This was a sweet book about a woman in her late 40s moving to France to start over. I thought there would be more of a climax to the story, but it felt more like small rolling hills. Thank you for letting me read an advanced copy!

This book was a slow starter, but ended up being pretty good. Lucy has a lot of obstacles to overcome and has to deal with several things.

I wanted to like this soooo badly. Unfortunately, this book was formulaic and overall a bit boring. Admittedly romance novels are often a bit of both, but something about this just didn't work. This being a very quick read is one of it's primary saving graces, as I didn't have to waste a ton of time with it.

All of these opinions are my own. I honestly wish I was Lucy’s niece the slow burn romance is definitely there for anyone who loves these books. Such a unique setting and appeals to any diyer or anyone picking up the pieces of their life again. I truly enjoyed this gem and would highly recommend for a happy read.

I loved the relationship she had with Bing and how it was a slow burn, full of yearning that was absolutely delicious.

For me, this felt less like a romance book and more like a work of fiction that had a slice of romance in it. It was charming and interesting but It wasn’t overwhelming me with romantic feelings and a rush of seeing two people fall in love. (Something that I look for in romance)

That’s not to say that Lucy and Bing aren’t wonderful, they are. Very much so. Just know that this is a very very slow burn.

So it gets three stars from me. However, I do highly encourage this book to people who want to read a story about renewal and courage. The fact that Lucy had to start all over in her late forties is a story we don’t often have access to. I would also encourage this book to readers who love a motley crew of characters. There are so many side characters and each one was distinctive and interesting. Some even competing to be the coveted scene stealers.

Overall, this was a charming tale, with a hopeful and happy ending, but it’s less about falling in love and more about the main leading lady trusting herself to begin and again and to clutch at the happiness she deserves.

I requested this book on NetGalley as a recommendation from a friend. She thought the book was really sweet, but unfortunately it just wasn’t for me.

The book was a quick read and had all of the right elements to make a good book, I just could not get into it. It felt like there were too many moving pieces that just came into play for what seemed like a moment to serve what the author thought was needed. I would have liked to see fewer side story arcs that were more in depth.

I will say Lucy gave me a cute Emily in Paris vibe at first. But over the course of the book, that faded for me.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I wanted to like this book from the description, however, I found myself somewhat bored throughout and really pushed myself to finish it. While the premise was intriguing, the storytelling fell flat. At times, there was way too much detail about the hotel in general, and at others, the plot seemed incredibly rushed. I would hardly call this a romantic comedy or a romance at all. It does prove to be a decent story on starting over and finding oneself after tough times.

This book was a sweet, quick read, but I really enjoyed it for the setting and the fun side characters in the story. The author did a great job painting the picture of the French town and hotel and all the fun people that live there. It was pretty predictable but i enjoyed it.

Lucy moves to France and takes a job as a manager of an up-and-coming hotel, looking for a fresh start. There, she becomes acquainted with the various long-term tenants, the hotel's owner, and those in the surrounding community. The hotel isn't exactly what she pictured when she accepted the position... at all... but she makes the most of it and finds herself along the way (along with some loooove).

SUCH a fun and warm read! I loved every moment. The community at the hotel seems so familial and descriptions were absolutely sweet. I don't have enough flattering words to say except that this book was everything I was looking for -- lighthearted and romantic, while romanticizing the type of European life that I daydream about.

This was such a sweet novel! Written by Dee Ernst, we follow Lucy as she escapes to Rennes, France for a new job. Back in New York, she was the general manager of a super successful hotel, but after the owner (and her boyfriend) embezzled millions of dollars and ran away with it all, Lucy has had two years of living at her parents home, FBI investigations, and prison looming.

Finally, her name has been cleared and she’s in France as the new manager of the Hotel Paradis. Little does she know, it’s not all telling people what to do, and a lot more of doing all the repairs that this 18th century chateau, that hasn’t been a working hotel since before the war, herself.

Luckily, she has the help of the owner and the various tenants that have apartments in the stable block of the hotel to help. And with them, and the handsome artist that lives in the attic, she has time to heal and rebuild the confidence she lost when she was embroiled in scandal.

The characters are the best part of this book. From the elderly gardener Karl to the annoyingly charming artist Bing to even the ghost who haunts the courtyard, the characters and their relationships and love for one another is what makes this book.

Read if you like:

• cats named Napoléon Bonaparte

With all that said, I wouldn't call it a romance novel.

I expected this book to be a light hearted contemporary romance judging from the cover. It was so much more! When trusting the wrong man results in a broken heart, loss of all her money, loss of her job and being an FBI suspect, Lucia's chances are not good. When she can't find employment anywhere else, she takes the chance when offered a general manager position in a historic hotel in France. The characters are multifaceted and the relationships build slowly. It was so easy to get drawn into that world and I felt like I was a guest watching the drama unfold. I loved, loved, loved this book!

What a fantastic and charming book! Lucy is someone who spent the majority of her career invested in the Felding Hotel, falling in love with the owner and finding herself in the middle of scandal after he leaves, taking all the money with him. Lucy is forced to start again, from scratch. The only person that would take her was a small hotel in France that hasn’t been open in nearly a century.

Lucy finds herself well in over her head, but the charming people in Rennes, France encourage her to stay and turn this quaint hotel into a destination attracting people from all over the world.

Such a quaint and cute story. The characters, storyline and all the charming French details made this story such a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed!

Okay! I needed this book in my life! When you hit forties at some days in your life you feel like the air you breath sucks out your body ! At those depressing, tired and bleak times, reading something feel good and inspirational is a natural effect like deploying a lifebuoy ring to survive!

Lucia Gianatti who needs a fresh start at the age 49, moneyless and jobless, accepting a challenging mission to turn a rundown hotel into bustling touristic attraction is my kind of heroine!

Once upon a time she was running one of the most upscale and gorgeous hotels of Big Apple! But you know the rule: you shouldn’t mix business with pleasure! She actually paid too much for this mistake!

Now she’s in France! Hurray! But her impossible task to work on that dilapidated place might be struggling when she also deals with personal issues like finding her place in the universe!

It was relaxing reading! I loved the romantic parts! I loved encouraging tone the author used to inspire the readers how they should see the world as their oyster. Everything is possible and you just have to chase your dreams at any age because life is still full of possibilities!

Well, I needed this book! I’m so happy I read it at the right time!

Lucy’s life broke apart when her ex-boyfriend left town with millions of dollars he embezzled. Lucy is a persona non-grata in her career and so when she is offered a job in France she takes it. This book features a strong found-family, what it’s like to work in France, and making the impossible possible. There is a romance subplot in the story, but the main plot is Lucy reinventing herself.

Lucy Checks In was delightful. The book introduces the reader to the world of hotel management and to Lucy, who has had a bit of a set back after falling for her boss only to get burned in the end. All is not lost however as she accepts a new position at a once forgotten hotel in France.
Lucy must let go of disappointment, learn to trust again, and find her true self in a new country. We are also introduced to a family that is not perfect, and the author dosen't attempt to make it all better in the end. Sometimes in life people don't change, and finding your happiness (even if it takes you far away) can be life changing. The descriptions of her new home, the cafes, food, and people will transport you to this historic French city.

Lucy Checks In wins the award for ARC that took me by surprise in the best way. Lucy moves to a small town in France after being blacklisted from the hotel industry in the US because her ex boyfriend took everyone for their money and their trust. In France, Lucy is charmed, and annoyed, by this new group of people she was roped into staying with at a run down hotel. Immediately, I was annoyed with Lucy for being so materialistic and clueless, but she quickly grew on me as she developed throughout the novel. I am a sucker for a Schitt’s Creek-esque riches to rags story and this book delivered. I loved the found family so much and it was wonderful to see such an eclectic one varying in ages, race, and culture. My one issue was that this is heavily marketed as a romance and, although there is a beautiful romance storyline, it is not the central plot and if you go into thinking it will be a quick lighthearted romance, you will be in for a surprise (granted the growth and atmosphere definitely make up for it). I highly recommend to anyone looking for a coming of age, later in life story or fans of Moira Rose. It was so well told, the atmosphere was incredible, and the prose was beautiful. I felt like I was immersed into this small town for the very first page.

I absolutely loved the is title and am so excited to acquire it for the branch. It has it all self discovery, romance, and is beautifully written. One of my most favorite fiction reads in quite some time. I know others will love it too! Very excited to ass this to our women’s fiction.

It was cute but did not really hold my attention it was too chick lit for me.
