The best word to describe this book is ‘unremarkable’. It wasn’t particularly well-written and the whole story was slow and predictable, with clumsy red-herrings all over the place. I listened to the audio version and the narration was as mediocre.

An intriguing and thrilling story told from the perspective of Georgie (the new wife's mother-in-law). There are so many twists and turns in this story that I did not guess the ending - I kept changing my mind. Skillfully plotted, Georgie's narration meant you only got to know the characters from her (at times) prejudiced point of view.

This is a story about families and makes you question what you really know about each other. I think George was quite judgemental and naive at times, particularly blinkered about her son, Sam. I think I would have been quite annoyed at some of his responses to her.

I liked the narrator on this audio book and think the story was well paced.

Wow, what a rollercoaster this domestic thriller was! I started with the ebook and finished with the audio narration and thoroughly enjoyed both versions. I was so absorbed into this story that I realized I wasn't even paying attention to what I was doing in real life! The characters in this are just so fascinating. The author does an excellent job of confusing you on who could be guilty that by the end I was completely shocked. I felt for each of the parents and really didn't know who to believe up until the end. I can't imagine how tough this situation would be in real life and I thought Sue Watson did a great job of showing how difficult it would be to navigate between two families. It was definitely a bit unbelievable at the end but I still really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more from Sue Watson. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Clever plot twist and a real page turner of a book! I’ve not read anything by this author before but thoroughly enjoyed this one - definitely a thrilling thriller with a ‘why’ as well as a ‘who’ to discover.

With a full cast of likeable yet shady characters readers will have a heck of a time trying to uncover everyone’s true identities and motives as secret after secret comes to light. Watson’s narrative begs readers to consider just how well they know the ones they love, what lies do we tell to ourselves and others, and when is it finally time to just come clean?

4 Stars for this entertaining yet predictable read.

The new wife by Sue Watson is a domestic thriller. Written from Georgie's perspective she tells the reader of how proud she is of her son and new daughter in law, Sam and Lauren. They are doing well for themselves, new house in the country, good jobs doing what they enjoy and only 4 months married before the fairytale ends. Sam comes home to find Lauren at the bottom of their grand staircase, dead. With a small cast of characters we must know the killer well, but the motive is well hidden. Georgie is desperate to save Sam from taking the blame for this, but Lauren's family have other ideas.
The plot is good with lots of little red herrings thrown in, it is very finale focused. The characters are believable, I didn't particularly like Georgie she was very wet and dramatic about everything she saw. Sadie, was Lauren's best friend and getting close to Sam now, I liked her she was straight talking, a little abrasive but a more interesting character. The narrator, Tamsin Kennard was very good mixing up some west country accents for the Devon setting.
I liked the plot, enjoyed the characters, it did drag a little in the middle with a lot of repetition and not much moving forward but overall worth listening too. 3.5*

The New Wife tells the story of Sam and his new wife, Lauren, through Sam's moms POV. Lauren and Sam grew up together, starting in their daycare/preschool years and have been together since. When a terrible accident happens and Lauren ends up dead, a mother will do whatever she needs to in order to make sure her son is safe. Lauren was the perfect person, so who would want to murder her?

A creepy thriller that had you guessing the whole time! I thought I some idea of who might have been involved in the murder. But then I realized I had no clue what was happening!

The narrator for this book made it easy to feel like someone was really telling you a story and you could see it all before your eyes as you listened.

There were some plot twists in this book that I did not see coming! I think the last twist really pulled the book together for me and helped to make it better. 5 🌟!

I'd like to say a huge thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Sue Watson’s The New Wife moves along at the perfect “who done it” pace. A murder mystery with enough characters, twists, and secrets to keep you guessing through to the end. I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Thank You Net Galley for the preview opportunity.

Fast, Gripping and Mind- Blowing..................................

What a fantastic thriller by Sue Watson. The book, The New Wife got me head over heels and is absolutely a page- turner. The plot hooks you up right from the beginning. Also, the climax is totally unpredictable. And, the most amazing thing about the story is that each and every character is under suspicion. With every turn the plot brings up a new mystery which makes it more interesting.

I would definitely give the book 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The story was gripping and really took me in. It was well written and well narrated.
The narrating character started to wear on my nerves. She is very ‘me me me’ and, a lot of the time, she seems to have zero compassion for her grieving friends. Throughout the story there were parts that really angered me. Initially I had thought this would ruin it for me but in all honesty, I enjoyed the story that much that I probably would read/listen to it again, despite how deplorable I find Georgie at times.

Listened to this on audio. Loved the story and the narrator. Listened to it whilst out walking or in the car and it kept me entertained from start to finish. Enjoyed the twists along the way. The outcome wasn't what I was expecting. I need to read more books by this author.

A riveting mystery set in England, where a single mother is troubled by the sudden death of her daughter-in-law. When it's determined to be murder and her son is arrested, she's even more determined to find the real killer. In this novel, everyone seems to have secrets, making it difficult to determine the real killer in advance of the ending! That's why I'm giving this 5 stars--it held my attention to the end. Great characters, each with flaws that make them realistic. Good narration.

Thank you Netgalley for an Audio ARC of The New Wife in exchange for an honest review.

Georgie could not have been more excited her beautiful son Sam had married his childhood sweet heart, Lauren. She had been best friends with Lauren's parents, Helen and Tim Jackson, since their kids met in preschool and the union was what these mom's had been dreaming about forever. Sam and Lauren had recently moved into a stunning cottage on the Dartmoor plain with a dizzying staircase at its entrance. Everything was perfect, until the phone rang at two a.m. with Sam saying he had found Laruen at the bottom of the staircase...dead. The two families are heartbroken, her son has withdrawn and her best friends are devastated beyond words but things are about to become even worse when the police rule the death a homicide. Secrets revealed, fingers pointed and long held animosities will break these friends to their core.

Sue Watson tells a fun whodunnit story with twist and turns as Georgie's suspicions of who murdered her daughter-in-law shift with each new insight. The characters are pretty well developed and have enough hidden secrets to keep the storyline moving with limited action. The end was a little anticlimactic but overall a good mystery thriller. I had the audio version read by Tamsin Kennard who does an excellent job and would love to hear more of her works.

This is a fantastic read. I loved it so much I just couldn't put it down.  This is a real edge of your seat novel that you won't be able to put down.  I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator was brilliant adding so much atmosphere and tension to the novel. I was left tingling waiting to see what happened next.  This book is packed full of twists and turns that will constantly surprise you. The author gives you just enough information to make you think you know the characters.  You will love the characters believing you think you will know what happens next but do you ? This style of writing really does create so much anticipation with I loved. I really enjoyed the constant challenge of working out who did it. I became so immersed in the story i lost track of time.
The ending there is only one word to describe it... WOW! I just know you are going to like this book just as much as I did. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author in the future.
So much praise goes out to the author and publishing team for producing such a gripping,  edge of your seat, page turning so full of tension epic read. Interesting but not really my cup of tea. Well written I just personally couldn’t get into the story. Wrongly accused for murder while the true murderer runs free. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Sipping thoughts: This book kept my interest. I kept trying to figure out who killed Lauren. I thought I had it figured out the whole book and even thought the “reveal” would be overturned in the epilogue. I was so wrong, but I wasn’t sold on the real killer.

Sipping synopsis in seconds: Dead body. So many suspects. Lies. Old secrets revealed. Hmm is someone I didn’t expect do it. More secrets. More lies. Reveal. OMG, that is the killer?! Epilogue.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @BookoutureAudio and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @TheNewWife.

Very good audio! This thriller kept me engaged and guessing! The synopsis says it all!
You can never truly know what goes on behind closed doors…

My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying ‘I do’ to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.

But weeks later, Lauren is dead and police cars fill the driveway of their idyllic countryside home. As they question Sam, I sense he’s hiding something. Why won’t he look me in the eye? And who does he rush off to meet as soon as the police are gone?

Desperate, I do what every good mother would do: I let myself into Sam and Lauren’s bedroom. What I see, I will never be able to forget. My son’s beautiful new wife was hiding a dangerous secret. Can I clear my son’s name? And could my life be in danger now too?
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy!

I LOVE domestic thrillers, but I just couldnt care much for these characters. The son no apparent feelings for his newlywed wife, for me, it was just, an ODD story, full of characters I never got to know enough to care about why they acted so WEIRDLY.
