A heartwarming, feel-good fake dating romance between a bodyguard and the celebrity actor she's hired to protect. Set in small town Texas, Hannah has recently lost her mother and is assigned to protect reclusive actor Jack Stapleton while he's in town visiting his parents.

Having to pose as Jack's girlfriend, Hannah gradually falls in love with both Jack and his charming family, realizing that there actually are families that care for one another deeply. It takes a death threat against Jack's new girlfriend to cause Hannah to leave unexpectedly, leaving Jack vulnerable to the real threat.

This was just a heart-warming romance that sees both main characters work through their issues. Jack is grieving the death of his younger brother and Hannah is getting over the death of her mother and a recent breakup that has made her question her own self-worth.

What I really loved most about this book was the message that it is more important to love yourself than almost anything else. You can't love someone else until you can appreciate your own self-worth and that is the journey Hannah goes on with this book.

Katherine Center fans are not going to be disappointed. This was a beautiful, feel-good love story that I was sad to see end. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy in exchange for an honest review.

I read and enjoyed Things You Save in a Fire by this author, so i was looking forward to this book. It didn’t disappoint; it’s a great read, and I i give it 5 stars.

The main character, Hannah, is a Personal Protection Agent (bodyguard) who’s struggling with the loss of her mother, boyfriend, and best friend all at once. She’s outraged to discover her next assignment is to guard an outrageously attractive A-list actor named Jack who insists she pose as his girlfriend. Poor Hannah’s low self-esteem is pushed even lower when her ex-boyfriend, who’s also a work colleagues , says no one will believe it. But Hannah forges ahead, being professional and breaking all her own rules for not getting personally involved, as she gets to know Jack and his family.

I really liked Hannah and Jack who have great chemistry—much of their dialogue is laugh-out-loud funny. They also have many poignant moments when they reveal their vulnerabilities to each other. There were many well-rounded secondary characters who really contributed to the book: Jack’s family was almost too good to be true while Hannah’s work colleagues were funny and snarky in a totally believable way.

The author clearly researched acting and personal protection, and I enjoyed learning about both. I think she included just the right amount of information to add depth to the story without weighing it down. The ending was creative and perfect. I read the book in one sitting; it was an interesting, enjoyable, and well-written book.

At five foot-five inches Hannah Brooks looks like she couldn’t hurt a fly. If you assumed that you would be dead wrong. She is highly trained bodyguard and has picked up an assignment with a very famous and good looking actor named, Jack Stapleton. When Jack has to travel to see his sick mom, he asks Hannah to pretend she is his girlfriend so he can avoid the question of why he needs a bodyguard. What’s the harm in a small white lie…until it becomes more reality than lie??!!

Let me start by saying I don’t normally read rom-coms at all. But I am really glad I read THE BODYGUARD by Katherine Center. It was an absolutely different type of book for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You can expect a very quick and easy read with plenty of funny situations. Everything is written in the most tasteful manner which I loved. After reading this, I look forward to Katherine Center’s next book!

Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Loved it!!! Such a delightful rom-com that is sure to be a 2022 summer hit! Hannah is a top-notch executive protection agent or bodyguard assigned to protect Jack Stapleton, a well-known Hollywood actor. Jack needs to return home to Texas to be with his mom, having surgery for cancer. But Jack has a stalker and has received several threats to his life, so his studio has contracted the services of Hannah to be his bodyguard. To do so, Hannah poses as Jack’s girlfriend, albeit reluctantly. Jack is a bit nervous as well due to tension in his once tight knit family. He has not been home since his younger brother’s death in an accident. With all the banter, the laughs, the comfort of sharing life’s experiences, it was predictable that Jack and Hannah become attracted to each other, but that was okay with me as I appreciated watching them fall in love. However, Hannah has to decide what is real and what is acting. It doesn’t help that Hannah’s ex-boyfriend, also working at the same agency, continues to demoralize Hannah as unworthy and undeserving of anyone’s affections.

I really looked forward to reading this story, having read her previous books “What You Save in a Fire” and “How to Walk Away”, and it did not disappoint. In true Katherine Center style, she has introduced well developed characters and a narrative that just speaks to the reader. It makes you feel as if you are sitting in the same room and having the story relayed to you over a comfortable cup of coffee. Center’s style of developing characters that you care about is so rich. The story makes you laugh and sigh, giving over a whole range of emotion. I love the twist at the end even though I knew that the story can’t have wrapped up so soon so that there had to be something more. This is a book you will want to read and you will enjoy.

Many thanks to #netgalley #katherinecenter #thebodyguard #st.martinspress for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I think this was a little too ‘romcom’ for me, personally.

I found most of the attempts at being charming and funny actually feeling juvenile and awkward. It was just a little too over the top for what I was wanting and expecting.

I will say that the gender roles in this are refreshing. It was so interesting to have the female MC be the bodyguard and protect the guy. I think the dynamic itself actually worked out well! It's just a shame that I didn't think any of the characters acted like fully grown adults.

I also don't think it helps that this is a slow burn romance, which would have worked really well if this had a more serious and realistic tone. But because it's supposed to be upbeat and light, it definitely needed some of that banter and tension to balance it out. So not having any sort of romance show up until the 85% mark is just too late to make a difference.

So this didn't quite work out for me. But based on other reviews, I'm definitely in the minority. So if you enjoy the fake dating trope, then this is one to add to your TBR.

4.5⭐️ This was so fun! And I practically read it in one sitting. I very much enjoy this author’s books and her main characters. .So put this on your July TBR and until then read How to Walk Away and Things You Save in a Fire, which were both 5⭐️ reads for me.

You CAN judge Katherine Center’s books by their covers. They’re bright and bold and so very full of life!

Center has such a unique voice. - I adore the way her characters interact. But, most of all, I love the messages she infused into her stories. In “Things You Save in a Fire”, the message was forgiveness.. In this one, it’s about learning to love yourself. Things that are often easier said than done.

I honestly didn’t want this one to end. But, isn’t there a saying “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy you got to read it!” Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in return for an honest review.

The Bodyguard is just what I hope for in a Katherine Center book- lovable characters, a little bit of romance, and some humor that can make me laugh out loud.

Hannah Brooks may not be what you think of when you hear the word "bodyguard", but that doesn't mean that she can't flip you onto your back. Except for right now she's the one feeling a bit out of breath after the passing of her mother and the subsequent dumping from her coworker boyfriend. That's a rough 24 hours! Despite everyone telling her that she should take a vacation, all she cares about is work that is what she is begging to do. Luckily, when she needs it most she lands the job of lifetime. Her company is in charge or providing personal security for a heart throb actor that is coming home after being off the public radar for the past two years. Enter Jack Stapleton who is EVERYTHING you want your rom com heart throb to be. What happens next...... read to find out!

I think in choosing a book it is important to pick the right genre for your mood, and be careful to think about a book for what it is. This one is an easy and entertaining read that fulfills on the rom com checklist and is a must read for any Katherine Center fan. For that I give it 4.5 stars and would gladly watch a film version on Netflix should someone be considering......

This book was great! Filled with humor from the very beginning, the plot kept you on your toes with unexpected twists and turns along the way. The relationship between Hannah and Jack felt authentic and the characters of Jack's family added to the story as well. You couldn't help but love his mom and dad! I would love to see a sequel where Jack's brother finds love as well.

This book was a damn delight. I loved every single page of it I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down.
What I loved:
Hannah Brooks is a Executive Protection Agent. And she is a badass. She is hired to protect Jack, a famous actor, from a crazy stalker. Jack has recently moved back to his hometown to care for his sick mother. The only way to not add stress to an already stressful situation is to lie to his family. Hannah will pretend to be Jack's girlfriend.
They move to family ranch for a few weeks while Jack's mom recovers and Hannah can keep a close eye on Jack's safety. The problem is, how good of an actor is Jack really?
Katherine Center has a way of writing such emotionally packed romance books. I actually cried in this one with Hannah and her found. But as much as this story is emotional, it is equal parts funny and playful.
Just when I think I can't love one of her books anymore...along comes a new one.
Highly recommend!

thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the opportunity to read this book. I loved it!

I love a good rom-com, and The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is just perfection. Superstar Jack Stapleton is coming home to Texas to oversee his mother’s cancer care and needs protection from over-eager fans. Enter Hannah Brooks at 5’5” with a no-nonsense attitude, a driving work ethic, and a superstar bodyguard. Hannah’s mother has just passed away, and her boyfriend has dumped her, so she is reeling from her life changes but takes this job to get her mind off her empty life. Jack is a guy with a secret and a messy family dynamic. These two leads form an unlikely bond that turns into something tangible, but can it stand up to the test of time. At the end, who will save the other? Who is the protector? Ms. Center tells a compelling story with wit and class. I loved it, and I don’t think you will be able to resist buying this book when released on July 19th. Thank you to @StMartinsPress and @KatherineCenter for the pre-release ARC of this book. #bodyguard #protection #love #friendship #texas #moviestar #hea #romance #romcom #pubJuly19 @katherinecenter @stmartinspress @netgalley #netgalley #stmartinspress

Katherine Center is a romcom queen!

I loved this book so much from beginning to end. It had a great romance story of course, but there was so much more to it than that. I loved the spunky humour and the unique storyline of a female bodyguard having to watch over a hunky movie star. I loved Hannah and Jack so much together. I loved Hannah as a main character. (I mean, a female bodyguard? Total badass.)

I’m not exaggerating. I really did love it all.

Oh, and the ending! Definitely was not expecting that ending. Romcoms often seem to have a typical formula that the author follows (nothing wrong with that at all, the authors always do a brilliant job of it) but this book was different and I loved that element of surprise! That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

This is my second Katherine Center book and they have both been 5 stars for me. So now I need to formulate a plan where I can read all of her books because my obsession is growing.

Thank you to Katherine Center, NetGalley, and St. Martin’s Press for the eARC. This one comes out in July and is the perfect book to add to your summer TBR!

I have attached a link to my review on Bookstagram (@janinesbookcorner) and have already posted on Goodreads as well.

She is a bodyguard, he is a famous actor. Taking some time up of the spotlight to help his mom, she is assigned to protect him, but the most convincing way to have her by his side is to pretend to be his girlfriend. Old families wounds need to be solved, a stalker situation, ex boyfriend drama … there is a lot going on… and not an overt convincing meet cute

LOVE!!
Katherine had written another great story! The thing that stood out to me the most was the profession of being a Protection Agent; is all glammed up on the media as a big guy with muscles - and I love how Katherine chose the main character to be a woman and show that women take on this profession as well
I also loved the character Jack, as big as a star as he was, he had a real soft side.
The plot was super cute as well.

Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for this early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Katherine Center has become one of my “auto-buy” authors, in that I purchase her novels without even reading the book jacket description now. Her novels are utterly readable and engaging and I always love them.

The Bodyguard, which comes out this July, is no exception! This story follows our protagonist Hannah, an Executive Protection Agent (fancy name for the titular “bodyguard”) charged with protecting megastar Jack Stapleton. What ensues is rom-com goodness that elicits pieces of a few of my favorite Sandra Bullock films, While You Were Sleeping and Miss Congeniality.

I loved so much about this story- particularly our time on the ranch- and who wouldn’t love Jack’s parents?!

It’s the type of rom-com that feels like the best 90s movies - full of heart and a tiny bit ridiculous. I truly loved it, and already preordered my hard copy for July.

Make sure to add this one to your TBR if you love romantic comedies!

I love these kinds of stories! Predictable? Yes, but also engaging and well-written. Bodyguard Hannah and famous actor Jack present the perfect duo in this novel, and I enjoyed every minute of their mishaps together and sweet love. Recommended.

This author is an auto request without even looking at the blurb kind of author for me. Unfortunately, this was not one of my favorites. It didn’t have the same emotional depth and spark that her other books did. I honestly think this was a case of it not being the right time for me to read this book. I’ll definitely read her next book, I still love her as an author!

I have more than a couple favorite Katherine Center books. So when I got the opportunity to read her newest book, The Bodygaurd, as an ARC I was ecstatic!!!! And… it did not disappoint. ❤️

I was a little skeptical at first. With the main characters being a bodyguard and a superstar actor… I didn’t think I’d be able to relate and it would just feel like nonsense to me. But I shouldn’t have doubted. Center came through. She builds characters you want to believe in, be best friends with, or read about over and over again.

Our actor, Jack, comes home for a visit because his mom is sick. BUT he has a stalker. So his firm INSISTS on a bodyguard. Easy right? No big story here. Well, he doesn’t want a bodygaurd and definitely doesn’t want his family to know…. Enter Hannah our amazing bodyguard, now turned fake girlfriend for the visit.

At the start I was skeptical reading and clicking to the next page. But at some point it shifted into not wanting to put it down and feeling like I was IN the book. Quite possibly the best feeling ❤️😍🥰

Yes, my friends, Katherine Center has done it again. WHY don’t they use her books for rom-com movies yall?!?! We haven’t had a decent rom-com movie in forever. Although if they ruined her book in a movie I’d be SO MAD 😂🤣😂
