I have reached the stage in life when I am all for charcuterie boards in all of their forms. I used to always want to do appetizer spreads for holidays, thinking they would be fun and easy, but they are never easy or fun for the person putting them together. Throwing something on a board? I'm in. Dessert Boards has some great in spiration photos for putting together dessert boards for your family and/or friends. I wouldn't necessarily purchase the book, but if I saw it at the library I would pick it up.

A really interesting concept, had never thought of a dessert board before reading this book, looking forward to try out some of the ideas
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NG for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. I requested this dessert board book alongside another food board book. These are really popular at the moment, and while I would like to make these, I don't have the innate creativity to make them. So, I wanted guides/tips and visual examples. I think it's easier to look at a collection like this instead of searching through lots of Pinterest boards or read through long articles.
Anyway, this book is about 50-ish dessert boards that can be made for gatherings. They are kid/family friendly and some are themed. They feature different types of treats like bars, cookies, shortbreads, cakes, mini pies, fruit, candies, etc. There are different ideas like breakfast, game day/sports, awards night, valentines / sweethearts, holidays, birthdays, etc. There are also boards that include healthier sweets like fruit, yogurt, granola, etc. They claim to be suitable for bakers from scratch and store bought items.
Ultimately, I agree with everything above -- this book provides a lot of cool ideas and beautiful layout inspirations. I think the most important thing for this book for me was the visuals & explaining instructions like I'm just not.... very creative. Hahah! I am glad to have looked through this and gained some helpful knowledge I'd like to try out someday.
The art in this book is beautiful. It makes you want to eat the different boards that you see. There were all kinds of boards to make, everything from breakfast boards to movie night boards. Everything you need to create these is included even down to how to transport them safely. The book separates the store bought items from the homemade ones. What is nice is that the homemade items are included in the back of the book instead of with the actual boards. I like that because if you feel like you are not able to make something you can easily replace it with your favorite recipe or a store bought item.
I was disappointed with this. Most of the recipes used previously store-bought components, which is fine, but for using pre-made foods I expected the recipes and the book in general to have a lot more information about how to place or compose the items to make it look good and be easy to eat. the photos were pretty, but I felt underwhelmed.
a great idea. I had never heard of a dessert board until when I got this book. They certainly look exciting and there are some fab ideas
Drool worthy modern and up to date publication of tasty treats.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this book in exchange for my feedback.
Very nice and visual of different boards for different occasions can look like - some variety. For those who like entertaining.
This is an interesting idea. These boards would be a good way to take treats to church that look good, but don't leave you with a dozen more cookies than you want to eat. They are beautiful and would be easy to adapt to what you already have. My only complaint would be that in some areas it might be hard to duplicate what's in the book exactly because of some of the items not being available. However, that's a small problem if you have the slightest bit of imagination.
Desserts with a decorative board to share with family and friends just in time for the holidays.
What did I like? Obviously this is more of a decorative book rather than recipe since most items can be bought just need to arrange them in an enticing manner. Still if your looking for that arrangement feel this book certainly helps.
Would I recommend or buy? If your into this type of design for holidays I’m sure owning a copy is a great idea. I’m sure though you can pick up as many ideas free on the web too. I like the idea but mostly do a potluck at most of our get togethers. Four stars!
I received a complimentary copy to look at and voluntarily left a review!
Dessert boards are all kinds of awesome. But let's be honest - creating them isn't exactly rocket science. Find your favourite treats, and make them look pretty on a tray/platter/plate.
Be that as it may, this book was a sumptious, visual delight. The boards themselves aren't exactly complex, but they are a nice design guide for those who might need a little help in that regard. There were a few good ideas, such as using shaped cookie cutters as retaining walls, the caramel apples, the dipping boards or the decorating boards, but on the whole, it's not reinventing the wheel.
Most of the items in these boards are store bought, but it wouldn't be difficult to substitute home-made items instead. And while it IS a book about desserts, there are a heck of a lot of lollies (candy) included that could similarly be substituted for healthier options. There are some basic recipes included in the back, but this is not a cook book. It's an inspiration book.
~Many thanks to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
I love the concept of this book, but the premise of buying most of the items kinda stinks. I know this is not a cook book more of a design book.
If you are clueless on how to arrange things then this would be a good place to start. If you already have some experience this might not be the book for you.
Unfortunately I didn't make it through the entire book before it got archived so this review is a little incomplete.
What I saw however, I liked.
To be completely honest, the recipes aren't necessarily new (at least to me, but then I love food boards so I read a lot of these) but I mainly took inspiration from the combinations and layouts which worked great.
Some of the boards were easy to adapt to other shapes as well which is always helpful.
There are some really great ideas for dessert boards in this book. I love all of the beautiful pictures that are included so you can see how the boards are arranged. I really like the ideas for movie night and after school, and the holiday boards as well. I will definitely be utilizing this book often for fun dessert boards!
It's a pretty book, full of ideas for dessert boards. I like most of them but I usually like boards that are completely full of items instead of having some gaps between the snacks. They all look simple and easy to make, Great for beginners. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
Pros: I’ve recently read several books and articles about charcuterie boards, but I was thrilled to see a book devoted to dessert boards! Desserts often seem to be overlooked in the charcuterie world, and, as this book shows, there are so many opportunities to feature desserts on boards. I appreciate books like this one that feature many photographs because I am someone who needs to see a guide so that I can replicate an idea—making something look presentable is not one of my gifts. My favorite section of this book was the around-the-world section—I love when books feel inclusive and feature many cultures’ foods. I also thought the cupcake and cookie decorating boards were a brilliant idea that could be used at any holiday (or just a normal day) to keep family and friends of all ages occupied with an activity and a snack. The board I most wish I were eating as I read this book is the chocolate and cheese pairing board—yum!
Cons: None that I can think of.

More than 50 dessert charcuterie board ideas inside! Oh my goodness, so many incredible ideas.
This book has all you'll need to set up a beautiful dessert board. So many ideas, recipes, photos, where to place items, how to get started. There is a lot of information packed in this book. I was happy to see a lot of beautiful, color photos -- and each board has a listing of exactly what is on there. There are some really good recipes included to enhance your dessert boards. It's for epic party planning or for every day gatherings.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.
Admittedly I was expecting a bit more from this book…
It’s not that the boards looked bad, nor that they weren’t creative, but they really just weren’t that appealing. There were hardly any unique recipes in this book to make the boards standout (like most recipes in the book are for chocolate covered _____). Pretty much all of the boards were just filled with a bunch of store bought baked goods, cakes, candy, cookies, etc. Now I’m not saying that pre-made food is a bad thing, but it just made the boards feel a little bland because there wasn’t something fresh on most of them. That said, while the thought of a board filled with a bunch of prepackaged foods didn’t really appeal to me, there is something to be said about the relative ease with which some of these could come together.
Besides that however, some of the boards were quite nice and I would definitely make them! The dessert nacho board, caramel apple dipping board, s’mores board, chocolate dipping board, and movie night board were some of the big standouts to me. I also appreciate the pictures that accompany each board, and while I will say that many of the boards don’t totally blow me away, they are great inspiration points for you to take things even further. All that being said, this books not bad. I didn’t find it stellar, but it definitely has its merit.

Charcuterie boards are all the rage these days, but we usually associate them with meats and cheeses, not dessert. This book is a fun take on the tasty trend. There are some really fun boards in this book! The breakfast section features a coffee bar, tea time tray, and a yogurt parfait board. Cute boards aboud in the holiday section. The Around the World chapter features candy sushi and dessert nachos. The Family Friendly section contians boards for caramel apples, and cupcake & cookie decorating. There also a few celebration-themed boards and an anytime chapter for things that didn't fit in other categories. Lots of different types of trays were used as charcuterie boards, too which made it feel more flexible and fun. These dessert boards are perfect for a night of entertaining or just a quiet night in with the immediate family.
This book is pretty great. It has a quick and simple intro, some cookbooks spend too long talking about all the things you need before getting to the good stuff. It has the dessert board options sorted into categories which is helpful. Most of the dessert board ideas are all items you can purchase from the store and not many involve items that you need to make which is nice. All of these ideas could be found online but it's also nice to have them collected in one book to be able to refer to flip through for inspiration. I think a lot of these would be great for parties or fun get togethers of all kinds.
