I did enjoy the book, I did have some pet peeves, which I will explain later on..First let's get to the story. We have Conall Campbell who did not want to ever get married since his first love left him heartbroken, vowing that was not for him, however Robert the Bruce told him to steal the bride of his enemy, he is reluctant but will do so as a loyal follower. He ends up stealing Lisette, instead of stealing the correct bride Isabeau. Lisette and Isabeau were stepsisters, and Isabeau and her mother have hated Lisette, because of how and when she was conceived. And my friends that is my pet peeve, I am not saying Lisette should be mistreated however I could understand why the stepmother hated her; however, her hatred should be to the husband who was portrayed as lovely, a good man...What?! how nice can he be when he cheated on his pregnant wife? yeah not buying it. And as a woman you cannot tell me that that would not hurt and then have to take care of said child.

My Highland Captor by Miriam Minger is a historical romance novel. This is the third book to the Warriors of the Highlands series but do not worry since it could be read as a standalone.

Conall Campbell is a warrior and a known womanizer. For saving King Robert’s life, he is rewarded with a wife who he is unwilling to have. However, the promise of his own land is too tempting. Therefore, he sets off on a journey to retrieve the woman named Isabeau Charpentier.

Lisette Charpentier is Isabeau’s half-sister and is mistakenly taken for the woman King Robert wants Conall to marry. When given the chance to reveal her true identity, she decides to not disclose it since it is the only way for her to escape her vindictive and malicious sister.

The story seemed a bit disjointed at times. As I was reading, there seemed to be missing a part. More specifically, it jumps from Conall not knowing Lisette’s true identity to him actually knowing the truth the next chapter – without any reveal as to how it came about.

This book is for those who love historical romances set in Scotland. It is very fast paced and interesting story with a lot of curveballs thrown at you.

I have got myself a copy and finally finished this wonderful book. Indeed, I going to read the prior two parts.
I thought not to find contentment with a new Highlanders' themed series, yet, it brought about happiness to me after my all-time favourite series was over; the Highlander Guard.

The main characters are so captive and the story is believable. I highly recommend it for romance lovers who appreciate a good romance book with a great writing style and alive characters.

A highland romance set in the time of “Robert the Bruce” with warring between Scotland & England and of course between clan to clan, the highlands are wild during this timeframe which makes it the perfect background for a romance.

With the first words of the story “Forgive me, my lord king, but I dinna want a bride!” — the reader is drawn in to a world of family secrets, kidnapping, forced marriage, illegitimate children, warring clans, and budding love. The story is well written and flows smoothly. I always enjoy stories in this period of time, something about medieval is enchanting…even if I would have loathed the lifestyle, lack of hygiene, limited resources etc., it still makes a great setting for a romance.

In this story we watch hardened warrior Conall Campbell fall in love with his bride, a bride he kidnapped, and she was not even the correct kidnapped bride. Conall accidentally kidnapped the wrong lady, wed and bedded her, before his King informed him of the error. But was it truly an error? He is drawn to his bride no matter if her name is Lisette instead of Isabeau. Lisette is a brave lass and she surprises him at every turn. Conall may even find himself in love.

Lisette is HAPPY she has been kidnapped, wedded, bedded, and brought to her new life in the highlands. Who wouldn’t be happy to escape her previous life of ridicule, abuse, and scorn…she had prayed for a chance at happiness and it seems to her that happiness came in the form of Conall Campbell. A marriage built on a foundation of lies must surely crumble, right? Well Lisette vows to be the best wife she can even if Conall may never love her.

Meanwhile Isabeau is busy plotting how to catch up with her half sister to retrieve property Lisette inadvertently took with her when she was kidnapped. Then a child Conall knew nothing about is brought to him in the arms of the last person he loved. How are Conall & Lisette ever to start their future with the past bearing down on them?

If you love highlander romances that are fast paced and full of possible heartache…you will enjoy this story. It’s not the most emotional read nor does it have complex multifaceted characters, but it is enjoyable.

Conall Campbell must follow his orders from King Robert, kidnap Isabeau Charpentier, the intended bride of Euan MacCullock. Hated by King Robert for the death of his two brothers, he seeks revenge. Conall kidnaps the half-sister by mistake. Lisette sees this as a blessing. No longer will she suffer under her sister's cruelty. Her worry, what happens when Conall and the King discover her real identity? This book moves pretty quickly. A little angst, but Conall and Lisette fall in love right away. Of course you really want Isabeau to get what she deserves.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

"Forgive me, my lord king, but I dinna want a bride!" Conall Campbell had helped save Robert the Bruce's life, but that did not mean he wanted the King to pick out a bride for him to steal from an enemy, her bridegroom!
Well I am sure the bride did not anticipate being kidnapped, but what happens when he grabs the wrong one?

An adventure that begins from page one and weaves an exciting tale with humor, several plots, intrigue, deceit, and a winding road to romance with a sigh worthy hero and a feisty heroine!!

As always, this author delivers a spellbinding tale that grabs your heart and leaves you smiling!

My Highland Captor is a totally entertaining Highland romance by Miriam Minger wherein, at the behest of King Robert, Conal Campbell has arrived at a convent, dress as a friar/healer, ready to kidnap Isabeau Charpentier, the betrothed of Euan McCulloch, a sworn enemy of the king as he killed the king's brothers. It was to be the king's first step in his revenge. Plus, Conal got a wife (he didn't want) and a title and holdings (which he didn't want). Win-win. When he entered the room he saw a beautiful young woman in a wondrous pink dress, dancing. He scooped her up and dosed her with the sleeping draught he had brought and escaped the walls of the convent to meet up with his men. She slept and slept. Mayhap her had over done it. Eventually she awakened and after a half-hearted try at escape, they were married. He was gentle and kind, if grumpy, and at least she had escaped her wicked stepsister, Isabeau. Oh, did I forget to say that he kidnapped the wrong woman? He got Lisette instead. Eventually he would discover his mistake but she would deal with that then.

Conal found himself in love, only for the second time. He was a good character, a little immature, but as kind and gentle as Lisette had first surmised. Lisette was also kind and gentle, and forgiving. And she loved him. She had loved him since the first time they had made love. He was a little slower to figure it out. He was new at all of this and he wasn't good with it. He wasn't careful, but he was lucky. In a well-written plot, the villains all pay and the innocents are rewarded. It was well-done and extremely engaging. I kind of want a Conal for myself.

Conall Campbell was being rewarded like his brother Cameron and former Commander, Gabriel MacLachlan for saving King Robert the Bruce’s life. However, it was a gift Conall did not desire and he let his King be aware of his true feelings, which was not the smartest of his intentions. As his brother Cameron often told him-Conall did not think before speaking and this definitely was one of these times! It had not been a smart decision to throw King Robert’s gift back in his face! Robert the Bruce did give him the tongue lashing he deserved! His sire let him realize he knew this was not a gift he desired and knew it was like a noose around his neck! Making Conall realize his King knew of his reputation as an unfeeling Libertine having meaningless relations with a variety of different women who meant nothing to Conall. He could talk any woman with his handsome face, muscular build and silver tongue into a night of lighthearted pleasure and entertaining passion in the boudoir. However the warriors who knew Conall on the battlefield and on the practice lists, were aware he was also a serious warrior that his fellow soldiers and allies respected and could rely on. Furthermore, he was also a brilliant strategist, trustworthy, intelligent, honorable, brave, fast on his feet and could also wield a sword like no other! The type of soldier you would want on your side of the battlefield.

Conall never shared with anyone his deepest secret, not even his brother Cameron knew that he had been madly in love with a lass named Lorna four years ago. One who rejected his marriage proposal and shattered his heart! Therefore he swore never to love or ask anyone to marry him ever again. He never wanted to revisit or reopen that feeling of a broken heart ever again! The king also informed Conall this was another mission that would give him a Castle, property, and an army of warriors. However, the icing on the cake is he would get a title and become a Baron once he accomplished this mission. It was an offer that would be very difficult to refuse even if he had a choice. The details of this mission were that Conall had to dress like a Friar to gain entrance into the nunnery, as this is where his soon-to-be-wife was living. Therefore he was to abduct Euan MacCulloch’s French fiancé, Isabeau Charpentier, who was supposed to marry McCulloch in two days. Not only abduct the Charpentier woman, but marry and consummate the union immediately,-even by force if given no option so it would all be legal and binding! Though the King had every faith in Conall, since women just melted at his feet, like bees to honey and that he would accomplish their goals without such nasty drastic measures. This was the reason his King chose Conall Campbell for his revenge against the one who was the leader in murdering his innocent brothers!

Lissette Charpentier was born of an illegitimate birth, though her parents loved each other, sadly her mother died in childbirth. She had been a scullery maid but loved by all especially Lissette’s father. Her father did all he could for her while he was alive even giving his name, He protected her as much as he could while he was alive, but he knew once he was gone her life would be very difficult. As her stepmother hated her and trained her daughter to hate her too. Once her father died all she had was taken away from her so she had nothing , She was given a servants quarters, servants clothes and had to be her stepsister’s ladies maid as all her gowns and gifts from her father were given to her daughter Isabeau or thrown in the fire. Her stepmother died but her half sister would abuse her both physically and mentally. Even though Isabeau was getting married she was still jealous and knew any future she was to have would be very dreaded and dire indeed due to her stepsister’s hatred and jealousy. Now since they had the same father both girls looked similar in looks, but Isabeau was a shrew where Lissette had the sweetest disposition. So one day when her sister was out Lissette tried on her wedding gown, just to see what it would feel like on her. After all Lissette would never have a real wedding to a man she loved ever. She was doing a little gig once it was on and the same exact time the most handsome Friar she she ever saw entered her room! It was confusing as he was forcing her to drink a liquid and saying he would never harm her. When she woke up she realized Conall had abducted her and was forcing her to marry him. Well she couldn’t be happier as he actually rescued her from a horrible life, but what would he do when he realized he rescued the wrong woman? Would Conall hate her and send her back? Lissette knew her wicked stepsister’s punishment might even be lethal! Plus Lissette also realized she was already in love with Conall Campbell. Will these star-crossed lovers have a chance at love or just feel deception and betrayal? Therefore will they go their separate ways? Read and find out.

Another fabulous book as this is my third book in this wonderful, engaging , series that I absolutely love, I have read all three exceptional novels in the “Warriors of the Highlands” series and have loved each and every one. This one reminded me a little bit of the fairytale Cinderella with a huge twist. The story is absolutely different, the only similarities are a few of the characters, the cruel stepmother, vicious and horrific stepsister and the kind father who died. No royals, enchantment or glass slipper so don’t get me wrong, this fictional story is totally different and Robert the Bruce is definitely no fairy godmother! Yet it is a beautiful story and there are so many surprises in this book that I didn’t see coming. I loved the hero in this book as there are many more layers to him once we dig deeper and I loved the heroine immediately as she definitely is the underdog that you couldn’t help but feel empathy for.

All in all it’s a beautiful, emotional story that will touch any romance readers heart. I absolutely recommend this magnificent book you can read as a stand alone book or in series order. I personally recommend all three books as each book is absolutely spectacular and unique which totally swept me away! This book also sets you up for “My Highland Raider” the next book in this extraordinary series which I can’t wait to read!

As always storyteller, Miriam Minger has another excellent take of high adventure, weaving true history with a beautiful breathtaking fictional story. This special author has written a choice story filled with compassion and includes a special understanding of human motivation and love.

Dearests, there was much I found hard to morally accept in this book, but not as you would expect; Colour me cynical.

🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ For lovers of romancy-romance and constant teary-eyed women
~ Almost enemies to lovers
~ For lovers of ‘I shall ALWAYS protect you my helpless, fragile doe-flower’

Lisette and Isabeau have been left alone to journey from Normandy to Scotland to take up sides with Scots against Robert Bruce and for England. The half sisters have had the worst of relationships, with Isabeau being poisoned against Lisette by her mother. Lisette was born out of wedlock, to the master of the house and a housemaid, now bereft of parents and with only a torturous half-sister as company, she is ever so eager to escape and finally be free, but staring at the walls of the convent, awaiting her sister’s marriage and her cruel fate, will the chance ever come?!

It does. It comes in the form of Conall, warrior, loyal to the Bruce, tasked with kidnapping Isabeau who is marrying the enemy. Convenient circumstances cause him to kidnap and marry the wrong sister, an event that will change is life drastically and refill his days and heart with love. He will build a family beyond his comrade in arms and will come to realise that sometimes life is far from straightforward.

✨Give it a read if you enjoy helpless females historical romances.

🌱THE MEH
~ The overwhelming ‘poor me’ tears were a bit much 😬
~ I couldn’t be convinced that the step-mother was wrong in her hatred of Lisette, given that she had been conceived and birthed under her and her child’s nose, and then she’d been ‘forced’ to care for her
~ The father, who cheated on his wife while she was preggers, was a ‘lovely’ man - SWERVE!
~ The helplessness was beyond my patience 😬

♡🌱 But that’s just me ;)

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I requested this ARC as this was the 3rd in the series.
Overall I did like this short novel.
Lisette has arrived in Scotland for her half-sisters wedding from France. Her sister along with her stepmother have treated her horribly as the badtard daughter of a kitchen maid. When she is mistakenly abducted in place of her sister, she chooses to go along with it.
Conall never wants to marry but when King Robert orders him to steal and marry the bride of their enemy, he has no choice.
I liked Conall for the most part but he need to have his conversations sooner so as not to prolong misunderstandings. Lisette was a bit boring. She was sweet as everyone kept repeating. She was constantly in her bedroom after one thing or another.
I would check out the previous books in the series as well as Gavin's story next.

Sweet and Steamy Highland Love with a Healthy Helping of Adventure

What a wonderful twist to the captive bride trope! It made for such a quick, fun read. Miriam Minger puts a sweet and comical spin on things when Connell Campbell accidentally steals the wrong bride. Isabeau Charpentier is the young French woman King Robert wishes for Connell to capture, wed, and bed. Rumored to be breathtakingly beautiful, Isabeau is in fact a insert-insult-of-your-choice-here, who makes the life of her younger, half-sister sister Lisette a misery. When Lisette is mistaken for Isabeau, she is elated to have been carried away. However, as a young woman with a tender heart and strong conscience, she is quickly guilt-stricken at the fact that she is complicating Connell's life through her unintentional deceit.

Meanwhile, Connell is a handsome highland rake who had no wish to ever wed. But as sweet Lisette steals into his heart, he finds himself ready to become a new man. Family, love, and marital loyalty become increasingly important to him as the story goes on--and as he must follow the dictates of his king. For once, the reformed rake is quite believable here, as Connell slowly undergoes an internal transformation, learns to treat Lisette with patience and gentleness (reminding me of a Judy Garwood hero!) and commits to being faithful to one woman evermore.

The cast of characters, especially King Robert, really adds depth to the world Minger builds and I could easily see myself spending more time in her medieval Scotland. There is heartache, love, treachery, redemption. The villains are punished quite satisfyingly, and the book has a fine, dramatic conclusion that sets up the next in the series very intriguingly! As another reviewer said, this book makes me want to read even more highland romances. This was a total comfort read. Sweet with heat, not a clean romance but not overdoing the steam either.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC copy!

The best part of reading romances is when they combine humor, fun, angst, and of course, romance. My Highland Captor has all of that in spades, especially in the first half of the book. The hero, Conall Campbell, has sworn to never get married after a disastrous first love left him heartbroken. But this changes when Robert the Bruce demands that he steal the intended bride of one of his enemies. Luckily, Conall grabs the wrong woman; instead of the cruel Isbeau, he takes her kind half-sister, Lisette.

As it usually does, hijinks ensue and the two find themselves actually falling in love with each other, only to have numerous obstacles thrown in their way despite their hasty marriage. Lisette and Conall made sense as to why they quickly fell for each other, and the sweetness of their dynamic really sold why their marriage would ultimately work. This was a breezy and fun read and I can't wait to read more from this author.

Fabulous story. Conall is a warrior for Robert the Bruce. He is to be rewarded for his bravery with a wife that he doesn’t want. Lisette is terrified of the plans her step-sister has for her. A case of mistaken identity sees the two being wedded. It is a fast moving story with wonderful characters. There is deceit and intrigue as the clans continue to wage war. Despite the beginning love blossoms between Conall and Lisette and they start to build a happy life.

A highly entertaining and at times hilarious read involving kidnapping, mistaken identity and further intrigue. I really enjoyed the character development of Conall and Lisette, particularly as we observe the former evolve from a marriage-hating man into one deeply in love and willing to do anything for Lisette. I also appreciated that the story did not solely focus on the two main characters but occasionally switched perspectives to include Lisette's sister and her husband. I think this provided for a richer story and more satisfying conclusion. The book is great for anyone interested in historical romance.

Now that's what I call a sweet romance Volume I.

"My Highland Captor" is not sweet in terms of it being chaste (thank God--all respect to chaste romances, but they're not for me) but it is sweet in virtually every other aspect. It actually wasn't a surprise to me when I looked up Miriam Minger and discovered that she'd written inspirational and sweet romances as well, with this being considered one of her "sensual" romances. She's a really interesting writer, and you could feel the influences from her other subgenres filtering in. For me, that was a good thing. I could see how this would actually be a great "training wheels" read for someone trying to transition from sweeter romances to hotter ones, as it's quick, to the point, and isn't overwhelmingly racy.

The novel actually reminds me a lot of old school romances from the '80s, though it isn't nearly as problematic as they tend to be. Obviously, there is the medieval setting, which was refreshing in a sea of Regencies; but also the kidnapping angle, and the idea of a sweet young thing being taken away by a Highlander. Throw in some mistaken identity and a kid, not to mention a cameo from Robert the Bruce, and you've got something that reads like it's out of '88 in a lot of ways. And I mean that as a compliment--I think that a lot of readers can get a bit weary of the more modern sensibilities found in historicals published today. This definitely has a vintage feel.

My critiques are relatively minor. I preferred our hero, Conall, to our heroine, Lisette; as much as I have no issue with an inn0cent, virginal heroine, she could be a bit too sugary for me at times. Especially in contrast to a couple of other female characters, who were significantly more morally ambiguous, and honestly a bit more interesting for me. But I'm a sucker for a bitchy heroine, and I'll admit that I'm probably not in the majority there. (Unless... the majority is silent.)

If you're in the mood for a quick Highlander read, I'd definitely recommend trying out "My Highland Captor". Though the third in a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. It could be an easy fix if you're in the mood for a good old-fashioned "kidnapped virgin" trope.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Nothing compares to a well done Highland romance. Talk about a page turner! This was such a quick read, I was able to finish reading this lovely story in one sitting. A rakish bride groom who wants nothing to do with marriage AND he has to kidnap his unwanted bride! I had a good chuckle over that. To make things interesting…he kidnaps the wrong woman. Fortunately, Lisette is Conall’s perfect match and I just loved these two together. From page one I was all in and I really enjoyed the emotional journey I was taken on. Get ready for some nail biting twists with this one.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

Lisette is the bastard daughter who is treated as a servant by her half suster. Cornell is the Scot who is supposed to kidnap the sister, marry her, and bed her to thwart the plans of the English and the French. The whole plan goes up in smoke in a case of mistaken identity. Will Lisette and Cornall be able to find happiness? Read it and discover the answer!

A King, A Devil, A Breath Taking Romance:
A magnificently written romance drama that took my breath away.
The characters were so strong yet so charming. You'll fall in love with
both Conall and Lisette right away. Also you'll hate the villain.
I knew right away that this story was not going to be your usual romance story.
I had many Oh no...Ha ha ha...and a few Yahoo's by the end.
Over the top excitement and danger with several shocking situations.
Lots of emotional heart wrenching struggles to overcome, betrayals, humor,
sincere confessions that drove me to not put this book down until finished.
This is the first book of the series and I really look forward to the next story.
I did receive this book free for my honest opinion. I did love this story.

An interesting book to read. This was about a Scottish Laird who was tricked into marrying the sister of his intended bride. It was exciting and full of surprises. There was excellent description of the Scottish castles and countryside. The story was never boring and l was pleased that l read it.
