Book 10 in this wonderful series. It's as fresh and gripping as the first one.
The plot is fast, intriguing and full of twists to keep the pages turning. I was hooked from the very first page.
Gina Harte is a great character and I love her relationship with her team.
Loved it and can't wait to read the next one.
This started off slow and I thought it was going to go one way and then boom it really went so off-piste. I love a book in a series where you dont have to have read the previous ones, I am sure it would have made it more rounded but I coped.
Thoroughly enjoyable and easy to read. This was a definite one session book.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Her Dying Wish by Carla Kovach is the tenth installment of this compelling series, and while it can be enjoyed as a standalone, it will be beneficial for the reader to have a working knowledge of DI Gina Harte's history leading up to present circumstances. As with previous books in this series, I was virtually propelled along by a narrative that ramps up the tension with the turn of every page.
This time around, Gina and her team are called in to investigate a fire that leaves one man dead and his wife and children homeless. Trying to find a link between an arsonist's victims, Gina is forced to revisit the death of her own husband years before, and the narrative necessarily dips into a backstory that will be familiar to devotees of the series, but might baffle some who are meeting Detective Harte for the very first time.
This is a series into which I am always happy to immerse myself, and once again Ms Kovach has done Detective Gina Harte proud.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
The past is catching up with Detective Gina Harte in book 10 of the series. The writing is excellent in the strong story line as Gina is pursued by a journalist over the death of her husband. I love the characterisation and the interesting plot as well as the team dynamics. Overall, a good read but not my favourite in the series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
This was not really my cup of tea. Maybe it would have been different if I read previous books in this series because I just could not warm up to any of these characters. I generally make it a rule to not give spoilers but in this case, I will say this book needs a trigger warning of abduction, grooming and abuse of children. Although the author did a brilliant job getting in the heads of someone who could do something like this, I would have never picked up this book if I knew what was coming. The feel of this book to me was similar to The Night Shed by Lisa Jewell, so if you enjoyed that, you may also enjoy this book as well. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book releases December 16th and my review will also be posted to my Instagram blog (books_by_the_bottle) shortly.
This series is one I am late to the party. I have t read any of the previous books. The story opened slowly for me and it took me several chapters to really get interested in the suspense. The E ding was the best for me. There were several twists to the story that were a nice surprise.
This is a fantastic series and this book was as amazing as the previous ones. It had me gripped to the end.
Her Dying Wish is the tenth book in the Gina Harte series by Carla Kovach and it is a good solid police procedural.
It was also an improvement on the last couple of books mainly due to the progression of the underlying series arc and hopefully that can be put to one side as it has distracted somewhat from the main storyline in previous books.
The pacing and action was good for the first 70/75% of the book but then felt a bit too chaotic and contrived and the final ending a bit daft.
Overall a good read.
As always, a fabulously gripping and entertaining book. Interesting take on ‘the law’ though, with sympathy going to the perpetrators as well as the victims. Love the police characters in these books, but let’s hope this is the last to feature Gina’s past and her loathsome ex in-laws. It has been a great plot hinge, but I think it would only merit a couple of mentions per book now, before the repetition becomes boring. Just my view, but I love series of police procedurals where you can see the characters growing into themselves rather than stuck in a loop.
Great new addition to the Gina Harte series I love these books! Easy to read and read over 2 days- it is a real page turner which you want to keep reading to find out the truth. Loved that this book tied up with ginas life before with her abusive ex-husband the character development is fantastic.
A great read as usual in this Gina Harte series which kept me involved in the story line from the very first page.
All the characters were good and I can definitely recommend this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
For me, Carla Kovach is at her strongest when writing the DI Gina Harte series.
What a terrific book this is, it bombs along at pace and really does keep you guessing. The lit candle (Usually a sign of peace), left at every crime scene, gives this an additional, sinister edge.
I’m not usually a fan of detectives having personal involvement with cases, it seems to occur in nearly every book, but here it really works and adds another well thought out layer to the plot.
So thought provoking once we get the big reveal. Strong messages for both men and women, I urge all lovers of crime novels to give this a try.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Dying Wish, the tenth novel to feature DI Gina Harte set in the fictional Midlands town of Cleevesford.
When Glenn is killed in an arson attack on his home Gina and the team are puzzled by the burning tea light left at the scene. As his friends are targeted in more arson attacks it seems that there are secrets to be uncovered.
I thoroughly enjoyed Her Dying Wish, which has a complicated plot and a certain level of moral ambiguity that is not immediately apparent but develops over the course of the novel. Much of this derives from the killer’s motive and poses some difficult, but all too believable, questions about British law enforcement and their dedication to getting justice. I found it a timely theme and very much grounded in reality.
I was gripped by the arsonist plot line, which is clever and devious, if not overly realistic. The author does a great job of ramping up the tension and mystery and the pacing is great, timely reveals and developments maintain the interest level. It will be no surprise to series readers that the subplot revolves around the death of Gina’s husband many years ago. Her actions at that time leave her open to misconduct charges, or so she believes. Personally, I have my doubts and it has always seemed like a mountain out of a molehill to me as she was exonerated at the time and victims of domestic violence didn’t get the same support and understanding they do now. Hopefully this novel will put an end to it all. Having said that, the events in this novel are one of the strongest and most interesting threads in the series.
Her Dying Wish is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Absolutely loved this thrilling page turner of a book! Had me up all night reading it in one sitting. Carla is one of my favourite authors and this I’d not disappoint it was great. Highly recommend this book very worthy of 5 stars. Fabulous!
I was excited to read this book because I really liked another book of this author (What she did). As I started reading it, I did not have the same feeling of getting lost in the story. I did not connect with the story or the characters. I suspect it might be because this is the first book I read from a series so maybe I'll need to read the books from the series from the beginning. I still look forward to this author's next book. All my respect and gratitude to NetGalley, publisher and author, for allowing me to read a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Her Dying wish by Carla Kovach is the 10th book in series. Wow how is time flown for this great series.
A man has died due to someone setting fire to his home leaving his wife and family homeless and the only clue to his demise is a candle left burning in his reembrace. Once again Gina and her team are leading the investigation. As the delve deeper the investigation leads to a group of friends and an incident that happened years ago. As she soon finds out that one of the friends is the brother of her late husband Terri, so she must step down as leading officer and let Jacob take her place.
If that wasn’t enough to contend with, she is must deal with a journalist who is insistent that he knows what happened when her husband Terry died. Virtually harassing her sending her texts and emails to find out the truth.
Thanks once again Bookouture for an ARC of Her dying wish. This is another great episode in the story in the race to find the killer before other husbands ended up dead. It has a tense, gripping storyline but, I was a bit disappointed though that the story was centred mostly on Gina and not the rest of the team. I missed the camaraderie between them that showed in other books. 4 stars from me.
This is my first novel by author Carla Kovach and probably book ten in a series is not the ideal introduction. That said it did not hinder my enjoyment of the novel and I am already looking forward to catching up on the earlier books.
A group of friends are suffering the loss of one of the husbands following a house fire started by an arsonist. Gina Harte is investigating the crime and early investigations point to a connection within the group of friends that may put others in danger.
This was well written and sure the characters will grow on me the more I read of the series. Lots of positive things in this novel to encourage me to read more of the series.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
OMG, it's so true what they say. Time does fly awfully fast when you are having fun. This is already book 10 in this amazing series and even though I have not read them all yet, I loved each and everyone of those I did read already.
I loved it when the lead detective give their all. They don’t spend a lot of time sleeping, eating or doing anything else when they are investigating a case. Time is always flying for them too. Often they do not only have to try and find victims or catch baddies, they often have a whole bunch of things going on in their private lives too.
They want to keep going strong and feel not happy when their colleagues come across things from their past. They feel ashamed and are afraid people will look at them in a different way. What they don’t seem to realise is that their teammates won’t judge them and will try to help them as much as they can. You have to let them in though…
Gina and her team have a lot on their plate again. Little by little the truth is being uncovered. It’s an ugly one and it forces Gina to trade places for a while…
A fantastic book with one of my favourite police teams. 5 stars.
Thank you
The tenth book to feature Detective Gina Hart OMG WHAT A READ!!!!
I absolutely love this series and this book just blew me away. I loved the plot which was packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. I had no idea who the arsonist was until the big reveal. So many heart stopping moments and so emotional. For me this is the best in the series so far. This author certainly knows how to tell a story and keep the reader gripped until the very last page. Another explosive addition to this gut wrenching and very addictive series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
Her Dying wish pub date 16th Dec 2021. Thanks Netgalley, Carla Kovach and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my fair and honest opinions. Book 10 of the Gina Harte series. I must admit you should read books 1 to 9 first! This is one of my favourite UK crime series.
A group of friends find themselves loosing their husbands to arson. When Gina and her team ate called yo investigate they are at a loss. Even more confusing is lit candle left outside the house. Is it religious? Personal? In memory of someone? Or just s crazy fire starter?
I really enjoyed this one espically as Gina is having to deal with a journalist who won't stop badgering her regarding her ex husbands death. She is on edge that her secret will finally come out ruining everything she loves. The case finds her previous life and present life colliding together. I enjoyed that when faced with the tough decisions we get to be part of her decision process and let's just say I would've chosen differently ha!
The case was really interesting I honestly had no idea who was the arsonist but I did guess the motivation behind it. I found the other women we followed through the investigation, how they slotted into the whole story. I still had no idea !
As usual the investigative side of the story was done really well and it was easy to follow! Gina is as per a great leading lady and I enjoy reading her again, feels like I was waiting ages for this book and it didn't let me down.
Would I recommend this book? Ofcourse I would recommend the entire dam series!! 5 stars 🌟 for this one and the 9 that proceeded this one! Gina is a great strong independent woman and a great detective. The crimes are often well thought out and full of mystery. All my questions get answered through and it was a very inventive one to say the least!
