I enjoyed this one, but like all Katherine Center books, the ending just didn’t do it for me. It had a lot of promise. The characters were a tad one dimensional, though. On the whole, I was hoping for more here.
Every time I think Katherine Center couldn’t top her last novel, she somehow manages to blow it out of the water. This book has been my number one recommendation this year. With a completely unexpected twist this one had me in shock and tears. Five stars!
The Bodyguard is yet another amazing read by Katherine Center. Hannah Brooks isn't exactly who you would think of when you thought of a bodyguard, but that's part of the appeal. When she's hired to protect movie star, Jack Stapleton, it's just another day on the job, right? Wrong. Jack doesn't want anyone to think anything is wrong, so instead of admitting to hiring a bodyguard, Hannah has to pretend to be his girlfriend. Nothing could go wrong here right? This book made me laugh out loud way too many times. There was definitely some action-y type things going on, as you would expect in life when you have to get a bodyguard involved. But I loved seeing the inside of Hannah's mind as she figures out how to handle it. This is definitely one of my favorite Katherine Center books and she's an autobuy author for me for sure.
This book was a witty sexy read. The plot was fairly simple to follow and built up great chemistry between the main characters. I loved the banter of this book, as well. I really related to the theme of the main character never fully opening up herself to love and relationships.
I was unable to read this graphic novel before its publication date, but my library owns two copies. It is used for displays and given as readers' advisory.
I am so grateful I received this ARC. I loved that Hannah was the bodyguard in this story--it's always a guy so that was a fun twist. Hannah is awesome, and I loved seeing her perspective and how she landed in that career. I normally do not like rom coms or romances of any kind where one of the characters is a celebrity of any kind--be that actor, singer, etc. I broke that rule for this book because Jack is just so likeable and a great fit for Hannah. So, great, unique characters. A good story that will keep you turning pages. And a sweet HEA. But the main reason I am happy I read this is that I had never heard of Katherine Center before and now I have a new favorite author. I went on to discover Happiness for Beginners based on the strength of this, which turned out to be one of my favorite romances EVER. I will now drop everything to read a Katherine Center!
The Bodyguard was the first novel I've read by Katherine Center and I now understand what all the fuss is about. The Bodyguard is expertly written. Emotional, funny, heartbreaking.. you name it. The characters were easy to connect with I loved the strong female themes that were center stage in this book. It also didn't follow the "typical' romance formula which was a nice surprise. This was hands down one of my favourite books from 2022.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you Netgalley for the e-ARC of this title. I enjoyed reading this title. Would recommend for my library.
In "The Bodyguard," Katherine Center once again showcases her exceptional storytelling skills, drawing readers in with her well-crafted characters and engaging plot. The novel follows the story of a Hannah Brooks, an Executive Protection Agent (aka "bodyguard"). Her job? Protect actor Jack Stapleton at all costs.
What I loved most about "The Bodyguard" was how it combined elements of romance, suspense, and personal growth in a seamless and satisfying way. The characters were relatable and well-developed, with complex personalities and backstories that made them feel like real people. I found myself rooting for them and invested in their journey, which kept me turning the pages until the very end. Speaking of the end... WOW!
Overall, I would highly recommend "The Bodyguard" to anyone looking for a captivating and heartwarming read. Katherine Center is truly a talented author, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. And if you loved "Things You Save in a Fire," I'm sure you'll find "The Bodyguard" to be just as enjoyable, if not more so!
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is a great book! Fun story! Witty dialogue! Very enjoyable book! I love a book that makes me smile!
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is available tomorrow! This romance has movie stars, fake dating, and lots of emotions. I loved it.
Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for allowing me to read this one early!
CW include off page death of a family member and troubled childhood, as well as an ill family member on page and some gun violence near the end.
I described The Bodyguard as a combination of Katherine Center’s last two books. Lots of heart and emotion as well as the strong “I don’t need anyone” female MC in a typically male job. I thought there was a lot of tough scenes and things the characters were working on but none of them felt overly heavy and I did think there was a lot of humour in the mix too.
Overall a fantastic summer romance!
A Katherine Center has not disappointed me yet. I have been on a spy fiction kick and although this would probably be considered a romantic comedy, it has a touch of thriller and spy elements. Mostly this is an entertaining book with cute comedy, cozy settings, and a fun-to-watch romance. This was a perfect book for my mood. I gave it 5 stars because it was the perfect read for me. It is a fairly tame romance with just a few swears and the steamy scenes are very subtle.
Hannah is a bodyguard and accepts jobs all over the world. She doesn't look tough and isn't big but she has the skills to get the job done. The job she is assigned is fairly easy. She is protecting a movie star from a social media stalker by pretending to be his girlfriend. This setup is begging for a romance to start!
This was such a fun book by Katherine Center! I love how she puts her female characters in untraditional roles like firefighters and as in The Bodyguard, a bodyguard! Hannah was a strong lead and took her newest client, superstar actor Jack Stapleton, in stride. This book delivered some of my favourite romance tropes, forced proximity and fake dating! Hannah embarks on a facade to be Jack's girlfriend at his family's ranch in order to better protect him. The power dynamic between these two was so refreshing and their chemistry was a nice slow burn. They each began to let their walls own and let the other in Family was a large theme in this book when it came to the Stapleton's. I flew through this book and there were some funny comedic moments as well. Another charming and enjoyable read by Katherine Center.
This was some bookstagrammer’s favorite books of the year and, while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t my favorite. The characters were likable and I liked that it was set in my hometown. I would have like a little more chemistry between the two main characters! Overall a 3/5!
This is one of my favorites from Katherine Center! The characters were so likeable, and the story was just a gem. I really loved it!
Sorry, I am trying to clean up my netgalley and clear some old books. I loved this book and currently reading her newest.
Katherine Center has done it again! This was such a fun form of escapism to read. I loved the main female character being a badass bodyguard and the lead male character being a movie star. I loved reading the setting of the Texas cattle ranch and the interactions with the star's family. The way Katherine Center writes her characters is just delightful.
Honestly until the last third this book was hovering around 3 stars - it was good, but not "Katherine Center good." And then the stalker zeroed in on Hannah and all bets were off. I ended up zooming through the rest of this book at breakneck speed and loved every word (the sentence "her boobs were....boobier" made me laugh out loud for a solid thirty seconds, AT LEAST). In short, this one needs some time to take off but please, please give it the time it needs! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
This was a cute story but definitely not one of my favorites of Katherine Center's books. It was entertaining but I just didn't love it. Three solid stars for me.
Just when I think I've found my new favorite Katherine Center book, she writes an even better one - and The Bodyguard is my new favorite. There was fake dating and forced proximity - it was delightful to read about the lines between Jack and Hannah's fake relationship blurring with their real one. Their chemistry? Excellent. You just can't help but root for them - even when they were both confused about each other. There was also a fair amount of family drama - there was tension in Jack's family, and Hannah's work family was messy as hell - but all the side characters really added to the fun of the story. This book was sweet, swoony, funny and a delight to read. I need a movie adaptation of this one ASAP.
