What a wonderful series this was!

Having read this back to back with the first book in the series was a treat. I enjoyed the mystery, sibling rivalry, mean girls and the chase of Mr. Day! Throw in some pirates and I was fully immersed. I have to admit I put some music on during the reading of this book. Disney’s Audioscapes: Pirates of the Caribbean!

I am hoping to hear if there will be more books in this series. I hope so!

I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.

I don’t think I have read anything by Grace before and I have no idea why. I LOVED this book. I even thought about it when I wasn’t reading it.

Flora was funny. She kept getting herself in situations and I even chuckled a few times because of her circumstances. But she would get back up and keep moving forward.

Teddy was frustrating because he kept sending Flore mixed signals and that messed everything up.

There was also a mystery going on as I wondered what Mr. Grayson was up to.

If you like historical romance I am sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Her Darling Mr. Day is an excellent story that is very sweet and clean. Poor Flora is crazy about her friend Teddy, but since he is recovering from a second rejection from the ladies, he is hesitant to see anybody, although many young ladies are chasing after him. He notices how his dear friend Flora is always there for him no matter what. Flora is quite tired o being just a friend, and longs for more from him. As soon as she wins him over, her father promises her to his brother, who hasn't really shown her much attention at all. She runs off, her group is attacked by river pirates, and later she is followed to be kidnapped. Great fun to read!

Her Darling Mr. Day was such a fun continuation of the American Royalty series! I enjoyed spending more time with Theodore and getting to know Flora better. She certainly made for a whimsical heroine with her opera glasses. And, as someone from the South who can't imagine life without air conditioning, the description of the heat (and sweat) of New Orleans definitely rang true.
I also appreciated the solid spiritual thread, and the excitement added by the bits of suspense. If you’re looking for a fun historical romance full of Socialites and sprinkled with mystery, this one's for you!

Though Flora's mother trained all her daughters in the art of husband hunting, Flora hasn't been that interested until Teddy Day became a bachelor again after being jilted by Flora's best friend. Now Flora's taking matters into her own hands to catch Teddy's eye and heart. She doesn't realize at the outset that about every woman in New Orleans has her eye on the same prize. I found all the antics of the women to be vastly amusing. I was surprised that Teddy was oblivious to some of it.

Along with the humor, there's some mystery surrounding Flora's father as well as a competition between Teddy and his brother for their company's leadership. It had a lot of action and danger. There were some unique plot twists and ideas. Certain parts reminded me of Pride & Prejudice. I found it thoroughly enjoyable.

While you could read this as a standalone book, it would be richer if you started with book one in the American Royalty series. Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This delightful second book in the American Royalty series is entertaining but will also touch your heart. Flora and Teddy, the wonderful lead characters in this book, are introduced in the first book of the series My Dear Miss Dupré; however, ample background information is provided in Her Darling Mr. Day to make it work well as a stand-alone even though other characters and events from the first book are referenced. Packed with vivid descriptions, this narrative aptly captures the flavor of New Orleans high society in the late 1800s. An action-filled plot replete with family drama and danger, engaging characters, a beautifully crafted setting, enjoyably humorous incidents, sweet friends-to-more romance, and life altering spiritual truths work together to make this an exciting, satisfying read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it for fans of historical romance. I look forward to the next book in the series.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the American Royalty series and believed Willow ended up with the right man for her, I couldn’t feel bad for Theodore (aka Teddy) in the situation.
Therefore, I was thrilled to know he’s one of the leads in Her Darling Mr. Day by Grace Hitchcock.

Friends to more romances are my favorites because there is so much history already between characters, and Hitchcock delves into that with aplomb. Add plenty of other women vying for Teddy’s affections, a few suitors for Flora, a touch of mystery and a fair bit of humor, and readers are in for a real treat when they delve into this Gilded Age historical romance. There’s also some great New Orleans and steamboat history woven into the novel.

If you enjoy Jen Turano’s writing or a good historical romance with some good chuckles, then don’t miss out on this series.

I was delighted to reconnect with the characters from the first book in the series, having said that, I liked Her Darling Mr. Day just a little bit more than I thought possible. I loved Theodore Day and Flora Wingfield; they are both such fun characters. Flora is a rather bold young lady in this Gilded age novel and to get her whole family accompany her to New Orleans to achieve her goal of capturing the heart of Mr. Day was pretty clever, I must admit.

The secondary characters are just as much fun and as interesting as the main characters which added to my enjoyment of this amazing novel. Romance, humor and a bit of mystery made this book a joy to read.

Her Darling Mr. Day
American Royalty #2
By Grace Hitchcock

In My Dear Miss Dupré, Theodore "Theo" Day was jilted at the announcement of his engagement. An engagement that was the media event of the season and had captured the attention of New York society's elite. Hoping to distance himself from the utter embarrassment Theo returns to New Orleans and his family's home to delve into the family business.

Unfortunately, Theo's fame has followed him home making him Lousianna's most sought-after bachelor. Unable to leave his home without being swarmed by the adoring socialites hoping to be Mrs. Theodore Day, Theo is more than a little relieved when Flora Wingfield and her family arrive for the summer. Flora has been one of his closest friends for years and is always ready to offer him encouragement and an understanding ear to listen.

After two failed romances, Theo has no desire for romance at present which is too bad for him as engaging Theo's attention has been Flora's desire for years and she finally sees that her chance has come. But New Orleans society has decided that Flora and her sisters are a threat to them and all the eligible local bachelors.

As Flora tries to show Theo just how much he needs her she finds herself in a whole passel of trouble as a danger from New York has followed them down South. But as the danger draws near and Flora's plans seem to go awry she has to make one final push to get what her heart desires.

Her Darling Mr. Day has it all danger, romance, betrayal, a competition, and family. There are some intense moments as danger draws ever nearer. There are also a few humorous incidents scattered throughout. I love how Theo helps Flora achieve a dream - one that has been ignored and even ridiculed by her father. I also love how Flora's happily ever after is in doubt as outside forces conspire against her. As much as I enjoyed My Dear Miss Dupré I found this book to be an even more enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book if you love American historical fiction. If you haven't read the first book in the series it won't detract from your enjoyment of this book.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

This book was an absolute joy to read! I loved reading Teddy and Flora's story, it has just enough romance and mystery to keep you turning the pages. If you are a fan of well written Historical Romance, you will love this book. I can't say enough good things about this book without letting a spoiler slip out, so I'll just say I loved everything about this book and hated to see it end.

What a fun read!
This is the second book in the American Royalty series, and I highly recommend to read the first book before delving into this one. I haven’t read the first one and it took me a while to get caught up in the story as I was trying to figure out connections from book one. The author does a solid job in connecting readers with characters from the first book; however I was still a bit lost at the beginning of the novel.
Flora Wingfield is in love with her best friend, and the man jilted at the altar from book one, Theodore Day. What was supposed to be an easy husband hunting trip to New Orleans becomes a trip full of unexpected visitors, matchmaking plots, and a family secret that sends Flora running. Pirates, balls, jealousies, and beaus aplenty pepper the pages of this historic romance.
It’s an amusing tale, and fans of Jen Turano books will enjoy The American Royalty series.
Now that I’ve read book two, I’m eager to dive into book one.

What a pleasure to read Her Darling Mr. Day by Grace Hitchcock. The story is the second in the American Royalty series, and we were reconnected with Theodore Day and Flora Wingfield from the first novel. It was delightful to get to know them both better, and watch them figure out their story.

The wonderful setting of New Orleans made this an interesting Gilded age novel. I was fascinated with the world of steamboats on the Mississippi river, and wanted to jump aboard. Enjoyable secondary characters, especially Auntie Violet had me laughing, cringing and sighing towards the end. Reading about the options women had in the 1800’s was a reminder of how many things I take for granted today.

Her Darling Mr. Day includes mystery, intrigue, and a happily ever after. The story’s humor made it fun to read and it was wonderful to get lost in the time period. I highly recommend her Darling Mr. Day.

HER DARLING MR. DAY by Grace Hitchcock

Revew:

I am happy that Flora and Teddy have their own story. They were good friends with Willow in the first book. I didn’t see it coming that Flora would pursue a man to the point of following him from New York to New Orleans.

I enjoyed the descriptions of New Orleans in 1883. It was different from New York, especially the heat. Flora’s whole family went with her. Lots of characters. I had to make sure I knew the names of family members, old and new friends.

This friends-to-more romance was sweet but slow burn. I was really rooting for Teddy. But he was very slow to catch up with Flora. Flora was patient with him but may not be for long. She was busy with balls and parties that attracted a few suitors. She was also preoccupied with the interior designs of the houses. She had some hilarious incidents.

Unlike Willow’s father who trusted her with their business, Mr. Wingfield did everything himself. His actions hurt his daughters. Flora felt like she was part of a business transaction. Her plan to prove her worth seemed futile. It was sad since it’s pretty common during that time.

The faith elements were incorporated through prayers. I like that they call on God for help and guidance.

Despite all the romance, social engagements and family drama, you will also be treated to mystery and suspense. The ride in the steamboat was eventful. I won’t spoil this part. The revelation was unexpected. It was a good read overall.

I am honestly not sure how I feel about this book. I was excited to read it because I heard a lot of good things about the first book, but it had a slow start. However, by the end of the book, I did end up enjoying Her Darling Mr. Day. Her Darling Mr. Day is the first book in Grace Hitchcock’s American Royalty series.
Flora was an interesting character. She was complicated, and at first I found her a bit annoying, but I grew to understand her. She had fallen for Teddy Day long ago, and she was determined to win him over. But when she arrived in New Orleans, she found that she had had to fight for him to see her. Flora seemed immature at first, but I soon came to realize that she was just trying to find her place in this world. Her father hadn't always seen her worth, and she just wanted someone to love her. Flora had to learn that her worth was found in Christ. She had to learn to face her fears and trust God.
I am also not sure how I felt about Teddy. He had been jilted twice but he also did not really appreciate Flora. He was lost in his own issues. He did grow by the end of the book though. He came to see Flora for the kind woman she was. He had a lot to learn, and he had to figure out if love was worth fighting for. He had to learn what it meant to choose Flora.
I liked that Flora and Teddy were friends first. Teddy's brother was not as bad as I thought he might be. I also liked Flora's cousin and some of her sisters, some of them were really immature. I wish that the sisters were closer. I also feel like this book reminded me of a teen TV show with so much drama. I was hoping that it would be different. However all in all, this was a good book. I am kind of looking forward to the next book too.
Her Darling Mr. Day was a good book and I would recommend it to those who enjoy historical reality TVness. It is clean and a little bit Christian.

My interest in this book lay partly in the fact that my family lived in New Orleans for six years when I was a child, and I well remember some of the places mentioned in the story, such as St. Charles Avenue and the lovely homes still located there to this day.

It was a love story and also dealt with families of great wealth and socialite unmarried young women. There was some mystery and threats to some of the characters.

I liked it well enough to finish, but felt it could’ve been shortened by maybe 20%. 3-1/2 stars.

Flora Wingfield’s mother raised her and her four sisters to hunt—for a suitable husband. Flora, the eldest, must use her most skillful powers of persuasion to convince her parents to take the family to New Orleans to stay with their great aunt for the summer. Flora doesn’t want to marry just anyone; she wants to marry her childhood friend Teddy Day.

And the incredibly handsome man has fled to New Orleans to recover from a very public jilting. Flora’s best friend, Willow Dupré, dumped Teddy (at Flora’s urging), to accept the man she really loved. Now Flora has one last chance to show Teddy their friendship can blossom into love to last a lifetime.

Theodore Day might hold the title of most eligible bachelor in New York City, but he’s also the most jilted. Two women have agreed to marry him and then decamped. He decided to spend the summer in New Orleans and escape the socialites who want to become his darling Mrs. Day. Hard work for his father’s luxury steamboat company should fit the bill. If it weren’t for the husband-hunting society ladies in New Orleans who vie for a place at his side.

What a relief when his childhood friend, Flora Wingfield, shows up. With her, he can enjoy an uncomplicated friendship. But when other eligible bachelors (including his older brother) start hanging around, Teddy questions his true emotions.

When Flora’s father announces his four eldest daughters must marry by the end of the summer, the entire family panics. Will Teddy discover his true feelings for Flora before the deadline?

Why I Loved This Book

Hitchcock fills her second installment in the American Royalty series with historical details fans of fiction will love. Although second in a series, readers don’t need to read My Dear Miss Dupré to thoroughly enjoy Her Darling Mr. Day

Flora has a talent for interior design, and a father who believes her highest calling involves marriage and raising children. Readers will relate to Flora’s quest to find a way to combine her passion with the most acceptable vocation of the era—becoming a wife and mother. To realize her dreams requires a different kind of husband—one who appreciates every facet of her nature. Not just her generous dowry.

Fans of Jen Turano and Jocelyn Green will love this book.

A sweet romance with a hint of mystery and suspense. A farce of a Gilded Age novel, with likeable characters that had me inhaling the book in a few hours. Fans of Jen Turano will enjoy this novel.

I love this series! This book was such fun! I enjoyed the characters and the lightness of the plot, while being completely entertained by this charming story. This book has romance, mystery, moments of mishap and charm for days! I would love to see this series as movies because I think they would be so much fun! The writing is perfectly light without crossing over into the over the top kind of historical rom com place. I was rooting for these characters throughout the entire story! Friends to more is a trope that I love and these two friends were great together! I loved the slow discovery of Teddy’s feelings and the mischief that Flora always found herself in trying to hide her attraction to Teddy! This book was so enjoyable and I cannot wait for more in this series!

Her Darling Mr. Day, the second installment of the American Royalty series from Grace Hitchcock, is a delightful romance that is hard to put down.

Flora Wingfield is determined to capture the attention (and heart) of Theodore (Teddy) Day. She has her work cut out for her. Teddy has two failed engagements, so he doesn't trust himself to fall in love again. Plus, his father has created a competition between him and his brother Carlisle for their luxury riverboat business. Whoever makes the most sales by summer's end becomes the next head of the company. So Teddy has no time for women. But somehow, Flora manages to put herself in his path at every turn. And no wonder, since her father is determined to marry her off by summer's end to whoever comes calling.

With her future hanging in the balance, Flora is determined not to let anything stop her from catching Teddy's eye, which, of course, results in a series of misunderstandings, humour and, at times, danger.

I enjoyed this book much more than the first one in the series. I particularly liked the interior design aspects of it. If you enjoy historical romance, you will like this one!
