For me, the plot was a bit helter-skelter and the jokes didn't quite land. But the sloth is SO CUTE. Will recommend to kids who love animal books.
My boys absolutely loved Sloth Sleuth! They are big fans of Bad Guys and The Investigators and when I saw this book, I knew they would love it too. It’s a great graphic novel and full of fun pictures and a good story. Join Paz, the first sloth detective, as she solves mysteries on Winklefuss island. I highly recommend this book to all young graphic novel readers!
Super cute book for young readers! I mean who doesn’t love a sloth as a main character much less a sleuthing sloth?!? (How fun is that to say?!?) I loved it as much as my little one.
At heart, this is a pretty standard kid's mystery. While it involves actual crime, it's less threatening since it centers on animals rather than people. It doesn't take itself very seriously and relies on some obvious repeated gags. Cute if not especially innovative.
A great, fun graphic novel.
On an island full of criminals where do you start when looking for who is poising them all.? There’s only one sloth and his librarian sidekick who can solve the crime.
3.5 stars = Good +
Cute story with lots going on. There's a character introduction early on that feels a little overwhelming. I think I might have enjoyed this even more if the action started sooner. Lots of sloth-based humor and information. I think kids will have fun with this one.
Sloth Sleuth is a delightful little graphic novel that is sure to delight young readers (and the young at heart).
Recommended for library collections with a strong demand for YGN.
This is a cute graphic novel which is perfect for kids who love mysteries and of course cuddly animals involved in the mysteries. Paz is the world’s first sloth sleuth on Winklefuss island which is crawling with criminals. A mysterious illness is striking the customers of Cookies Diner; Paz is on the case trying to figure out which of the various criminals on the island are responsible. This was a really fun read.
Thanks to Clarion Books and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
Sloth Sleuth is sure to be another winning series from Cyndi Marko, creator of Kung Pow Chicken. The island of Winklefuss is filled with criminals. When the customers at Cookie's Diner all start falling ill with a mysterious illness, will Paz, the Sloth Sleuth be able to solve the crime? Adorable illustrations, appealing main character, and appealing graphic novel format will make this super popular with kids of all ages in elementary. I can't wait to order a copy.
Sloth Sleuth is on the case.....it might take him a little while to get there....but he's on it! I loved his book! The breaking of the fourth wall, and talking to the reader, was a huge hit with my son! Sloth Sleuth lives in the Bermuda Rhombus, on a small island. We get to meet a kinda clueless but dedicated law enforcer, a librarian, and a host of fun animal characters. We're guided through the tale by a narrator in a trench coat with a cool disguise......who could he be? Ha!
Everything about this was well done and amusing. It was a wonderful mix of plot and humor, without resorting to too potty humor as other books in this genre might. I found the characters charming and loved the dialogue. My son thought the conversations were hilarious. I highly suggest this book!
