I first heard of Dahlia from the book blogger space, so it's awesome to see her book getting published! This was such a great read and exactly what I'd expect from her. This is a f/f coming of age love story with an unlikely quarterback and a cheerleader, which puts an interesting spin on an age old trope.
A very cute sapphic YA romance from Dahlia Adler. I loved that it was about a female football player! If there had been a book like this when I was in high school, I wouldn't have known what to do with myself. I would have just been over the moon thrilled. And I'm thrilled for all the queer kids who get to read Adler's books now. She is a great voice in YA and a much needed one, too.
I'm kind of tired of reading books disguised as "cute high-school romance" when all it's really about is unchecked bigotry. If most of the football and cheerleading team are so misogynistic and homophobic, how did a girl get to be the quarterback, when everyone knows she's going to be bullied and they do nothing about it.
LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS BOOK. I cannot say it enough, such a cute and fun read. You cannot go wrong with Dahlia Adler.
A delightful queer romance from one of the best authors in the genre. Adler shows very well that she knows and respects her audience, and the result is funny, smart, and overall excellent.
I loved this book! It's well-written, enjoyable, and a great read. Dahlia Adler did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, and makes you not want to put it down until you're finished! I would highly recommend it!
I requested this book after enjoying Cool for the Summer. This one ended up being a little heavier than I expected, but that made me enjoy it all the more. I enjoyed the romance and the deep subjects touched upon. I always really appreciate it when an author finds a way to slip in the deep stuff in a way that still keeps the story flowing. I gave this one 3.5 stars.
I started this hoping for a cute, quick read romcom, and that was exactly what I got
While I do not care about sports at all (and did not understand any of the American football terms) that didn't pull my focus away from the story too much as the core of the plot was about the high school politics and the romance rather than the game itself
This is a really quick read, I absolutely flew through it and was a great first step into the trope of sports romances - and can we take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover??
Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars
Overall a cute sapphic high school romance. There are some trigger warnings for homophobia and misogyny but nothing graphic. I don't necessarily mind that kind of discussion, although I do tend to lean more towards "yay queer love that let's me have a fantasy of no lesbophobia, etc.," but not every book is going to be like that for sure. I like the writing style and characters. A few parts did drag a bit, but nothing egregious.
4.75 stars
What a unique premise! And I loved the way the author was inspired by a photo she saw of two girls, one in a football uniform, and the other cheerleader. This book was really good, I love the characters in the story and how they both grew, but I wish there was a little bit less homophobia. That made it a difficult read so even though I’m rounding up my review to five stars, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to everyone.
This was such a fun, romantic, joyful, REAL queer YA from Adler—I love her characters and voice, and this was such a lovely, sports-focused addition to her oeuvre.
I'm a huge Dahlia Adler fan & this book definitely delivers. A swoony romance set on the football field, which explores themes of acceptance, authenticity and standing up for what is right. There is such an authentic and lovable component to each of the characters, as well as strong chemistry. Again, huge fan of Adler and highly recommend this story.
Sincere thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press, & Wednesday Books for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I think this is a case where this book is YA and I'm an adult and am not the target audience for the book. I think teens would really like this one, as it was cute and had a promising premise!
A great book. I didn't finish it, but that's nothing on the book, and everything on me. I think I was too depressed for a book that is so sad. I expected something light and breezy, but the MC is going through a lot. Between bullying and loneliness and being in the closet, it was just a rough read for me, but again, not the book's fault.
I think plenty of people love it, and rightly so.
This was a perfectly fine book. I’m struggling to rate it, but only because it’s not really my style.
I am feeling very torn about "Home Field Advantage:". On one hand, I was interested in the story and characters in it. On the other hand, the ending was rushed and I didn't truly feel any closure for any of the events. I wish some of the characters had more depth. I am rounding up from a 3.5 star rating because I did finish the rest of it in one sitting and stayed up late to finish it. I was invested in the story and characters but felt like something was missing.
*Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review this title. My opinions are my own*
Adler's a talented writer, but this book just wasn't for me. The voice feels perfect for the audience, but I've aged out of it.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE is a cute YA LGBTQIA+ rom-com. Amber and Jack were cute, and everyone should have a friend like Miguel. It was a fun read.
Listen. I'm going to be very honest. I am not a sports girl. I didn't play them. I don't watch them. I don't really like reading about them. But damn if Dahlia Adler didn't make me care. Maybe not about sports, but definitely about these kids. This was such a warm, heartfelt read with very genuine stakes that made me worried for these characters. This was my first read from Adler, but it certainly won't be my last.
CW: homophobia, bribing, threats of forced outing, threats of assault, teen pregnancy, pregnancy loss, drunk driving car accident leading to death before the story begins
I know I'm late in submitting this review through NetGalley, but I stand by my initial review on Goodreads: There was SO much time spent laughing and yelling “AWW” while reading this book. So cute. So funny. So very worth the read. This book is the book that made me fall in love with Dahlia Adler. The complexity of her characters, the diversity involved, but also the nuance she uses to portray the various aspects of sexuality and gender identity. Bonus points for characters with ketchup obsessions. Honestly though, I couldn't recommend this enough for readers who are new to sapphic YA or veterans like me who have read everything but felt like this was a first. I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars, with a splotch of ketchup on the side.
