Story of a female bodyguard tasked with being a fake girlfriend for hollywood star in order to keep his security team undercover. It was a little hokey and kind of predictable, but it was still sweet and kept me reading. Definitely G rated romance. The cover is gorgeous!
A Hollywood hunk and a regular yet kick-ass security guard form a pretend relationship in order to keep him safe---the premise of Katherine Center's newest novel is just as much fun as it sounds. As always, Center creates a world with characters you can't help but love (or despise), and turning to the last page was bittersweet. Center is one of my favorite authors for a reason.
This was a truly fun read. Hannah is an executive protection agent. In other words, she’s a bodyguard. It is what she does, who she is and she loves her job except for her twisted boss who is a huge ass, her ex, a co-worker who is narcissistic putz and her ex-bff who is now sleeping with said ex. All she wants is the next job far far away from them all and instead he twisted jerk of a boss thinks it is absolutely hilarious to send the three of them to a job she desperately doesn’t want together. It’s funny, irreverent and ultimately a great learning experience that leads her to find out who she really is, what makes her happy and ultimately to love. A really fun sweet story. I very much look forward to what comes next from this wonderful author.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
Another great read by Katherine Center. I was hooked in the first couple of chapters. Unique storyline. Deep characters. I really enjoyed the female bodyguard element. I was just listening to a podcast about real-life 'Executive Protection Agencies' so it was fun to see it played out in Hannah's story. I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for an enjoyable, rom-com!
Can I just say I love Katherine Center!!
Just finished this book last weekend and it was so fun!
Hannah is the perfect bodyguard. Strong, Fierce, with all the skills. But on the inside, she has had a hard past with some difficult relationships. What better way to get over a bad break up then to be a fake girlfriend and undercover bodyguard to a superstar Jack Stapleton!
Love the banter. The ranch setting was fun and unique. I think seeing Hannah vulnerable was my favorite, watching her navigate this assignment, forcing her to let her guard down. Romance was sweet. Great chemistry and character arcs. Jack is super swoony and I love all the laughter he gives in this book.
I did have a few issues with some plot. Wanted more from the end scene. Could have easily added another romance kiss/make-out. Overall great read. Wish I could have done audio too!
Thank you Net Galley and St. Martin's press for the early copy
I really enjoyed this book! It was lighthearted and sweet and I appreciated the gender reversal of the woman being the bodyguard. It was an interesting peek into celebrity life and the perspective, planning, and psychology that goes into protection detail. Jack and his family are just the sweetest and their story development was heartwarming. Although a few portions of the storyline were a bit predictable to me, there were a few twists I didn’t see coming. Katherine Center does a great job of presenting a captivating scenario that you can feel and become immersed in. She’s become one of my favorite authors! Thank you for the adorable read!
A perfect summer read! For me, I judge a book by how quickly I read (or listen) to it, how sad I am to put it down when life forces me to and how much I'm looking forward to returning to it. I finished this one quickly, and I was looking for ways to carve out time in my busy schedule to return to it. Am I Iooking for a plot that would actually happen in real life? No. I'm looking for fun, emotional and creative escapism, which this book delivered. It had the gender role reversal (female is the bodyguard and male is the asset needing protection), and the larger than life hero, A list Hollywood movie star. Hannah has just lost her mother, with whom she had a complicated relationship with and Jack has been dealing with a family tragedy that some have placed blame squarely on his shoulders. When Jack's sick mother has asked him to come out of his reclusive lifestyle and be with her during treatment, he agrees. But with a stalker threat, Jack can't come out of hiding without some extra protection. That's where Hannah enters. Her unpredictable, quirky nature kept me entertained as I was wondering what off-the-wall thing she was going to do or say next. Jack's supportive, loving parents (even to Hannah) just makes you feel warm and happy inside. It was interesting to learn some of the ins and outs of the bodyguard business, which 90% of it has nothing to do with physical. It was also fun to learn some of the tricks in the acting business. I always enjoy a Katherine Center book and this one was no exception.
Thank you NetGalley for the lovely read.
I didn’t think I was going to enjoy The Bodyguard as much as I did, but I’m really happy to be wrong! The characters were well-written, layered, and interesting, the romance was sweet and genuine, and there was a twist at the end that I almost didn’t see coming, so that was a lovely surprise. If you like tropes like forced proximity and fake dating, then The Bodyguard is definitely for you.
My one, single gripe is a lot of people in Hannah’s life are very insulting to her and it’s hard to read. Robby, Taylor, Glenn, and even Jack has said some pretty cutting things about her appearance and clothing. It’s probably realistic, but it was definitely a bummer to read negative remarks about her appearance when she’s already going through some things.
I’m trying to make this a spoiler-free review, but I need to just say this: the safety pin necklace!
I love anything Katherine Center. Her stories are relatable and her wording is beautiful. Her character development is amazing. Even though it isn’t something I have in my classroom, I encourage my students to read anything that interests them that they can get their hands on. They know she is one of my favorite authors and many have read her books because of that. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
This book is so cute and I loved the characters. If you haven’t read Katherine Center’s novels yet you are really missing out! Please make this one into a movie!!! Thanks Net Galley for the advance read.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is a delightful romcom with fake dating of a famous movie star & sexiest man alive meets badass woman bodyguard
Honestly, you had me at.fake dating: Throw in movie star & a badass executive protection agent woman, I dove in straight away.
Parts of this novel are far-fetched but if you’re looking to get lost in an entertaining story, then that fact doesn’t matter & this book is a perfect fit.
This is a book that made me laugh multiple times, which I always appreciate in a romcom. It also made me feel like i was talking to a friend while reading it. It’s casual, silly, ridiculous, hilarious & heartwarming all in one. The Bodyguard will make you feel like you’ve had a glass of moonshine without taking a sip, just gives the warm & fuzzy feeling in the best way.
Now can someone please make this a movie pretty please??
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center comes out July 19, 2022!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read an arc in exchange for an honest review.
Trigger warnings: This book mentions &/or contains death of a loved one, illness, addiction, car accident, guns, shooting & drowning.
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is a delightful read and as good as all her other books I have read . I particularly liked the main character as a female bodyguard protecting a movie star from a crazy stalker. Her love life has been a mess, like her childhood and as she journeys along in her assignment, she learns a lot about love and how maybe there are people who she can trust and rely on. Friendships are hard work and sometimes can be saved and time to let go. Bravo 👏 Katherine and look forward to reading your next book 📕 and thank you to NetGalley for this early e- book arc.🇨🇦🥰👏🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
💪The Bodyguard 💪by Katherine Center. Pub date: July 19th!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Katherine Center books always help me escape reality. I turn to her stories for true escapism from our troubled world. The Bodyguard made me literally laugh out loud at parts! Especially during the cow scene (IYKYK). This book makes a wonderful beachside or poolside read. Super lighthearted and just all around great book! If you love carefree, laidback reads check this one out. Katherine is definitely now an auto buy author for me. Thank you to @netgalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Bodyguard pulled me in with its good writing and forced proximity romance. It was a true comfort read. The relationship between Hannah and Jack developed slowly over time as they spend more time together. I liked that Hannah turned assumptions on their head as a bada** female bodyguard. My one critique is that both characters exhibited some immaturity at times and that the ending was a little too neatly tied up for my taste. Overall, though, a great read and I'll be looking into this author's backlog for other titles to read!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for access to an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This ARC showed up one morning in my inbox and I immediately started reading it. Katherine Center is one of my favorite contemporary authors and I devour her books! Ever since reading How To Walk Away when it was a Book of the Month pick I have been hooked. This book follows Hannah who is going through a traumatic time and gets assigned a job guarding a famous Actor Jack Stapleton who has not been seen in public in about 2 years. At first Jack doesn't believe he needs a bodyguard or that small 5 foot Hannah can do any guarding of a man his size. Both get proven wrong and Jack and Hannah end up spending lots of time together on his parents farm pretending to be a couple. Yup! You heard right, this is a fake dating only one bed trope book!! While I am not usually a fan of fake dating this one was so charming and with all of Katherine's perfect writing. I feel like this book is more romance centered than some of her other books but it still had great character growth for both Hannah and Jack as they were both struggling with hard topics in their lives. I would check content warnings for this book as there are many talks on death and cancer as well as a few other topics. Thank you so much St. Martin's Press for my #gifted copy of this book for review. If you are fan of her previous works than I recommend picking this one up as well when it comes out July 19th.
I am a huge Katherine Center fan. That’s why I went into this book with such high hopes. I’m sad to say that it fell a little flat for me. It wasn’t quite as deep as her past work and I didn’t feel as connected to the characters. I’m still a huge fan and will buy whatever she writes next.
I love all of Katherine Center's books, I think I've read them all. This was no different. A female bodyguard with a hot actor? Sign me up. The background of all the characters is interesting, funny and fun.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This book is a pure delight. While the premise is typical rom-com fare, the way it is carried out is anything but typical. Sure, we have the self-deprecating female protagonist who fails to believe love exists or at least, that it can happen to her. From there, we meet so many wonderfully quirky characters, and some real jerks, but all of them elicited strong opinions from me. I ripped through this book because the journey to the end was an absolute romp, magically engineered by the author. I could not love this more! Bravo.
Thank you St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this fabulous book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved it!! I laughed. I cried. I laughed some more. I was at the edge of my seat. It has been a while since I’ve read a book that I haven’t been able to put down. I spent most of the day in my husbands recliner, reading.
I started this book a wee bit rockily because I wasn’t a fan of the writing style for a while, something just annoyed me, but then it some how became very very charming to me. I loved Hannah as a narrator and as the main protagonist of this book. She seemed so real to me and her struggle with self confidence and self identity really resonated with me. Jack was great. For once in my life I didn’t read about a male love interest and think wtf is this man doing. I adored Jacks family and how they acted towards Hannah throughout the entire book. I loved this book and could read it again and again.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me an eARC of this book in exchange for a honest review
