I recently finished reading a captivating book that left a lasting impression. The narrative was skillfully woven, keeping me engrossed from the opening chapter to the final page. The characters were richly developed, each contributing to the depth and complexity of the story.
What stood out most was the author's command of language. The prose was both eloquent and accessible, creating a seamless reading experience. The plot unfolded with a perfect balance of suspense and revelation, making it difficult to put the book down.
Review 53. Percivious Insomnia by J.J. Cook & A.J. Cook
I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review.
When I first read the plot of this book, I thought it was an interesting concept and I liked the science fiction aspect of the story.
Unfortunately upon reading it, I found this book hard to read due to the number of different POV's, namely that each chapter was from a different character's viewpoint. I also wasn't keen on the layout of chapter 34, it was confusing.
I felt that the main plot didn't really get going until near the end of the book.
I thought that the authors overloaded the reader with the amount of information they gave when describing the characters surroundings.
I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately it just wasn't for me.
As I have also been sent the 2nd book, Percivious Origins, I will read this in the future and also provide an honest review.
I would still like to thank the authors for gifting me this book and allowing me the opportunity to read something different.

Let’s say things how they are: you should never judge a book by its cover but at the beginning I was captivated by it and I requested the book mainly because of that and only secondly because of the plot. The storyline seemed interesting enough even to capture a not-so-much fan of sci-fi (me), but I found myself starting to lose interest in the book on the sci-fi parts and got bored quickly of the thriller parts as well, the only ones that kept me going. When I found out the book was the first of a trilogy that was it and I put it down for good.
The book is indeed nice: good writing and a very interesting story, it’s just not my cup of tea.
I really liked the concept for this book, but the writing started strong and quickly petered out. By half way through, it felt generic and forced.
Thank you NetGalley and the authors for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
An insomnia pandemic is sweeping the globe. Dr.Cooper Delaney believes that his sleep aid, Noctural, with no side effects, is the answer. The only problem is, it does'nt work.
Percivious Insomnia is book 1 in a three-book series. This medical science thriller was a genre that I've never read before, making it to me, very original.
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the book cover, it is gorgeous. It gave me hope of an amazing story inside that I just had to read. Unfortunately it was the only thing that held my attention.
Everything was good in the beginning, but on reaching 30% of this book, I was alot lost. Multiple POV's were fine, but after a while, characters kept invading other character's space, which got me confused at times. It was very difficult to keep up with. The only scene that stood out for me was Dr.Cooper's skiing accident. It felt like I was actually there, suffocating under the snow.
I really wanted to love this book, with the gorgeous cover, and the initial concept was very promising, but it just wasn't the book for me.
I did not end up finishing this book. It did not grab my attention throughout the initial chapters so I put it down and never picked it back up. The writing was not bad, I just wasn't draw into the story. That might be because I haven't read a mystery thriller in a long time and I just was not in the mood for one.
I really wanted to like this book. I felt sure I would love it, since it had almost exclusively 4 and 5 star reviews, but this was a omplete miss for me. Each chapter was told by the POV of a different character (and there we aren't just talking 2 or 3 characters) I found it impossible to keep up with who was who and it all just got jumbled in my mind and it took away from my enjoyment instead. This just was not the book for me.
