Truth. If I had read book 1, I probably would not have read book 2. Ever have a feeling when you're reading a book that the author leaves you hanging on the proverbial cliff, one handed, then gives you a hand up, only to fling you off another cliff at the beginning of the next chapter? THAT is this book. A SIMPLE resolution that obviously slipped past the editor was putting THE CHARACTER"S name at the top header for each chapter. Then it wouldn't take you 2 pages to figure out who was taking now. Had the lead character (Maggie) not been SO SO scatterbrained, it might not have been s bad, but add in her equally scattered sister, and it's chaos. Meanwhile in between there is a decent cozy, but the reader has to struggle to stay on tack to get there.....if you're looking for a challenge, this might be it.

An interesting read! The plot was a little disjointed, I was confused but the abrupt shift in character narratives and timelines. But all in all, I fell in love with the characters, Maggie's eccentricity and Sam's stoicism.

When Maggie Kaye and Sam Dee join the Bishops Well archaeological dig, they are as surprised as everyone else to unearth a body that was buried there less than fifty years ago. It can't possibly be the remains of an ancient Celt.
I really enjoyed this mystery. Maggie and San are wonderful characters.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Headline and #NetGalley for my honest opinion. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

Fun read with charming characters.

Having read the first book in this series and fallen in love with the quirky pairing of Maggie and Sam, I wanted to read this second book. Maggie is mystical in a down-to-earth way. She "sees dead people" mostly the recently passed. Sam is prosaic and goes along with her in a neighbourly way although he is secretly drawn to her in a romantic way This second novel centres more on Maggie's family particularly Maggie's sister who vanished 20 years ago. I found it enjoyable and compulsive reading

Archeological Ruminations…
The second outing in The Shires Mysteries in which the reader is transported to the enchanting Wiltshire village of Bishops Well where Sam Dee has moved fully expecting a more peaceful and serene existence. Things are about to turn sinister, however, when a body is discovered at an archaeological dig. A wholly engaging whodunnit with a colourful cast of characters, an entertaining narrative and a beautiful location. A fun and entertaining read and a worthy follow up to the first in this new series
