I love Katherine Center's books and enjoyed this one as well. The plot was good and I really loved the characters. Thank you for letting me read this book.
This book is just what I needed right now. A fun, cute, quirky rom-com with a dash of the fake dating trope!
I thought this book was so much fun to read. It's the perfect mix of a cute, heartfelt read with some humor and real-life issues you see in the characters.
Hannah was such a fun character. I loved reading her POV and sarcasm throughout the book. I lived for her interactions with Jake. The side characters (like Jake's mom and dad) made me smile throughout. I wish I could have just hung out with them.
Was it a bit corny at times? Sure. Could some of the issues just been solved through communication? Possibly but it's a rom-com so what can we say. Overall, it's such an enjoyable read. I definitely recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley & St Martins Press for the e-ARC.
I've read & loved everything by Katherine Center, which pains me to say I didn't love The Bodyguard. I almost gave up around 40% but kept going because, well, Katherine Center, even though I kept thinking, did she even write this? The style seemed so different from her previous books. I have a feeling I'm in the minority with my rating of 2.5 starts (rounded up to 3). It just didn't work for me. I thought it was a great premise except I didn't like the main character of Hannah. As soon as she got the bodyguard assignment, everything she did was so unprofessional (and it seemed she was the best agent on the team?) that it distracted me from the story. Once she & Jack got to the ranch, however, their funny dialogue kept me reading to the end.
I will definitely be recommending this book as a must-read for summer! I am always excited to read anything by Katherine Center. I think this will be a favorite beach read for summer 2022. I loved the interaction between all of the characters. It isn't hard to visualize all of the characters and I just hope if this ever makes it to the big screen, they will be as perfect as they are in my head. Jack's family were and Hannah's co-workers made a great supporting cast. Katherine Center is on her game again with this one!
This is only my second Katherine Center book but now I fully understand why she is a favorite among many. This book was the definition of "laugh out loud" funny. It's one of those reads that wins you over from the first chapter. The Bodyguard was not only funny but sweet, serious, and charming.
I loved the premise of this book. The woman being the bodyguard or "executive protection agent" is such a unique idea and concept for a romance novel. Hannah was a hilarious MC and while she was often described as "ordinary and plain" in this book, I thought her growth throughout the novel was perfect.
Jack was the goofy yet handsome actor of every reader's dreams! The banter between him and Hannah was adorable. The small ways he showed he cared about her were so cute and he was just a very loveable character!
I appreciated the depth and background given to both the MCs. My only complaint is that I found some of their individual struggles felt like a bigger plot point in this book than the development of their relationship. When they're at the Ranch together, a lot is glossed over and simply told to us as opposed to shown and I really would've like a few more moments of them actually being together. This gave it almost an insta-love feel since the readers aren't fully able to see their connection grow. I also wanted a tab bit less of Robby... because of course we all want less of him.
The shock/surprise/twist towards the end was so fitting. It felt kind of predictable but there was a shock factor to it for sure. I definitely thought it fit into the novel and the premise of the book!
Overall, this is such a delight to read! There were so many funny moments but it also has a lot of heart and depth. I think many romance readers will be a fan of The Bodyguard.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hannah’s mother died, and to add to that heartbreak, her boyfriend, Robby, dumped her. Hannah is feeling vulnerable and unloved. Hannah works for Executive Protection, a security group who protects important people. Hannah is assigned to protect Jack Stapleton, an actor and labeled “The Sexist Man Alive.” She does not want this job but is told she has no choice. Jack needs protection while with his mother who is undergoing cancer treatment. His parents live on a ranch outside of Houston and her dying wish is for the family to spend the next month and Thanksgiving together. She agrees.
This book is wonderful! Hannah grows into a stronger person as she shares insights about herself. Jack, the star, is nothing like Jack the boyfriend, son, and brother. Jack’s parents show the reader what love looks like. There are many surprises, and many twists to the story that will warm your heart. Lots of truths revealed.
An absolute DELIGHT. I did not want this book to end & could not put it down. I loved it so much. Katherine Center has such a gift for writing a mix of light and deep in the same book. I loved the characters in this book but also the story. It was the perfect Rom-Com and read completely like a movie. If you love movies like "Miss Congeniality" & "The Proposal" - do not wait to grab this book. It will make you laugh out loud, it will make you wish you could read it again for the first time. Truly one of my favorite books, the perfect vacation read - or when you just need something GOOD.

A fun read even if the plot is a little too unbelievable. I call, this type of story popcorn for the soul. I read it compulsively and quickly and enjoyed every moment. It’s probably the only one of the author’s books I haven’t given 5 stars. But it’s pretty close: maybe 4.6. Even though Hannah is the star of the book, superstar Jack definitely outshines her. I think that’s why I knocked it down by a star. I am used to the main character in Center’s books being the female protagonist. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC. All opinions are honest.
I fell in love with everything about this book! I started off unsure, as it started slow and didn’t really capture my attention. But once I kept going, I was hooked!
I haven’t loved two characters like Hannah and Jack in a VERY long time both individually and together. While I definitely have a (huge) crush on Jack, Hannah’s character is portrayed so well and there is so much depth to her. The self- reflection and lessons she learns about herself are just subtle enough to not take over every chapter.
Having read other Katherine Center books, I know they are usually 5-star for me, but this was so different then any of her other books. Her books are normally pretty emotional and heart-wrenching and focus on that, but this was a good enticing romance with the classic tug-at-your heartstrings content being much more subtle and not being the focus of every chapter. It was an easy, addicting read.
The basis of this book (human security) is also something new to me so that kind of put me off at first, it’s a different aspect to have in a romance story, but it all comes together, especially with the wild ending of this book. 5 stars, would recommend!! Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me an early copy of this book!
Katherine Center has once again given us a spunky, snappy and adorable heroine. Ms. Center creates the best friend you wished you had and a family you want to spend holidays with. Although the story is light and predictable, it is fun and has a warm and satisfying finish.
The Bodyguard was such an enjoyable read! Sweet and funny, I found this to be a RomCom gem!
When Hollywood heartthrob Jack Stapleton returns to Houston from his self-imposed isolation to care for his sick mom, his team hires bodyguard Hannah Brooks to keep his stalker threat away. When Jack's mom begs him to come live on the family ranch for the next few weeks, Jack asks Hannah to pose as his girlfriend so as not to cause his mother any undue stress.
Fake relationship AND shared bed? Hello! Sign me up!
This book gave me Ms. Congeniality vibes with the whole "dangerous woman" bit. and the gender swapped roles were really well used. I loved Jack's family dynamic and how the trauma of their past plays out.
I've only read one other book by Katherine Center, Things You Save in a Fire, which fell a bit flat for me. The Bodyguard was a true redemption in my eyes!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Katherine Center for the galley in exchange for a review.
I LOVE Katherine Carter's writing, and The Bodyguard was no different.
What a unique and cool plot! I love that our FMC, Hannah, is the one doing the protecting as an Executive Protection Agent...and let's just say she's a total BA!
Hannah has been recently dumped, and her mother just passed away. When tasked to protect movie star and heartthrob Jack Stapleton, she's hesitant at first...especially when she has to act as Jack's fake girlfriend and not just fade away into the background.
Fade away she does not. She's thrust into Jack's family life headfirst, and what happens is such a beautiful story. She and Jack grow closer, and the two help each other through hurt they are experiencing. Their banter was perfect, their chemistry was undeniable and Jack was such a sweetheart, always looking out for her.
My heart swooned at their story. What I loved more than the slow burn romance, though, was the character development from not only Hannah, but Jack (and his family) as well. The book really shows how one can grow from bad experiences, and I love that.
At times the romance in the book takes a backseat to other scenes happening in the story, but I still felt that it was authentic and wonderful.
Overall, I adored this book! Thank you so much for the ARC!
I love Katherine Center’s sense of humor in her writing style. This story was so laugh out loud fun! It is a great rom com.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Irresistible, witty, light-hearted and absolutely filled with wonderful charm. The Bodyguard captures you into a fun romance that puts a delightful spin on a bodyguard romance.
Hannah is a refreshing and delightful character. Jack is such a hot character who has depth and Hollywood heartthrob, you will find yourself falling head over heels for him.
I loved the sarcasm and witty banter between Jack and Hannah. While there were moments that were cheesy, I adored this book.
A strong female lead who's the bodyguard, is a twist I absolutely adored. I could not put down this book. Katherine Center just gained another reader and I will be recommending this book to everyone.
Run to your TBR list and write this title down. You will not want to miss it. Release Date: July 19.

Bodyguard but with a twist
Oh gosh, this book 💗such a fun and unique plot, minus the illness and stalker bits, but I loved this book. The dialogue between characters, the characters themselves, Hannah’s internal voice… it was all perfect. And the “moral of the story” was just what I needed to hear. Telling everyone about this one.
I love bodyguard books and love Katherine Center's writing, so this book was made for me.
Hannah's newest assignment is to guard Hollywood's hottest hunk, Jack, while he visits his family, only they can't know she's a bodyguard.
Fake dating, forced proximity, only one bed, this book as all the good tropes.
I loved the plot, Hannah's job, and all of her coworkers. They were amazing, as was Jack's family -- I'm looking forward to all of their books. I was really excited for Hannah, since she's a professional protection agent, so I was surprised at how insecure she was and how much she argued with everyone. Her trauma was very well spelled out, and I would have liked more of her being competent and bad ass at the beginning of the book. We see a lot of whiny Hannah, which made it difficult to get attached to her. Also, if someone offers to give you a free makeover, take it!
However, Jack made up for everything since he was such a sweetheart.
A fun romance!
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley and for providing a digital reviewer copy.
Let me start this out by saying I AM OBSESSED. Katherine Center does it again!! I loved absolutely every second of this book, this was one of those books that you don’t know you need then hits you right in the feels. A movie star, a bodyguard, a stalker, fake dating, AND is set in Texas - hooked right from the beginning. This was a one-day read for me and I could not recommend any more. Katherine Center does an incredible job at creating a story that has the perfect amount of humor but also pulls you in deep with the emotional aspect. The characters were dynamic with so much growth and the plot was entertaining with twist and turns. I will definitely be picking this book up again soon!! (I would also pay BIG MONEY to see this adapted into a movie!)
Special Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
If you've read/enjoyed any previous Katherine Center books you are in for a treat, this one is just as enjoyable. It reads like a movie, I could picture every scene clearly in my imagination. This one was maybe a little less believable then her pervious books (female bodyguard and male heartthrob/actor forced to present to date), but I was still just as sucked in as ever. The female lead is likable and quirky, the story is all told from her persecutive. The only thing I wanted was more. I wanted to book to go on for longer. I wanted at least one more heartfelt confession, one more passionate kiss, one more interaction with the family, but I suppose the best of books leave you wanting more as opposed to the alternative.
#netgalley #katherinecenter #thebodyguard #advancedreaderscopy #arc Hannah is an actual bodyguard, used to working around the world to protect important and sometimes famous people. Her new assignment requires her to pretend to be the girlfriend of a famous movie star, and things move on from there. Book Review
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
This book created flashbacks to Whitney Houstons bodyguard with a role reversal twist
I loved the portrayal of Hannah as a capable, fierce, strong, and yes vulnerable ( we can be both) woman. She is totally confident in her ability to save the word, her clients…. But herself??? Hmmm
Jack comes across as a do good nice guy going through an internal emotional struggle- is it because of his mothers health, an issue in Hollywood or something from his past. Whatever it is- it gives Jack those dark brooding vibes that tease.
I was totally engaged and couldnt wait to see Hannah save the day and his (and her) heart. A predictable outcome but one I was happy to see revealed.
Katherine Center has easily
Become an auto buy author for me and while this read isnt my favourite from her catalogue of Books it is a solid, enjoyable read.
