I found this book slow to start and kind of cheesy but it turned out to be really good! The character development is what made me stuck with it. There is some talk about grief and suicide towards the end. Over all I give this book a 4 star, some parts are super like what is the point in that being said.
Hannah is a body guard but you would never know it. Jack is a big movie star whom Hannah needs to protect when he comes back to texas .however there is one catch she has to pretend to be his girlfriend and pull it off to protect.
This book was so much fun to read!!! I laughed so many times while reading that I lost count. I would not be surprised to see this book adapted into a rom-com screenplay. I loved the unique reverse bodyguard trope and it was written so well! It was like a spoonful of sugar and the perfect feel-good rom-com!! Overall I rated it 5 stars!
Such a great book! Super cute story with Jack and all his swoon worthy moments! Hannah had a big confidence boost at the end of the story and she finally allowed herself to believe herself worthy of being loved and accept Jack. Same goes for Jack. He was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders protecting his brother and family. Such a great character development overall. The epilogue was perfect! I loved how it was written as if Hannah was speaking to us and personally giving us the updates of her life.
The Bodyguard is the perfect summer read! I can always count on Katherine Center’s books to be a great escape. I thought the plot line was clever and unexpected. All the feels!! I would recommend any of her books. Thanks for a great read!
Absolutely delightful! This was cheery, witty, fresh, and FUN! I love the authors writing and find her to be so charming. The characters were relatable and so stinkin cute. I just didn’t want this one to end! A lovely, unique storyline and a cast of amazing supporting characters. I think we need a spinoff of some of these characters! I loved this from beginning to end.
I love Katherine Center- she writes dynamic female characters and this book is no different. Hannah Brooks is a personal bodyguard, which is not a typical role that you read about in these types of books. However, she is flawed, funny, and learns how to love herself even when the rest of the world seems to tell her otherwise.
Great dialogue, fun read.
Katherine truly never disappoints in her writing. It draws you in from the first page and allows you to just have fun reading. Thank you to St Martins Press and NetGalley for the review copy!
Hannah is “too short” to be a bodyguard but, that’s exactly what she is. She’s fierce and she will protect you at all costs. She also just got hired to protect Superstar Jack Stapleton from a middle aged knitting corgi lover. Yep, sounds funny until she starts making threats of how she’ll kill Hannah. Fun fact, Robby, another agent just broke up with Hannah and cheated on her with another agent. Oh and he did it right after her Moms funeral. Fun times for Hannah.
I truly enjoyed this read, it was fast, easy and ENJOYABLE!! It made me laugh and it made me smile. Characters were well developed, plot was fantastic and the ending was oh sooo good! Loved it! Five stars all the way!! The perfect summer read y’all!
I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't love it. I have really enjoyed several of Center's other books, but this one felt so cheesy to me. I just didn't believe... well much of anything in this book. And, not that you have to. I don't know. It just didn't work for me.
Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for providing an ARC for my review.
I really enjoyed the role reversal from the normal “male bodyguard” trope. This book seemed very slow moving at first. There was a lot of set up in the beginning but oh boy does it pay off towards the middle and end. The epilogue made me laugh and I love how it was done.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the eARC of this book. I had such a fun time reading it. The storyline was laughable and easy to follow along with. I really enjoyed all of the characters in the book and liked how Hannah and Jack’s relationship progressed along the way. The book did touch upon mental health at one point, without spoiling any further details. This was a cute romcom that could certainly be adapted into a movie at some point.
This book reads like a rom-com from the 90's/early 00's. If Miss Congeniatlity met Notting Hill, this would be the final result. It's fun and quirky and a quick read. There's great banter, a sexy, swoon-worthy hero, and a main character you want to see come out of top. This is wonderful summer read.
That being said, it's all a little out there. I don't know if I'm remembering Katherine Center's other books wrong, but this one felt different. It felt a lot fluffier, far more chick-lit than a more serious women's fiction (but still with a little light-heartedness) I expected. For some reason this book made me think of Sophie Kinsella rather than Katherine Center, but that's probably just me. I'm not sure that this book is meant to be serious or even realistic because I didn't find the narrator believable in her position or really any of the security team. They all felt a bit like caricatures of people. Some of their behaviors or words are on the extreme. And Hannah's narration was too cutesy to take her serious. She felt more like the insecure girl-next-door than a competent bodyguard who can kill you with a paperclip. I know she's supposed to be underestimated, but it felt so far that I didn't believe it even when she does go in to save the day.
Maybe my expectations for this book were off since I read more realistic fiction than fun, quirky chick-lit, so I feel like my review the one this book really deserves. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. I love the banter and the family and Hannah's discoveries about herself and what it means to be your best person. It was wonderful to see how someone who seems to have it all can have struggles that the world doesn't see. There are moments of depth and greatness in the book, but some of it gets lost in the fluffiness. I would definitely recommend this to someone who is looking for a little fun, a little romance, and some laughs.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I can always count on Katherine Center to bring all the emotions with some amazingly complex characters all rolled up into the best little rom coms ever. She definitely delivered on The Bodyguard.
The Bodyguard is a fake dating trope where Hannah Brooks is quickly working her way up the ladder and clearly her job is her focus, that is until she’s tasked with guarding celebrity, Jack Stapleton. Throw in that he’s mega famous, from a little town in Texas, has his own army of stalkers and she looks like a Kindergarten teacher and you know you’re going to have a great storyline.
What I loved even more than the laugh-out-loud moments was the serious, deeply challenging moments Jack and Hannah had. And of course I just adored Jack’s parents!
I listened to this audio while we were driving to the Outer Banks and it made the time fly by! I would also go between this and the text version. I highly recommend it on audio and/or print- such a great narrator and storyline! Thank you @katherinecenter for my #gifted copy.
This was a fun, cute, feel good story. The main character Hannah is an executive protection agent, but not the type you would normally picture. She gets a new assignment who happens to be a heartthrob movie star and the evolution of their relationship. This book goes deeper than most rom coms which I appreciated. I felt for Hannah and was caught off guard by the twist in the end. As far as Rom Com romances go, I enjoyed this one and felt it was fast paced without a lot of fluff which is how I like it. I found the beginning of the Epilog a little strange and maybe political (?), but did enjoy finding out "where are they now" about each character.
I loved this sweet and funny book! The characters have great chemistry and each have their own set of insecurities. Hannah is a kickass bodyguard assigned to Jack, who’s a famous movie star and sex symbol. He’s has at least 1 known stalker, an older woman who breeds corgis and knits handmade sweaters. Jack has been a recluse after the death of his brother, but his mom is sick and wants him to come home to Texas.
Jack doesn’t want his family to know he needs a bodyguard, so Hannah becomes his fake girlfriend. When they arrive, his family falls in love with her, and she with them. Pretty soon, she and Jack start to have feelings for each other too. This is a great book, 5 stars.
Synopsis:
She’s got his back.
Hannah Brooks looks more like a kindgerten teacher than somebody who could kill you with a wine bottle opener. Or a ballpoint pen. Or a dinner napkin. But the truth is, she’s an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"), and she just got hired to protect superstar actor Jack Stapleton from his middle-aged, corgi-breeding stalker.
He’s got her heart.
Jack Stapleton’s a household name—captured by paparazzi on beaches the world over, famous for, among other things, rising out of the waves in all manner of clingy board shorts and glistening like a Roman deity. But a few years back, in the wake of a family tragedy, he dropped from the public eye and went off the grid.
They’ve got a secret.
When Jack’s mom gets sick, he comes home to the family’s Texas ranch to help out. Only one catch: He doesn’t want his family to know about his stalker. Or the bodyguard thing. And so Hannah—against her will and her better judgment—finds herself pretending to be Jack’s girlfriend as a cover. Even though her ex, like a jerk, says no one will believe it.
What could possibly go wrong???
Hannah hardly believes it, herself. But the more time she spends with Jack, the more real it all starts to seem. And there lies the heartbreak. Because it’s easy for Hannah to protect Jack. But protecting her own, long-neglected heart? That’s the hardest thing she’s ever done.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.

This book is a fun and quick read with a fun mix of romance and witty observations by the female protagonist. I liked the writing style of the author. The plot is a take on the fake relationship trope. I appreciated the role reversal where the female MC is the Executive Protection Agent (aka bodyguard) of the male love interest. It also has its moments of surprising (albeit predictable) twists. I wouldn't go into this expecting something deep, emotional or steamy though. It's not the best book of the genre but I would definitely re-read.
Hannah Brooks may look like a plain, ordinary, kindergarten teacher however; she’s anything but that. Hannah can actually kill with a corkscrew or even a ballpoint pen, Hanna is actually an Executive Protection Agent (aka, a bodyguard), her small size and unassuming looks make it easy for her to blend in and protect her clients. Right now, she’s going through the roughest time in her life since she was little. Her mother just passed away and the day after her mother’s funeral her boyfriend Robby dumped her, even worse, he called her a bad kisser. Now Hannah is on assignment being the EPA for hot and hunky Jack Stapleton, a famous movie star.
Sparks ignite between the pair in the cutest ways in this wonderfully amazing story of love and protection. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I smiled, I laughed, my heart pounded at the end when all the drama happens. I was drinking this book in and loving every last refreshing drop of it.

I was very quickly sucked into Jack and Hannah's story. It's fast paced and the characters, or most of them, were engaging.
The Bodyguard is in fact the perfect balance of a traditional romcom and tearjerker.
I like a bit of spice with my romance usually but this story stands so beautifully without the need for added spice.
I wouldn't consider it slow burn because it's just not intrinsic to the plot. That's not to say that the last 20% doesn't tie everything up in a suitably impressive bow though.
I wonder this is a taster and we're due to meet more of Glenn's EPAs in future novels by Katherine Center? I would certainly be up for that!
All in all I found The Bodyguard to be a quick enjoyable read and a lovely vehicle as an introduction to a new-to-me author.
Hannah Brooks lost her mom, got dumped by her boyfriend, and was told by her boss to take a break. She hates breaks. As an Executive Protection Assistant (Bodyguard) her job keeps her moving from place to place and that’s just how she likes it. Her newest assignment is to protect Hollywood star Jack Stapleton, right in her home state of Texas. She’s not happy about it but if she does a good job, her boss has promised her an assignment in London. With the prize in her sights, she reluctantly agrees to protect Jack. But things get turned upside down when the plan changes and she has to be his fake girlfriend. Suddenly lines are blurred and neither are sure what’s genuine. Can fake dating turn into real love?
I really enjoyed this sweet, closed door romance. I loved Hannah being a bodyguard! I also loved that we saw all sides of her: her feisty personality, her insecurities, her kindness, and her growth. This was a great read!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I’m only mildly embarrassed to say I read this before I was “supposed” to. You see, I ordered it as my July Authentic Books box, so I am expecting to receive it in the mail very soon. However, I had a NetGalley copy just staring me in the face for months. Sooo, I gave in.
When a personal protection agent is hired to be the bodyguard for a famous celebrity, the last thing she expected was the role of “girlfriend” to be part of her duties. After coming off her mother’s death and a rough breakup, she’s hoping to get this over with and escape back into her normal travel schedule. As she spends time with Jack and his family though, her priorities start to shift.
Ahhh this is just as good as we’ve all come to expect from Katherine Center! My only reason for dropping it down a half star is because it got a little philosophical and gushy toward the end. Outside of skimming a few paragraphs, I adored this story
