I will buy every book Katy Birchall puts out. Her characters are so easy to love. Her writing is hilarious and captivating. I find myself laughing and smiling the entire time! Even though our main character was going through a very heartbreaking event (being left by her soon-to-be husband in a BROOM closet). You felt her pain, sorrow, and even embarrassment going through the challenges.
This is the book that sparked my love of Katy Birchall and now I drop everything and read her books whenever one becomes available. Freya is so sympathetic and you will root for her all the way through (and just despise Matthew!) It was funny but not fluffy--plenty of substance and just a very sweet story.
This one was so enjoyable and the perfect spring read! If you're looking for something light and fluffy, I highly recommend picking this one up.
This was a fun one (I kept imagining the movie) I loved Freya and her friends.
Thanks for the ARC Netgalley - really enjoyed it!
I loved this one, even more than The Secret Bridesmaid. I listened to the audio too and enjoyed the narration. The main character gave me Becky Bloomwood vibes. Katy Birchall is now one of my autobuy authors.
Great book for those of you who love chick lit! I loved the premise behind the book, and it was a fun, light read!
I enjoyed this book a lot!! there were SO many laughable moments in this book, that just made me laugh out loud! i loved that it felt so relatable to the main character, her moments were just too good & it was hard not to find yourself just laughing. the ending it where I struggled mostly. I wasn’t completely happy with it & that’s truly why I took a point off the rating, other than that this book is good for a great laugh & quick read!
I’ve read other books from this author and loved them…this one not so much. And I tried so hard. I kept reading hoping it would get better and grab my interest but over half way thru I finally had to DNF it. Maybe I’ll try it again, but I’ll definitely try the author again!
I enjoyed this story. Feyra was extraordinarily likable and her friends Leo and Ruby were even better. It was heartwrenching going through the emotional 'break-up' journey alongside Feyra. I totally recommend this book if you're going through a breakup and want to feel seen because Katy does almost too good a job of making you feel that journey. The rest of the book is fun and lighthearted and just a generally great read.
Thank's to Netgalley and the publisher for the Arc.
This was a fun read!
The book was witty, funny, and charming. I loved the self discovery and friendship aspect!
Overall, I would recommend!!
Freya gets into a dilemma where her soon to be husband calls off the wedding and she has to deal with the aftermath. I went into reading this book expecting it to have more of a romance plot. I wouldn’t say that this book is a rom-com but other than that it was a good read.
Thank you to @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my gifted copy of The Wedding Season, by Katy Birchall. This cute romcom is out now, and features romance, humor, and growth! All of my favorite things!
It was so sad seeing Freya left at the altar, but I loved the direction the book took afterwards. The challenges were hilarious, and really kept her on her toes. Plus, it made it a fun book to read, because I always wanted to know what the next challenge was going to be.
I’m already looking forward to Birchall’s next book!
With this book, it was totally a case of "It's not you, it's me." I absolutely adored book #1! But I am not in a place where reading a book like this (all the talk of COVID) works for me. I'm sure it is lovely, and maybe in 5 years I can circle back to it. But I just couldn't even get past the first chapter. I had to DNF. I am still giving it 3 stars because, like I said, the first book was fantastic and I am sure this one would have been also, but it is not for me, not right now.
I really enjoyed this book. Wedding season is no joke especially when you just have been dumped. It's about love lost and finding yourself. This Rom com was a easy read. Definitely recommend.
The Wedding Season is a cute, light, feel good story. This story follows Freya through a busy wedding season full of challenges from her friends to help pull her out of her breakup slump after she got dumped the day before her wedding.
Anything Katy writes I’ll read! Her books are the perfect palate cleanse romance for me. She’s incredible
Thank you to the publisher and to the author for sending me an advanced copy of The Wedding Season in exchange for a review. I really enjoyed the author's first novel The Secret Bridesmaid so I was excited to give this one a read as well. The plot is simple, Freya is left by her fiancé the day before her wedding, and must now face a summer of nonstop weddings. I found Freya to be quite relatable as a main character and really loved her supportive friends as side characters. The book was well paced and fun as you experience all 7 weddings without feeling like it gets bogged down at any point. While there is some side romance here, I thought this was a better story of friendship, resilience, and the pain of growing up. I look forward to Birchall's next book.
Katy Birchall- writes a cute, funny, romcom. I highly recommend reading her books.
I fly through them and they make me laugh. They are one sitting reads forsure
I am a sucker for a book about weddings, so I enjoyed this charming take on wedding season from Katy Birchall. (And, yes, wedding season is definitely a thing.)
When Freya Scott is dumped on the eve of her wedding, she's left with an avalanche of emotions. The wild tasks her friends give her are just what she needs to survive the season and find herself in the process.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
This book was wonderful. It had many characters that I enjoyed almost immediately, from the brother (and his gift peacocks), to Ruby and Leo (who make the to-do list to help Freya survive the wedding season), to the dad (who reminded me of in some way of Bridget Jones’s dad), and, of course, Jamie (who was introduced so well, that I was immediately rooting for him). Freya’s group of lady friends were also fun to get to know (even if some were a bit overbearing when drunk).
The list the story centers around was a fun and interesting way for Freya to distract herself (and move on with her life), but it also provided some excellent plot development. Additionally, I enjoyed the realistic way the narrator grieved, numb at first, then remembering joy, only to fall back on the loss.
It was not hard to make the fiance despicable, but my absolute favorite scene was when he happens into the same restaurant Freya and her friends are dining at and she finally finds the words to say what she needs to say.
I sometimes find romances hard to read because the precipitating event is so absurd, but I enjoyed Freya and Matthew meeting in the broom cupboard. The way it was written made it feel like it was the most normal thing in the world. I also don’t enjoy when the main character spirals over what they’ve lost, or don’t know their own worth, and there was some of that in this story, but I think that comes with the territory of life-altering events, and being in a relationship with a guy for 12 years (as Freya was), but it doesn’t detract too much from my overall appreciation of the story. I would definitely recommend it to friends.
