Thank you so much to NetGalley for sending me a copy of this audiobook! I really enjoyed reading this book. It took me a little bit longer than I expected to get into this book! I would definitely read more by Sarah!
This book was quite an experience, Sarah knows how to take you into her world which is very complete and envelops you in it.
The characters are interesting and so is their background. There were instances where she felt that he couldn't believe what was happening.
Good book and excellent world building.
There is just something about Sarah Cradits characters and worlds that just do it for me. I LOVED this story. I read a lot of fantasy so I find myself a harsher critic, but this had no notes for me. I think that it had every element of a fantasy that I know and love, but with so much more that made it feel unique and very much story a story of its own. Sarah Cradit is truly up there with SJM and Carissa Broadbent for me, and I urge everyone to try out not only this story but just anything ever written by her.
This book had a lot of promise, and I was enjoying it a lot, but it made me realize that fantasy and audiobooks don't work for me. The world building, and all of the characters were a bit overwhelming, but the story was fast-paced and fascinating, a great fantasy epic.
A dark tale with strong characters. As true with many high fantasies, this has a lot to follow. The audiobook was fantastic with a great narrator, however the chapters are still long with the story being plentiful. I'd probably recommended reading this as both the physical book alongside the audio for a truly immersive experience!
I requested this as an audiobook because I find that multi POV is easier for me to follow along with as an audiobook. Especially with a narrator like this one who does different voices/accents for them. I was able to differentiate between the people.
I think I should mention that this is NOT a YA book. I’m not entirely sure why I went into thinking it was but I was wrong. I’m not against darkerish books, throughly enjoy them.
Overall this sorry was great and already have purchased the others to continue the story.
: I requested this as an audiobook because I like audiobooks. The cover and the blurb were promising.
However, most chapters were an hour long. I was begging my attention span to show it some mercy.
The life long chapters did not help me focus at all. I couldn't really remember the names and places, and since this is a fantasy, they were a lot.
There's nothing against the Narrator whatsoever. She was great and her change of accents were top notch.
The reviews have lead me to believe that I'd actually enjoy the book if i had it as a paperback or e-book, so I'll most probably be giving it a second chance.
Thank you @netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review💕
This was a little dark but that doesn't mean I didn't like it lol it reminded me of game of thrones and I will definitely keep an eye out for the next book and have already recommended it to a few people.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it
This audiobook sounded promising. However, I could not really follow it because there were too many characters to keep track. I do think the narrator performed it well. I am very curious to read the book. I recommend this for fans of Kendra Blake!
I did not finish this one because I realized it was release early on. I do have this on my TBR to go back and read
It has been a while since I have read a good high fantasy story reminiscent of Game of Thrones, but this one was actually really good. It was full of strong characters and romances that I could root for. My only really big complaint was that the plot was maybe a little bit difficult to follow, but is usually to be expected with a quality high fantasy read. This book is thoroughly enjoyable and I am really looking forward to the continuation of the series.
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
Before I could finish reading this book it got archived and there's no way I can review a book I didn't finish reading.
There's so much to say. It's easy to get lost in the narration. I could'nt finish it.
Maybe by reading it will be better, but in a audiobook it was too much. I could'nt keep up with the spot and the names. And I'm a reader of A Song of Ice and Fire.
The action is there for sure, but sometimes I can't figure out where and to whom... It's there and there somewhere else. Couldn't keep up.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for my copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The cover attracted me... the summary intrigued me... the author hooked me.
I had a little trouble initially getting into this story, all the characters and places, it was a bit confusing at first, especially over audio. Once I got a better grip on the story I did start to enjoy it much more.
I went into this book thinking it was YA. IT IS NOT. Despite many characters being young, this book had some graphic scenes, most sexual, and few of those consensual. If this is something that really turns you off, is a trigger warning, don't read this book.
This book made me think of Game of Thrones in many ways, varied lands ruled by varied families all ruled by the son of a conqueror King. This new King decides he wants to make brides of all the lordly daughters, in one festive wedding. Alas, no one likes this plan and by one means or the other all the children run away. As the story progresses we follow the children on their varied and often troubled paths to various ends they all hope to find sanctuary. All this running around had a very musical chairs feel to it. At the same time, we also followed along with the children's parents as they planned and plotted.
It wasn't until probably about 2/3rds the way through that I found myself really keeping the characters straight and starting to care for some. In the end, I have mixed feelings, overall I enjoyed the story but have issues wit
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.
I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.
The premise of this book was fun, but there were just too many characters introduced in the first portion of the book. I felt as though I needed to write down their names, and just wasn’t enjoyable. I had to DNF.
Great premise but incredibly difficult to follow as an audiobook due to the high number of characters, places and backstory introduced in the first quarter of the book. Info dumping to world build is super hard to follow when not in print.
This was a really interesting book but so so confusing. There were way too many characters and places introduced in the first 20% of the book. I wouldn't have even known what the book was about if there hadn't been a summary at the beginning. I loved the world and the plot, but was so lost the entire time!
Kimberly M. Wetherell (the narrator) did a fantastic job. She really got into the accents and that helped a lot with distinguishing characters. If there hadn't been 10000 characters to keep track of it would have been perfect. She pulls off a not shabby Irish accent along with a few others which really helped the world feel like an epic place with lots of different lands.
For now I have to put the book down at the 20% mark, but I think I'd like to try it again in the future with a physical copy to help keep track of names and places.
Thanks to Netgalley and OrangeSky Audio for giving me a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I have read and loved other Sarah Cradit books but I’m afraid there were too many characters for me to keep straight right off the bat and the cast continued to grow as we went. The narrator has such a lovely accent that I enjoyed listening to her but I’m afraid I didn’t know which POV we were in at any given time.
If you’re a fan of high fantasy, this could definitely be for you. The twists, the turns, the world building! Some of the violence was far too much for me, I’m afraid.
I received an audiobook copy from Netgalley and Orange Sky Audio in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.
