Katherine Center’s The Bodyguard was a fun and sweet read. Hannah Brooks, a bodyguard, is assigned to protect mega movie star Jack Stapleton. Hannah is sent to protect Jack from a stalker under the guise of girlfriend so as not to upset his family, most specifically his mom, recently diagnosed with cancer and undergoing surgery. Hannah falls in love with more than just Jack’s family. There are a series of mishaps and trials as Hannah and Jack try to navigate a professional and ultimately personal relationship. I have read several of the author’s novels, and this one was my favorite! I highly recommend this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC!
Nice to read a book about an atypical, non-sterotypical woman for once.
Hannah Brooks is a bodyguard. A serious one. LIke she could kill you with a pencil if she had to.
Actor Jack Stapleton needs a body guard because he'd got a stalker. Against her wishes, Hannah is assigned to him.
Stalking ensues, feelings emerge, deep introspection takes over.
This was a charming book and I am so glad I asked Netgalley for an arc to read it. The dialogue was cue; the characters were fully developed, and the storyline was solid.
4 stars from me.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press for the free book.
This is my favorite Katherine Center book to date. I absolutely loved Jack and Hannah and wish I could read this again for the first time already because of how beautiful it was. I spent my time wanting to read it quickly because I wanted to see how their romance played out, yet I wanted to read slowly and savor this story. Hannah is unexpected, hilarious, and trying to figure out what love and family mean. Jack struggles with being famous, past trauma, and fitting into his family. They complemented each other so well in this story. Their relationship works for the both of them because of the nature of their meeting. I laughed so many times. I got teary at a couple other parts. Center knows how to create such well rounded characters with lively personalities, and I love getting to know her characters. I could keep gushing, but I would recommend going into this one without reading the synopsis, so the characters can surprise you. I already can't wait to reread this one.
***Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
Love, love, love! Hannah is a bodyguard about to take on a job that is unlike anything she's ever had. Movie star and heartthrob Jack Stapleton has a corgi-loving stalker he wants to keep away from his family. His mom is going through chemo and he doesn't want to stress her out so Hannah poses as his girlfriend. Can an "ordinary" woman find love with a walking sex god, or is it all an act?
I am a huge fan of Katherine Center and I have absolutely loved all of her books - except this one. This read more likely a poorly scripted movie that one of her ordinarily uplifting novels. It was all just to implausible and I did not see the in-depth character development that is present in her other books. Disappointed.
This book is Phenomenal! I absolutely loved it. I love all of her books but this one is special. I will be thinking about the story for many years to come!
Thank you so much, NetGalley, the publisher, and writer for an outstanding book.. I'll never forget this.
Thank you to NetGalley , St. Martin's Press and Katherine Center for the opportunity to read an advance ebook copy of the story in exchange for an honest review.
Love ! So as always Katherine Center does a fantastic job of building a female MC who has grit and determination and is tough as nails, all while being fragile and big hearted.
This time around our MC is a bodyguard. Hannah is small, unexpected , smart , observant, intuitive and cold... a perfect bodyguard for the rich and famous. After losing her mother, Hannah is placed as a primary bodyguard for a famous actor heart throb. She struggles with keeping her distance when they are assigned to stay with his suddenly sick mother and his family at their Texas ranch for one month.
This was a sweet , perfectly developed story of friendship in an unexpected place. And you never know when friendship may actually be something else. Funny and endearing, it is a must read for all fans of Katherine Center, Rom-com, romance and family relationship stories.
I love love love everything Katherine Center comes out with and The Bodyguard was a fresh take on the fake dating trope that I found absolutely charming.
Another GREAT book by Katherine Center!
The Bodyguard had me hooked from the first page and I finished it in 2 days.
You can read the summary to find out about the book, what you need to know is that Katherine Center is an amazing author! Do yourself a favor and start reading her books now…go, do it now!
Hannah is a bad ass body guard, but with self-esteem issues stemming from her childhood. She’s a loner who likes to travel the world with no emotional baggage to deal with … until she’s receives a work assignment in her own home town. In order to protect him from harm, she must pretend to be the girlfriend of a gorgeous movie star. I mean, c’mon, of course, they fall in love. No surprise there, but like all storybook romances … it’s all about the journey.
Katherine Center is one of my favorite authors. Was this one of her best? Probably not. However, she is a pro at setting a scene, making you smile, and engrossing you in the story. Her gift of dialogue is spot-on. I’m not always a fan of rom-coms, but when the writing is as good as this, it makes for a super fun read.
Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
I had a lot of fun reading this! It was tender, emotional, and gripping... which is basically everything I ever want from a book like this. Center really just Gets It, which is incredibly obvious with this book. Center just gets human emotion and manages to convey it in a way that feels fresh.
Ever since I read my first Katherine Center book, she became a must-read, drop everything author for me. So when The Bodyguard made its way into my hands eight months before publication, naturally, I dropped everything. As with all the other KC books I have read, The Bodyguard was everything I hoped for and more. All the feels in the all the right places, emotional where I needed it to be, heartwarming where appropriate and of course, the charm I've come to love from each and every one of Center's novels.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this! I have read a couple of this author's books in the past and this one is much lighter and more like a traditional romance/comedy novel. I don't typically find romance novels funny but this one brought me to laughter several times. The lead character was layered and I loved seeing her tough outer shell come down. Some books are about feeling to me, and I just enjoyed reading this. Would highly recommend for fans of romantic comedy with some tension but little graphic steam. There still were some bigger messages about forgiveness and grief that were incorporated into the story well. Strongly recommend!
I loved this book! I genuinely believe that Katherine Center can not go wrong when writing a novel! Hannah Brooks is an Executive Protection Agent (bodyguard) whose mom just died and her jerk boyfriend, also her coworker, just broke up with her! Her newest case protects Jack Stapleton, a world-famous actor, while he spends time with his family as his mom receives treatment. Hannah must keep her job secret as she pretends to be Jack's girlfriend, but the pair have a huge problem when his mom demands that Jack and his brother move him until Thanksgiving. Hannah must protect Jack and try to determine if the feelings she is getting for her client are real or just part of the job.
This is one of the best romcoms I have read in years! Jack's stalker absolutely made me laugh out loud, and I was furiously reading the novel to find out what would happen between Jack and Hannah. Thank you, Katherine Center, for another swoon-worthy couple
Hannah is sent to be Jack's bodyguard to protect him from a crazy stalker. They stay on Jack's parents farm for a few weeks, and so as to not worry his family.... They pretend to date. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes so I was immediately excited! This over did not disappoint. I loved this book! I'll admit when I first saw the cover, I assumed HE would be the bodyguard, but it was HER! Which just made it so much better. The fake dating relationship was hilarious and perfect. This book had drama, family problems, romance, forgiveness, comedy and life lessons. The banter was witty, the tension & chemistry was strong and the romance... Well let's just say it doesn't stay fake forever.
I did almost throw my book across the room in chapter 30. The ability of this author to make me feel that happy and then that mad in the span of a few pages was extraordinary. But this book ties up so nicely (even has an epilogue!) and I couldn't have loved it more. Jack was my favorite character with Hannah being a VERY close second. "Bobby" though? Bobby can go sit on a cactus.
Fun, funny and emotional, this is contemporary romance you won't want to miss!
Thank you SO MUCH St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is due for publication 7/19/22 and I definitely recommend it!
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center was a sweet, feel-good romance. No steam, if that's your thing. It was also very funny. The ending was a bit ridiculous, but it fit with the tone of the book- it definitely didn't take itself too seriously, and was fun.
I will always read anything and everything Katherine Center writes. With that being said, I think this one ties for a top place on her list. I loved everything about Jack and Hannah. Hannah was so strong and grew so much as a character. I love that KC gives her female leads jobs that you wouldn't expect. The Bodyguard was a fast paced, adorable love story. I couldn't put it down.
Hannah Brooks is 5’5” and not what people’s stereotype of a bodyguard is. That’s what makes her so effective. She knows many ways to kill a person, but the strategy is to figure out and diffuse the threat before it happens.
Jack Stapleton is a wildly hunky actor who has been out of the spotlight since a family tragedy, but when his mother gets sick, he’d like to return home to the family ranch to see her through the treatments, but he’s got a stalker whose threats have gotten increasingly harrowing, and he doesn’t want to bring that danger home. Even though all Hannah wants to do is escape to a new assignment in Korea or England, her boss persuades her that if she wants a shot at the London job, she’ll have to pose for a few weeks as Jack’s girlfriend. Her ex, another Executive Protection Agent, says there’s no way someone as average in appearance as Hannah could possibly be persuasive as the movie star’s girlfriend, since he dates women that are far, far from plain. Unfortunately, Hannah agrees with him.
But not long into her assignment, she finds herself falling for Jack, which puts him at risk—if she can’t see things clearly, she can’t protect him. I enjoyed the premise of the novel and the evolution of Jack and Hannah’s relationship, Jack’s relationship with his family, and Hannah’s relationship with how she sees herself. This is a fun, fast read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this novel, which RELEASES JULY 19 2022.
Oh my goodness… put this one at the top of your to read pile!it is simply fantastic! You see the title of this one and it brings back images of Kevin Costner in the movie of the same title… if that is what you are expecting, well you are in for a few surprises! Character development is in optimal form in this one. Robby is the king of douches… really he takes the crown. Taylor epitomizes the role of friend…. And foe. And Jack, well Jack is troubled…. He is the best of both the good and downtrodden in the world. He is a tortured soul with a twist. This would make for a fantastic Rom-Com on the big screen…. I wish it wasn’t over…. Thanks to NetGalley for this book hangover!
Funny, sharp, and romantic, and The Bodyguard has all the makings of a top-selling contemporary romance. It is riddled with favorite tropes (the accursed One Bed, the formidable Fake Dating, the stunning Celebrity/Fan roller coaster) that make it feel familiar, but its premise makes it feel new. Hannah Brooks is a bodyguard trained to be a lethal weapon, but she seemingly gets demoted to going undercover for an actor’s protection. It’s mostly fun, with a little pinch of seriousness. I am not sure how much research went into bodyguard protection, but I was willing to suspend my practical concerns to enjoy the humor. The ending goes a little too action/FBI/cop chase for me, but it was a lovely read overall, perfect for a romantic comedy film adaptation.
