An enjoyable Christmas cozy mystery. I enjoy the main character, Rona and here ex-husband, Johnny.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by The Wild Rose Press, Inc. and #NetGalley for my honest opinion. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
I love a cozy mystery and this one was okay.
If you enjoy a fast paced Christmas cozy mystery, then this is the book for you.
I found it to be an easy read, but the story fell flat for me at a few parts.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
This novella's as Christmassy as a Hallmark movie from the very first page. Someone literally drops dead at a charity cookie auction, forcing all concerned into a busy hunt for the means and motive behind this very public deed. Set in small-town Missouri, on tree-lined streets hosting white clapboard churches, it's centered on the owner of a bakery/cafe (the Linn House Mystery series), so features lots of goodies to tease your appetite while you read.
You don't need to know all the series' characters' back story to enjoy this one. The writing, pacing, and descriptions are all satisfactory; the mystery's solution very much rooted in the characters seen in this installment. It's a good choice for a short commute or a coffee/cookie break in your favourite cafe.
I found Death by Gingerbread Drops by Jo A. Hiestand unappealing as a mystery as there was little to no character or storyline development done with the exception of a single individual. There was actually more space in the story devoted to the ancestors of the primary character than to the actual storyline. I realize that this was more of a novella in length but with the shortened structure I wish the author had made more of an effort to flesh out the characters.
Death by Gingerbread Drops is part of the Christmas Cookies collection of books.
This was a very quick read. Rona Murray is the owner of Linn House Bakery. She decides to enter in the towns Christmas Cookie Auction for charity.
Rona along with all the other bakers did not expect the night to end up the way it did. The death of the winner from the year put the police looking at Rona the culprit. Rona knows she has to find the real killer to clear her name.
There was not too much suspense in this one for me.
Thank you NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press, Inc for the copy to read. This is my personal review.
As a professional baker, Rona Murray enters her cookies into the town’s charity auction and ends up a murder suspect. Who had it out for last year’s winner, because Rona knows it wasn’t her, even if she is the number one suspect. How can she clear her name? Whatever it takes, she’s going to do her best to do just that.
This one was OK, but at times I felt like I was listening to my grandmother, going off tangent on a thread and then picking back up where she left off as if she never veered off the topic. A little clunky, but that could be just me reading a new author for the first time.
I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. I have not read this author before but she is now on my list. Rona is the amateur sleuth and also a suspect in this murder and she was part of the cookie fund raiser. Her job is to find out who did it.. It is one of those that you don't find out who did until the end. A GOOD READ.
I found the dialog to be very awkward in this book. Conversations were interrupted by long descriptive passage and then continued. Nothing new as far a plot. Rona makes gingerbread drop cookies for and auction and someone dies after eating one and she is the suspect.
Someone eats a poisoned gingerbread
drop cookie at a fund raiser and later dies. The police are looking at Rona as suspect number one so she must find the truth. The suprise at the end was unexpected. Thanks #netgalley and #TheWildRosePressInc for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a Christmas novella. Very short. Not really my thing. Rona is divorced but yet still hangs out with her ex. I can't imagine getting back with an ex for me there was no chemistry between them. I also didn't understand why she got involved with the murder. So for me this was just ok. 3 stars
