I just didn't click with this book. Way too many characters and a slow developing plot. I enjoyed the descriptive backgrounds on the setting, but struggled to maintain interest. It was also challenging in that I did not like or connect with any of the characters.
The Home Group is a glamorous collection of celebrity members’ clubs dotted across the globe, where the rich and famous can party hard and then crash out in its five-star suites, far from the prying eyes of fans and the media. The most spectacular of all is Island Home – a closely-guarded, ultraluxurious resort, just off the English coast – and its three-day launch party is easily the most coveted A-list invite of the decade. Behind the scenes, tensions are at a breaking point: the ambitious and expensive project has pushed the Home Group’s CEO and his long-suffering team to their absolute limits. All of them have something to hide and their secrets could be revealed at any moment.
I was looking for a thriller that would check the boxes on being a bingeable, drama-filled, entertaining journey and THE CLUB came through with all of that. Who doesn’t love to get a glimpse into the privileged lives of famous people? The Home Club caters specifically to this population, taking care of their every need and request while making sure that everything stays discreet. Lloyd gives readers an insider look into the new Island Home through some of the higher ranking staff, which allows for us to get a glimpse into the drama along with insider knowledge of how the members' clubs work. The story is ultimately told through alternating narratives that weave together to explain the events of the dramatic and murdery opening of Island Home. THE CLUB is a great popcorn thriller for anyone looking for an escapist read!
A huge thank you to Harper for my gifted copy!

Ned and Adam Groom are brothers who own and run a successful chain of exclusive hotels all over the world. Island Home, their newest location may be the best one yet if it ever actually opens. At a preview weekend of sorts a few crème de la crème guests are invited to check out the amenities, but when dirty little secrets come to light it becomes clear that not everyone will make it off the island alive.
The story is told from the multiple POVs of some of the hotels employees and the owners, and many more characters are referenced....it's a lot to keep track of at first. The beginning of the book really got bogged down in the overly descriptive details of the hotel, but it certainly set the stage nicely. Once the mystery started to unravel and some shared histories were exposed, I was hooked and wanted to learn how all of the things were going to come together in the end. Loved the ending. Be warned, this is a slow burn mystery as opposed to an edge of your seat thriller, so manage your expectations appropriately.
Special thanks to @NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The wait list is in the thousands. The cost of membership, in the millions. It will be the party of the year, the decade, perhaps the century--a literal who's-who of the glitterati.
Ned Groom has made his family's business the Home Club the most sought-after membership in the world. It's latest acquirement--a private island off of England--is intended to be his crowning glory in a life full of wins. Unfortunately for Ned, his biggest surprise in a weekend booked with surprises may be the last thing that he ever accomplishes.
A rotating point of view between Ned's hapless brother Adam, his PA Nikki, the svelte manager Annie, and head of housekeeping Jess quickly reveals how this oh-so-precisely executed launch weekend quickly turns into days of sabotage, betrayal, and murder.
I loved this book. There was no build-up: you jump right into the sinking car off of the causeway that runs from the mainland, and you're gasping for air from then on out. Everyone is suspicious, everyone is in danger, and no one will leave unscathed. The character-building was fantastic, and somehow made you root for nearly everybody even when you couldn't actually like any of them. I will be checking out future books for sure.
I tried to like it. I picked it up a few times and put it down again. I felt thos book wasnt original enough for me or different. Nothing stood out. Just wasnt for me
What would you do to get into The Club? With locations all over the world celebrities come far and wide to visit The Club locations. The opening of the island Club was no different. Told through multiple different points of view and varying timelines the opening of this new location ends with multiple murders and almost everyone with a motive.
While the premise was an interesting one I found parts to be difficult to follow but at the same time added to make the ending interesting . Overall though the book was a good read and I thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this ARC.
Thanks # netgallery for this book in exchange for an honest review. Quick read about intertwined, unlikable, self centered individuals. But gosh, this was a fun, great read. Recommended
The Home Group is a very elite club that only the who’s who of celebrities are invited to join. The Club takes place at Home’s newest location, an island with one way in/out.
Told from multiple points of view, you learn about everyone’s secrets, which creates many suspects for the murder.
I thought the concept was interesting and the pace was good. I also liked the storylines that unfolded, but even with the twists, this book was just average for me.
This novel is getting a LOT of buzz. The celebrity club members are literally on board for this one. The trappings of the super exclusive club are over the top and many of the characters are the vapid kind we love to hate. Murder begins the novel and while there are many people, members and staff to keep us on our toes. The island setting gives us a locked room setting and the authors (a man and a woman) slowly develop a richly layered plot.

This just wasn't for me. 🤷🏻♀️ A few points I'd like to make:
1. It should have been called Home & not The Club. I loved the idea of this exclusive club that's supposed to feel like home, but the novel just didn't execute it well, IMO. I didn't connect with even one of the characters. They were pretty much all awful people.
2. It was overly descriptive about things I just didn't care about (furniture, for instance).
3. Yes, the ending was twisty, but, after forcing myself through the book, I just ultimately didn't care what happened at Island Home.
You would like this book if everything I just described wouldn't bother you.
The Club is a book about the opening of a new location in a chain of very exclusive clubs. The book intrigued when I read the synopsis and I had a hard time putting it down through the first half. Unfortunately, the constant unveiling of secrets at the opening party/weekend began to feel completely unbelievable. That combined with the fact that there wasn’t really a likable character to be found and most of them were downright depraved left a bad taste in my mouth. The second portion of the book after secrets started to be revealed felt like a slog and I felt kind of dirty reading about all these awful people. If you like reading books about unlikeable people with lots of juicy secrets you might like this book much more than I did. 3/5 stars just because I enjoyed the early part/setup of the book.
I had such high hopes for this book and it was good but it wasn't great. I also really hated the way the chapters were set up. Would much rather have seen the book broken into parts by day and each person have a chapter
If you like to read about celebrity gossip, you will most likely enjoy this book!! This is a fun mystery set among celebrities. A run read with some plot twists! Never read this author before but look forward to more. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an ARc in exchange for a review.
I found this book boring beyond words. There were too many characters and the main characters were hard to connect too. The author did a lot of rambling that was a complete distraction. The opening of the book was actually interesting, then the book became a snooze fest. It did pick up a bit about 3/4’s of the way through, but not enough for me to recommend this book to anyone.

This book is a loaded mystery salad with so many new pieces thrown in while being tossed around the bowl.
There were a lot of people to keep track of in this book. We get so many different points of view and I did struggle a bit to keep them all in my mind. Also the amount of story lines was a bit overwhelming. Overall I did like the story lines and I was captivated with how each little situation was woven together.
The pace to me was a slow walk with random sprints sprinkled throughout. I really enjoyed the celebrities exclusive clubs aspect and the remote island setting. The details were so good and I could literally see what the island looked like.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC for me to read and review!
Definitely a good read. I’m starting to not love Reese Witherspoon picks anymore. It’s a good read but not my favorite. Started very slow too!
Welcome Home!
This is a modern day version of “And Then There Were None” filled with drugs, wild sex and totally inappropriate behavior. The story takes place over three days on the exclusive Island Home Club. Each chapter is told from a different point of view. We know the characters have done bad things, but many of them were still likable. Nikki was definitely my favorite character. I would have loved a chapter with Ned’s point of view. I couldn’t stop reading!! You will get sucked in from the start. I think Miss Christie would approve of this poetic justice ending.
I’m looking forward to more books by Ellery Lloyd. I want to thank the author, Harper Publishing and Netgalley for a complimentary copy of the audio book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Island Home, the latest in a line of exclusive celebrity clubs, is finally celebrating its debut after months of construction and budgetary delays. Advertised as being the utmost invite only, luxury space, famous members from athletes to actors gather from across the world for a private weekend of debauchery. While everything is red carpets and glamour on the outside, Ned and Adam, the owners of The Club are barely hanging on and the cracks are starting to show.
Advertised as a whodunnit murder mystery, it was refreshing at first to have some early reveals about which character was in fact going to die and then having the pieces unfold from there. However, after the initial few snippets of information the story started to drag for me. I also found myself having a hard time keeping the characters straight, possibly because I read via Audiobook but also cause they all seemed to have similar personalities. I was excited, based off some of the previews I’d read, that this would be a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the lifestyles of the rich and famous and a guilty pleasure read but I found all the players to be just awful people that I didn’t have much interest in seeing how their story lines turned out. I felt that the details and backstory’s on each person were too drawn out that I easily lost track of what was happening in the present moment. There were definitely some twists in there that I suppose were shocking but I think this one just lost me too early on!
The Home Club is a set of exclusive celebrity enclaves scattered throughout the world. Island Home is set to open and a lavish three day launch party is about to begin. But by the end of the party, more than one person ends up dead. Who are they? And how did they get there?
If you grew up on People magazine, eNews, and Perez Hilton then you will love this book. A juicy inside look at what private clubs for the wealthy are like, plus all the behind the scenes machinations. Not a page turner per say, but had my attention and I enjoyed the plot twists and the ending.
I liked this book! It was a great mystery and I loved all the characters and the setting. I didn’t figure out the ending until I read it and I appreciate that in a thriller.
