This was a Very cute rom com with an small air of mystery. It was also a slightly different trope than most. The female mc was the grump instead of the male Mc
Most of us, at some point, have fallen in love with a character in a movie and imagined meeting the movie star in real life and starring in our own Hollywood romance. But in The Bodyguard by Katherine Center, one woman has to figure out how to maintain her composure while working for a Hollywood heartthrob.

I feel bad, but I think I need to finally face the fact that I am just not really a Katherine Center fan. It's nothing at all against her, but her books don't seem to be my style and I just don't understand how people love them so much. But her covers are so freaking gorgeous I get sucked into reading every single one! and then I'm disappointed each time.
I mean, The Bodyguard was fine and maybe I just needed to let myself go and enjoy it. But I just had way too many issues with it It's a cute concept if not wildly unrealistic. At first, I could picture it as a movie with Sandra Bullock playing Hannah, the bodyguard.
I didn't really understand what the big deal with "protecting" Jack at all costs was. Celebrities live without this level of security all the time. The corgi stalker lady didn't feel like a major threat to me when you think about what lots of other celebrities have to deal with. And why were they suddenly so worried about her just because he was in a new place when she had clearly been around for a while?? And then the ending? What the heck. It felt so unrealistic and weird that I realized Sandra Bullock would never agree to the script.
Also, one second Hannah said Jack couldn't be out of her sight for a second and then the next, she left to go to her office without even telling him?? Oh, and she's so on-guard at all times and could literally protect Jack from a gunman if needed, but is frightened by cows? I'm not buying it. Even small parts of the book felt off to me, like when Jack is telling his parents the truth about him and Hannah- they're reaction was just so strange.
This book was just meh all around for me. It felt like the author had a fun concept for a book (I agree!), but then took it in all sorts of unrealistic and weird directions.
But clearly PLENTY of people are loving this one and I'm in the minority. I think if you like a lot of cheesiness and fake dating tropes and don't need a book to feel realistic, you might like this one more than I did!
Katherine Center's The Bodyguard is the story of bodyguard Hannah Brooks and actor Jack Stapleton. This story full of humor, love, secrets, and suspense will make you fall in love with these adorable characters. I voluntarily read this complimentary copy of this well-written, uplifting book. Well done, Katherine Center!
This was such a sweet rom com! I loved seeing Hannah and Jack's relationship develop over the course of this story.
I thought this book was a super cute twist on a romance plot trope: The bodyguard and the client, but the bodyguard is a petite woman, and the client is a tall man!
I think Hannah and Jack were really symbiotic - this may be more evident as I am grieving my own parent, but I understand Hannah's actions (and Jack's) without any judgement.
They were a quirky couple together, but it's what made them work. Loved it!
I enjoyed this. Hannah is a bodyguard and has to protect a handsome movie star. She ends up pretending to be his girlfriend. It is a typical romance - they get to know each other and fall in love. But it's also funny, heart warming, sad and has a bit of excitement and drama.
Overall quite a good book - exactly what I needed - a fun romance.
Thank you to NetGalley, Katherine Center and St Martin’s Press for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
I am now having a major book hangover. Center can do no wrong for me, she’s writes some of my very favourite characters. But this one is my favourite yet! I loved seeing a female in the more stereotypical male position and who doesn’t wonder in their life if they are loveable. This was so sweet and yet so relevant. I binged this and I will 100% recommend this to EVERYONE!
I was super excited when I saw Katherine Center had a new book out and I'll admit I went into this one blind. I mean, it's Katherine Center - of course I'm going to read it!
So, imagine my surprise when I found out that the gender roles were reversed! A female bodyguard?! Sign me up (and cue Whitney belting out in joy)... but.... I didn't really love how it played out unfortunately. I kinda felt like her old role was downplayed, almost characterized and a bit over the top cutesy slapstick.
Why couldn't she badass? Why so many gaffes and klutzy moments and irrational fears? I felt like she was written to be weak, and the male had to "save her" - yes, I know, that last scene was kinda badass, but up until that point I felt a bit embarrassed for her. She's an elite bodyguard and I just didn't get the sense of elite until a bit of the last few chapters? Whyyyy do we keep doing this to women? Why can't they be badass from page one?
I thought it was cute - a little too sugary light and sweet, and not my favorite book of hers. I just feel like it was a missed opportunity to really have a women shine in a male dominated industry.
Hannah has been having a rough time when she is assigned as a protection agent/bodyguard for movie star Jack. He hasn’t been in the spotlight for quite some time following the death of his little brother. Jacks mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and to keep his family out of the loop of why he needs protection, he asks Hannah to pretend to be his girlfriend. Shouldn’t be a problem right? But what happens when Hannah starts to really fall for him?
Please do not come for me booksta, but I did not love this book. It actually took me almost a week to finish it and I never take that long with romance novels. I could get past the little to no spice but there was like zero natural chemistry between the Mc’s in my opinion. I really liked the idea of this book. I mean a female bodyguard for a big movie star of a man, sounds golden. I wanted to love it so much so I am a bit disappointed. But I think my main issue here was the ending that felt like multiple endings that were kind of rushed into it for no reason.
Overall it was a nice heartfelt read but not for me. I still would recommend for those looking for a cute and light read. Thank you NetGalley, Katherine Center, and St. Martin’s Press for this galley copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book was an absolute delight! Fun, heartwarming, sweet. The premise felt fresh, the characters likeable and well developed and the banter was fantastic! I laughed out loud a lot. I am begging for this to become a movie!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommend and have already purchased a hardcopy for my shelves!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's press. This was a good read. It was quite funny and heart felt throughout. A woman bodyguard....exactly. what I want to read. To me..quite realistic.
A big Thank You to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!!
Great story!! Hannah, after losing her mother to cancer, then dumped by her boyfriend/work colleague, is assigned to be an Executive Protection Agent (a.k.a., bodyguard) to famous movie star Jack Stapleton.
The chemistry is sizzling, the humor is abundant, and I couldn't put the book down!!
Highly recommended!!
I was definitely intrigued by this book however the insta love just was not cutting it for me. I enjoyed the concept of the book. It was giving me “the proposal” vibe. I ended up listening to the audiobook and I honestly feel like it kept me more entertained than the book did. This was my first Katherine center book. I’d definitely try more of her books.
What a cute romcom of a female bodyguard protecting a male movie star. The bodyguard has come upon some bad luck with losing her mom, feeling I loved and having a terrible boyfriend when she’s placed on assignment to protect a popular movie star that has his share of problems too.
Thank you so much for the advanced copy of the Bodyguard! I am so mad at myself for not reading this sooner.
I sat here and read this book on one sitting. I was completely engrossed in the story and could not put it down.
I absolutely loved Hannah and her story. What a cool career for a chick too. Made me want to get into self defense classes.
Jack was well written and fleshed out perfectly. His parents were great side characters. (Just one question though, how did everything end up with his mom??)
Also BOBBY!!!!! What a JERK!!!
I will never stop raving about this book. Exactly what I was looking for.
Loved it loved loved it. Five stars.
If you are looking for a book that is well-written, charming, and fun, look no further! I devoured this in a day- I just couldn't tear myself away from it! The characters were well-rounded and I rooted for them all from the very first page.
If you only read one book this year, make it this one. It's escapism at its finest!
This book was such a delight! The “normal girl who falls in love with a movie star” plot may be a common trope, but it’s a fun one. Katherine Center added just enough gravity to the story by sharing Hannah and Jack’s backgrounds to keep this from being too fluffy. The dialogue was sharp and witty and I found myself laughing out loud several times. This was a great closed door romance.
Y’all… Y’ALL, this book! This book is set on a ranch in Texas, so this CT girl can get away with that here. Hannah Brooks has had her heart broken in a million ways, and the girl has WALLS. Enter Jack Stapleton, the swoony movie star that Hannah has been assigned to protect, to tear them all down. The spark between these two MCs dances off the page as they figure out how to rescue each other. Katherine Center’s writing is pure magic! Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins for my gifted ARC!
This is a super cute romance. Usually the bodyguard is a male, but in this story, Hannah is the bodyguard to an a-list celebrity. Not only that, but she has to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to remain close to him while at his parent's ranch. With his mother being sick, he doesn't want to upset her by informing her that he has a stalker situation, so instead he decides to cover up Hannah's presence by claiming her as his girlfriend. I mean, what could go wrong?
I really enjoyed the progress that Hannah goes through during this story. She just lost her mother at the beginning of the book. Has never felt safe and loved. Puts herself wholly into her job, and was recently dumper by her boyfriend. So it's safe to say that she's having a rough go of it at the beginning and that her self-esteem is a little shot. However, as the story progresses, you see her start to open up more. A lot had to do with Jack and his parents who just seemed to accept her, and welcome her into their family.
Not only was the growth great, but the romance was too stinking cute. Hannah thought it was all acting but the things Jack did when no one was around, like running up to her when he can't find her at the ranch and got worried, or just always subtly looking out for her had me swooning all over the place. Their romance was so slow and adorable that it was hard not to smile at the book while I was reading.
If you're looking for a swoon worth romance involving an actor and his bodyguard, then definitely pick this up. This might have been one of my favorite fake dating scenarios due to it adding in the celebrity aspect.
