The mirror visitor series deserved an epic and beautiful ending…. This book was not that. Pacing was all over the place. Underdeveloped Side characters shouldn’t have mattered as much as they did. The confusing “twists” and plot points. All of this could have been forgiven is the ending was absolutely horrible! I’m so incredibly disappointed 😔

Fantastic end to a remarkable series, utterly unique world-building and atmosphere. I feel like this one is going to stay with me for a long time.
Since I received an audiobook arc in English, I switched to English for this last book after slowly making my way through books 1-4 in French audio. I really commend both the translation and the narration of this English edition. Especially in comparison with the French narrator (sorry to them…) this voice actress really shines in terms of her clarity and range of character voices. The accents of the different regions in this world are rendered in different American and English regional accents/dialects, whereas in the French audio some characters spoke French with English and Italian accents (among others). The translation preserves just enough of the sense of idiosyncrasies in the language (a sense of strangeness present also in the French) yet still reads very smoothly. I’d recommend this to any fans of the series!

Honestly, the writing of this book just isn't working for me in the audiobook format. It's not a commentary on the book itself, it's more that the changing narrators and tone is hard to figure out...

An insanely well-done novel. I will admit that I have not read the entire series. What I can say, though, is that I was still completely engrossed in the tale. It took a few chapters to sort everything out since I did not have the background of the previous books, but I was able to listen and enjoy the story from start to finish. Great character development and world-building. I felt like I was in the world the author created and the narrator was marvelous. Rich tones and quality with an uncanny ability to shift tone when necessary for different voices.

I received a copy of this audiobook from Netgalley and Dreamscape Media. All opinions are my own!

For starters, I loved the way that Ophelia and Thorn both grew in this book! Their romance became so sweet and empowering. I loved that they both ended up saving one another, and it wasn't this one-sided relationship where the man does all the saving. They both empowered each other to be the best versions of themselves, and I really loved watching them progress and really discover who they each wanted to become.

I think my biggest issue with the book was that it felt way too long. The first half felt like a waiting game for the second half. And even once the action started, I was still so confused about what was happening that it felt like none of my questions were actually answered. I felt this way about most of the series, but this book felt like one huge lead-up to a very condensed bit of information.

I did love the world that was created and the way that Ophelia's story was so looped into everything!
If you're a fan of fantasy, you'll definitely want to check this series out for yourself!

By book three and now into book four of the YA series by Christelle Dabos I was unhappy with where the story went. Book One and Two were good but with the twist of god and the whole turn lost my attention. Perhaps it could have been because I was listening to the audio version but I found myself having to back it up because I wasn't paying attention. Not my favorite.

Weakest book in the series, and that is coming from someone who thought the last book was nothing special. Over all just disappointing

An intricate world full of action, intrigue and masterful world building. There was never a dull moment. I read this as an audiobook and it was a fun experience with a satisfying end.

The narrator really made the story come alive, bringing the characters to life in their own unique voice and style. I found myself fully immersed in the story.

My only suggestion would be to listen along with a digital or print copy. I feel like there are some details that might be missed with the audiobook alone, that might otherwise be appreciated. Go ahead and make it a full experience.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media who provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and ideas expressed are my own.

This was my least favorite book in the series. This book went much wider in its scope of what was going on in the world and connected everything in the former 3 books. For most of the book, even having read the other three books last year, I was REALLY confused. Many periods of ‘wtf is going on’ and then there would be a big area in the story where everything was laid out in layman terms. This happened at least 2 times. Giant confusing info dump, followed by a dumbed down summary (for less cerebral people like me it seems). You didn’t get a whole lot of time with the characters you came to know and love in the previous books. There was a lot of internal dialogue from Ophelia and several confusing chapters from Victoria. I am personally going to ignore this book in the series and pretend like just the first three are the entire story.

This entire series is beautiful and strange and absolutely entrancing. I am a huge fan of worlds that feel whimsical and fun, much like what Dabos created in this series. It's unlike anything that I have ever read before and I have enjoyed it immensely. I hear the concerns that this feels detached from other parts of the series, and that there are parts that feel too convoluted, but I think that it is the approximate amount of complexity for this highly complicated world that Dabos has created.
I also enjoyed the audiobook that accompanies this book; I personally enjoy reading a book while listening to the audio for maximum content absorption. The narrator for this has a perfect voice for Ophelia, and I can't imagine the character sounding differently. There are no extra bells and whistles to the audio, but there doesn't need to be. The voices are perfect and it still sounds good sped-up, if you enjoy a quicker pace!

First I would like to say I really loved the narrator. I was brought right into the book. The story itself was not like anything I've read before. At times I was confused but still enjoyed it. The ending itself just left me sad.

I absolutely love this series, especially in audiobook form. I listened to books 1-3 on audio book as well, and couldn't wait for the final installment to be released in English. The narrator is fantastic, as well as the whole production. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a review copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review. If we're just going by the audiobook presentation, this one deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite installment of the series. I couldn't stop listening to books 1-3, but book 4 left a lot to be desired for me. I really was holding out hope that Thorn & Ophelie would be able to work together - and while they do - it was really not in the ways I thought they would. I'm also not a fan of open-endings, which is again, a personal preference. Dabos has created one of the most interesting fantasy worlds I've ever fallen into. I just wish the ending was more satisfying. I would still recommend this series to fantasy readers/listeners, but with the caveat that the ending isn't for everyone.

The Storm of Echoes by Christelle Dabos is the fourth and final book in The Mirror Visitor series translated from French. I was lucky to receive an advanced audiobook in exchange for my honest review. Unfortunately, the book was a huge disappointment.

While we get to know several great characters throughout the first three books, many of them are mere cameos in the fourth book. I wanted more Berenilde, Madame Rosaline, and Archibald. We get a fair bit of perspective from Victoria, a nonverbal child with the ability to dream-walk. Because she cannot warn any of the characters about what she's seen, these scenes are used to build tension by giving the readers info that the main characters do not know. I liked this in the third book as it was used more sparingly, but felt it was overused as a plot device now.

Two other things annoyed me before the ending. This book is translated from French, but the translator leaves in a lot of French words, something that wasn't done in the first three books. This gave the book an entirely different mood. Secondly, there is a lot of focus on infertility that seemed incredibly out of place, especially for a YA book. I know the protagonist is now a bit older, probably 20-21 but when facing the destruction of arks and losing great swaths of people, it felt like an odd thing to focus on.

Even with these complaints, I was still enjoying the book until the last 40 or 50 pages. The pacing suddenly speeds up, several reveals happens, making little to no sense. I felt the author didn't know how she was going to make some things happen so she shoehorned in events that she wanted to occur, even if there were no links or clues to these sudden reveals.

I ruminated on how to rate this and decided on 2 stars. I don't hate it, but I also don't recommend reading this book either. While this is a quartet, it really feels more like two duologies. The first two books focused on politics and magical societies whereas the latter two focus on religion/god/cults.

Both the book and the audiobook are out now. Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced copy.

What an incredibly detailed book.

The world building is another level. So much so I felt a bit lost having only heard of the series but not having read the first three.

That said the characters have depth and the story is engaging.
