Exciting, sexy…just amazing. Mouth and Genevieve are so…I don’t know what…and I mean that in a good way. They work and they really shouldn’t. They’re both extremely alpha and vicious. They should be killing each other instead of falling for each other. No spoilers, just know it’s Jessica Ames…enough said!
Mouth, President of RBMC Liverpool Chapter is out for blood. Will he get to the bottom of who has crossed him?
Genevieve has plans on how she’s going to run the Dockland Gang. Is she making the right choices?
These two characters are rivals, but that doesn’t stop the attraction between them. Will they give into their feelings for each other?
This book had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It was full of action and suspense. Really enjoyed it.
The book was suspenseful, edgy, and an obsession. I couldn’t put the book down. The characters were powerful, and I could envision each scene as it unfolded. The power struggle between the lead characters was extreme and full of lust. The read was an easy one.
4*
Mouth is the president of the liverpool chapter mc and they have always had a challenging agreement with the Dockland Gang.
When a consignment goes adrift and his contact is keeping tight lipped has no option but to strike where he thinks it will hit hard.
Genevieve knows she's playing with fire but didn't expect to be caught so quick, trying to protect her father and keep things how they were.
Nice start to the series
I'm up and down about Motorcycle Club romances. One of the things that often has me disliking them is that authors tend to shy away from making the heroes truly "dark". They want you to still like them and be on their side, so even though they're in a gang, they make most of their money legitimately, or help the police out, or have strict rules about murder. And even though I know this is supposed to make me like them more, it mostly just makes me roll my eyes.
This book, though, grabs the bull by the f**king horns and just goes with it. The very first scene is the hero at 16 graphically torturing a man because his dad tells him to. He asks why, and gets told not to question it, and he doesn't. His inner monologue throughout the book is, to put it mildly, disturbing. He wants to break the heroine and has no guilt about that.
This embrace of the darker elements makes the book feel grittier. Neither the hero or the heroine were particularly likeable (or relatable at all) but I still found myself wanting them to get together.
My biggest complaint is the pacing. It's very slow at the beginning and then it's instant love. It feels like we could have started in media res at the kidnapping and had more time to build up and understanding and a relationship.
Overall, the book was good enough, if not my cup of tea. I probably wouldn't go back to reread this or to read the other books in the series. However, if you are a big MC fan or dark romance fan, this is worth checking out.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A little dark, a bit dangerous, and a lot unexpected are the rules of the road here. Genevieve is determined to preserve her legacy and make her family name something that is remembered and feared, but she didn’t count on Mouth. Or his retaliation. Or her own abandonment. Or even falling for the guy she should hate most. And the same goes for Mouth. He knew Genevieve was beautiful, but is she lying? Can he really hurt her to accomplish his goals?
These two took me on a ride just as spectacular as I’d expected, complete with the grime of society’s underbelly clinging to all that it touches. And yet I couldn’t get enough. I loved Genevieve and her strength just as much as I loved Mouth and his unexpected soft spot for her. I can’t wait for more from this crew now.
my 1st book buy this author very much enjoyed .Genevieve s father Desmond is the head of the dockland gang , she loves her father and would do anything for him she has no relationship with her mother its all about the money with her .but Desmond at a young age gets Dementia and she has to put him in a nursing home but she keeps it quiet and she takes his place . but she does something that s going to get her in a lot of trouble . Mouth is the leader of the royal bastards Mc . and someone has taken something of there s and he out for revenge wont say no more but it is so good i so cant wait for book 2 hope a bit longer
Trigger Warning: Adult content. Violence. Dark emotional scenes.
Genevieve took over The Dockland Gang after his father, the great Desmond Fletcher had a dementia. She ruled the gang with people who do not believe on the leadership of a woman and she thirsted to prove her capabilities. Gen undercrossed the Royal Bastards which resulted for her to be abducted by the gang and Mouth himself, the president of the gang. His rage was too much as Mouth hated betrayal above all.
On her captivity, would Mouth punish her the way he does with those who turned their back from the brotherhood? What if he finds out that all this time, it was that little bird in the kill room that undercrossed him and not Desmond?
Into the Flames is another addition to MC romance books with enemies to lovers trope. This can be read in one-sitting with the intriguing plot. I honestly did not realize that I am on the last few chapters if only I did not check it.
One of our main characters, Genevieve Fletcher, is such a strong woman. I love how sassy she is but deep down the stern façade is a soft heart. Gen is also not someone that can be easily tamed as there is a tigress inside her. Even on the enemy's territory, Gen proved that she could also be a ruler. She does not easily back down more so without a fight.
Not even the menacing Mouth can maker her back down. Mouth is just like Gen. Despite growing up in the gang and witnessing bloodshed all his life, he still has a soft spot on his heart. His loyalty to his brothers is unmeasurable.
During the encounter, I'm really amazed by how they were both headstrong. Mouth cannot waver Gen, at least not in the first few tries and both of them ended up being soft with each other!
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and huge thanks to NetGalley for granting me an e-ARC of this.
Into the Flames is my first book by Jessica Ames. I requested this one because I love the MC genre and was hoping for a gritty, dark read. Although this was book one in a new series, I wasn't aware it was a spin-off from another one of her series and I did feel a bit lost or not a great connection to the characters.
I would go back and read the other series and then maybe give this one a try again and see if it reads differently.
I look forward to reading more by this author.
