This book was so much fun and I just couldn't put it down. I'll admit to losing a few precious hours of sleep just to finish this little gem. Although somewhat predictable, this is a true rom com with depth and self discovery.
Hannah is a very ordinary looking, plain Jane, no frills body guard who lives for her work. A rough childhood has left her with trust issues and she is reluctant to open herself up to anyone. All of her close relationships are wrapped up in her office which turns out to be more of a curse than a blessing .
When she is assigned to protect the world's sexiest and most famous male actor, she resists the placement in lieu of a more challenging and serious assignment. What unfolds is the discovery that not all actors are who they seem. I really enjoyed watching the two main characters help each other to overcome past trauma and become better and happier versions of themselves.
This is the perfect escape read and is by far my favorite book by Katherine Center.
Hannah Brooks is a bodyguard assigned to movie star Jack Stapleton. She's not happy about this assignment and so you can guess the trope!!! Ding ding ding! Enemies to lovers with a dash of slow burn. This is a romcom sure to get you into the mood to read some heavier books afterwards. Or you can try more from Katherine! Either way, enjoy!
Executive protective agent Hannah Brooks is dying to get back into the field after some forced personal leave, but to her extreme horror, is wrangled instead into protecting mega-watt actor Jack Stapleton. Bad enough to be grounded in Texas, but because Jack doesn’t want his sick mom to know he has a stalker, he introduces Hannah as his girlfriend, a prospect she finds alarming. The fake-dating setup is hilarious, the stuck-with-his-family dynamics compelling, and this librarian recommends this cute rom-com for fans of Miss Congeniality and romance lovers everywhere.
Hannah Brooks works at one of the best executive protection agencies, in other words, she’s a bodyguard. She knows how to assess danger and can flip a fully grown man on his back if she needs to. Right after her mother’s death, her boyfriend breaks up with her and she’s looking for an escape. But then, she gets assigned a threat level yellow in her own hometown. Needless to say, she’s not happy about it. Except, her principal is non other than world famous actor, Jack Stapleton. Hannah has to pretend to be Jack’s girlfriend so that his family doesn’t know he’s in danger. This turns out to be one of the most challenging and rewarding assignments she could have been given.
This was so cute! I absolutely loved the two main characters, Hannah and Jack. The fact that Hannah was the bodyguard was awesome. She didn’t look like one, but she knew how to do her job and was extremely professional. I really liked how Jack was so down to earth. I was definitely not expecting some of the events in the last few chapters, but they gave the book a little something extra. The only thing I didn’t really love about this book was the huge meltdown that Kennedy Monroe had at Thanksgiving. I thought it was really unrealistic and could have been done better. Overall, this was such a fantastic romance! It had humor, love, and a little bit of suspense!
The Bodyguard was delightful! It was the perfect low angst, rom-com read that I needed after a few heavier books. The writing was well done, the story was entertaining, and it had lots of fun rom-com tropes. Katherine Center has a gift of writing books that are immensely readable. I fly through them, and I'm always left with a smile.
This book had an adorable premise. Jack Stapleton, movie star heartthrob, was being stalked by a middle aged lady. Hannah and her team of bodyguards were hired to protect Jack, and the swooniest love story unfolds from there. I loved the witty banter and slow burn romance between our main characters. They both had issues from the past they were working through but do so with good communication. Jack's family and Hannah's coworkers were great additions to the story.
I've heard Katherine Center described as a great gateway to romance. I would agree. Her books have low steam and unique premises, and they are bursting with the heart that romance readers long for. This book in particular felt like sunshine and joy. Definitely pick it up when you are in the mood for something lighthearted!
4.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced e-book in exchange for my honest review!
Thank you so much to Net Galley, the publisher, and author for providing this book for my honest review. I am a huge Katherine Center fan. I love how she always adds a bit of hope, positivity, and kindness into each novel. The Bodyguard is not just a rom-com. It is so much more. It is for sure romantic and funny, but it’s also so uplifting and empowering. It’s just a beautiful book all around and I can’t imagine anyone not absolutely loving this book. I can’t wait to purchase this when it is released.
"And, in the end, do you ever truly know for sure if you're lovable? What a question. You don't. You can't. Of course not. Life never hands out the answers like that. But maybe that's not even the right question. Maybe love isn't a judgment you render- but a chance you take. Maybe it's something you choose to do- over and over. For yourself. And everyone else."
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's for allowing me to read this book and review it. Katherine Center continues to be one of my favorite authors and this book is now my favorite written by her. I loved Hannah and Jack and the way their story played out. I hate to admit this but I think I had tears in my eyes through most of the second half the book. I truly believe it's because I connected with Hannah and the fact that she struggled with knowing if she was lovable (I know I struggle with this sometimes as I'm sure many of us do). Katherine also featured Toledo in the book which just happens to be where I went to college and was surprised to see it in the book (even if it was a very small portion of the book). If you get the chance to read this book, please do as it's excellent!
If you like your fiction with a rom com feel and are looking for something fun and charming and feel good, this book is a perfect pick! I enjoyed this so much. It was heartfelt but also made me laugh.
This was the entertainment I was looking for. I particularly enjoyed the first person voice of the main character, her unusual career and the plot premise. I loved the opposites attract aspect and the fact that the story involves a movie star.
I was SO EXCITED to start The Bodyguard by Katherine Center! I love that her books always have such strong plot lines. It’s romance, but the plot surrounding the love story is always spectacular.
Hannah Brooks works for a professional protection agency. Jack Stapleton is a movie star that disappeared from Hollywood after a family tragedy. When his mother is diagnosed with cancer, he goes back to Texas to help his family through her treatment and Hannah is the primary agent assigned on the team sent to protect him from a stalker determined to coerce his love.
All the characters in this book were fantastic and I streamed through the narrative. It was phenomenal! I’ve already recommended this book to a few of my friends and will continue to do so when it comes out.

Best Katherine Center book ever! I will read anything Katherine writes. I loved everything about this book.
It was laugh out loud funny. I was reading lines out loud to my husband, who also laughed out loud. This has to be my favorite book of the year so far.
Hannah, a body guard, is assigned Jack Stapleton has her principal. She is not excited about it and tries multiple times to turn the job down. Jack is a smoking hot actor. They both have troubled pasts. And since this is a book written by Katherine Center, you know there is a lot of personal growth in store.
Please, do yourself a favor and buy this book as soon as it’s available.
Katherine Center is one of my favorite authors because I know exactly what I’m going to get when I read one of her books and I know it’s what I need sometimes. It’s going to be a love story of two damaged people with weird jobs and they’re going to meet and fall in love, overcoming their personal demons. AND I LOVE IT.
The Bodyguard is an excellent execution of this formula I love. I adored Hannah, the female protagonist and laughed out loud multiple times during her narrated chapters. Jack’s story made me cry multiple times. Reading The Bodyguard was like settling in with an old friend, all Katherine Centers’ books. In a world that’s always looking for a new idea or concept, I personally sometimes love the old standards and knowing exactly what you’re going to get when you crack open a book.
I'm calling it! This will be the feel-good film... I mean book... of the summer! The cover is adorable, the premise is so much fun, and Jack Stapleton is the man candy we all need right now. The Bodyguard was a delightful read that had me laughing and swooning with every word.
Hannah Brooks is an independent woman. She hates staying in one place and her job as an Executive Protection Agent (aka bodyguard) allows her to travel the world without ever getting too close to anyone. That is, until she's assigned a hunky, and newly reclusive, A-list celebrity as her client. Not only do we have a smart and capable FEMALE bodyguard protecting Hollywood royalty, but we're also treated to some adorable FAKE DATING!
I'll admit fake dating isn't my favorite trope because I hate when the lines between acting and reality get blurred, especially when it comes to the characters' feelings. The Bodyguard makes things even more complicated because Jack is a professional actor who has starred in plenty of rom coms. This man gets paid to make ladies swoon! Then again, Hannah is an expert at reading people and situations, so it does make for an interesting match. The plot was entertaining enough that I could have probably done without the fake relationship, but that's just a personal preference.
I enjoyed the writing but I'm not really a fan of the main character talking to the reader and that does happen a lot in this book. The tone is very casual and conversational, and I found it to be a bit rambling at times. That being said, The Bodyguard was a cute read that I definitely recommend to romance and chick lit lovers.
I always loo forward to Katherine Center’s novels! Although this book was cute, it was not my favorite. maybe because I’m comparing to her others which I always find are 5 stars in my books!!!
I do love how passionate the heroine is about her career and I love how it’s made to be more realistic given she’s a tiny woman. :) very cute story!
This emotional roller coaster combines romance with a hint of mystery. It’s also closed door, which works well with the story. I loved Hannah and Jack’s journey getting to know each other - and themselves. They are both smart, authentic, and relatable. I have found a new favorite author! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC to read and review. All opinions are my own.
After having read several of Katherine Center’s other books & absolutely loving them, I couldn’t wait any longer to dive in to THE BODYGUARD!
My thoughts:
-the cow scene (and multiple others) had me laughing out loud
-loved the unique job of Hannah being a bodyguard. it was really interesting & refreshing
-found myself a little annoyed with the amount of times the full name Jack Stapleton was used.
-the epilogue was perfection. it tied everything up perfectly in a nice little bow.
While I enjoyed it, I’m left feeling a little conflicted. There was something missing for me and I think it’s because it wasn’t a typical Katherine Center book and I found myself comparing it to her others. I’d still def recommend reading THE BODYGUARD but know going in that this one is focused on romance and doesn’t have as much emotional depth as her previous work.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and St. Martins Press for the arc in exchange for my honest review!
This book was fabulous and so fun! I'm convinced that Katherine Center has some sort of magical fairy dust that she sprinkles on her books as she uses her amazing writing skills so that they're absolutely captivating. The Bodyguard drew me in from the start and it was an absolute joy to read. I did not want to put it down! I felt attached to the characters from the start and the pacing was perfect. I look forward to ordering this book and thoroughly enjoying reading it several times!
THE BODYGUARD BY Katherine Canter
This novel is unabashedly romantic, laugh-out loud funny and the perfect summer read.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was funny, comical, and not your ordinary romance., Many enjoyable characters. I recommend this book.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced copy for my review.
I got an arc if this story from netgalley. Cute story and i liked most of it however the main character/ narrator kept speaking to the reader. She explained everything to the reader and i found it kinda annoying. And then for an agenxy if professional bodyguardsthey seemed very unprofessional in thier dealings with everything and that kept taking me out of the story.
Katherine Center writes another fun and sweet read!! This book was really good, as all of Katherine's books. I loved the main characters and their little quirks. I thought the plot was clever and it read so much like I was watching a movie. When the synopsis says Jack is full of heart, nothing could be more true. He is. And I adored his character. Katherine Center takes romance and adds a bit more seriousness into it to create a story you're invested in. Another wonderful success.
Sure to be a hit! Katherine Center never disappoints her readers with fast paced books! This one has it all.. a little bit of mystery, suspense, romance, and some twists along the way that keep you turning the pages. Highly entertaining and a super fun read. Be sure to grab this one.. you will absolutely love it!!
