I started reading this book without having big expectations. I was afraid the mistery was gonna be something bland and already seen, and I was afraid to begin another never ending series of books.
I was pleasantly surprised when page after page I found myself captivated by every happening and twist and wanted to know more and more and finally know if the mistery surrounding the city of (now) Nowhere was going to be resolved.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is a slow paced book. I found myself stopping this book to read different arcs. This might not be my cup of tea as this is 2 star book in my opinion but I believe it is someone else cup of tea. This ebook is $0.00 (USD).

The first book in a new series must give the readers the back story of the main characters and build the community in which they will interact. This must be accomplished as quickly, yet as thoroughly, as possible to keep a reader's interest. Ninie Hammon is a master of this art, she consistently builds a visual image while pulling the readers into this community with her. What better name for a town in a horror story than Nowhere? When a freak storm locks Nowhere into a parallel dimension, it locks the townsfolk in with them. The doorway back is guarded by a Jabberwock.....go ahead, I had to look it up too....and their chance of escape does not look good. The build up in this first of a new series is some serious back story that leaves alot open for future books. This is one heck of a book.

Just fantastic - up there with classic thriller/horror books offering intriguing characters who are full of flaws and a fascinating premise of the unknown enemy. Dark and dirty, this book will take your interest from page one and not let go. Love that we can look forward to more from this author.

After a peculiar storm moves through a small town in Nower County, strange things begin to unfold. It begins with Charlie trying to bring her daughter, Merrie, to get stitches in the next town. As they approach the edge of what the locals call Nowhere County, they find themselves transported back to the Dollar General store. Several people follow and everyone is violently ill in some form.

They begin to figure out what is happening as the day progresses and everyone is trying to come to terms with it except Abby. I feel like I may have related to Abby the most, which is a bit crazy, I know! But being a mother myself, I feel like I would go to the ends of the earth to do anything I could to get back to my kid! However, with that being said, I also feel like I would have a bit more common sense than to possibly hurt myself even more - obviously, I would want to keep myself healthy and alive, so I could still be there for my kid once I could get back to him.

The Jabberwock was an enjoyable read, and I am looking forward to the progression of the story!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sterling & Stone, and Ninie Hammon for this gifted e-copy in exchange for my honest review!

This is a very interesting book. People try to leave the town via the county line and end up back in the place they wanted to leave. When they arrive at a deserted bus stop they are in a terrible state. Then it becomes a journey to find out what was behind ‘the Mirror’. This book gave me vibes similar to King or Koontz. Both authors I love. There are other series in this collection and I will be adding them to my TBR list.

I really didn’t know what to expect from this book- the description gave me Under the Dome mixed with The Mist vibes. The reviews I had read were mixed, but I figured I’d give it a try. I am glad I did- it really surprised me!

This is book one in the Nowhere, USA series. It is an extremely character drive story, which I typically prefer with these types of stories. The characters are absolute loons, where strange seems normal until the day takes a truly bizarre twist- even for their standards. Paranoia is running feverishly through the town and true panic sets in. It all started with a storm that wipes the town off the map.

I was given an ARC of this story to read; but thoughts an opinions are all my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Sterling & Stone for the chance to read this book!

I should say at the top of this review that I’m not a big fan of horror except in movies but I requested The Jabberwocky mainly because of the cover. & I did like the idea of this book - a small town trapped literally in the middle of Nowhere USA by some unknown...something. I also liked most of the characters. The story was, for the most part, entertaining although I really didn’t need all the references to bodily fluids.

However, my biggest complaint & for me it’s a big one, I don’t mind a cliffhanger at the end of a book as long as I feel there has been a satisfactory ending to whatever part of the story is being told here. I didn’t feel that in this one. There are apparently seven books to this story but I think I’ll stop at one.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

This book was alright. It has a great idea but it gets a little carried away at times. It is a very good first book to a larger series though.
When a storm blows through Nower County, things start to become just a little strange for its residents. You see, this storm came through and just sort of made the entire town disappear right off the map.
Children’s author Charlie McClintock has a three year old daughter named Merrie. They recently moved back to town. It’s the first time she’s been back since high school and she’s been reunited with some friends, Sam and Malachi.
Soon though, it becomes clear something is very wrong. Noone can leave the town. Anyone who tries ends up in the Dollar General parking lot with horribly nose bleeds, blinding headaches, and absolutely no idea at all about how they got there. There is, however, a strange shimmering marriage on the county line that they have decided to call the Jabberwock.
Abby Clayton has decided all of this is Charlie’s fault. Abby needs to get out because her son is in the hospital out of town and all she wants to do is get to him. So, she has ridden the Jabberwock more than once.
Abby believes that it was speaking to her. Sadly, Abby doesn’t fair so well and as the story goes on she focuses her escape efforts on one person in particular.
This book is alright. For me, though, it got a bit on the boring side and I found myself really drifting out of it and not really feeling inclined to pick it back up. I did though and it really wasn’t bad once I tried to get into it more. What I think this book did was really set up future books. You really got to know some of the main characters so that when future books are read you’ll have a good background on what’s happening.
I definitely recommend this book if you are at all interested. It wasn’t really for me but I’m still considering moving on with the books just to see what is in store for the characters.

This was an awesome and easy read. It had the mystery, the creep factor, and the small town vibes that a good book should have. It read like a Stephen king/war of the worlds without the huge aliens type book lol. Immediately drawn to the title, I picked this book up not knowing what to expect. I love reading series and I am so excited the see what the next book has in store for me. I loved the storyline and the character development. This book plays out like a movie which is my favorite kind of book to read. I love when the descriptions are good enough to see in your head and set your own stage! Thank you for my copy!

The first book in this new series, Nowhere, USA was a rollercoaster of a read and I really can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series. Reading this book reminded me a lot of reading a Stephen King novel. I highly recommend this one.

WHAT A FUN RIDE!

If you're a horror fan who's tired of the loner dude stuck in a small New England town story trope, then this is the book for you. "The Jabberwock" presents believable but unique characters against the backdrop of an Appalachian town that's got so little going for it that it might as well be NoWherE County, USA. Appalachia is usually used for depressing stories of the downtrodden, so it was interesting to read a book that took the media's poverty porn and the usual assumptions about the region and used them as the hook for a page turner. The characters can't just metaphorically move on beyond their socioeconomic circumstances, they are literally stuck in their town. Although the story is rich with region specific details, anyone who grew up outside a major metro area can appreciate this hook and be intrigued by it.

For me, the other star was voice. It felt like I was hanging out at a diner, getting a local's tale. It was friendly and engaging and not at all precious. I love narrators who don't take themselves seriously-- especially when it comes to fantastic events as it makes the WTF just happened POV that I have as a reader feel spot on.

I look forward to reading this series in entirety,..

Nower County was never a hard place to leave. But now, leaving is impossible.

Children’s book author Charlie McClintock and her three-year-old daughter, Merrie, return home to settle Charlie’s recently deceased mother’s affairs. It’s the first time since high school that she and childhood friends Sam Sheridan and Malachi Tackett have been reunited. A beat of happiness before Charlie experiences an unexplainable disaster.

A bizarre storm blows through the Appalachian Mountains and literally wipes Nowhere County off the map. The outside world forgets the tiny town ever existed, and no one can leave. Anyone who tries wakes up in the Dollar General Store parking lot with blinding headaches, gushing nosebleeds, and no clue what happened to them.

This was my sort of story… character driven from the outset Hammon introduces us to the enigmatic and sometimes downright loony citizens of Nowere USA who are having a particularly ‘strange’ day whilst trying to go about their daily errands. I genuinely wanted to know more about every one of her characters and really loved the mixture of what felt like ‘real’ people that Hammon has created.

Something strange is afoot in town and people soon realise they can’t leave… as the paranoia and panic rise, tensions between people fray! With no answers, nobody to help, no escape, and no one to blame the townspeople start turning on each other and it’s only a matter of time before the crazy takes over! This was a rollercoaster of a read and I can’t wait to get stuck into the next book in the series to see what else Hammon has in store for the poor townsfolk of Nower.

This one was a little bit difficult for me to get into at the beginning, but once everything was set up and things really started to move forward, it turned out to be such a wild ride.

This was a delightfully creepy read, and there were parts of it that to me was actually really reminiscent of Stephen King (some very different people in a small town banding together, the way one's mind might revert when faced with fear, etc.). All of the characters really felt like individuals with unique voices, and I felt invested in them.

People randomly appear in the middle of nowhere, with no recollection of how they’ve arrived. They keep trying to leave Nowere County, but every attempt leaves them vomiting and bleeding and transported to a parking lot where onlookers congregate at the spectacle. Is there no way out? The more they try to leave, the worse the consequences.

This is a strange yet captivating first installment. I had no clue what to expect, but found myself easily drawn in. The southern drawl was a bit difficult but I suppose necessary. Overall it was a good book. I look forward to reading the next ones.

I love the concept of this book. A town trapped due some strange happenings seems like a good set up. I enjoyed how it followed the characters as they process the implications of the events around them. I wanted the story to sing, but it fell flat.

I admit going into this book I had no idea what to expect. When I read the part from Viola's POV and the redneck-written dialogue that I could hear in my mind, I was hooked. This book is a lot like Under the Dome from a certain prolific horror writer in that no one can get in or out of this small town, literally the Middle of Nowhere in this case. However, this town is haunted by a phenomenon known as the Jabberwock, because of the looking glass mirage blocking the county border.

I appreciated the characters in this book, from those who "do what's necessary" in terms of the former solider with a raging case of PTSD, the LPN who wanted to be a doctor truly realizing her limitations and the girl who returned because her mother died who clearly doesn't want to be back in Nowhere, KY.

I have a huge TBR list and after finishing this book I have added the other six to the ever growing list. Luckily for me I don't have to wait for them to be published. Wonder if we'll ever see 'em on the other side?
