This had so much to offer but slightly just missed the mark for me. I tried to enjoy it but it had so many characters to keep up with and such long chapters I barely made it thru.
*Thank you NetGalley for providing this for my honest opinion.
Honestly, really wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I really had a hard time getting into it.
I love the plot of the book and all the characters seem very different and enjoyable to learn about.
I wish I enjoyed it more though.
This one was just like meh for me. There were times I was invested and then at other times I could care less.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.
The Club
By Ellery Lloyd
Really going back and forth between 3 and 4⭐️s for this one…
I must say I liked this one A LOT more than People Like Her. I thought this one had lots of good twists and turns. BUT, there were SO many characters and SO many side stories going on. It was a little hard to keep up, but oh well! I literally got to the epilogue and there was a character mentioned and I audibly said “who”?!
This one definitely kept me entertained which is why I’m considering 4⭐️s. I have a bit of whiplash after reading this one for sure.
I was very up and down with this book. I was either very intrigued or I was bored of what was going on. I honestly could have done without a few POVS. The last two hours was my most favorite parts of the book.
I know the POVS were important to the story, but Nikki and Annie just didn't do anything for me. Jess story was the best part of the book, and had a better reason on for why she did what she tried to do.
This was a DNF. I just could not for the life of me get into it. I’ve read good reviews and had it recommended by a friend with similar reading taste to me, but it just was not clicking for me. Maybe I need to try it in a different format (audio?).
This was a slow burn in the beginning. It took me a while to get into it - I think because it read as more of a soapy drama than a thriller/mystery. About halfway through I definitely found myself wanting to see what happened and the story picked up from there.
I think there were too many characters along the way so I didn’t feel extremely invested in any of them. The end has a nice twist too.
Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to provide an honest review.
Ellery Lloyd's People Like Her is a fav of mine. The Club is a bit reminiscent of The Guest List and And Then There Were None. It's a bit slow and the theme's a bit saturated.- keeping this one from also being a fav.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this one with me. All thoughts are my own.
The Club was much soapier than I expected. Set on a remote island at a party for the elite, The Club takes us on a journey of betrayal, blackmail, and intrigue. I wasn't sure who to trust or where the story was even going. At first, I wasn't sold, but a twist about halfway through changed it all for me and I needed to know how it was going to end.
this was a slow start for me, as it felt like a lot of names were thrown at the reader rather quickly without fully explaining who everyone was. additionally, the groundwork for setting up the exclusivity of The Club was a bit tedious. once past these hurdles, the pace picks up quickly & i found it difficult to put down. yes, there are some cliched characterizations but the ending was still a surprise.
This book grabbed me right in. I really enjoyed the plot development and characters. Highly recommend this book.
Reminiscent of a Jackie Collins mega drama of the 1980's, The Club has an incredible cast of characters with an absolutely gorgeous backdrop of an amazing luxury resort. So many twists and characters to keep straight - I had no idea about the ending!
This is a new to me author and I have to say I am looking forward to reading more by this author! I loved this book
I really enjoyed this story. Definitely a great read with mystery and suspense. A very good story with an unexcepted ending.
This was very well written and I loved it. There was the right amount of suspenseand thrill! I recommend highly!!!
The Club was an entertaining read, though it took me a while to get into it and a long time to read. It was a little hard to keep all the characters straight, especially in the first half of the book. I didn’t see any of the main plot points coming so it did keep me on my toes!
This was not my favorite - I found myself not caring about most of the characters, and then it's hard to care about what happens to them.
If I could give half stars, I'd give it a 2 1/2. I wanted to love this book, after People Like Her (which was one of the best books I've read this year), but....this just didn't do it for me. No specific reason, I just wasn't sucked in right away. It did get better halfway through, when the twists really started being revealed. I like the way these authors drop their twists at the end of chapters too. It makes me want to keep reading. I remember the same style from their previous book.
Did not end up finishing this one, but just wasn’t in the right mood. May try to pick up again at a later time.
The Club by Ellery Lloyd was at great book club book. I enjoyed the story line and characters. I enjoyed reading this book.
