Pretty decent domestic thriller. But I was totally weirded out that a woman would sleep with the man she thought killed her son. A couple of good additional twists at the end.
"Nothing ever happens in Brighton Hills. Well, nothing you can see, anyway. It all happens in whispers, and behind closed doors: it swirls around in rumors and sideways glances, even though the surface is glossy and calm. Underneath though, it's filled with desperate women who turn their heads from their husbands affairs so they can keep their Gucci and Birkin, and dads buying recreational coke from a high-school kid to get through through soul-stealing jobs they hate."
In a tranquil, well-to-do gated community on the Oregon coast, two neighboring housewives make a deal. What seems like a simple--if devious--arrangement sets off a chain of events that reveal the neighborhood's dark underbelly, particularly concerning their mysterious and reclusive new neighbor, in this juicy suspense novel that is perfect for fans of Big Little Lies and The Last House Guest. This is a story that revolves around three women: Paige Moretti, Georgia Finney, and Cora Holmon.
Paige’s son Caleb was killed last year in what was determined to be a hit and run. She's unable to cope with the loss or put her life back together. She lives secluded life, cutting off all of her social life, leaving their family restaurant as her husband moves to a new apartment. She doesn't give a damn if she breaks into a neighbors home, or gets in the faces of the police who she believes are corrupt, she just wants answers. Paige finally feels herself coming back to life when she agrees to help Cora prove Finn is a cheater. But at what cost?
Cora is a housewife with a daughter Mia, who will soon turn 18, and is involved in a variety of charity work. To make matters worse, Cora believes her husband Flynn has been cheating on her for years, and yet she can't seem to find the proof necessary. Thanks to a prenup agreement, Cora can't just divorce Flynn without losing a whole lot of money. So, she asks Paige to help her find the evidence she needs to put Flynn out on the streets. Nobody could see what is to come next?
Georgia hardly ventures out of the house and is seen mostly in her home taking care of baby Avery. Her husband Lucas, who is a judge, tells people she has agoraphobia, but that’s not why she never comes outside. Or socializes. Georgia, not her real name, has been tormented throughout their short marriage and he does unspeakable things to her. Every time she’s tried to leave before, he finds her and makes it seem as though she is mentally unstable. Georgia's one hope of escape is asking Cora and Paige to help her escape so she can gain her freedom and return home.
Three women’s dysfunctional marriage relationships collided each other with surprising twists, shocking infidelity moments. As the story progresses we get to know more about their lives, their relationships and their struggles and secrets. These women have all the gall, wealth, and privilege that allows them to do what they want with sometimes ludicrous results. Paige is more than a mother who lost her son and nearly lost herself to darkness. Cora is more than just a housewife who loves doing charity work and hoping to keep her daughter from doing the wrong things. And, Georgia is more than someone who once lived in Europe and found romance with a man who ended up being a monster.
It might sound like all kinds of crazy, but it’s incredibly controlled chaos, but if you stick to the ending, you will find a whole lot of answers to all three women's questions.
**4.5-stars rounded up**
A twisted neighborhood drama, thick as a bird's nest with secrets, I had an absolute blast reading On a Quiet Street. Nova Glass delivered a super-compelling, twisted narrative that dragged me in from the very start and never let go. I was so impressed with this!
The exclusive neighborhood of Brighton Hills may look tranquil, but behind the scenes it is anything but. Cora thinks her husband Finn is cheating, Paige, after losing her son, is angry and combative, Georgia is afraid to leave her house; and these details just brush the surface of what is happening on this one quiet street.
Our narrative cycles through these three perspectives and fills in all the gaps as they're lives twist and blend together, ultimately leading to one shockingly intense conclusion!
Y'all that's all I really want to say about the details of this story. It behooves you to go into this one knowing as little as possible, with no preconceived notions of what is going to play out.
I've read from Seraphina Nova Glass before, her 2020-release Someone's Listening, and I really enjoyed it, but this book is next level. I thought the pace of the reveals was absolutely perfect. There wasn't one single chapter where I wasn't learning some new facts that steadily progressed the plot.
I really enjoyed all of the characters as well. I found them to be relatable and realistic. Sure, their drama taken all together may seem a little over the top, but when I really thought about it, the things they were experiencing are actually somewhat common, such as infidelity, grief and loss of identity.
I started to become attached to this trio of women. They weren't perfect, but when it really counted they formed a kind of alliance that to me was uplifting. They found strength through one another and I appreciated that journey. I would definitely recommend this to Readers who enjoy a great, twisted neighborhood drama. This one definitely delivers that vibe 100%.
Thank you so much to the publisher, Graydon House, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I had so much for with this one and am definitely looking forward to reading more from Seraphina Nova Glass!
Three families deal from a quiet, gated community deal with their secrets.lies and much more in this familiy oriented thriller from Seraphina Nova Glass.
The story opens with someone dying under very suspicious circumstances. It's not quite clear what exactly happens, but when the reader meats Cora, Paige and Georgia, it is revealed that Paige is grieving for her lost son and Cora is suspicious that her husband is cheating ... again. And their mysterious, young, gorgeous neighbor Georgia is most likely agoraphobic according to her husband but it turns out her story is so much more complicated.
Only all is not what it seems in this gated community.
Each of the women are dealing with something and they are going to get to the bottom of their situations. Over the course of the story, the truth comes out about Finn's cheating, Paige's son and the real reason Georgia never leaves the house. The story alternates between the point of view between these three women.
I found this story to be absolutely engaging. I didn't want to put the book down (which is sometimes inconvenient) but wow, I really loved this story and how it was presented to me. The tensions built steadily from the start, culminating in a terrific conclusion that had me scratching my head about how they all got away with what they did. Sorry, but I don't want to spoil it with the details -- this is not a story where good and bad are easily identified. The women tell lies too, and the question becomes whether they were any different than the lies ties by Finn and Georgia's husband? Did the end justify the means? I asked myself these questions and I loved that this story made me really want to examine these issues. This book would be perfect for book club conversations.
I did have some questions about the easy forgiveness among the women that really made me wonder if they could be that forgiving after everything that transpired. There were parts of the book that I wanted to scream at the characters (especially some of the reckless things Paige does throughout) and I loved that I had that level of engagement with this book.
Overall, I loved this story. It was constructed very well for a family oriented thriller and the characters were very interesting and multi-faceted. I really liked all 3 of the women characters and how they came together. While I was still left with a few questions regarding that opening scene, I did like there was some closure there. A truly entertaining family thriller.
It's safe to say that domestic thrillers are my favorite books to ready and I now have a new author to add to my Must Read List. The author expertly weaves alternating perspectives of Paige, Georgia, and Cora to shed more and more light on what's going on under the surface. The characters are well-developed and while they do some questionable things, I generally liked all of them. The twists incorporated throughout the story until the very last page.
On a Quiet Street is a perfect title for this book. Brighton Hills is a beautiful gated community on the Oregon coast. The houses are huge, on large lots and with lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. Paige, Cora and Georgia all live in one of these houses, and although they are pleasant to each other and maybe they are friends, they all have secrets and lies behind those doors. Cora and Paige are friends that used to get together regularly for wine and a gab session, but things changed when Paige's son was killed in a hit and run. The police rule it accidental and have all but shelved any investigation, but Paige is sure it was intentional and that someone on their street knows what happened. She had been spying on everyone, so when Cora mentions that she is worried, Finn is cheating on her, Paige volunteers to spy on him and find out one way or another. Finn is really good at making Cora look paranoid and has a reason behind every suspicion. Georgia is a young wife with a small child, but she doesn't leave the house, she doesn't drive, she doesn't talk to the neighbours. She lives with Lucas, her older husband who is also a local judge. What is happening inside her home?
This story is told from the point of view of our three main characters, Paige, Georgia and Cora. These women are a mess. Each of them has something devastating in their background and it will need all of them putting their heads together and watching other's in their lives to figure out how to save themselves. Every time a secret or piece of information was revealed, I had an aha moment, but then something happened to lead me in another direction. I am not a fan of cheating and infidelity, but in this story it blends in so well with all the other crazy going on. Seraphina Nova Glass pens a delicious story with family, secrets and friendships. There are several heavy themes in this story such as spousal abuse, alcoholism, drug use, grooming, infidelity, gaslighting and grief. A well written, well plotted, twisty, secret filled story that pulled me in and didn't let me go until the end. I definitely recommend this book.
This book took me a long time to get in to but once I was about half way through I started to enjoy it. Definite twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Would be 4 stars for me if it got moving more quickly. Worth a read.
Thank you to net galley for my free copy!
Thank you to the publisher, Graydon House, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of On A Quiet Street in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
Oh, how I love Glass’ writing. I have to confess, though, that I had some difficulty getting through this book.
It had nothing to do with the quality of the writing, but more so with the fact that there are a few triggers that kept sending me into bouts of panic and anxiety attacks. It is a shame, since I truly enjoyed the concept of On A Quiet Street.
The Details
The story is told from the perspectives of three different women living on the same, affluent, picture-perfect street. All with different challenges and very different personalities.
What really impresses me in On A Quiet Street is Glass’ skill in giving each woman such a distinctly unique and different voice, especially through the dialogue.
The syntax used with each woman creates contrasting personality traits that make it so easy for the reader to picture the characters as separate and individual.
I found the plot a little confusing at first, since On A Quiet Street starts out with a very strong scene and then takes a 180-degree turn to focus on a completely different subject.
Nevertheless, it is still a very intriguing read.
As I said above, the writing is superb. The differences created in each character make them stand out on their own. I can still picture them very clearly in my head.
The Verdict
Overall, I very much enjoyed On A Quiet Street. I just wish my personal anxiety triggers had not gotten in the way of making this a truly remarkable reading experience.
Regardless, Glass never fails to deliver and I would definitely recommend On A Quiet Street.
A compelling, edge of your seat domestic thriller about three suburban women who band together to help each other deal with dark secrets. I couldn't put this one down and really enjoyed it on audio too. You never know what your neighbors are dealing with, the seemingly happy new mom who's secretly trapped in her house by her psychopathic husband, a woman dealing with grief from a hit and run that killed her son and a wife certain her husband is cheating on her. These three unlikely women come together in the unlikeliest of stories. Perfect for fans of books like Local woman missing. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my advance review copy.
CW: contains domestic abuse, infidelity and the death of a child.
When you read a thriller that is not only plot driven but also brings to life each of the characters, well my friends you KNOW you are going to have a winner on your hands.
Seraphina Nova Glass, knocks it out of the park with this domestic thriller, On A Quiet Street. Just because you are neighbors with someone and they ‘appear’ fine on the outside, you have no idea what terrors might lurk inside their homes.
Get this one know! I also listened to the audiobook and let me say the narrator is one of the best, Imogen Church. Fabulous on all accounts!
Thank you NetGalley for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
This street is deceptively quiet. Behind closed doors there’s cheating, lying, abuse, grief….
Three women with different issues in their lives end up working together to help each other out. Paige cannot get over the death of her son and repeatedly incites neighbors and police in an effort to prove who killed him.
Cora knows her husband is a cheater and a liar but he gaslights her to no end.
Georgia has agoraphobia and cannot leave her home.
Paige will help catch Cora’s husband in the act, Cora will help Georgia gain confidence and independence, both Cora and Georgia inadvertently help Paige deal with her overwhelming grief.
The twists are fantastic and the ending beautiful. Thank you so much to the publisher and netgalley for my review copy.
I've read an abundance of suspense books set in neighborhoods. This held my interest and entertained me through the entirety. The narrators consist of three of the neighborhood women. At first readers are told that there has been an unsolved hit and run but we don't know a lot of other details. The author slowly reveals the deepest secrets and the terrible darkness of the neighborhood, layer upon layer. By the end, we find out that nothing is what it seems. The twisty plot delivers more than one surprise and will grip readers right up to the very end.
5 stars for one of my favorite thrillers I have read lately! So much mystery, intrigue and deception in this exclusive community town...
Imagine THE town - the one everyone wants to live in - the houses are absolutely gorgeous, it's beautiful and exclusive and seems just like the perfect neighborhood. But oh how wrong that is.... It begs the question of how well do the neighbors REALLY know each other? What secrets are they hiding behind closed doors? And what lengths would they be willing to go to in order to get the whole truth?
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the digital ARC! I really enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this book! I love a good neighborhood thriller and this one had it all. I also loved how everything tied together at the end, it left no unanswered questions. Highly recommend!!
This is no ordinary neighborhood even though it may appear that way from the outside looking in. This book begins with an accident....or was it? Told from the point of view of 3 different woman, this book is a must read!!
3.5 Stars
Brighton Hills is an exclusive community on the Oregon coast whose beautiful appearance is hiding many secrets – including cheating spouses, drug use, abuse, and maybe even murder! Cora Holman thinks her husband Finn is having an affair and enlists her friend Paige Morretti to help her prove it. Paige agrees, but she has problems of her own. Paige is still grieving the death of her son who was killed in a hit and run a year ago, but she is convinced it was no accident. Can the two women help each other and what is their mysterious neighbor, Georgia, hiding?
This book is told from three points-of-view: Cora, Paige, and Georgia. Both Paige and Cora are curious about their new neighbor Georgia who keeps to herself, raising her baby and rarely leaving the home she shares with her husband Lucas. Everyone in this neighborhood seems to be keeping secrets and these three women are no exception. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, there would be another surprising revelation.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author and as expected, On A Quiet Street is a well-written and suspenseful book. There are also some wonderful moments of humor, especially when Paige is narrating the story. However, the overall mood of this book is sad and there are scenes describing domestic abuse that I found very disturbing. Even the characters who are generally likable make some really strange decisions that are hard to justify. It is clever the way the author connects the stories of all three of the women and everyone’s stories have several twists and turns. The ending is both unexpected and satisfying. Even though I like the suspense and the plot twists, overall the book is darker than I care for. Readers who don’t find domestic violence to be a trigger and who enjoyed Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, may want to give this book a try.

Explosive story of a lovely neighborhood with the lovely people who live in the big houses. Everyone is hiding at least one secret. One of them is stealthily stalking her neighbors looking for those secrets. Wow! It's a page-turner!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Graydon House for this ARC!
If you’ve ever thought that books from Harlequin were just romances, you would be completely wrong. This is my second book from them this week and when I say it was FABULOUS, I’m not lying. So, thank you to the author and publisher for this review copy!
My third book from Seraphina and it was just as AMAZING as her other two! The details, the writing and the way it all came together at the end was so good and kept me on the edge of my seat! It was one of those that you couldn’t put down, but obviously had to due to well, life.
Cora and Paige, friends and neighbors in an exclusive neighborhood that backs up to Douglas firs on the Oregon coast. The neighborhood is one where everyone knows everyone and people genuinely care about one another. It’s also a place where people can hide their worst and get away with it. In comes Georgia, a young Mom who they think has some sort of anxiety that prevents her from leaving her house. They’re all dealing with something but, lies have a way of coming out in the end. Will Paige be able to prove that Cora’s husband is cheating? Will Paige ever get the truth about how or why her son died in a hit and run accident?
Without a doubt, five stars and with a note that’s telling YOU to grab it asap! It’s the perfect weekend read with a nice glass of wine, or whatever you favorite beverage is.
On a Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass is a novel of domestic suspense or one that I think of as a popcorn drama, so much going on you just want to sit back with a bowl of popcorn and watch it unfold. The story in On a Quiet Street is one that is told with multiple points of view between the key characters.
Brighton Hills is a beautiful gated community on the Oregon coast. Paige, Cora and Georgia all live behind those protected gates and all have secrets and lies they would want uncovered.
Paige has just lost her teenage son to what the police have called an accident but Paige knows better. Cora is at constant odds with her teenage daughter and believes her husband may be cheating. And that brings us to Georgia, the new neighbor who seems very antisocial only spending all her time with her young child.
On a Quiet Street by Seraphina Nova Glass is one of those books that once I picked it up I just didn’t want to put it down. The characters in this one certainly stood out on their own as the point of view changed and it was hard to pick a favorite storyline that I wanted to pick back up with as all points of view were engaging and kept the pages turning. This one definitely had me wanting some popcorn as I mentioned and I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns that brought me to the end.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
On the surface, this domestic thriller takes place on a typical, peaceful street in an Oregon coastal neighborhood. But not everything is as it seams with our three main characters: Paige, Cora and
Paige recently lost her adult son Caleb in a hit and run accident on their street. She is grieving deeply and obsessed with finding the perpetrator. Her life has been taken over with spying on her neighbors and breaking in their garages at night to look for clues. This has cost her greatly, including her husband moving out and her reputation. None of this stops her from trying to find the truth about her son’s death.
Cora is an outgoing, enthusiastic women who is a close friend of Paige. She also suspects that her husband Finn is cheating, but she can't seem to prove it. Is he gaslighting her? Or is she obsessive and clingy like he claims? She is constantly questioning herself and struggling to believe her husbands justifications for his suspicious behavior all while trying to connect with her increasingly surly teenage daughter.
Georgia is the most mysterious of the three. She is a new mother and new to the neighborhood having recently married her husband Lucas, and moved from England. The other women women are interested in getting to know her, but find her to be unfriendly, and told that she is agoraphobic. Something just feels off about Georgia to the women, and they just can’t put their finger on why this might be…
The events that quickly unfold between these three women will keep you guessing and on edge! The book offers alternating perspectives between the three women, and this provided important details and kept the story moving quickly. I really enjoyed the women’s relationship with each other (for the most part), and their schemes to help each other and to discover the truth. The characters felt relatable and easy to cheer for. Very much enjoyed the several twists throughout the book! Will absolutely be returning to this author!!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC!
There is no doubt in my mind that this will be one of my top reads of the year!
The book follows three women - Cora, Paige, and Georgia. Cora is convinced her husband is cheating on her even though he vehemently denies it and she has never found any proof. Paige is still grappling the loss of her young adult son in a hit and run the prior year. In her gut, she knows it was more than an accident and that someone in her community either knows something they aren't telling or are even the perpetrator. Georgia is recently married and looks to lead the idyllic life in her beautiful home with her new daughter, but secrets simmer under the surface and all is not as it seems. The three women are thrust together and each step out of their comfort zones and way out of their way in order to help the others.
I loved that this book broke the mold in a lot of ways. There were three separate storylines happening but they intermingled flawlessly. My attention was caught from page 1 and never let up!
I also really liked that the women weren't all best friends from the start. They were very human and flawed and I loved that even though they made some bad decisions, they were ultimately good people and took care of each other.
Admittedly, I guessed some aspects of the plot pretty early on. But it says a lot about a book and the writing that I was still completely enthralled and couldn't put it down. I loved how everything played out, how the relationship among the women developed, and how they each helped each other.
This was a great story about friendship, perseverance, grief, and self-worth. It was also suspenseful and thrilling! It has something for everyone and is definitely a book I will be recommending to everyone!!
Thank you to Graydon House and NetGalley for a copy of this novel.
