DNF.
I love Dolly based on some of the amazing charitable work she has done over the years and so I was hopeful about this book however this was a DNF for me. Admittedly, I only made it a few chapters in but the main character felt too cheesy for me because of the way she thought through things and her constant references to how music was her life. Completely understand the love of music and it has been a huge part of my life as well but this felt like her main character trait was that she was musical and REALLY loved music, so much that it was everywhere etc. It all felt a bit overdramatic.
Minor spoiler: The chapter where the main character shots a gun in an enclosed cabin of a tractor trailer and somehow the man hit did not crash and the shot was relevantly contained just felt too unrealistic and dramatic. The unlikeable main combined with plot points that felt ridiculous made me feel like this book was not one I would enjoy or want to prioritize completing. Best wishes to the authors!
"Ryn, Rose, Run" is a cute story that would make a good beach read. I was interested in it because of Dolly Parton (duh!) and a lot of her voice came through in the characters. There's nothing particularly memorable about it, and the big secret that "Rose" is hiding takes a little too long to get revealed. But if you're on vacation and want a book that will keep you reading, it's good.
Yikes.
I really didn't like this book. It was terrible. Boring for the most part, you might be surprised by the fact that there is no thriller aspect of this book for most of it, even though it's a James Patterson. There is also no character depth. It's very expositional. For how long the book is I was surprised that I bonded with none of the characters. I would skip this one and save yourself the time.
First, this is the first book I've read by James Patterson. I know, strange, right? Second, while I don't like country music (don't listen to it at all) Dolly Parton is such an icon that I knew I had to at least try the story out. It definitely has that country flair one would expect, with a story line that is easy to read. It's easy to see Dolly's influence on the character Ruthanna (5'2" and yet casts a 6 foot shadow...hello!), the story isn't ultimately about her. It's about AnnieLee and her grit and determination to make it somehow, someway, and no one, and I do mean No One will get in her way, including the secrets she's trying to keep, including even herself. It's a fast paced narrative that keeps you rooting for AnnieLee, no matter the twists and turns that keep popping up. A delightful story that pulls you in and keeps you engaged.
*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
I was up until 3 AM reading this book! Once I started I didn’t want to stop! The writing is amazing, the storyline has all kinds of bends and curves, very interesting side of the music business you may not know. The two authors obviously do really well writing together!
Patterson has done it yet again with a great story, likeable characters, and a wonderful setting. Plus his coauthor provided a lot of depth on the country music scene and wrote the songs. Will definitely recommend this book. 4.5 stars They should write together again.
Get ready for fast-paced edge of your seat thriller. Run, Rose, Run is a dynamic collaboration between James Patterson and Dolly Parton about a rising country singer who is hiding in plain sight from her past. Lots of twists and turns, as well as great music lyrics. Aside from the overall theme of the book and the included lyrics, I couldn't tell where the two authors tagged each other. Thumbs up.
This was a good read rather different from a typical Patterson book. Interesting plot and storyline. This I a book which I would recommend to others.
I don’t read enough Patterson I’ve decided. This was great and I definitely requested it because of Dolly Parton. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of this story.
I’ll be buying a copy of this immediately for my personal library.
I haven’t read much from James Patterson but was happy to read Run Rose, Run as a huge fan of Dolly Parton. You can definitely tell Dolly put her imagination and liveliness into this. I loved the idea of a woman trying to make a career as a musician and I love thrillers. However, I found the thriller portions of this book to be somewhat cliche. Still very enjoyable though!!
Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!!
When I saw Dolly Parton's name on this book, I absolutely had to read it! I noticed much inside these pages that had to come from Dolly, so I was not disappointed.
This is a story about a young woman, Annielee Keyes, hitching her way to Nashville and quickly rising to fame as a country singer. There is a thriller aspect to this book, but I didn't really feel that until much closer to the end.
Annielee Keyes is, by all means, just like her nickname, a firecracker. So, it was no surprise that her personality won her the respect of retired country superstar Ruthana. This begins her trip to fame after handsome Ethan Blake makes their introduction.
This story has romance, secrets that are revealed, and a whole lot of country music! This isn't the style of book I usually read, but I was still able to enjoy it!
Out March 7, 2023!
I loved this one. The vibe was amazing. The story was a mix of mystery, suspense and romance. The characters were really well written and that always brings a book to life for me. This was not a break neck speed book but in my opinion that made this one even better because you had time to enjoy the flow of the characters and story. It held my interest the whole time and I was sad when I had to say goodbye to these characters. I loved it!
Interesting and well written I just personally couldn’t get into the story. Just a little slow and unbelievable at some points. A runaway homeless beautiful singer with a story to hide. Taken in by a beautiful successful singer. Totally unbelievable and didn’t catch my attention much. Ending predictable and also way too drawn out. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
What a fantastic read!
I grew up on classic country music, so anything written by or about Dolly Parton is a must-read for me. This is the first book I've read where I tried to differentiate what portions of the story were written by which author. I couldn't do it! It was very well written and the story was so captivating that I stopped trying to find which part was Dolly and which part was Patterson.
I love mysteries and this one didn't disappoint. The story unfolded and I was anxiously turning pages wanting to know what was next. The characters were believable and well thought out, and you were rooting for everyone's happily ever after.
If you love James Patterson, or if you love Dolly Parton, or if you love country music, or if you love a good mystery, or if you love being pulled deep into a story as you read it - this book is for you.

I have always loved Dolly Parton since I was a young child and when I learned of this book Run, Rose, Run I knew I had to read it. This book was well written and made me imagine what it would be like as Rose. James Patterson & Dolly Parton wrote this book very well and I have to say it was hard to put down! I hope that another book is written soon with both Dolly and James as I will read it in no time.
I miss the original James Patterson and his writing. Every time I try to read one of his newer books with the latest co-author I am just let down. This one was ok… and that’s really all I can say… characters were ok, storyline was ok… it was redundant and didn’t keep me wanting more.
I have already read and reviewed this. No idea why I was approved for it a year later. But thank you anyways.
I was super pumped to read this book (hello, dolly parton!) but I will admit I had a hard time getting into the story. The first half just kind of was slow paced and didn’t captivate my attention. I wish I would have paired it with the audio book as I heard it was phenomenal!
I always like James Patterson and this collaboration with Dolly Parton is very good. Rose is an aspiring country star determined to make her mark but a dark past keeps threatening her success and her life.
What a great book! Put it on your must read list.
AnnieLee Keyes is a down on her luck wanna be country singer who arrives in Nashville with nothing but a backpack. She convinces a local bar to let her sing a set, and her world was never the same again. But, she has a past that does not want to let her go. When her past and present collide, her new friends may learn more about her than they can handle.
The characters were all so relatable and had me rooting for them all. The plot captivated me from the start. It had dreams, friendships, love, as well as suspense and mystery.
Different from most of Patterson's books, but highly recommend.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
