One of Katee Robert's best novels to date - fans of the Dark Olympus series will love this one, and I have a feeling that it will likely be many people's favorites. The relationships are interwoven together perfectly, and it's going to definitely stick with readers for awhile!
This book is amazing! It’s sexy and has a strong heroine. I love Greek mythology so these books by Katee Roberts are amazing and are literally everything! The relationship with Helen, Patroclus and Achilles is the best, they have everything angst, love-hate and the right amount of overprotection that is throughout the book is a recipe for a great time. I usually don’t care about the other stuff going on but I loved the competition element of this story!
Ahhh!! Katee Robert did it again!! Wicked Beauty is an amazingggg addition to the Dark Olympus series. I was obsessed with the way this author brilliantly and seamlessly incorporated Helen, Patroclus and Achilles' connections while also moving along the storyline for future books. If I can sum up this book in one word it would be: SPECTACULAR. This story was passionate, steamy, so consuming!! I never wanted it to end!
Real Talk: Forget everything you think you know about Helen, Achilles and Patroclus and immerse yourself in this modern retelling of their story and Robert's Dark Olympus world. I was absolutely enthralled by them and could not get enough of this story. Helen and her absolute baddassery was the real MVP. She was the perfect match for Achilles' brawn and might and Patroclus' emotional and strategic mind. Furthermore, I loved that Wicked Beauty delved deep into the emotions and vulnerabilities of the heroine and both heroes. I could feel their insecurities and fears and ultimately the love they felt for one another. This story is an absolute win and another 5 star feather in Robert's cap. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review!
I’m sorry, is it hot in here? What a delicious and intriguing book this was. I’m so ready for what comes next!! The story was interesting and had me wanting more while I was still reading it. Excuse me while I go fan myself..
I really enjoyed reading this book! Some aspects were a little hard for me to get through, but I pushed through because I loved neon gods and electric idol. This book was super interesting and I love how Katee develops her world! It’s interesting to see the other characters from the past two books in this book as well. I would recommend reading these in order because some things would most likely be spoiled for the first two if you start with this book. I heard this series is supposed to be like 10? Books long! So this book made me super excited to read about whoever comes next ☺️
I cannot get enough of this series!
Roberts delivers yet another great story in this polyamorous retelling with a strong heroine at the helm. I love it and so will you.
The Dark Olympus series has made me a Robert fan for life.
I don’t know how she can keep outdoing herself with each and every book in this series, but I loved everything about this story and cannot wait for more.
Wicked Beauty, just as the other stories in this series, delivers an outstanding story, fantastic character development and a spiciness that only Robert can deliver.
The Story
When I’ve read polyamorous romance stories in the past, sometimes the storyline takes a backseat to the romance.
Don’t get me wrong, the bedroom scenes were hot in this one and help propel the story forward, but Wicked Beauty is more than just an erotic romance.
I loved how the story revolved around the quest to become one of the Thirteen by earning the title of Ares.
Helen, Achilles and Patroclus all had compelling reasons for competing in the trials and I was captivated to the very end to see how it would all shake out.
The Best Characters
I thought that Robert did an outstanding job of character development with the three leads, Helen, Achilles and Patroclus which made me fall for each of them in turn (and want to root for them as well).
Achilles was the alpha on a mission to make a name for himself having come from nothing.
Patroclus was the beta who would do anything for the man he loved.
Helen was the beauty determined to claim her independence and set away from the role as “the prize” that she was always cast into.
Each of these three had their own struggles to work through but Helen stole the show for me. I loved her defiance, strength, willingness to trust in these men, and honesty that she finally shared with them.
I even loved how Robert painted Paris as the narcissist bad guy.
The Romance
It’s no secret that this is a MMF romance which had several steamy moments, but they didn’t overshadow the story or feel excessive for shock and awe purposes.
Instead, they helped to showcase more of each person’s character and how the three worked even better as a triple.
The Series
The series continues to wow me and I cannot wait for more. This can be easily read as a standalone but it does continue to portray the growing unrest in Olympus and the pressure the Thirteen face to keep up appearances and safety.
I’m honestly counting down to Zeus’ story which I hope we finally get at the end!
This is definitely one of the best romance books of 2022 so far and I highly recommend.
*Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
Holy hotness, I loved this story!!! I went into it knowing that it was a poly relationship and that it included a tournament so had high hopes and let me tell you it did not disappoint. The tournament storyline was exciting and kept me hooked, along with other twists in the plot. The relationship developed at a believable pace but didn’t make you wait too long for the steam, and the steam was good!!! The main characters were likeable and I was rooting for them throughout. Can’t wait for the next instalment in this series
The city of Olympus is going through unsettling times. Perseus has just taken over as Zeus, his sister Eris is the newly appointed Aphrodite, Hades has come "out of hiding" and to make matters worse, after 60 years carrying the title, Ares has died. The title of Ares is not a legacy one - anyone put their name in to be the next one. All you have to do is win a Hunger Games-like, winner-takes-all kind of trial. What Helen wasn't expecting was that her brother Zeus would throw her in as a bonus: whoever wins gets to marry her. Helen can't believe her ears when her brother announces this, especially because she's secretly decided to compete. With her two siblings being part of the Thirteen, she's done with being a pawn. Now this???
Athena's second in command, Achilles, is dead set on being the new Ares. Growing up as an orphan, he sees this as his chance to make his name in Olympus. He enters the competition with his best friend and lover, Patroclus.
Helen and Patroclus were friends as kids, and when they meet again, a little sparkle ignites between them. When they are all thrown together at the competition venue and Helen's life is put in danger the three find themselves sharing a room... and a bed. If Achilles wins, he'll marry Helen... will Patroclus have a place in this scenario for himself?
An amazing addition to the Dark Olympus series, this book is a page-turner. I was, for the most part of it, praying to see Helen get her "revenge". She's treated so badly by her siblings and her gaslighting ex-boyfriend Paris that you just have to root for her. It took me a while to warm up to Achilles, who is the quintessential cocky alpha. We do see him, however, through Patroclus's eyes, and it helps change the perspective. Patroclus is a swoony hero who is willing to risk life and limb for his boyfriend fulfill his dreams. The way their relationship develops to turn the three of them into a unit is very organic and they show so much respect and love for Helen that you really want them to be together.
I'm also super excited that this a traditionally published book featuring a poly triad! At times when people are banning books for silly reasons this is a major win! Yes, my lovelies this is a book about a throuple. Put the pearls back in the jewelry box and enjoy the spicy fun!
Rep and possible triggers: As in all Dark Olympus books, relationships with same sex partners are common and accepted. FMC was in a toxic and emotionally abusive relationship, MMC was abandoned at a temple doorstep as a baby
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Katee Robert for the ARC.
A fun, loose take on greek mythology. Helen kicked ass and I was rooting for her this whole book, hands down my favorite character of the three. Patroclus was my second favorite character, he seemed really nice and like a decent guy. Achilles was definitely my least favorite. He was a dick who didn’t think things though and I don’t know why the other characters loved him for it. I guess that’s his Achilles’ heel. I read the ebook from Netgalley, not knowing until the acknowledgements at the end that this is part of a series, which I will definitely catch up on after reading this.
Katee Robert has done it again! Robert brings the world of Olympus to life in the third installment of her Dark Olympus series! Wicked Beauty tells the story of Helen, Achilles and Patroclus like never seen before, Robert spins the traditional Greek myths in a modern way bringing with it her classic touch of spice.
Here in the land of Olympus the Thirteen rule and Zeus, Athena, and the other traditional top Greek god names are the titles used by the rulers. Each has a specific area of Olympus they deal with, although in this book we mostly focus on Athena, Zeus, and Ares, and over time different people take over the roles. In "Wicked Beauty" the position of Ares has become available and it is one open to anyone willing to go through three trials that may involve risking limb (and possibly life) to get the job. As a bonus, Zeus adds his sister Helen as wife to the winner. Achilles has known he wants to be Ares for ever and his boyfriend Patroclus joins the tournament to watch his back. The two are confident that Achilles is a sure bet, even though some other contenders, including strangers like Theseus and the Minotaur, look pretty serious. Then Helen throws a wrench in by entering the contest herself. Helen may be seen by everyone as a "princess" but she has no power or say in her life, she can only do what her abusive father, then brother, decide. Becoming Ares would give her control over her own life and a say in the politics of Olympus. But three trials, many contestants, and surprising attraction to Achilles and Patroclus make things harder than any of the three of them had planned.
This was my first Katee Robert book and I definitely enjoyed the twist on the classic Greek myths/stories. Achilles has never been a favorite of mine, and I have to admit I still wasn't crazy about him in most of the book, but he worked in a surprisingly good balance with Helen's and Patroclus's characters that had me liking him better by the end of the book in a personal growth sense- something I absolutely wasn't expecting. He's a jerk, because that is literally the nicest his character can be in any world, but I thought the emotional scenes, especially with Patroclus, were really well done, showing a vulnerability I had never associated with Achilles before yet were completely believable in this story. Patroclus I particularly liked, strong yet with some emotional intelligence and vulnerability throughout the book. Helen's emotional growth was good, and I definitely appreciated the believability of the twist the author gave to the Helen/Paris story. When you have people competing for the same thing for different reasons, can they accept that only one of them will get it and still keep the relationship together? It's an interesting question and I really liked how Katee Robert approached it, including the idea of a woman challenging in the traditionally male dominated sphere for power.
There were times where the book was a little uneven, when the characters were a little too in their heads and angsty about does he/she really like me or when will they leave me type of thing. When that stopped and the story focused on the sizzling chemistry between the three main characters or the pulse-pounding trials they face to reach the title of Ares, "Wicked Beauty" definitely shone. I will certainly look for other books in this series to see if they keep the pace going as enjoyably and what fun twists Robert adds to the classic myths along the way.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
What a way to start off a new reading month. This book was non-stop action from the first page to the last. Battle scenes, competitions, plus the steamy sex scenes that we’ve come to love by KR.
Although it’s not her first poly romance it is in the Dark Olympus series. Achilles, Patroclus, and Helen are an amazing triad. They have their hurdles to overcome but there’s a HEA in the end.
I also loved seeing the cameos of characters both from previous books and ones upcoming.
Thank you to Katee Roberts team that provided me with an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
When I first read the synopsis for this book I will admit to being skeptical that it could be pulled off! However Katee Robert is a fantastic storyteller and did a fantastic job giving us a retelling involving Achilles/Patroclus and Helen. All the characters were well written and I greatly enjoyed how the story played out. She also gave us the drama surrounding Patroclus (if you know the myth you'll get my drift) and I was very stressed. I really liked the ending and can't wait to read more in this series!!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
At the beginning of the year I read for the first time a Katee Robert's book (Neon Gods) , and I quite liked it. I also read other books of the author, so I was very happy when I discovered that my request for this book was approved!
Wicked Beauty is a standalone, the third in Dark Olympus series.
I really liked the dynamics between the main characters, I love Greek Mythology so I was very happy about the choose of Helen/Achilles/Patroclus' story.
I expected much more steamy scenes, but those that have been described have been sufficient :) The plot was really interesting, it vaguely reminded me of Hunger Games lol :)
The ending made me scream!! I was so happy for Helen's victory: girl power!
So in conclusion I appreciate this book, and I rate it 3.5 stars! I can't wait to read the next book of the series!
I have been absolutely fascinated by Greek mythology since I was a child. So, when a friend recommended a retelling of sorts of the story of Helen of Troy, I was intrigued. And Katee Robert's book did not disappoint! It was spicy, and dirty, but just enough sweetness to make me care about the characters, which is exactly what I like. I fully intend to read the rest of this series, and more of Ms. Robert's books.
This is the third book in the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert and in this one we are following Helen who has decided to take fate into her own hands and try for the position as Ares. To get the position, Helen must survive and win a series of challenges along with the other contestants among them is Achilles and Patroclus. Achilles has his life all mapped out, he will win the contest become the next Ares, marry Helen and him and Patroclus will continue in their happy life but when Helen turns out to be more than they realized can he keep his life on the track that he wants. Katee knows how to tell a great story and keep her readers fully engaged whether it was the intense action scenes or the moments between Helen, Achilles and Patroclus I could not put this one down! I loved their story and how it was woven together and I can't wait to see what is next for the people of Olympus! This book does get rather spicy and explicit and is about the three of them. I really loved Patroclus and my heart ached for him at times but the ending was really good and I can't wait for more! Thank you so much Sourcebooks Casablanca for my gifted copy for review!
Didn't love it didn't hate. But I am kind of meh about it. I'm not sure if I would read anything else by this author.
Katee Robert delivers another steamy retelling of the fated 13. I went in somewhat blind, having not realized this was the third book and not the second like I had assumed. I was still able to easily follow along since we focus on Helen for the majority of the storyline and it works as a stand-alone if you have no experience with the other two.
I enjoyed the trio of love and steam paired with alternating point of views between the three main characters. The only wish is that the trials were a bit more detailed, I craved more and a bit of a deeper challenge. I also was a bit surprised that it ended with a bit of a cliffhanger. Neon Gods was wrapped up pretty neatly and with this ending it leaves you wanting more (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!)
I have been super invested in the Dimitriou sisters since reading Neon Gods and I was so ready for another one of their books but Helen, Achilles, and Patroculus did not disappoint! This book brought all the steam that I expect from a Katee Robert book and I loved the dynamic between the three main characters! Fantasy books are my first love and the Ares trial elements brought so much joy to my fantasy loving heart and were really well done so they didn’t feel out of place in a romance! I do wish that there had been more to the book after the trials. The conclusion was good but felt abrupt. I know that there are more books coming in this series so we will see more of their story from the outside but I would have liked more to make it feel complete. Note: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A masterful, spicy new-telling of Helen of Troy. I walked into this one a little blind, having read the first in series, neon gods, but not the second yet. I was able to still easily follow along- and obviously need to go back and do electric idol. Hermes is easily still one of my favorite secondary characters. But the dynamic between Helen, Achilles, and Patroclus is palpable and enticing. Katee weaves the story flawlessly keeping you reeled in through to the end.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
