I was excited to be able to read this! I love memoirs. The only thing is they are to judge. With that said, I wasn't funded of this book. Its not the story, but her set up of the book. Why start to say something, then drop it and say, we'll talk about that later? Why even bring it up now? This happened a few times, didn't need to happen at all, imo. I had no problems with her bringing up a character under one lesson, but why bringing him back up in another, with a summary of before, the summary didn't pertain to that lesson. So I found that frustrating. I'm proud of her for stepping up and being brave, took me about 8 years to mention to somebody about my three years of being molested, but in all honesty I only told him so he'd lay off of pushing me for sex. Took me 13 years to tell my own mother being he wad a family friend. Also took me over 20 years to even tell my husband of being raped and who did it. He knows the person. So I seriously applaud her telling the world, just the book set up was frustrating. I delay wanted to dnf it!
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this in return of my honest opinion.
In Chasing Tigers in the Dark, Ally Shaw has written an amazing memoir. This book read like a novel for me - I couldn't stop turning pages. Ms.Shaw handles some very difficult situations with ease and grace.
Ally Shaw had an almost picture-perfect childhood. She has a best friend named Eric, who became her crush, then became her boyfriend. Eric was older and went away to college; then he was suddenly just gone.
The next nightmare came from the scary lump that rose on her neck. Far from being a benign object, it was an invader that required surgery, chemo, and radiation.
Then there were two sexual assaults, and an abusive first husband. After becoming a nervous wreck, Ally and her children moved to Ally's childhood home. There Ally began to take back her power and change her life to the amazing life she has today.
I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone searching for hope.
In the interest of full disclosure, I received a free digital copy of this book to review from Net Galley.

In this beautiful book. Ally tells her story of how her lowest points and how she came out thriving. This book is such an encouragement for anyone going through hard times.
Definitely a book that should take permanent storage in your bedside table.
I wasn’t too sure what to make of this. I am not familiar with the author and I requested this book as it looked to be a gripping memoir and interesting life story. I feel it was part memoir, part Christian self help- I’m not too sure. It didn’t gel with me and I didn’t get into the story she was telling. Perhaps just not for me. Thanks to Netgalley for the arc.
