I love Katherine Center; her books always have a way of sucking you in. The writing is smart, and funny, and completely engaging. It was a riveting read. I didn’t want to stop reading because I was so desperate to know what happened next. This book felt like more of a traditional RomCom than any of the others, but it was no less enjoyable. I absolutely ADORED the main characters, and Hannah’s growth arc was absolutely beautiful. I appreciated that this book was not only about love for others, but about self-love. It’s an excellent example of Ru Paul’s famous quote “if you can’t love yourself, then how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” and so many characters come to this realization over the course of the book.
Katherine Center has proven once again that she’s not only capable of crafting strong and incredible main characters, but that she is quite possibly one of the best at writing the shittiest ex boyfriends and Robby absolutely rivals Chip from “How to Walk Away” for top honors.
I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All opinions are my own.
I can't believe i liked this book as much as i did. This book was fun, it made me laugh, and it pulled on my heart strings. I love a good morally grey love interest as much as the next girl, but it was so refreshing to get to know jack. He was just so genuine and good. He and hannah were great together.
This book was amazing! This is my first time reading Katherine Center and believe me I’m definitely gonna read more from her!
Right away I was captivated by the story and especially the heroine, Hannah. She loses her mom and gets dumped closed to the same time. When she has to protect the famous actor Jack Stapleton I was so intrigued what would happen next! Their chemistry from the beginning was off the hook starting when Jack thought Hannah was the cleaning lady. I cracked up!
It was sweet reading how they both open up to each other after being so closed off to everyone else in their lives. They both have struggles and both of them help the other overcoming those fears.
This is a closed door romance but there are some swoony kisses!

Hannah Brooks is an Executive Protection Agent, aka bodyguard. She is 5’5” and not what people’s stereotype of a bodyguard is, which is what makes her so effective. Her mother has just died and her boyfriend dumped her. She wants to work, but her boss wants her to take time off. When she constantly hounds him for work, he assigns her to Jack Stapleton, Hollywood's reclusive heart throb. Her cover is to be Jack's girlfriend. Jack is in town to support his mother who is undergoing cancer surgery. The problem is that he has a stalker, so Hannah has to stay with him, including at the family ranch for the week leading up to Thanksgiving. As they spend more time together they share secrets, past situations and present problems. As they begin to develop feelings toward one another, the lines between friendship and protective detail become blurred.
I really loved the main characters in this story. Both Hannah and Jake had been hurt and had issues they were dealing with that kept them from being real with other people. As we get to know them, I wanted them to get their happy endings. His family had issues, but they were realistic and although I wanted the brothers to reconcile, I wanted them to work it out honestly, not because their parents wanted them to. Most of the people Hannah worked with were not likable. Her boss only wanted his business to make money and be successful at the expense of his employees, and I don't want to start on her ex-boyfriend and so-called best friend. I love the fake-dating trope (and the bonus one-bed trope), and I really enjoyed the twist of the female bodyguard. Katherine Center did the down-to-earth actor perfectly and the scene where his actress "girlfriend" shows up was so over the top, I had to laugh. What I loved about this book was the aspect of Hannah's emotional self-discovery. Hannah had so much baggage to deal with that it was great to see her learn to love herself as she is. There was humor, sadness, forgiveness and some heartwarming scenes that had me loving this story. Move over Kevin Costner, there is a new Bodyguard and I would love to see this done as a movie.
I really enjoyed this improbable but sweet romance between a Hollywood actor and his bodyguard. After dealing with the death of her mother and a breakup with her boyfriend, Hannah Brooks throws herself into her work as a bodyguard for a private agency. Her skills are highly in demand and she talks about being professional and tough. However she is put into a situation where the only way to guard her client is to pretend to be his girlfriend.
The author did a nice job of taking this familiar trope and creating several unexpected twists that make their romance more believable and added elements of realistic secondary characters that you root for in addition to the main characters. I liked that each of the characters was allowed to grow and show more than one dimension.
Overall this was a fun, fast read!
There are not enough good things I can say about Katherine Center’s writing. Her books make my heart happy and The Bodyguard just might be my favorite to date. The characters were deeply complex and undeniably lovable. Hannah is an absolute badass and she and Jack both break stereotypes around their perceived personas. The storyline was perfectly paced between character building and excitement. There isn’t a single thing I didn’t love about this book and When it is officially released in July I will 100% be adding a hard copy to my shelf.
This is my third Katherine Center book and it did not disappoint. I read it in a day. I love reading romances, but like them more when there is a dash of a more serious topic, which The Bodyguard has (sick parent, hidden family secrets, stalkers). Something that Katherine Center's books do that I don't see other authors doing is centering the main character's identify around their job and how it influences how they make choices and interact with other people. Personally, I like this and think that it is realistic.
I enjoyed reading about Hannah and Jack's relationship, and Hannah finding family within Jack's family. I thought the plot moved well. I thought some of the things Robby and Taylor said to Hannah were at time over the top mean or ridiculous, and felt like that that side story could have been less clunky. I understood that the point was to drive home the 'Hannah believes she's unlovable' theme, but I think it could have been tamped down.
Overall, I would recommend The Bodyguard. Also, I love the cover.
This book was fantastic! Such a unique take on the bodyguard trope and I loved every part of it! The characters were so entertaining and lovable. I will definitely be recommending this book to others when it releases!
4.5 A celebrity and a female bodyguard. Sold. I knew I had to read this book. I almost finished it in one sitting. It was so good that I didn't want to put it down. It was such a great rom-com. Warning, it does deal with some heavy subjects. It still manages to feel like a light read to me but I wanted to mention that. I loved the characters. I loved the twists. It kept me entertained from start to finish.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to St. Martins Press for providing me this arc via Netgalley!
Wow, first of all, thank you Katherine Center for getting me out of one of the biggest reading slumps in my life. I have not read a book in over half a year, but yesterday during a flight I remembered I had this one to review. Thanks to it, the day went by so smoothly.
I have read two other books by the same author, and have thouroghly enjoyed them, but this one takes the win. The writing is witty and funny, the plot is original and the characters are amazing. This just became one of my favorite contemporary romances ever.
Drop what you're doing, and read it - you will NOT regret it.
Another great Katherine Center book!
Not sure if I'm getting used to her style, or if she took a slightly different approach with this one, but I didn't find the main character quite as frustratingly naive as I have the protagonists of past KC books.
Hannah is an Executive Protection Agent who just lost her mother and was dumped by her boyfriend within a (very) short amount of time. After some mandatory downtime, she is finally allowed to join the team on a new assignment. Only, instead of escaping to an exotic locale, she is assigned to protect Hollywood A-lister Jack Stapleton only a short drive away from Houston.
Hannah is all business, but Jack's easy-going demeanor soon breaks through her shell. She tries hard not to fall for him, but it isn't easy. Is he actually into her, or is he just that good of an actor? Before she can figure it out for sure, Jack's stalker amps up the danger level, and Hannah is pulled from the assignment.
Excellent setting, good pacing, snappy dialogue, and, of course, a perfect HEA ending. Definitely recommended to readers who enjoy any/all of those elements.
A cute and warm romcom. Definitely for those who are fans of lighthearted romance. This occasionally gave off immature vibes. Overall, I could see this on screen for Netflix.
“you don’t have to be perfect to be lovable”
This is my first Read by Katherine Center and I’m now an official fan and will be checking out all her books. I loved her writing and the way she developed her characters.
Hannah and Jacks relationship throughout the book kept me wanting more. I enjoy a book that when it’s put down you keep thinking about what’s going to happen next, where is this going? And did I predict the twists? This book had it all for me.
I really found all the topics addressed in the book as heavy as they can be to be light hearted and relatable.
Hannah is now one my top favorite female characters in a book. She was relatable while dealing with her own struggles.
Can’t wait for more by this author
I was very excited to receive an ARC copy of The Bodyguard from NetGalley. This is my fifth book that I have read by Katherine Center and I am a huge fan. I really liked that Hannah was an average girl, doing an not so average job by being a bodyguard for a big time celebrity. It was an enjoyable romcom and Katherine Center hits the mark again. This would be a great book to read at the beach or over the summer. It comes out in July.
Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book. However, I just didn’t love this story. I’ve read most all of her books and loved them all but this one just seemed too juvenile to me.
I will read anything that Katerine Center writes! This newest release did not disappoint and I stayed up way too late finishing it (which is always a sign of a great book, in my opinion)! I can't recommend it enough.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved it! And I'm now totally certain I'll read anything Katherine Center writes.
Thanks to the wonderful folks at NetGalley for a chance to read this book early. It's a gem!
This is definitely going in my favorite romance books of all time. That might sound excessive but I adored this novel. I read it in one day and that never happens for me.
To start off I loved the whole aspect of “The Bodyguard”. I’ve always wanted a bodyguard novel that wasn’t overly sexual and less wattpad style. I finally got what I was looking for. We really got to see the characters become emotionally connected and wasn’t over saturated by their sexual connection.
I really enjoyed both the main characters. It made me so happy to see Jack bring out the sunshine in Hannah and for her to bring out the giggles in Jack. I can’t wait to grab a physical copy on release day!!
I found The Bodyguard hard to relate too, which made it less fun to read. Some of the characters were great (her boss Glen, coworkers Doghouse and Kelly, Jack) but Robby and Taylor suck (especially Robby), and Hannah is confusing! She's a by-the-book professional one second, but quitting spontaneously over petty drama the next. It doesn't track... If you ignore that, and get a few chapters in, the plot makes up for the confusing main character and horrible side-characters, slightly. A fun trope, and a mix of action into a romantic comedy. Overall I enjoyed it, but it was definitely confusing.
The author does a great job of writing books that are laugh out loud funny. However they are also very emotional and so heartwarming.I highly recommend the Bodyguard! You will not be disappointed.
Read and loved all of Katherine Centers books.
