I can not get into this book at all. I’m about 3 chapters into the audio book and it just won’t grab me at all. I’m trying to follow, but I can’t. Disappointed as I really wanted to get help and tips but couldn’t resonate personally. Thank you netgalley for the arc in return of this honest review.

DNF: 38%. While advertised as a reflective, self help book for changing your perspective and owning your choices in life, is actually more of a memoir and collection of stories about the author’s personal and professional life. With tones of white privilege, this book missed the mark.

Sincere thanks to Greenleaf Book Group Press & NetGalley for an advanced listener copy.

🚀 the book in 3 sentences
1. you don’t have to endure life, you can make your own way
2. people around you have such an impact on you
3. your genes don't define you

🎨 impressions
At first, I was expecting a completely self-development book, with continuous advice, at, more theoretical, and then I realized it was born an autobiography and a “what I learned from my life” book. I thought “oh my god I did not ask for her whole life on paper” but the more I listened to it, the more I realized why it was necessary to have all the elements. Susanne Conrad is such an inspiring and strong woman, she grew so much, and I enjoyed the way she narrated her story with a funny but serious tone.

who should read it?
Everyone! We all come from different places, have different experiences, but it does not mean that we are stuck or that we have failed. Everyone can go where they want because they decide to and want to. This book inspires us to get there now, and don’t wait for something magical to happen.

☘️ how the book changed me
- doing more introspection, and looking at what I want and where I want to be, is it the case now? and if not, why? how can I change it?
- there are so many things in life to do, I can’t let people or beliefs prevent me from doing what I am meant to do.
- choose love, choose life. this is your body, your soul.

✍️ my top 3 quotes
*How many other things have we accidentally or on purpose--through exhaustion resignation, pain, or the closing of our minds and hearts--placed in the not-for-me folder, the not-possible-so-why-bother folder?*

Special thanks to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for sharing a copy of this book with me in exchange for an honest review.

I’m generally a fan of self help books and having read quite a few of them I thought I knew what to expect, which was why I must say this one surprised me. What I was expecting was a typical self help book but the truth is Get There Now comes off as more of a memoir than anything else. And while I will admit that Susanne Conrad had numerous interesting stories to tell (and she did a very good job with the narration) as a self help book itself I’m just not sure how…well helpful it actually is. It was interesting and I don’t regret the time I spent listening to the book and while it does pose so interesting ideas, I don’t know that I can give it a full recommendation as a self help book.
Thanks to Greenleaf Book Group and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an eARC of Get There Now.

This fell somewhere between memoir and self-help book, and turned out to be neither. The only reason I kept going was because I was listening to the audiobook.

I appreciate the author's bravery in speaking so candidly about her life and especially those experiences so common to so many woman across the world. However, most of the time I didn't see how the life experience was linked to the lesson for that chapter 🤷🏾‍♀️. Maybe I was in a weird headspace, but I did get the essence of the idea that we should "get there now"

Also: the tone in some parts was a little too "white privilege-y" for my taste.

Ms. Conrad does a self help book that tells some stories that help her learn how she got to be who she is. She tells the stories with humor and leaves sentences that make you ponder after you turn off the book.
In those regards it is a self help book if you are inclined to learn from others insights.
The promotion of her self towards the end leaves a taste of blatant salesmanship and kind puts off the hope that this isn't just a money grabber effort

Lyrical prose paired with colorful characters and experiences laden with hindsight-filled wisdom load up the brunt of this audio book. Author-narrator's voice is upbeat and crystal clear. Ms Conrad's stories range amusing to poignant. Each time, a nugget of a life lesson is panned from the experience and the she points out how these experiences have shaped here and vice versa. Near the end, the book piles on the self-promotion very thick. If not for this advertisement resounding through the last few segments, I would have rated the title higher.

I can not get into this book at all. I’m about 17% into the book and it just won’t grab me at all. I’m trying to follow, but I can’t.
