I made the mistake of starting this journey when I wasn't going to be able to read straight through. Don't be like me. You're going to want to dedicate the proper amount of uninterrupted reading time.
This was a wild ride that I enjoyed every minute of, except the small flashbacks at the beginning of each chapter. They were confusing to me and I eventually stopped reading them.
Phoebe and Lucien gave me some chills and thrills. This was a different telling of immortals and lineages and the struggle for power and love. I really cannot wait to see what characters we get next.
I found this a hard read to begin with, slow paced at first but after the first few chapters the book really picked up pace!
Fantastic world building and character building with a good plot and a healthy dose of spice!
I enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop and seeing the relationships develop, and the twists!!!
I’ve found it hard to put this book down, a lot of hooks to feed the imagination of where the next book may go with the story lines, I for one will eagerly be awaiting its release.
🌶🌶🌶 out of 5 for spice

The typos, odd spacing, and overwhelming use of !!explanation points!! in the heroine's inner monologue distracted me from the content of the novel. While I respect and cheer on small scale publications that showcase that they can perform on the scale of larger ones, this one was not able to deliver. I have been on the hunt for a well-written paranormal romance with vampires since my preteen days, and unfortunately this did not fit the bill. This reading experience really reminded me of my high school days, where, in my desperation to find this type of content, I sought out paranormal werewolf/vampire stories (especially with fated mate tropes, which I adore when written well) on Wattpad and was consistently disappointed by the subpar writing styles (and therefore deleted the app altogether). The characters were not very memorable or complex, and the presence of, you guessed it, miscommunication tropes and abusive and manipulative behaviors disguised as being a "silly possessive, alpha male" really sealed the deal that this read was not for me.
Thank you NetGalley, Rose and Star Publishing, and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a dark steamy read. Those who grew up reading twilight and took a turn down the dark and twisted path will love this book. I really enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend.
This is an honest review based on a copy received through NetGalley.
"Queen of Vampire Hearts" is a witch/vampire fated-mates, spicy fantasy romance. The plot is similar to "A Discovery of Witches" by Deborah Harkness. It would also be a great fit for anyone looking for something like the PNR/Fantasy Romance written by Jennifer Armentrout, K.F. Breene, Gena Showalter, or Scarlett St. Clair.
However, this book is different in that it starts with a heavy dose of spice and then occurs with more frequency and is more explicit in description and dialogue (Lucien is quite verbal) than the more popular books in this genre. The scenes are similar to each other, so there isn't much variation in activities, but they're frequent.
As with most fantasy, there is some world-building and backstory in the beginning, which can take a little while to draw you in. If you're primarily a romance reader, that may seem slow to you, but the relationship soon takes off after they come together.
I really enjoyed the backstory of how the Gods made the first witch and first vampire, the Lycan friends, and the enchanted castle.
I wavered between 2.5-3 stars on this because it wasn't the most unique plot and recycled a lot of the tropes in the same way as other books. However, that might make it a good comfort read. The writing was also redundant and I found missing words and confusing syntax at times. The tense switched between past and present a few times, though a couple of instances seemed to be internal thoughts of a character and could have used italics to help differentiate it. The dialogue brought me out of the story a few times, as it read scripted like a parody of the genre, and sometimes the banter was less witty and more cliched.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read and is probably the level of spice many people wished for in some of the other slow-burn fantasy romances. The spice definitely sets it apart from those.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did at the start, but once I got into it the pace really picked up and had me gripped. I love a fated mate book, I love the anxiety free read as I know they will be together, not that their isn’t drama or tension but it’s a comfort read to me. I loved the world building and the character development. If you love vampires , shifters and witches, love fated mates then this is the book for you, I thoroughly recommend this.

Phoebe has been on the run for a decade, never staying in one place long enough to put down roots. In her quest of searching for the one who betrayed her in hopes of clearing her name, she stumbles upon her fated mate.
Lucien, king of vampires, has been alive for 10,000 years, each with increasing boredom with only lovers and war to keep him company until he stumbles upon his mate at a party.
While neither of them can deny the force pulling them together, Phoebe has five rules that have kept her alive while on the run. Rule #1: Trust no one.
With Phoebe determined to fight Lucien at every turn, desperate not to lose her, he forces her back to his castle to live with him in hopes that she’ll let down her walls and let him protect her from the people that seek to end her life.
Personally, it was slow to get into, but once I did, it was hard to put down. We get mystery not only from Phoebe’s side of the story, but from Lucien’s side as well. Phoebe seemed better written in the beginning, but once Lucien gets passed his initial obsession, it was cute to see the big bad vampire worry about how to make his mate stay with him. Lucien may be strong in every other aspect of his life, but when it comes to his love life, he’s an absolute mess. Having never needed nor wanted to make a woman come to him or fall in love with him for that matter, he’s completely lost. Underneath that hard exterior, he’s a huge softie.
Phoebe is a fierce and quirky heroine that trusts no one having to be used to taking care of herself. While Phoebe wants to keep her guard up around everyone, Lucien included, she can’t help but let him in; knowing subconsciously that he’s the one person who can keep her safe and allow her to set down the roots she so desperately wants to.
Certain aspects of the book reminded me of “A Discovery of Witches”, but it has everything you could ever want.
Forbidden Romance?
Fated Mates?
Enemies to Lovers?
Magic?
Spice?
There are some transitional work that needs to be done when transitioning from scene to scene or with action happening within a scene. The more actional scenes happened very suddenly and it would greatly improve the flow of story if they’d transitioned better. There were also a couple of grammatical errors, but nothing too major. The main issue I had was the repeating of her rules so frequently. It seemed to happen at every possible turn that at least there’s no way you could forget them.
Overall, I absolutely loved it. The world building is very interesting, drawing from different mythologies. It makes for an intriguing story that you won’t be disappointed in. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and delving more into this world.
Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Recommendation: If you’re looking for a good paranormal romance with great world building, look no further! I’d recommend this to lovers of the genre, including fantasy lovers as well!
While this book was spicy as heck, by the time Lucien and Phoebe actually had sex, I was bored with it. The scenes felt redundant. Now, the rest of the story? Interesting. I liked the premise and I felt compelled to keep reading. The werewolves were great character editions and Cassie was so cooky and perfect. However, for being ten thousand years old, Lucien certainly doesn’t act like he has that much life experience, he acts like a 30 year old. I thought he was supposed to be this cruel person. Where was he? Suddenly he loses all of his “hardness” because he’s met his mate? Not bloody likely. I feel like a lot of the conflict at the climax could have been avoided if both Phoebe and Lucien had stopped having sex for more than two seconds and actually had a conversation. The miscommunication (or whatever you want to call it) is not my favorite, but for everything to pan out the way that it did, it was a given that it was going to happen. My last complaint: Phoebe declared that she didn’t want the title of Witch Queen but then turned around and declared herself just that. It seemed to me that her only reason for changing her mind was as an act of vengeance when really she had ideas to make the Coven better. If she had gone about the back-half of her take over a little better, maybe she wouldn’t have instilled as much fear into people. It just goes to show how much she still has to learn.
That being said, I will be reading book two because Lycan-Vampy hybrid is sweet and I want to see more of the hot werewolves. And of course missing people in coffins.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to have access to an eARC for this book in return for an honest review.
Apologies for taking so long with the feedback.
This was a fun and fast pacing book with intreiging characters and great character relationships. I love vampire books and this one is no exception as I loved this and honestly am speechless about my thoughts of this book.
New to me author Ms. Rose pulls me into this world of broken witches, lethal vampires, and drunken werewolves. Not to mention the orgy-loving fae. I read the forward of this book where the author mentions her parents' support. Kudos to her for having her parents read her book because it is quite racy. Love the fact that her father tells all his clients about her book as well as her mom still being able to look her in the eye. With a start like that, I am set in a good frame of mind to read this book.
Whilst there are several deliciously erotic scenes between Phoebe and Lucien, it is more than a fated mate getting down and dirty. I am pleasantly surprised by the character development and what I believe is going to be a character progression growth for Phoebe in the following books. The world-building is nicely done as it weaves a different interpretation of how the paranormal beings came to life with a Greek mythos foundation.
The character building in this book works for me because most of the people are neither completely good nor bad. No one seems to be perfect either. Lucien may be over 10,000 years old but he still has a few flaws. Phoebe is a very young witch and her maturity level reflects her age. The sexual heat between the two is smoking hot. Their sexual attraction helps them communicate at some level because otherwise, Phoebe is a runner who would disappear on Lucien. She follows five rules ever since she's been on the run because they have kept her alive. With Lucien, the rules are harder and harder to stick with because he confuses her logic.
I understand why Phoebe is hesitant to trust. Just as I understand why Lucien wants to keep Phoebe locked by his side. Whilst this plot device felt a little too dragged out for me, it did make sense and worked for the storyline. Let's discuss sex.
I specifically picked this book up because it is marketed under erotica. I can definitely attest the sex in this story is frequent and good. The story kind of starts up with an orgy. I enjoy the teasing, sexual power exchange between Phoebe and Lucien. Ms. Rose builds up the heat before she finally lets the two get it on completely. This flirting and at times cock blocking increase the sexual tension. I like it. I also like how easygoing they can be with each other during sex. There are no hangups. There is no "other person" plot device. Lucien is definitely a possessive and jealous alpha male. For those who like that type of male, this book will be right up your alley. There is no kinky sex but it isn't straight on vanilla.
Whilst all the sex shenanigans are going on, there is a nefarious plot afoot. Phoebe is caught in the middle and whilst it would seem that Lucien would be her knight in shining armour, let's just say, Phoebe can take care of herself. I am interested to see what will happen next. Looking forward to the next book in this series. This erotic romance is recommended to paranormal readers who like fated mate themes with a spunky witch and a vampire suffering ennui.

Thoughts 💭 | If you are a fan of fated mates, mystery family origins, and some steam this book may be right up your alley! I loved the mystery surrounding Phoebe and why she was being hunted by the Witch’s Council. I also loved the fated mates trope in this book and could really see how Lucien was struggling to adjust to the realization that he found his mate and how in the world to win her over when he really had no idea how to have a legit relationship. Book starts with an orgy, so I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say he was used to a more casual situation. 🤣 I felt like a lot of the tension in the plot was a result of miscommunication and at times character traits and goals seemed inconsistent to me which is why I didn’t rate this higher. That being said, overall, I thought this was a fun story and I will keep an eye on this author because I’m thinking the series will just continue to get better!

Thank you to Netgalley and Rose and Star Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC. This honest review was based off my experience reading an ARC, which in no way biased me.
Overall this was an enjoyable read. It was engaging and entertaining but on a surface level. The more I think deeper into the plot, characters, etc the more I am confused/frustrated.
This is a fated mates situation where the 10 thousand year old Vampire King Lucien, takes a bounty from the Witch’s Council to capture or kill a witch that seems to have evaded their efforts for TEN WHOLE YEARS. And of course as fate would have it the person he’s meant to be hunting is his mate.
Here’s the thing. He’s so caught up on finding her because he is her mate that the whole bounty gets completely forgotten until like the last 20%, for about 70% of the book there’s no mention of it. Like come on you’re going to put that in there and you’re not going to have this whole I’m hunting for the person who is my mate and also who ever the bounty is and have a cool realization moment? A bit of a waste there in my opinion.
So age wise we have a 10,000+ year old vampire, (which fair he’s the first born vampire. Makes sense) and then we have a 31 year old fugitive witch on the run after escaping her execution. Let me tell you, I had more issues believing Phoebe was 31, especially with the voice/choice of words/phrases of her dialogue and mainly her inner monologue. To be honest, she read like a 20-25 year old, and this meant a LOT, and I mean a lot of cheesy/cringe lines. I will say Lucien being as old as he is and rejecting technology was actually pretty hilarious.
Surface level these main characters have a lot of chemistry but cannot seem to actually talk about themselves or what they’re feeling towards each other to each other. I completely understand the trust, abandonment, and commitment issues respectively (because they were mentioned like a thousand times but I’ll get to that), but the way they got over them were as if a switched was flipped. Little to no development, they just got over their issues like POOF, I trust you now. I will say Lucien had a bit more development with his abandonment issues than Phoebe did with her trust/commitment issues. Also, when unfortunately Lucien fucked up, they wallowed he apologized and she forgave him instantly. (You see what I mean here when you think about it deeper it gets frustrating?)
Let me jump back to the REPETITION. Things were mentioned in the same way, so many times. Like I understood she was betrayed before, and he was abandoned before, and etc. the first couple times it was said in the text, no need to keep repeating it OVER AND OVER to drive those points home.
Also the realization that he could help her and she was his bounty happened a whole
a lot later than I thought it would have happened. Like since it was introduced pretty early in the book I thought it would have more important to the plot.
The pacing was kind of all over the place. I’m not sure how to explain this one. It both felt very fast and very slow at times. Like slow during filler scenes and fast through important plot/character scenes.
All of this being said, I still enjoyed this book and give it 3.5 stars (rounding down to 3), I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was. I am curious enough possibly to pick up the other books in the series.
I absolutely devoured this book. It was everything I look for when reading a paranormal romance- spice (lots and lots of spiciness aka smut), a hero that would do anything for his girl and fated mates. I was a bit apprehensive when I started reading because I feared that this book would end on a cliffhanger but thankfully it did not. Instead the author masterfully included a new story line with a character that by the end of the book became quite beloved! (He was a werewolf, so I cannot wait to read his story, if indeed it is next). My one qualm about this book was the frequent usage of modern language spoken by a very ancient vampire. But other than that, this was an enjoyable read! This book stood out from my usual paranormal reads because of the feisty heroine, man did she make this vampire work for it! I loved that about her so much!
Synopsis: Lucian is the King of the Vampires and he is bored. That is how the book starts. Did I mention that he is bored at an orgy? Yes. The book begins at a massive sex fest, and its pretty good. I digress, please note that there is no cheating in this book, and Lucian did not engage anyone other than the heroine, Phoebe at this orgy. In fact folks that is how they met! A hot not sex session later, Lucian was obsessed...but not enough to get her name before being called away. Upon looking for Phoebe, he realising she is gone and that she is his FATED MATE, aka the love of his life, his queen and future mother of his kids. And this is where the story starts getting juicy, because Phoebe is a powerful witch on the run and her species doesn't usually get along with vampires. Did I mention that she's on the run...with serious trust issues? She leads Lucian on a merry little chase and a wonderful adventure. Prepare for a happy ever after with the cutest ever POWER couple.
Please read this book if you love vampires, witches, gods, goddesses, werewolves, fantasy and romance! This book has a little of everything (and a lot of smexy scenes). You definitely won't regret reading this! Fans of Kresley Cole...this is the book for you!
Thank you Net Galley for kindly providing a copy of this book for me to review! Happy reading all!
The story grabs you from the beginning. You literally are grabbed through the main male character, Lucien’s boredom of life after living for so long. He is literally planning to go to war just to alleviate his boredom when he meets the main female character, Phoebe. Then chaos begins. What I love about the story is how funny and colorful phoebe is compared to Lucien. But he’s your typical Alpha male. My issues with the story was the lack of communication. There were three issues hanging over their heads. Two could have been handle if they just talked like honestly but your cards on the table talk. The third need to continue to build the story up more but the first two could help them understand each other more throughout the story especially after the first brush with death. Just my opinion. Other than that, it was a good story. I’m interested in seeing where the author goes with book two. Will it remain with these characters? Or from another’s the point of view?
Hope you enjoy it.
And as always Happy Reading!!
This fantasy novel was well written and immensely intriguing. When a witch on the run and a vampire king cross paths trust is tested and fate is brought to light. Lucien soon becomes the one person who could protect Phoebe from the enemies that are closing in. But she doesn't make an alliance between then easy.
She refuses to share any part of her past with Lucien, and pushes him away at every opportunity. But she soon becomes unable to resist the chemistry that explodes whenever they are together. When she is forced back to his castle in Romania to live as his Queen, she starts to forget the rules that have kept her safe… until the secrets that Lucien has been hiding remind her why she created them in the first place.
This story was addicting from the very first page, and I couldn't get enough of it. Thank you NetGalley for any arc of this novel.
Queen of vampire hearts by Jeanette Rose.
Fated loves book 1.
Phoebe Atreus is a witch on the run, her carefully crafted rules have kept her alive for the last decade, each one a product of a hard learned lesson. Rule Number One? Trust No One. She's been betrayed one time too many to put her faith in anyone else's hands. Even if the legendary vampire king might be the one person who could protect her from the enemies always one step behind.
A really good read with good characters. I liked Phoebe character. Great story and characters. 4*.
“Rule No. 1: Trust no one.”
Queen of Vampire Hearts is a paranormal fantasy romance about Phoebe, a witch who is on the run, and Lucien, a ten-thousand-year old vampire.
Lucien, after centuries of immortality, has grown bored of his existence. He travels through realms in search of something to cure his boredom. One night, he attends an event in the Fae Realm and meets a mysterious woman who incites excitement and emotions the King of Vampires have long buried. But, just before their tryst develops further, Lucien is called away and the mysterious vixen disappears from the realm, along with Lucien’s heart.
Phoebe is a young witch on the run from the Witch Council and every magical creature is trying to capture her for bounty. She travels to the Fae Realm to gather information regarding her ex-boyfriend who betrayed her and stole her family grimoires — a witch’s most treasured object. But on that night, instead of information, she finds Lucien. She feels a strong magnetic pull towards him, wanting to be around him, despite her rules for survival. But a girl on the run can’t have any attachments…
What happens when the King of Vampire with abandonment issues finds his fated mate to a witch with a penchant for running away? Will Phoebe find it in her to trust Lucien when she has been betrayed one to many times?
I actually didn’t expect to enjoy this book especially when the beginning chapter is about a male complaining about how bored he is while watching a massive orgy happening. That’s just not enticing to read. But man, the story got better fast. I really enjoyed the pacing - it was the right amount of world building, action, and romance. It was a little predictable only because it’s a “fated mate” story, you kinda just know that they’ll end up together. Still, I found that there was enough conflict to keep the plot interesting. I also enjoyed the character development, more so on Lucien’s end than Phoebe’s. I enjoyed their dynamic and how the romance unfolds, especially the flip on how the male character is the one with abandonment issues and is the clingy one instead of the female character. I also loved the whole, “I will kill everyone who hurt you” trope, just love it!
If you are looking for a fated mate/lovers fantasy romance, loves vampires and witches, even lycans, I highly recommend this book! It was an easy read with the right amount of smut, action, and conflict to keep a reader entertained.
Vampire and witch enemies to lovers? Yes please! This was SUCH a good romantasy! I loved how the author weaved in greek mythology into the backstory of the world. The main characters were so intriguing and had great personalities. It was fast paced and had great plot twists. I couldn't put it down!
Unfortunately I am DNFing this one. This book, from the first chapter, is going to be full of smut. That is not something I typically reach for, but I know there is definitely an audience for it! I think people will enjoy this book, it just wasn’t for me.
If you love romance books with a paraormal element then this book is for you, witches, werewolves, vampires what more could you need. It was well written with a good storyline and good characters. An enjoyable read.
