C.S. Green skillfully created the world of supernatural investigations through the POV of DCI Rose Gifford. This story is faced-paced, intriguing, and, most importantly, feels real.
As DCI Rose works through this investigation, she has to come to terms with herself as well, requiring her to admit her strange ability to see ghosts. She learns to use these abilities through working with DS Moony and UNCIT, allowing her to solve this case fully and correctly.
I personally really enjoyed this book! I’m a sucker for a book with lucid dreaming and I was so surprised to see this as an aspect of this story. It was a super interesting take of an investigative thriller, so I highly recommend reading this book when it comes out!
Sleep Tight! That is a great title because you may lose sleep with this one. It's a solid police procedural but with a added supernatural twist. One very creepy supernatural twist.
The book is first in a new series with DC Rose Gifford. A woman is found dead in her room but the problem is the rooms is locked from the inside. Very weird but when another one is found is it possible they are getting murdered from their dreams? And we are introduced to a top secret unit called UCIT which investigates supernatural crimes.
The plot could have been silly but the book is written so well and paced perfectly with great (Flawed) characters that it all works out.
Solid five stars and I can't wait to read more from C S Green.
Book was received free from Netgalley for honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Sleep Tight.
One of my all-time favorite shows as a teenager was The X-Files. I never missed an episode. I wanted to be Mulder and Scully. When I think of cool federal agents, I think of Mulder and Scully even now, years later.
Rose Gifford is a young police officer struggling to succeed in a male dominated profession. Her childhood was not a happy one, and after the loss of her grandmother caretaker, she still sees the domineering woman's ghost in her childhood home.
When Rose and her partner is called to investigate the strange death of a woman by strangulation, the case takes a bizarre turn into the unexplained.
Eventually, she is recruited into a covert unit, the UK version of The X-Files, that investigates unsolvable cases with strange clues.
Rose is not Mulder. Or Scully. She's kind of a brat. She's in her early thirties and terribly lonely, which I get, but she sometimes acts more like a teenager than a professional in law enforcement.
She's pining for a sort of friend, and when she meets a colleague at the covert unit, she comments repeatedly on how handsome he is.
She lacks self confidence, not surprisingly since she grew up in a stifling household with an overbearing grandmother, which is why I found it interesting that her superiors are formidable women and Rose finds each of them equally intimidating.
The supernatural twist behind the mystery wasn't bad, I did figure it out as well as the identity of the perp early on.
My problem was that the bad guy wasn't interesting or compelling, nor is Rose.
I get that that this is the first book and Rose as a character may evolve as the series progresses. I also shouldn't be comparing Rose to The X-Files and Mulder and Scully. That's not fair.
I think some readers will enjoy the supernatural element to this series, which I did like.
This book will keep you up at night! I started it before bed and I couldn’t stop thinking about it . It’s eerie, secretive and extremely twisty. I loved it but it did creep me out!
Page turning locked-door mystery with a psychic turn. Solid mystery that will keep you reading, and guessing, and thinking this could really happen - couldn't it? Good, fast read - fast because you can't stop!
Thank You HarperCollins UK, for this eARC!
Sleep Tight by C S Green
A DC Rose Gifford is book one in this amazing series.
What if your dreams became your biggest nightmare?
But the nightmare is only just beginning…
DC Rose Gifford is called to investigate the death of a woman who was suffocated in her bed. She has this errie feeling there is more to this crime scene.
The crime scene looks pretty tidy and no killer has to be identified.
Then comes a quirky DS Moody, who runs UCIT, which is a department that is set up to solve supernatural crimes.
Moody asks Rose to help her on this case one thing though... Rose doesn't believe in that supernatural stuff.
Our killer is preparing for another kill, and Rose has to get on board before another woman ends up dead!
Mini Review:
I have to say the supernatural aspect was brilliant.
Green can write one of heck of a thriller story that kept me flipping the paves well into the night.
I could not put this complex and intriguing book down, determined to figure out this ending and it was a shocker!
This is a brilliant story that has twists every couple of pages that just made the book better and better. I never saw them coming.
One of the biggest twists was a complete shock - I couldn't believe it!!
This wild novel is so very addictive. Her writing is compulsively readable, and the more you delve
