“Our love is woven into the fabric of our lives; it’s not some puffed-up fantasy built on shaky ground.”
Do you ever read the description of a book and know you MUST have it. That was this book for me. A Jewish grandmother who can predict when you will meet your bashert (Yiddish for destiny/soul mate)? I’M IN. To give you just a tiny bit more info: Edie’s grandmother Gloria has visions of the day her family members will meet their match. She’s never been wrong. Edie has been waiting for her day for at least half her life and it has finally arrived. But finding her match comes with more complications than she ever expected.
Do you even need my review? You’re sold, right? I’m just a sucker for romance books that are so much more than the romance itself. Ones with a little bit of magic that make me contemplate life and love and fate. Rebecca Serle’s books are what usually come to mind. Take her books, throw in some Judaism, and you have Meant To Be Mine.
This book has so so much to love. Fashion. Family. Friendships. What it means to feel Jewish. The absolute best Jewish grandmother. In the “Dear Reader” section, Hannah even mentions all the ways this book is essentially a love letter to her own grandparents, including little pieces of them. Our fictional grandmother, Gloria could not be better. For instance, her name is actually Gladys but she goes by Gloria just because she likes it better.
This is the type of book I could go on all day writing about but I’ll refrain. Just pick it up and see for yourself.
A sweet and cute fun love story to throw in your pool bag this summer.
Seemed a bit predictable and slow moving but still enjoyed it.
I appreciated how inventive this romcom was. The storyline was fresh, and I truly didn't know where it was going. I also adored the close bonds our MC had with her sister and grandmother.
While you could technically classify this as an HEA read, 90% of it was angsty. I was concerned for Edie's happiness basically the whole time. I appreciate the question of fate vs. choice, but it was stressful along the way. It's a worthwhile read, but not a relaxing/light one (for me).
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley; all thoughts are my own.
Due to her grandmother’s prophecy, Edie is fated on find love on a specific day. And when she meets a guy on that day and sparks with him, she knows she’s found the one. But is her new boyfriend actually the one?
I liked this book (3 stars is a like in my book). This story was cute and endearing. Grandma Gloria is awesome and a great character. I liked Edie and her journey to figure out what “meant to be” really means.
I loved the depiction of NYC. It really is a secondary character. The vibrancy that Orenstein brings to her city descriptions speaks to her love for it. I actually read it while I was NYC and as a former resident, loved all the references.
It was a closed door romance, so be warned if you like spice.
I ate this stuff up, it was so freaking good. This was my second Orenstein read after Head Over Heels and it was chef's kiss perfection!!
Can true love be predicted or will it find you in a place you least expect? Is the man you thought was a dream your happily ever after? Turn the page and find out for yourself, you will thank me!

Ok this book was not quite what I had expected! I have really enjoyed this author’s other works and was excited for the unique concept of this one.
I will say the pacing of this one was a bit odd to me. The major conflict point didn’t happen until about 60% through and even then the story didn’t really pick up until abut 70% through. The characters were really easy to root for and understand, but I kind of wish there was more of a villain to dislike and add a bit more conflict.
Overall definitely enjoyable and would recommend!
I loved the premise here of a fated romance, and I knew there'd be some sort of twist because a romance is never that easy, but I didn't expect where the curveball came from which made the whole experience and resolution that much more enjoyable. A refreshing take on a rom com that I'd recommend to all lovers of the genre.
What if you knew the exact date you would meet the love of your life? This unique premise of Hannah Orenstein’s new contemporary romance Meant to Be Mine really intrigued me. The story follows Edie Meyers, a young woman who thinks she will meet her true love on June 24, 2022. Why? Because starting with her own true love, Edie’s grandma Gloria has been able to accurately predict the day every member of their family has met their soul mate.
We meet Edie, a Jewish stylist living in New York, on the morning of this fateful June day. She is at the airport catching a flight to Maine and Edie is already on the hunt for the man she is meant to spend her life with. She scopes out everyone and when a handsome musician named Theo ends up with the seat next to hers on the plane, she just knows that Theo is the one. Or is he? Edie ends up making the first move and as the two of them get to know each other over the next few months, even though Edie really likes Theo, she has nagging doubts about whether the two of them would really work as a couple because they don’t seem to really want the same things in life.
I found Edie to be a very sympathetic character. I couldn’t imagine how I would act or what I would think if I was in her shoes. She has no reason to doubt the date her grandmother has given her based on Gloria’s track record, but should it be so hard to make things work with the one you’re meant to be with? I also liked that Edie is clearly a flawed and messy character. She tries so hard to force Theo to fit into her life and there are definitely some awkward, almost cringeworthy moments along the way. But it’s easy to understand why she’s trying so hard and why she’s so confused based on what she has been told her entire life. I also loved watching Edie interact with her quirky grandmother and with her amazing friend group.
I will say that as much as I enjoyed Meant to Be Mine, I did predict pretty early on how things would turn out for Edie. I still enjoyed watching Edie’s journey to get to that ending, but I couldn’t help but wish that I hadn’t guessed it so soon. Obviously I would have been much more annoyed if this was a thriller and the ending was that easy to guess, but I’ll let it slide since this is a romance.
Overall, I’d say Meant to Be Mine is a solid read with a unique premise and relatable characters that left me wondering, based on Edie’s experience, if I would want to know the exact date I’d meet the person I was meant to spend my life with.
Unfortunately this one was not for me. I love the premise which is why I requested it. It just fell flat for me and the MC was annoying.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for my e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
Absolutely everything I need and more!! This book brought me a glimmer of hope in a time where I thought they could be known (in a love way!) If you were wondering if you will ever find the one for worrying about what your future should look like please read this book, it offers a great story about love and how sometimes the person that you’re supposed to be with is right in front of your eyes!!
🛫 Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🛫
Edie Meyer has tried to plan her entire life down to the date. She’s even planned out and thought about the date she will meet the love of her life. Her grandmother, Gloria, has a special ability to be able to tell others when they’ll meet the love of their life and has never been wrong, as far as Edie knows. When Edie’s date finally rolls around, she is on high alert and pays very close attention to every encounter she has.
While traveling to see her twin sister, Rae, Edie meets a handsome musician, Theo, who peaks her interest but is he the one Gloria has predicted for her?
There are many things I really enjoyed about this novel. I loved the concept of the storyline and it is what initially peaked my interest. The family dynamic was so sweet and you could really tell how close they were, especially Gloria and Edie. I also always love when there’s a strong sister bond and we really got to see that with Rae and Edie.
I enjoyed Edie’s character overall and I loved seeing her character develop as she goes through the journey of trying to find her soulmate. I felt like I was right there with Edie as she was trying to find her match and figure out if Theo was truly the one for her.
The banter between the characters was so humorous, sarcastic, and sweet. Theo and Edie’s interactions were some of my favorite, but I do wish there was more interactions between Edie and a few other characters (not trying to give spoilers).
Overall, I thought this book was really cute and I really enjoyed it. The ending did leave me with some questions, but I think that also ties in with having more interactions with Edie and other characters explored.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a fun and enjoyable read. Plausible storyline and a bit predictable but all in all is a fun summer read.
Thank you to #netgalley and #atria for allowing me to read the eARC of this book. All opinions expressed above are my own
I love to premise of this book and found it funny, sexy, and totally entertaining. A delightful read, one that I've been telling people about online now for weeks.
I adored this story. I found the plot quite relatable and I could see it drawing a lot of readers in. There’s so much pressure to find love and not being alone these days. I liked the important message of being happy and not settling. I also really liked the Jewish representation in the book, that always makes me happy to see.
I have read all of Hannah’s books and this might be my new fav. It was predictable in the way that a lot of romances are, but the fate based premise was SO fun and I absolutely loved the ending!
Edie Meyer has known the say that she would meet the love of her life since she was sixteen. Her grandmother had predicted the day every member of her family would meet their soul mate. When that day finally arrives, a cute musician sits next to her on a plane. Is this her soulmate?
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was a cute spin on finding your match. I loved Edie’s relationship with her grandmother, Gloria.

#MeantToBeMine:
“I know I’m going to fall for him. I don’t have a choice, but that’s not the result of the prophecy. I don’t think anyone has a choice. You like someone, you love someone, and that’s it—logic switches off. You want who you want.
Meant to be Mine was a sweet, light-hearted read about believing in the unbelievable and all about family values. The audio was great and it was just a fun read to get through the week.
Edie, our MC knows the day she’s going to meet her soulmate. Her grandma, Gloria, Has these “visions” of what day people meet their soulmate, and let’s everyone know. Edie’s is June 24, 2022. She meets Theo on the plane and knows he’s the one. As their relationship grows, you start to wonder if she’s trying to smash a square piece into the circle slot, when a circle piece would fit just fine. She’s become obsessive of this date, and at one point I said, “I get it! 6/24, this guy, this date!” But honestly, if it were me, I’d be a little excessive too.
I loved how close her family was. They were all closer because of this bond of magical meet cute dates, but they were all so different and fun. You can tell the author, Hannah Orenstein wrote the family out of love, as she writes in her author’s note that a lot of the stories have nods to the real life love stories from her family. That familial love bursts off the pages, and you could tell it came from her heart.
Erin Ruth Walker is the reader and did a wonderful job. It was paced well and she really gave me all the Edie I needed. I felt her voice was very calming and I could listen to it all day. Lastly, the very end scene. was absolutely wonderful. It was a bit surprising and was so cute. It was the little bow you expect on a story like this.
Thank you so much @simon.audio and @atriabooks for the gifted copy. Meant to Be Mine is out now!
QOTD: Would you want to know what date you’d meet your soulmate? What about the date you die?
I really enjoyed this book, the journey that Edie faced with trusting her heart, fate and her grandmother.
The story was cute but the writing dragged and was kind of boring. Loved the scenes depicting New York though.
This was SUCH a fun read - it came highly reviewed and it definitely lived up to the hype. It was predictable, but honestly if you're looking for a fun, summer read - look no further! Can't wait to see what Hannah writes next as I'm a big fan of her books. Thanks NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC of this one!
