Her Dying Wish is the tenth book in the Gina Harte Series. This can be a stand alone read. There is enough references to the past that reading all the previous is not a necessity, but the stories are so good, why wouldn't you want to read them all.
The story starts with a tea light in a jar. Then petrol/gas is being poured through a letter box/mailbox. A lighter sets off the flame which will kill a man who is very drunk. Gina Harte and her team will be called out to investigate.
Meanwhile a journalist is harassing Gina about her deceased husband. The family believes Gina did nothing to save him before he died. He is calling and sending harassing messages about the "truth" which will be published if she doesn't share her story.
The present case and Gina's past with her husband are tied together. Gina will have to work hard to get to the truth of arson case while trying to keep her private life separate.
.
This is a wonderful story as it ties in everyday realities of harassment, rape, the overbearing press trying to get their story out first without accountability.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant book
a fire started in a family home with a candle left outside , a body is inside
as the firestarter starts their reign of terror its up to gina and her team to investigate but what is the motive and why does it all point to her husbands family again...her dead husband family who are instigating another round of attacks by the media
its a tense time for gina as her latest case seems to include her husbands brother and their is no love lost between them
as the firestarter starts another fire another victim is found inside...but what is the motive behind it all
a tense thriller that keeps you guessing as the whys and wherefores of it all...couldnt put the book down at all...another brilliant read
Another Police Thriller that I will add to my collection. This one is so so good!
This is the first time that I will read the series and although I didn't start at the beginning, this came out so well. I would love to know more about Gina Harte and I intend to do so by reading the first books. There is a good amount of mystery in this story. I had a hard time figuring out who the culprit was and that for me is a challenge. I have read so many thrillers like this and I am glad that like the rest of them, this really worked for me.
The characters were written in great detail. I have come to love Gina Harte and her team. Will definitely be on the lookout for the next one from this author.
Cheers to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC! :)
Gina's past is affecting her more than ever and it's hitting while she is facing one of her most difficult cases. There are plenty of surprises to keep you guessing. I was glued to the pages wondering what would happen next. And I loved the way things ended up between Gina and the reporter,it was unexpected and I loved it!
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Dying Wish’, the tenth book in the Detective Gina Harte series written by Carla Kovach, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
While the residents of The Meadows sleep, petrol is poured through the letter-box of a house owned by Faith and Glen Chapman, a burning rag is pushed in and within seconds the house is ablaze. Faith is away having taken her children to a hotel following an argument with Glen and when a body is found by the firefighters it can only belong to her husband. Meanwhile, as DI Gina Harte and DS Jacob Driscoll investigate, Gina has the added pressure of local reporter, Pete Bloxwich, threatening to publish a story that she was responsible for the death of her late husband Terry. This will turn out to be the most complicated case Gina has ever had to deal with as they don’t have much time to find the killer.
‘Her Dying Wish’ is a well-written police thriller and the fast-paced action have made it an exciting addition to the series. There’s plenty of intrigue, suspense and twists and turns, and the further I’ve got into the story the more difficult I’ve found it to decide which of the character could be responsible for the unthinkable actions carried out by the perpetrator. I’ve enjoyed reading more of Gina Harte who as always carries out her duties in a totally professional manner including keeping her relationship with DCI Chris Briggs private. I’ve been enthralled from the first page to the last and look forward to another in the series.
Another exciting book in the DI Gina Harte series! I love how every book in this series has such a great storyline. Gina is back to find a murderer/arsonist this time the hunt is a little to close to home with her ex brother'in-law being involved or is he? So many twists to this book and you never know who is really involved. Love it !! Absolutely love with an author keeps my guessing.! Highly recommend reading this book and series!!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy of Her Dying Wish by Carla Kodachrome.
Although I was routing for Gina and her team at the end of this book I found all the emphasis on her own problems outweighed the actual story.
I think it is time this episode in her life was shelved and move on.
Of course I was all about - who is dying? What is the wish? Oh the ending - worthy and inspirational.
Gina is called to a tragic housefire - a man burned to death in his own home. The perpetrator left a burning candle - what does that represent? Oh so many questions.
The killer narrates their story - abducting a small child and using dinosaurs to weave a tragic story.
Gina and her team struggle to establish a lead, meeting with a group of women who belong to the same gym, husbands who work together bringing them together.
Who is the real target?
A local journalist harasses Gina - Hetty and Stephen have filled his ear with their worries regarding Terry's death; I mean really it's been years - let the man go. Gina desperately searches for a way to appease him.
Another great addition to this series - but I'm seriously hoping Terry can finally just be dead.
This is an enthralling crime thriller, a read that is great
The tenth in the series with Gina Harte fearing her fate.
She's torn as her professional and personal life smash
Whilst a murder spree unfurls - will she crash?
The pressure is on, right from the start,
Making you worry about Detective Gina Harte.
This story has so much that keeps you on the edge of your seat
With a killer to stop and a journalist's threats to beat.
A great addition to a brilliant set
With the past impinging on the present and yet
There's always the search for justice, its true,
But does that always excuse what you do?
Blackmail, kidnapping, revenge and much more
Add so much to this story crime thriller fans will adore.
The motivations and actions so carefully concealed
Have you gasping when the truth is actually revealed.
This series is one that I keep looking out for
And one that I look forward to reading even more.
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you,
I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.
I have followed this series right from book one and always been a big fan. Carla is a wonderful author she draws you in, keeps you engaged from the very first page to the last.
However I have to say this is not one of my favourites. It was very focused on Gina and her personal issues especially her past and this part of it I found repetitive as I felt it had been covered so much already and was looking for an injection of something new for me the balance was off it needed more focus on the investigation and I really missed the camaraderie and relationships within the team.
Having said the investigative part was as ever filled with tension and suspense and didn't disappoint.
This is such a good series. Gina’s past not only rumbles along in the subplot it threatens just about everything, her job, her relationships with her daughter and granddaughter and maybe even her liberty, as a journalist wants her to divulge her part in her husband’s death. While he constantly hounds her for ‘her side of the story’, one of her most complex cases needs to be solved. Murder, arson, abduction, domestic violence and historical crimes all mount up alongside the bodies. A brilliantly tense read
WOW!! I was really blown away by this book. My head was spinning during this fast-paced crime thriller! My first I've read in the 10 book DI Gina Harte series by Carla Kovach. When I first requested Her Dying Wish, I didn't know that it was part of a series, but could definitely be read as a stand alone. DI Gina Harte is a strong female character who will grab you at the beginning and you will be so utterly fully invested in seeing if she solves the crime in the end. Loved all the characters in this book and how everyone's dark past, including Gina's catches up with them. I highly, highly recommend this book to ALL crime thrillers! This series is a must read---adding books 1-9 to my TBR now!!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I will post my full review on instagram @thrillersandcoffee on December 20 for my Bookouture Book Tour date!
Detective Gina Harte is back, and her new case is involves arson and murder. As the fires and loss of life continue, she also learns of a missing child. Then, another child goes missing, and Gina's team must try to solve the first, murders, and kidnappings. It's a race against time to figure out the mystery behind all of the crimes. Will Gina figure this out before more lives are lost? How do these cases connect to her deceased husband's brother? With a reporter threatening to write an expose claiming that she murdered her abusive husband, Gina must find a way to silence the story before her reputation and life is ruined. It's a great story; Kovach never disappoints.
🔥🏡So many victims, but not all innocent: unputdownable suspense😲
Another fast-paced, thrilling police procedural from Carla Kovach. I love the DI Harte series for the investigation plots. Normally I prefer a police thriller where the plot focuses on the case and not the investigators but here I really liked the way Gina Harte's own history of domestic abuse meshed with the stories of the arson victims and spouses.
I really was kept on tenterhooks guessing the mastermind behind the crime spree right until the high-action climax. Gina's a strong cop, great leader for her team and a real bulldog of tenacity about solving the case and saving victims.
She certainly does not shy away from risking her own life to protect victims and get justice. And the plight of the children caught up in the drama through no fault of their own: that was an angle of the story that really played on the emotions. I also like that, though there's violence involved, it's not overly graphic or gratuitous.
One tiny issue. I did not think the title was an especially good fit for the story. But
this author really knows how to spin a good, exciting yarn. Can't wait for the next in the series!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Love, love, love this series!
This is my favourite book so far and one of my top reads this year.
Gina and the team are investigating an arson attack but it’s slightly different as the killer leaves a tea light in a jar burning at the scene.
Another attack follows pretty quickly and soon it’s clear a group of friends are being targeted.
As well as this case, Gina is fighting off a journalist who wants his pound of flesh regarding the death of her husband Terry.
Terry’s family are pushing the journalist to put pressure on Gina and she’s terrified her world is about to crumble around her.
This is a fast paced crime thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.
A brilliant read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I'm a huge fan of the Gina Harte series and I loved this latest installment! Gripping story that left me reading way past my bedtime. Very well-written plot with twists and turns and a good pacing. I hope Gina's past is now really behind her and that we can now focus more on her future, both with her daughter/granddaughter and Briggs.
Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Gripping and twisty from the start this book had great pace and writing. Very hard to put down!
DI Gina Harte is being pursued by a journalist for "her side" of the story. The story is the death of her husband several years before and is being raked up by his mother and brother. They both think that Terry was squeaky clean as have always refused to believe that he was a domestic abuser.
Whilst all of this is going on, Gina and her team have to investigate the death by arson of a father and husband. It turns out that he was also not a very nice person, but all of the possible suspects have alibis.
When there is another death, and they are told that everyone loved the victim, they know that there is something going on that will need a lot of digging.
This book was full on from the start with plenty of twists and turns and I loved it!
Her Dying Wish is the 10th outing of the Detective Gina Harte series. This one kept me reading well past my bedtime! It is propulsive, clever, compelling and easy to devour. Bring on #11 Carla Kovach!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
Loved it!!! The Detective Gina Harte Series is one of my favorites. I was surprised at who ended up being Heather's boyfriend. I'm amazed how Stephen is able to get girlfriends and why the women stay with him. He is not a catch. What was with all the men in this book? They were all despicable, creepy and complete losers. Gina lucked out with Terry dying. She probably wouldn't even be alive if he survived. His mom and brother are just as hurtful. It's hard to believe how much they justify his actions and act like everything was Gina's fault. Stephen is just like Terry and Hetty makes excuses for both of her sons. I hope nothing comes in the way of Hannah and Gina's relationship since they are in such a good place with each other. I have a feeling Hannah will eventually learn the truth about her father and be mad at her mom for not telling her the truth. Gina can't seem to get a break with the news reporters, although Pete was ten times worse than the last one. This was a great mystery/thriller and had me guessing until the end. I didn't feel too bad for the "victims" but wished the perpetrator would have found a better way for revenge. The children ended up suffering the most. I can't believe how much energy the killer put in to destroying so many lives. He/She kept so many files and incriminating info to make sure the people were punished. Of course the person went about everything the wrong way. I wish the police would have been contacted right away when everything started, his/her story was heartbreaking.
Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. I can't believe this is the tenth book. I hope Gina and Briggs eventually get their happy ending. I can't wait to see what's next for Gina. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bookouture through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
