Though he was a thief that started when he was a child helping his mother, Harry was always a good guy. Nightwork was so very well written by Nora Roberts. I wholly suggest you read this fantastic book.
Nightwork is a captivating story with a different style than what we are used to from the author, but addictive! A well-written story that is full of suspense that slowly begins to build when the story changes subtly. The characters are relatable with intriguing backstories, and the story is in the intricate details. You are captured by a story that begs you to finish as quickly as you can while not missing a single sentence. While it seems to start slowly, the build-up and the ending make it worth the wait! Awesome twist.

Nora Roberts can do no wrong. I always love her books, especially her romantic suspense reads. Nightwork is another excellent thriller, but this time Nora has written a more character-driven story. Nightwork is about Harry Booth, a thief with a code of honor. The story follows Harry from childhood through his adulthood. He falls in love, gets his heart broken, falls in with the wrong people, and slides in and out of lives and countries. And then he buys a house with swoonworthy architecture.
I loved Harry and he was a great main character. I was very invested in his love story with Miranda and feel the story really hits it’s stride when she is introduced. Their second chance, small town romance is so sweet and angsty and fun. Carter LaPorte is an excellent villain and I loved all of the heists and adventures that this storyline allowed. Another entertaining, thrilling, and romantic story from a legend.

Well ... that was another amazing Nora Roberts book!
No one can write like Nora Roberts. This book will make you sigh, smile and also grip the arms of your chair a little tighter. It was simply a wonderful book. I hope you’ll give it a try.
I enjoyed all of this book, parts were engaging, suspenseful, wonderful.
Nora Roberts shines with her characterizations, she really brings the whole story to life and gives the leads and side characters distinctive personalities.
