4.5 STARS
This is a beautiful, emotional and at times heart wrenching story.
It’s about emotional and physical scars, insecurities, strength and LOVE.
Bullying is a central theme that’s shown and explored. It’s a very important topic in my opinion, I’m so glad the author chose to write this and in such a beautiful way.
Hollis has been physically scarred and has an extremely difficult time going back to high school after her accident. with the way she’s treated. She feels like an untouchable.
She has a passion for math so she later braves going to college where she meets dreamy Lisher. Swoon!
She thinks there’s no chance with him because of her physical scars.
Luckily, Lisher is awesome, soulful and persistent.
He has his own story that helps in understanding him.
Their relationship is really sweet and emotional. I really love them both and together.
There’s secondary characters that play a big part in the overall story.
Benton is one of those, he’s a friend that plays a part in giving strength to Hollis. Someone who she can trust and lean on.
It’s a strange/interesting dynamic between the three of them.
Chuck and Maggie are the BFF’s to the main characters and they are really interesting and give some lighter moments to a heavy story.
Abigail was a surprise, a mystery. And there’s really something there!
There’s plenty of things I won’t spoil.
Enjoy the journey.
This is an important and wonderful must read!
Unfortunately archived before I could download it.
If this becomes available again I am still interested in it.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster. It was fluffy and romantic, and yet i often found myself heartbroken. Either way, this book touched my heart in ways I never thought a book called. It was such a realistic view to hate that others might feel towards them. The whole book by Alison G Bailey conveyed such an important message in a figurative and emotional way that it kept me tagged along till the end!
I am certainly a fan of Alison G Bailey books now!
Unexpectedly good! I like YA so I thought I’d give this title a try, despite worrying that it would be just a teenage love story. I’m so glad that I took a chance because this book is so much more than a teen romance. It deals with issues of self esteem, self image, gender identity, family relationships and much more. Give this book a chance - you won’t regret it!
This book went in! Without any fear this book tackles some really heartbreaking and emotionally challenging topics, I found the characters were really well developed, we hear the story mainly from Hollis’ POV however, we also get a small chapter from Benton too. Hollis, Benton and Risher are the three characters this story focuses on and they each have their own ‘Hidden Scars’. This was a tough read at times; and it wasn’t what I expected when we start with Hollis and her story I thought this was going to be mostly focusing on her however it moved on to both Risher and Benton and wow, their stories individually were a tough read but Benton *no spoilers* = your just going to have to read this for yourself! This is both a heartbreaking and a heartwarming story, describing some brutal and emotional topics with such elegance. A great read.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and provide a review.
This was the first time I have read anything by Alison G Bailey and I loved it. The storyline was interesting, that had me both uplifted and an emotional wreck in equal measure, the characters were relatable and loveable and the writing was great. A really enjoyable read.
Hidden Scars, which was formally titled "Stop" is a honest emotional realistic story that I highly recommend to every reader.
This is not your typical love story, it is filled with important messages and reminders readers to stop the hate and accept others for who they are.
I really admire and adore Alison Bailey for writing this book because she didn't do the mainstream romance story but allowed readers to open their minds and hearts of what really matters in life.
This is a book about friendship, love, acceptance, strength and healing. I highly recommend it to my followers.
Hollis is just starting college after a terrible accident she's afraid to leave her protective bubble without her best friend or her parents to help navigate. Can she make college fun after that terrible accident or is going back home the better option?
This book hits on all of my feelings, I instantly fell in love with Hollis and felt all the emotions that were happening with her, I was on an emotional roller coaster. I ugly cried so hard my kids didn't know what was wrong with me. It takes you back to college days, also keeps reminding you there is more to people than just their looks. The way Alison writes is so raw she is seriously talented. Definitely adding more of her books to my tbr.
