To start off, I want to say thank you to Netgalley for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review! I don’t want to say too much so I won’t I’ll just say that I loved this book. The characters were so funny especially Emmet and the whole storyline was so cool. The country aspect I don’t see a lot in books so I was especially really excited after finding that out. It’s weird too I don’t even really like country but I was like let me see, maybe I will. At the end of this it actually made me want to listen to country music and overall it was a cute and entertaining story. 5/5 stars :)))
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novel in exchange for my honest and personal review.
This book is CHARMING. Heartwarming. Delightful. Luke and Emmett were adorable and angsty and determined and the entire story had major Dolly Parton vibes. Really excellent debut novel!
I really enjoyed this book!
I love anything romance, so when I met the main characters, I was instantly intrigued by how this would turn out. One thing I must say is that I loved Emmett's enthusiasm and whole personality. He was always himself. This book had me in my feels every chapter, it was a roller coaster of emotions. I must say I love the character development and overall plot. This book was enjoyable and had a nice pace. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it!
I love this book so very much.
As a Dolly Parton fan I was not disappointed by this book at all, however I think even readers who don't know any of Dolly's music (or enjoy country music at all) will find plenty to love. The romance between Emmett and Luke is done so well and so beautifully. It feels realistic and sweet and hopeful. I may have been in tears for the last 40 pages or so. But the good kind of tears, not Song of Achilles kind of tears!
Brian D. Kennedy has also created such a lush, fun atmosphere with his location of Jackson Hollow and Wanda World it made me want to go there! (And when I finally do get to Dollywood... I WILL BE PRETENDING IT'S ALSO WANDA WORLD)
Pre-Order this book NOW! You will not be disappointed if you do.
I got this arc from NetGalley, these opinions are my own. I really enjoyed this book! Luke and Emmet are both great protagonists! Emmet wants to be a country singer and gets the chance to work and Wanda World, he sees this as an opportunity to pave the way to bigger things. Luke wants to be a Chef so when he gets the chance to work at a restaurant at Wanda World he can’t pass it up. The only problem is Luke’s family has nothing to do with country music or Wanda World, especially as Wand Jean, owner of Wanda World and famous country singer, and his grandma Verna Rose had a falling out! These two boys meet and it’s kismet! I loved how frustratingly realistic Emmet and Luke are. As the make decisions, as the reader you want to scream at them, but realistically you know if you were in the same situation you’d be doing the same things! Anyone who’s struggled with religious families will be able to understand Luke’s struggles with coming out. Anyone whose ever had an idol will understand Emmet’s faith in Wanda Jean! There’s some great supporting cast as well, I love how much they all care for these two! There’s many heart wrenching moments in this book and an unexpected twist! If you like country music, love, and amusement parks Brain D Kennedy wrote a book for you! This is a must read, you won’t be disappointed! I can’t wait for physical copies to come out so I can read it again!
An absolutely stunning YA contemporary story, filled with country music, romance, and the desire to be exactly who you are. A LITTLE BIT COUNTRY was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and I am so blessed to have read an E-ARC!
