In Marianna Dubuc's Bear and the Whisper of the Wind, Bear leaves how to discover what is out there, guided by the gentle whisper of wind. The journey may feel uncertain, but that's okay. We don't always know what we are looking for, but when Bear does find it, he settles back down. Sweet illustrations accompany this story and add to the whimsical nature. Best suited for toddlers.
'Bear and the Whisper of the Wind' with words and pictures by Marianne Dubuc is a picture book about a bear with a seemingly idyllic life who feels the need to find more.
Bear is happy in his home with his friends and eating strawberry pie. That is until the day the wind whispers to him and calls him on. He isn't sure what he is looking for and even finds new friends, but he knows he will know it when he finds it.
I liked this very different story for children about understanding yourself enough to trust your instincts. It has a wistfulness that is quiet and contemplative. The illustrations are very nice and fit the mood and flow of the story.

I really liked the illustrations and so did my kids. It was a nice little story about following your heart and believing.
This is a cute story about a bear who feels a need for some change. He meets some friends along the way, second guesses leaving his home, and you feel pretty sad for him at a point. It has a happy ending. Cozy illustrations.
I thought the illustrations were great. The story was different; bear is restless and feels compelled to make a change. I don't know if children will understand the book but I think they will enjoy the story.
Thank you to the Princeton Architectural Press and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this wonderful book. This is a story of discovery and adventure as bear follows the whisper of the wind to find a new home in an unknown place. Beautiful illustrations and simple language would appeal to children of any age, and the theme of change is relatable to anyone.
This sweet story will appeal to children who are wary of change. It tells the tale of a bear who realizes it's time to move on and experience more of life. The message was, undoubtedly, a good one and sure to appeal to those young readers who might welcome life progressing but don't quite know how to accept it. However, I did find the story a bit confusing.
The illustrations were lovely.
A sweet story of Bear who feels the urge to leave his comfortable home and move somewhere else. At first it's overwhelming being in the forest alone but Bear finally finds a new place to belong. The illustrations are beautiful- I love the use of some pages being wordless to keep the story moving with just the pictures. A great book to teach children that moving somewhere new isn't always a bad thing.
Who among us hasn’t gotten restless at some point in our lives. Thought about just picking up and setting off to see the world . . . or at least to see something new. For Bear, feeling restless is more than just a feeling. It’s a calling. The wind calling. And when it calls to him, he has no choice. He knows its time to move on, even if he’s very happy in his cozy house, eating his favorite things. And so it is that Bear leaves behind his life, wondering if it’s the right thing to do, but knowing he has no choice, and follows the call of the wind to the new life waiting for him.
A beautiful book about following your path, even if you’re not sure where it’s going to lead you, Bear and the Whisper of the Wind by Marianne Dubuc is a delight to read. It travels along lightly, like a leaf on the wind, carrying the reader along on the journey. Though at times we feel bad for Bear, who has left his whole world behind, the story is an uplifting one, reminding us that there is always something new and amazing waiting for us, if we just dare to go find it!
This book as confusing. I didn’t get the point of bear leaving his home. It’s like an opposite Wizard of Oz. The illustrations are great but I can’t recommend the story.
This is a very unique story about a bear who embarks on a journey to find a new home. He follows “the whisper of the wind” and it takes him on an adventure where he meets new friends and tries new things. This is a story about change and how it can be uncomfortable at first. The illustrations are gorgeous and the book has a calm and cozy feel.
I was very impressed with the illustrations. It reminded me of my childhood.
Bear leaves his home and finds another home with the help of the wind. It is a book of discovery which children will love.
A special thank you to Princeton Architectural Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Sweet book! Gorgeous pictures with rolling landscapes. Lots of a fun but not great for a classroom. The books slow thoughtful pace makes it a nice casual read but not something you’d bring to a read aloud with a young audience.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A very simple story with only a few characters. Not too wordy, so great for storytime and younger kids. The pictures are very colorful and match well with the story.
Such a wonderful book about change and how it can be scary at first, but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel! Bear is happy in his home before.
He’s happy eating strawberry pie, having fun with his friends, and just doing his favorite things. But one day, the wind tells bear he needs to go, it’s time to move on.
The Story was so fun to read and the illustrations were even better! They’re so soft yet I felt like I could imagine being in the forest there with bear.

The art in this is quite beautiful, and I love the focus on nature. However, I thought the end was a bit abrupt/unsatisfying, and it seemed like the messaging of this book was more whimsical/random than a lot of picture books that focus on things like "following the wind"/being restless tend to be. (Wasn't really sure if there WAS a message, which is fine I suppose, but it did seem to suggest a 'wanderlust for wanderlust's sake' moral, which might be a bit odd for a kids' book?)
What a wonderfully sweet story! We follow Bear as the wind guides him away from his current home and onto an adventure and journey to find a new one.
I adored this! The art style was precious and colourful but with a softer palate. The message about finding yourself through adventure and trusting the journey were so great.
I truly hope this inspires not only children but anyone who picks this book up to go on a new adventure— no matter how big or small! Highly recommend this one!
