This is my favourite cowboy series and I was so looking forward to this third instalment in the Kittredge Ranch series by Caitlin Crews and it was every bit as enjoyable as I expected it to be.

This time we finally get to know what made the eldest Kittredge brother, Zack, leave the ranch, which he as the first-born son was supposed to inherit and pour all his soul and hard, sweaty, backbreaking work in. There's no doubt that reserved, broody Zack loves this land and people living on it and he actually loves taking care of horses and the ranch, so why did he decide to become a law enforcement officer and a sheriff? Rest assured, all the secrets will be revealed with the help of a certain red-haired nurse, Janie Atwood, a newcomer to Cold River, Colorado. Ever since she tripped and spilled her snow mocha all over Zack's shirt, he knows she is trouble with a capital T and to his trained lie-detecting eyes she is hiding something and can't be trusted.

Janie has been friend-zoned and relegated to an honourable kid sister status numerous times, so when she comes on the gorgeous sheriff's troublemaker radar, she is so nervous she can't stop talking total nonsense in his presence. The easiest thing would be to tell him the truth- she took up a position in Cold River because this is the best place to she is look for her family roots, but this is the first time anyone actually thought she was a dangerous, sensual woman, so why not go on with it for a bit?

There's so much lovely tension, good, old-fashioned flirting and banter when Janie announces Zack needs a school of Charm. Fair enough, even his loud and interfering siblings think he is gloomy, intense, and is suffering from a Saint Zack/ hero complex. Nobody has ever seen him date anyone in the county and it's true, he hasn't...by choice.
Janie, on the other hand, despite all her blend-into-walls, sensible clothes and practical shoes, is considerate and easy-going. As a travelling nurse, specialising in geriatrics, she has had to fit in in all sorts of families and deal with various conflicts. Janie is excellent at what she is doing and not only because of her medical qualifications and her experience- her heart is in the right place and she really cares for her patients. Janie is a curious mixture of sanguine and emotional, experienced and innocent. Needless to say, when she falls for Zack, she falls hard...And then she also finds out about her notorious ancestor and this adds a new layer to her relationship with our gorgeous sheriff.
What I loved about this book the most is first and foremost that everyone is kind and decent. There's no cheating or malicious gossip. At the heart of the book is the eternal question of parent-children relations, changing expectations, communication and miscommunication- something we can all relate to.
Fans of the series are going to be delighted with the story and the ending that does tie all the loose ends. This is my sixth book set in Cold River and of course I was delighted to see all the familiar faces, but Caitlin Crews doesn't overload the book with cameo appearances, it can be read as a standalone. You might be surprised at an unusually high number of happy couples (and pregnant women), but it is first and foremost Zack and Janie's story, and a very enjoyable one.
I know I'm not ready to say goodbye to Cold River...Hope Caitlin continues the series - there are so many characters that Caitlin's fans can't wait to read more about!

Summer Nights With a Cowboy is a Kittredge Ranch novel by Caitlin Crews. Janie Atwood is new to the small town of Cold Creek, Colorado. She has come to work as nurse/companion to elderly Damaris Gardiner who just happens to live across the road from Sheriff Zach Kittredge. There is just something about Janie that has the good sheriff’s antenna twitching.

While Janie has not had an easy life, and she does have a secret to hide, she has done nothing wrong and has no plans to do so. What she does try to hide from Zach is the way he makes her go goofy in his presence, tripping, spilling coffee, whatever. In order to take control of her situation, Janie tells Zach he needs to attend charm school and, with Damaris’ help, there are tea parties and dance lessons and, perhaps, a future!

I have enjoyed all this author’s Kittredge Ranch and Cold Creek books and this one certainly does not disappoint! I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

This is the third entry in the Kittredge Ranch series but can be read as a stand alone. I'm guessing after you read this one, you'll want to go back and read the others.

This latest entry in the series follows the oldest son, Zack. Dark childhood memories led Zack to walk away from the ranch, though not his family. As county sheriff, Zack takes his job seriously. And the visiting nurse living with one of the town elders raises his hackles, he just can't figure out why. But he's determined to discover her secrets.

Janie Atwood is a traveling nurse. She's been hired more as a companion than a caretaker to octogenarian Demaris Gardiner. Unfortunately, Demaris lives at the end of a lonely lane where only one other house is occupied by the grumpy, ever surly sheriff. Janie makes an effort to break through all the crusty exterior by being friendly. But Zack makes her exceedingly nervous and it seems that every time she's in his sight, her clutziness overcomes her. And each of those incidents starts to get to Zack. More and more, she burrows herself into his thoughts.

Janie does have other reasons for being in Cold River. When Zach discovers why Janie is in town, his cold heart starts to melt and he begins to let Janie in. While he walked away from the ranch, he didn't walk away from his family and still attends the Sunday dinners. To say his siblings were shocked would be putting it mildly They certainly didn't waste the opportunity to get in a few comments. Janie watched the family dynamics, realizing, maybe for the first time, that Zach's grumpy exterior may be covering some secrets of his own.

This latest chapter in the Kittredge Ranch series pits the idealistic, caring nurse against the grouchy, bottled up sheriff. While I didn't want to like Zack at first, I couldn't help but feel for him. The past hurts and the loneliness he tries to hide jumped off the page and grabbed my heart. It took no time for him to burrow himself in. The ever optimistic Janie, has some fairy tale dreams, but a very down to earth vision of reality, brings. She's the perfect person to help Zack overcome his past and reconnect with his family, I enjoyed the banter between Zach and Janie that was so natural and fit their unique relationship. I appreciated the added twists at the end that just enhanced the good feelings I was left with at the end of the story..

Janie is a beautiful spirit with a huge heart. She enjoys caring for her elderly patients and when the opportunity to take a position in Cold River is available, she dives in, hoping to solve the mystery her mother left behind. It’s funny to me when Zack, the stubborn sheriff, sees her as a threat to their community. For Janie, having someone see her as an outlaw is a breath of fresh air from her good girl vibes. Zack carries his own baggage after he left the family ranch to become sheriff. His destiny was to take over running the ranch but he chose a different path and we finally get to understand his motivations. Janie dives into researching the families of Cold River to try and locate her father and maybe a new family. She struggles though because her grandparents loved her and gave her an amazing life. I appreciated her hesitation that finding a new family could take away from the memories and love she already had in her life. Getting to give the sheriff charm lessons added a wonderful fun element and allowed me to see another side to Zack. Deep down, they are the same in their desire and passion to care for the ones they love. But will Zack be able to shed his fears to allow himself to love? I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

The beginning of the book I had trouble keeping my interest but about 25% in I was hooked. I love the chemistry between the characters . Zack and Janie really came alive in this book. Old secrets, happily ever after and found family are a few tropes young find within this book.

Janie comes to town to work as damaris’s nurse/ companion but there are other underlying reasons for her to live here in this small town in Colorado. She believes her roots are here. She was raised by her maternal grandparents and her mother died in childbirth but they are all gone now. Hoping to find her family she joins a bunch of clubs in order to research them further.

Zack is the town sheriff and is a stickler for the rules. Everything is black and white for him and is known for his gruff manner and always being right. His family has secrets of their own as well and he will learn that what he thought he saw years ago is not what it appeared to be.

Janie gets under his skin and slowly she teaches him it’s not a matter of whether it’s black or white but that people are human and everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes don’t make you a bad person . Mistakes give you character and as you learn and grown the mistakes make you who you sre today.

Another amazing addition to this series! Sheriff Zack Kittredge has never met anyone like travelling nurse Janie Atwood. Her irreverent humor catches him off guard and is so different from his stern demeanor. He is immediately suspicious of her reason for coming to Cold River, Colorado. Janie is a “companion” to one of the town’s oldest residents, but does she have another reason for moving to town? Janie was raised by her grandparents after her mother died giving birth. Her grandparents told her stories of her mother’s time in Cold River…is it possible her father is still there? Does he even know about her? Janie decides to search Cold River’s history and realizes that the family she might belong to are considered outlaws. How will that influence the feelings she is having for Zack and his feelings for her? A sensual and romantic story for Zack and Janie as they both deal with family issues that have been left too long unresolved. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Thank you to St. Martin’s Paperbacks and NetGalley for the eARC to read and review!

Families are complicated. I loved how the author juxtaposed different family dynamics and relationships within in all its messy, beautiful, loving and sometimes painful ways.

Zack lives a carefully built life as a loner after leaving his family’s ranch to get away from his father. While he may seem content with his life in the town and with the family he loves, it’s clear the burdens of the past and a deeply guarded secret still weigh heavily upon him. Janie moving next door disrupts Zack’s world. He’s immediately suspicious of her and her peculiar interest in Cold River’s history, suspicions that surely explain his unusual feelings for her. I loved seeing Zack slowly loosen up and relax some and see things from a different point of view.

Janie is a complete opposite to the gruff cowboy sheriff. She’s delightful, funny, but adorably clumsy when it comes to Zack. Accidentally tripping and spilling her coffee on Zack is the best worst thing to ever happen to her. I liked how the story basically starts off with this rather cute moment as Janie laments lustfully about Zack in her head. And I love how she plays into Zack’s belief that she’s up to no good. I was pleasantly surprised as we learned what brought Janie to Cold River because it contrasted so well with Zack’s story.

All the family histories uncovered were interesting, heartbreaking, and exquisitely interwoven. Love is a profound, complicated matter in this story/series. Understanding it all and how individuals expressed their love made for a captivating read.

Crews really outdid herself with "Summer Nights with a Cowboy." I really enjoyed Janie and Zack’s passionate story.

SUMMER NIGHTS WITH A COWBOY returns us to Colorado and the Kittredge Ranch. This is the third book in the series, and it’s Zack and Janie’s story. It can be read as a standalone and is a lovely romance to add to your shelf.

Janie barrels into town with a lot of secrets and is a nurse/companion to Zack’s elderly neighbor. When she and Zack meet, there are definitely sparks, but they go their separate ways for a multitude of reasons. Janie has low self-esteem and always seems to be everyone’s friend. But they do say opposites attract, and in this case they are completely on target! Their relationship develops slowly.

There are several plots going on in this story, and I like how the Kittredges and others we’ve met in their small town interact. Zack’s family is his cross to bear until Janie sheds light on what she observes as an outsider, which affects many of Zack’s beliefs. We also learn more about the Hall family who live in their own compound and always seem to be up to no good. There are many surprises in the telling of this tale. The story has a nice flow, rich characters, and terrific closure.

Ms. Crews, who also writes as Megan Crane, is one of my favorite authors. Whether lured in by cowboys, the cold of Alaska, or any of her other subjects, I’m always looking forward to reading what she pens under either name. Give her books a try if you haven’t already.

This was such a sweet story with hints of humor. Janie is constantly lending her brand of humor with her inability to walk without tripping…right to the end. Zack even contributes, in his own way, with his grouchy, sheriff-y attitude.
I admit that I’m a fan of more talking and less introspect and description but the story came together fine. I had a few moments of confusion with some of the family happenings which led to unrest in the Kittredge family but, if I didn’t think so hard about it, I was satisfied with the outcome. These are already a I have it 4 stars. Janie and Zack were a must-love couple.

It’s always fun to come back to this sweet town in Colorado to see old friends and meet new ones. Sheriff Zack is kind of a grumpy guy, more interested in the law and being right than in relationships. Nurse Janie has come to town to take care of Zack’s neighbor, arousing Zack’s suspicions with her sunny attitude. Of course those suspicions are really a cover for the sparks flying between these two, as their romance develops. And yet Janie really is hiding her main purpose for coming to this particular town. It was heartwarming to watch these two find their way to each other and the growth that happened along the way. We see Zack learn things about his family that help him relax a bit. Janie learns about the town, and its inhabitants and history, helping her to come to terms with who she is and her past. There’s some deep growth and personal development happening here, as well as some laugh out loud antics that can only happen in this small town. It’s a highly enjoyable read. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my freely given, honest review.

Caitlin Crews wrote a charming and funny installment in the Kittredge Ranch cowboy series. Janie is a delightful addition to the characters in this small Colorado mountain town. She is a geriatric nurse in town for a job and also to do a little family research. Zack is the town sheriff and the oldest Kittredge sibling. He is stoic and unyielding. There are many opportunities while reading to laugh out loud as Zack and Janie cross paths and it inevitably turns into disaster. Eventually all the watching turns into heated action and their feelings cannot be denied.

It was great to get back to the Kittredge Ranch, and it was nice to see a career for our leading lady that I haven't seen before - a travel nurse.

I really liked Janie and the mission she was on for herself.
And then there is Zack. I wanted to hug him as much as I wanted to slap the back of his head Gibbs/Dinozzo style. I liked him for Janie, as much as I hated the way he was with Janie if that makes sense.

She is good for him though, and I liked the way she thawed his hardened heart.

I had forgotten a lot of what happened in the other books, but there was enough to jog my memory, and though book 3 in the series, it could be read as a stand alone.

I look forward to reading more of Caitlin Crews stories in the future.

Angry, cranky, rude, grumpy sheriff meets sweet, practically invisible newcomer to town and he is both suspicious and turned on. Well, ok then.

Suspicion meets sunshine in Caitlin Crews' latest Kittredge Ranch tale of a cowboy knocked completely off his judgmental boots by the cute mysterious newcomer to town. The Kittredge Ranch is turning out to be one of my favorite Caitlin Crews series; a lot less melodrama and a whole lot more heroines knocking down alpha guys sideways and upside down. Zack was practically pathological in his tense, grumpy, cold refusal to engage with Janie, which made his and Janie's story not quite as fun and steamy as Harriet and Jensen's (All Night Long with a Cowboy), But it was still an adorably off-kilter chase between him and a bemused Janie.

If you love a grumpy hero who is absolutely bewildered and gobsmacked by his reaction to a practically invisible nobody (Janie's thoughts, not mine), this cranky cowboy is for you. And if you love a funny, down to earth heroine who lusts after our hero while keeping both practical feet planted on the ground, this one is for you.

And while I absolutely will read every grumpy sunshine romance, I have to point out how much I'm loving Caitlin Crews' thoroughly modern heroines. Both Janie and Harriet turn their cowboys inside out without blinking an eye, and I hope the author has more of this to come.

I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story.

We're back in Cold River for another member of the Kittredge Ranch family. This time it's sheriff Zack. Janie Atwood is a traveling nurse who's moved in with his elderly neighbor & he's wary but kinda interested in the pretty lady. Janie is in awe of the most handsome man she's ever met. She's a clutz when she's rattled & Zack rattles her a lot. She trips, spills things & is an all around walking disaster when nervous. The writing style of Ms Crews is the same as always, slow, sweet, & not too many big words I have to look up (:]). An enjoyable read with plenty of catch up with characters from previous books.

I loved Zack and Janie's story. They are both such lovable characters. But each has family secrets. Can they overcome these and have a happy ending? Wonderful story

Fun but also Intense Story
A clumsy nurse trying to find family and an uptight sheriff find happiness together. A fun read, with family and small town dynamics.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I think this might be my favorite Kittredge Ranch book!
We’ve seen sheriff Zach as a secondary character in previous books, but here we get to know him better and understand more about his backstory. He is paired with traveling nurse, Janie, who is in Cold River for more than work.

I enjoyed the slow burn of watching these two get to know each other. The push/pull was entertaining and the fun really started when the pot of tension finally boiled over. The best part of this couple was not only did they have chemistry, they also challenged each other’s preconceived notions. Zach and Janie both had pretty significant character evolutions, but they felt organic and natural to who they are.

As with all books in the series, there is a significant secondary cast. Having read other books set in Cold River (and not just this series) would be helpful, but not necessary. Ms Crews does a good job of sharing enough information to feel like you know the players involved. Loyal readers will appreciate getting to see previous main characters pop in for updates and a long running mystery *may* be solved…..
i am hopeful that this is not our last visit to Cold River!

I received a complimentary copy of Summer Nights with a Cowboy in exchange for an honest review. I read this as a standalone. It was a quick and easy read with lots of character and interaction between Janie and Zack. The charm lessons were a little over the top along with some of the family drama, but overall, worth the read.

Summer Nights with a Cowboy by Caitlin Crews is the third and final book in the Kittredge Ranch series. The Kittredge men are back and it is now Zack's turn to look for love. This is the story of Zack, the town sheriff, and Janie Atwood, a traveling nurse that is new to town. Janie has always been the 'good girl' and in meeting Zack she decides that maybe she is ready to not play things safe, but rather to try out being mischievous. As with the first two books, this one also gets pretty hot and steamy. I do believe this book could be read as a standalone, but there would be a lot of fun with the other Kittredge brothers that would be missed out on by skipping them.
