This was a great first volume to this story. We follow Suri as she lives/works at a traveling camp. She likes to tell scary stories to the kids of the camp and wants to be a monster tamer one day. Once day, a wagon shows up with a strange tin man and a monster inside. Suri comes afoul of a visitor to the camp and chaos ensues. The monster escapes and Suri is chased out of the camp. You'll have to read for yourself and find out how the story ends! I'm very excited to read the next volume to find out what happens.

Suri loves monsters. In the merchant camp, she earns money telling wonderful stories she read in books. She knows everything about the monsters' lores and legends, or so she thinks. But then, a mysterious wagon joins Suri’s camp, holding a giant and mysterious creature.

Suri is an adorable protagonist. Orphant, she follows the members of a merchant camp that she considers as her family. As the leader seems to not like her, she hides frequently during the day, but receives the help of all the members of the community. Suri is fascinated by monsters and her dream is to become a monster tamer. She is curious and courageous, not hesitating to befriend the creature that hides in the mysterious wagon.

Cat's Cradle: The Golden Twine is an interesting graphic novel full of intriguing elements. I really enjoyed the Fantasy/Fairytale atmosphere of the story. It is a wonderful adventure full of incredible creatures, there is even a Monster Bestiary at the end describing all the monsters of the story. If you love strong heroines, magic and mystery and beautiful artwork, go for it ! I cannot wait to read the next book.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this Advanced Reader’s Copy of “Cat’s Cradle”! “Cat’s Cradle” by Jo Rioux was such a wholesome, fun read! We are introduced to a young orphan, Suri, who travels with a caravan and dreams of monster taming. We see Suri go through many trials during this book, including but not limited to the abandonment of her make-shift family, kidnapping, and many emotional turmoils. The art in this middle-grade graphic novel is so comforting and nostalgic. If you love the “Ren Fair vibe”, you would definitely enjoy “Cat’s Cradle”! Suri is the definition of a girl-boss and I can’t wait to see more of her in the next book!

An intense fantasy-adventure graphic novel! It is reminiscent of fairy tales, filled with monsters, magic, and a monster hunter. But on top of all of that it has a bold protagonist who you’ll root for and love and cute cats and dogs. Cannot wait for the second book.

This is a quick, fun start to a new adventure series. Suri is a monster hunter, or at least an aspiring one. She tags along with a travelling market, somewhat unwanted, where she tells tales of monster hunting. She eventually starts an adventure with a "monster," really an over sized dog and an imp to the land of the giants. There are, however, others on her tail in search of the magic twine she unintentionally stole. It's a fun, magical adventure and I look forward to reading the next week. Great for fans of fantasy and adventure graphic novels.

A really captivating first volume! The world-building, albeit short, was intriguing, the characters having such fun dynamics it reminded me of fantasy cartoons when I was younger. The character designs and overall artstyle is such a delight, and I like how each panel flows into one another, making each scene mold together.

This book is just so much darn fun. I absolutely loved Suri as a character and thought she made a great protagonist. All of the characters (especially Byron!!) were so sweet and lovable. The cute, expressive art style only added to this. I would honestly buy a poster of some of the frames of this graphic novel, they were so beautiful. Memorable monsters and an evocative market setting only added to the fun. It reminded me of a more lighthearted version of Over The Garden Wall. I think any kid looking for a rollicking adventure will love this book. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for review.

This was such a fun read! The monsters, world building and character developement were amazing. I absolutely flew through this book and can't wait for the next book! Thank you so much for giving me the honor of reading this book.

This book was so fun! I absolutely loved the characters, the world-building, the magic. I wanted more immediately! I almost wish this was longer and fleshed out the characters a bit more, or gave a bit of background story. However, despite that, I look forward to the next installment!

Jo Rioux’s art is captivating and I was intrigued by the world of caitsith and monsters that she introduces. This book is only the first in a series so naturally it ends without any resolution, but I still found it a bit too brief to be fully satisfying. It feels like the book ends just as the story is getting started. That said, I will be picking up the second book to see how this series develops.

Review to come June 7th on blog/goodreads.

I received this book from the publisher/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

This is one of my most OMG NEED to have graphic novels of 2022, so I thought I would just put in a shot when I saw it coming on Netgalley. I knew there would be little chance to get it because of the publisher (nothing against the publisher, but it does feel a tad weird that I always keep being rejected for their books despite reading GNs/Comics/Manga quite a bit and reviewing them on my blog). Imagine my delight when I got the mail that I was accepted. I had to ask my husband to pinch me because I just couldn't believe it. Haha.

I just loved how the book started! A boy on a farm. A chicken coop unlocked. And then a monster in the coop! This really set the tone for me (plus, I had a laugh at the expressions on the cat). I was even more hyped to really get this started!

I instantly took a liking to Suri! She was a fun, head-strong character, and I loved how dedicated she is to learning all there is about monsters (she even knew more than some of the monster tamers she met) and love her stories! She knows a lot of them and they are all exciting (on that note, can we please get a whole graphic novel with just the stories from this world? Please?), I was so hoping that we would get more.

Loved that even she could earn her money by doing something she loves doing, telling stories about monsters, about fantastical beings that lurk the earth. I was very eager for her to tell stories, I just love spooky stories/stories with monsters and magic. Though, we find out a bit more about her being at the camp and I was saddened to learn that she wasn't actually wanted there, well not by the boss. The other peeps? They didn't mind her. We learn a bit more on why the boss is acting like this... and I kind of could understand his side as well. Everyone needs to do their bits when they are old enough, and she would rather go on adventures. Story-telling is kind of a job, but if other peeps also need help, then maybe she should also help there.

Things really picked up around 60-70 pages, I was already OK with the story so far, but then things got up nodge and I was totally invested! I needed to know what was going on with the blonde guy (I had my suspicions given how he reacted earlier), with that monster in the cage, and if Suri would be fine! Also that twine, what is up with it! I couldn't stop reading. I just flew! I did think it was funny that Suri, despite all her knowledge, didn't get what they were until they transformed. XD

Byron was just the cutest and I wanted to reach in and pet him! Haha.

OH MY GOSH! That ending! Love it! I already had a suspicion that this would be the first book, but I am excited to see that confirmed! I cannot wait for the next book because things are definitely going to get heated and maybe a tad scary! Now I just got to wait patiently... mm, nope.

The art was really beautiful, I so so love the style of it and how well it fitted with the story. It made it even more magical~

All in all, HYPE! This was tons of fun! I would recommend it to all who love mystery, adventure, monsters, fantasy, and a kick-ass heroine~

This was such a fun adventure graphic novel full of fun characters, stunning artwork and lots of monsters!!
A perfect start to the trilogy and I can’t wait to continue on with future volumes. I also loved getting a peek into Siri’s monster journal at the end.

Perfect for fans of Wynd: Flight of the Prince & Hooky.

This beautifully illustrated graphic novel follows the monster-obsessed orphan Suri, as she tries to become a monster hunter. Her persistence pays off when the caravan she is sneakily travelling with gains a mysterious wagon with something very large and very noisy. Meanwhile, she ends up accidentally stealing a ball of twine from a stranger that leads to unforeseen consequences. She sets off on an adventure with an imp and the secret creature in the wagon, all the while pursued by a dangerous family who want their twine and a prince hunting the mysterious creature.
Suri is a main character that you can't help but to root for. Her excitement about monsters and her determination shines clearly throughout the story. This book has all of the best fantasy elements- creative and detailed monsters, world lore and history, and hints of magic. I absolutely loved this story, though I do wish it was longer. It's clearly the set up to a longer story and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Suri.

Thank you to Netgalley for this title in exchange for an honest review.

This graphic novel follows a girl named Suri, who wants to be a monster tamer.

This was a fun middle grade fantasy, and I really enjoyed Suri as a character. It’s fast paced and short - I read it in under half an hour. It has colorful art and some unique monsters (maybe not totally unique, but I’ve never heard of Caitsiths before). I’m glad this is going to be a series - I wanted even more when I finished reading!

It is pretty short and I wish it was longer, but I think it will be especially good for kids who have a shorter attention span/difficulty focusing on longer books,

rating: 3.5/5

What drew me to this graphic novel was the art–the colors, the facial expressions, the scene settings, and the movement between each panel was so immersive and set the perfect magical mood. If you enjoyed Gravity Falls, you're going to enjoy this quirky spooky monster chasing story.

I am such a fan of Jo Rioux after reading Daughters of Ys. The artwork is vibrant and unique, and the stories are always so intriguing! I look forward to the next installment!

Cute older grade school to middle school aimed fantasy. The girl at the center of the story is a plucky orphan and engaging as a heroine. The world is interesting and this is pretty obviously a set up for a longer story which I’d happily read, The biggest weakness of the book is it is quite short and a set up for a series but the character is charming enough that’s forgivable because a reader would want to see more of her.

I liked a lot about this title. I found the story setup to be interesting and the art charming. My only real drawback was the story in this volume just kind of stops right as it's picking up again, Yes I do want to read the next volume, thanks. Younger readers should have a lot to like here!
