Featuring ~ single 1st person POV, slow burn, no steamage, political talk
June 24th is the day and Edie thinks it could be fate that the man sitting next to her on the plane is her one true love. Could he be the one she's been waiting for? You'll have to wait an awfully long time to find out.
This has an interesting and unique premise, but it puts a lot of pressure on how you think your life should play out. I do believe in soulmates and the one and whatnot, but I felt like it really consumed Edie's life and that's all she could think or talk about.
I enjoyed Edie's relationship with her family, especially grandma, Gloria.
Overall, this was a decent read, but I'm not sure how I feel about the ending.
I was able to listen to the final version on audio, as well, so I went back and forth between the two and either format worked out fine. It was narrated by Erin Ruth Walker for 9 hours and 33 minutes, easy to follow at 2-2.5x. She did a fine job.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an ARC of ‘Meant to be Mine’ by Hannah Orenstein.
3 stars! Honestly, it took me a little while to really get into this book. I think I had super high hopes from the premise (such a sweet idea!).
Edie’s (very charming) Grandma has a special gift… predicting the day her family members will meet their soul mates. Edie has counted down the moments to this day for a good portion of her life, so when she meets a handsome guy on a flight she KNOWS he is the one.
You will follow Edie throughout this book facing tough questions and situations that make her reevaluate many aspects of her life.
If you are looking for a light, quick read, this is for you!
I am a big fan of Hannah Orenstein. She created such a unique concept of finding love within this story that kept me wanting, even needing, to read the next page.

If there is one thing I struggle with when reading is characters who are indecisive. Maybe it's because I am very indecisive so when I see others showing the same trait it reminds me of my shortcomings? I honestly don't know, but it's always a pet peeve of mine when an MC can't make up her mind. I also do not understand characters who seemingly drop everything for the chance romantic encounter or because she didn't feel that aligned for her 'destiny' - I know, I know I sound like such a cynic but here I am.
What I did love about Meant to Be Mine were the slew of supporting characters - I'd love to have read more about them as I think they added so much more to the story. I would love to read a book that focuses on their lives next - I think that would be a perfect seque into a different book.
Overall, this was a fun book to read and provided just enough lighthearted moments to keep me interested. I would definitely recommend reading the next Hannah Orenstein book as I think she shows a lot of promise.
This was my first Hannah Orenstein book and it was a charming light read. That being said I feel something was missing for me I didn't connect with the characters.
Love the author and the premise was really promising, but execution was a little disappointing. Plot didn't drive much forward, and the writing was distracting.
This was a fun book and a wonderful premise. Loved the characters and it was an easy read with a good ending.
3.5 stars I wanted to love this one more than I did. I love the Jewish rep and love the story but some parts just didn't connect for me. Thanks to Atria for the arc for my honest review.
I’ve followed Hannah Orenstein on Instagram for years. This is the first novel I read, and I wasn’t disappointed. I great rom com with witty banter and characters you want to root for. Some parts were too “wrapped up in a bow” - but overall a great read.
I really wanted to love this. Edie was so unlikeable. The concept sounded great but the execution was not it for me. I hated how much she tried to force herself to be with Theo because she thought it was destiny. I hate how often she talked about her ex. This book was basically her just talking to herself about how she needs to be with Theo and comparing him to her ex. Maybe you will love this. I needed more. So much of this was focused on the wrong guy. I enjoyed the one male character. He was the best.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Atria Books for the gifted e-book! ❤️
I wanted to love this book as I have loved her previous books but I just could not get into this book. I have tried to read it multiple times and I just kept putting it down and not picking it back up. The pacing was very off for me and I did not enjoy the writing style.
I wanted to love this! The premise was fun and I had high hopes for how the story would unfold. Unfortunately, I had a hard time getting through this one and almost DNF'd it. We spent a lot of time with the wrong guy, and once we got to the right guy, the story was really developed out. Bummer!

I definitely enjoyed this one, but not my favorite of Hannah Orenstein's. Edie felt forced into relationships based on a prophecy from her grandmother, and in turn found out that the prophecy wasn't even fully real. I couldn't get over one key point of the book that was difficult to get past - telling her boyfriend about the prophecy so early on in the relationship. It's cutely written, and I love Hannah's books, but I would recommend another over this one.
I love Hannah Orensteins writing. She had a distinct style but the plots never feel repetitive. I can’t recommend this one enough!!
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for a review. This novel released on June 7, 2022.

Synopsis: Grandma Gloria has a special gift. She can predict the exact date for when everyone in her family will meet their soulmate. Main character Edie knows her date is June 24 2022. On the day she has been waiting for, she meets a charming man while on an airplane. But is destiny all it's cracked up to be? Will what’s “meant to be” actually end up being the situation that causes Edie to question everything she thinks she has been waiting on?
Thoughts: Hannah Orenstein is now an auto-read author for me. I have loved every book I have read of hers. This book has so much heart– it had me laughing, rooting for Edie, and truly invested in each of the characters’ journeys. If you love a sweet, thoughtful, plot driven romance…this is the book for you! I actually think this book would make a great movie!
For Fans of: Romantic comedies, love stories with a twist, books with a pinch of magic thrown in, and books where characters question everything they thought life “should be.”
This was a great quick read. Edie Myers' grandma. Her grandma has had visions of every family member meeting their soulmate, including Edie's. While on a trip to her sister's engagement party she meets a musician and knows he is her intended soulmate. Fate comes with complications though and she starts to wonder if her soulmate has shown up at the wrong time. A tragedy followed by a shocking revelation changes her perspective and makes her wonder if love finds people or do they find it themselves. Overall it was a great light read and I like the premise of the story: whether love is based on fate or whether we find it on our own. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.
Thank you for the advanced copy of this book! I will be posting my review on social media, to include Instagram, Amazon, Goodreads, and Instagram!
I can not even begin to describe how much I loved this book, the entire time I was reading it I was like omg I honestly hope she ends up with Bennet… and she did! When I tell you this made me cry in a good way I’m dead serious. This book touched so many real life scenarios and emotions that are so important and should be normalized more. 100% will recommend to anyone!
I will post my full review for this book on my Instagram within the next week!
Meant to be Mine by Hannah Orenstein
If you could know the exact day you would meet your true love...would you want to know?
Edie's Grandmother Gloria has a special gift, she can predict down to the day, when the women in her life will meet the love of their life. Edie has been waiting her whole life for this day- even ending successful relationships to be ready to meet her true love. When Edie meets Theo on "the day" things fall right into place...but is it too good to be true?
I absolutely loved the concept of this romance novel. Edie is such a fun character, she is so ready to fall in love and has complete trust in her grandmother's abilities. She is super close with Gloria and has seen the true loves of the women around her be successfully predicted.
This book asks the question...can you trust fate? At what point do you need to trust your gut and go for the love you want...not the love you were promised.
I really enjoyed this novel. It was a fresh take on meeting "the one" and I was once again charmed by Hannah Orenstein. I really think this would make a great book club book- lots to unpack on this subject.
Orenstein is an auto read author for me at this point. I've loved everything I've read from her and will continue to read her novels.
