Many thanks to NetGalley, William Morrow, and Kirsten Miller for an ARC of this book.

I was delighted as I found myself tearing through this book. The women of The Change come together to channel their feminine rage into magic, punishing the men in town who abuse their power. I can't wait to read more Kirsten Miller.

This book is such a popcorn read — the kind you can’t put down and find yourself cheering out loud for! I loved watching these women, who everyone else has overlooked or dismissed, step into their power and refuse to stay quiet. It’s sharp, mysterious, and totally satisfying. The story mixes real-life struggles with a little bit of magic and a lot of grit, as these women come together to fight for justice when no one else will. Definitely a must-read for anyone who loves stories about strong women taking back control — and a reminder that middle age is just the beginning.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading The Change but what I read sure wasn't it! I was sucked in from the first couple of chapters. I found myself relating to Nessa, Jo, and Harriet in ways that surprised me. If you love reading about bad ass women this is the book for you!

This is my second Kristin Miller book, and her writing style is very distinctive. Overall, this was a very potty novel on three main characters who each have a semi magical power that they are using to identify and punish those responsible for the deaths of three young girls. There’s a really large cast of supporting characters, ranging from relatives of the women to the girls themselves, to the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. The last quarter of the book moves at a quick pace, and though I ultimately predicted where this was going, I still found it entertaining.

I’m not a big magical realism fan and often for my books rooted in reality, but this was just the right amount of magic for me to enjoy. Harriet’s magic comes from her understanding of botany and insects, Jo’s magic comes from her physical strength, and Nessa‘s magic comes from her ability to see the dead - certainly the most “magical” of them.

What I appreciate most about Kristin’s books is the message, and this novel constantly reiterated the underlying note that women are not protected - and often not respected - in the world, and no matter how careful they may try to be, the threats against women’s safety are all over. Similar to her other book I read, this message was a bit heavy-handed, which I didn’t fully appreciate.

In general, this was a quick, compelling read that was pretty fun. Thank you to Net Galley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

*I own a physical copy*

In 2019 my health started going down hill and I didn't take into consideration what that would mean for my book reviewing. Sadly, I've been trying to play catch up for years and it's been affecting my ability to keep up with present day tasks. So I greatly apologize for this but I am going to clear out all these older review books and focus on present day. I will come back and update this review if I end up reading the book, which is very possible as a lot of these books are still ones I would like to read, I just don't think the pressure looming over me is helpful. Thank you for giving me a chance to early read these books and I am so sorry I wasn't able to provide what was needed.

I think this was the book I needed to read at this time in my life. Being perimenopausal and having adhd, I feel like these women were my people. I loved the evolution of all the characters, I really thought that Miller did a phenomenal job with the time jumping and giving us every part of these women’s journeys. I’m struggling with the what genre this would be… it was to the core a mystery/thriller, but then there was so much magical realism in here that it felt like a fantasy! I absolutely loved it! Highly recommend! Thank you Harper Collins for this edition in exchange for an honest review!

Wow, The Change by Kirsten Miller completely blew me away! From the moment I started reading, I was hooked. The premise of three women discovering their hidden powers as they navigate the challenges of life in their 40s is so unique and refreshing. Miller does an incredible job of blending mystery, suspense, and a touch of magical realism, all while tackling important themes like empowerment, self-discovery, and justice.

The characters are fantastic—each one is distinct, well-developed, and relatable. I loved how their personal journeys were woven together, and the friendship that develops between them is so heartwarming. The plot kept me turning pages, with plenty of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and the final reveal was just chef’s kiss.

What really stood out to me was the sense of fun and empowerment in this book. It felt like a celebration of women finding their strength and taking control, and I found that incredibly inspiring. Miller’s writing is sharp, witty, and engaging. If you’re looking for a thrilling, thought-provoking read with a little magic and a lot of heart, this is definitely one to pick up. Highly recommend!

This was one of the most interesting and weird books I have ever read. It involves a story line I have never read about nor even thought about and it was interesting the entire way through. If life didn't get in the way, I could have probably read it in one sitting. It is about three witches who have gone through "the change" and they each have powers that work together to bring justice to murdered young women in their town of Mattuak. I'm not even sure they all knew their own powers before they had to present them to the other women because there was obviously something evil happening in their town...they had to work together to figure out who all was involved and how to stop it from happening in the future. There were definitely some surprises thrown in there as well that I did not see coming.

Who would ever of thought that surviving menopause would give you super powers? Only the women who survived!!! A unique look at how life and the uncontrollable results of a woman aging could put them into a position of power, allowing them to be all they ever thought they could be!! These three women use their newly gained knowledge and skills to take their town back to the decent place to live they had always thought it was. With little help from others, they will change their little corner of the world for the best. This book is one of those.....the ones you read then share with everyone you know.

Three women in Mattauk experience some significant changes as they go through midlife changes. Nessa James begins to hear voices, Harriett Osborn can manipulate growing things and has an encyclopedic knowledge of what those things can do. Jo Levison is able to channel her anger into a power that would blow anyone away. The three women end up teaming up in this novel, to find the bodies of young women who have been killed and unlock the mystery of who was behind their deaths, as the police are not doing anything to bring peace to the families and allow these young women to be put to rest.

This book was part feminist literature, part thriller, and part supernatural. It was an interesting take on women going through menopause and changes in their lives and how they get their power back... or in this case literally get their power to begin with. I found myself very much into the story of these women. I did not love the character of Harriett Osborn, but the other two women were endearing and more likeable. As the story switches between the points of view of each of these women, you learned more about their history and how they came to be the badass women they were in the story. I found this book to be quite original and I loved these badass women taking on the corrupt and evil men in their world. I highly recommend this novel!

Thank you to Netgalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you @netgalley @kirstenmillerbooks @williammorrowbooks for a free copy of The Change. Yes, I am late, as this came out over two years ago, but I’ll tell you it was also a right on time read for me!

Amanda @wellreadwyvern and I decided to buddy up for this one a few weeks back, and it felt really good pulling it off of my shelf. I had a feeling it would give women empowerment and witchy vibes, but what I didn’t expect was the missing girls/thriller element. Sometimes going in without reading the synopses pays off with a little surprise and delight 😅🤣

I had gotten the impression that this was mostly about women going through menopause. I don’t know if that’s because the little tagline says, “it’s not over. It’s time,” or what. It actually is a story of three women and stories of womanhood at all ages and perspectives, but definitely does lean into using your age and wisdom as power in your second half of life. As someone who is rapidly approaching 40, still feeling connected to who I once was and with my sights on who I will still become, I found all of this very beautiful and relevant. With the missing girls’ stories, we see that women’s experiences aren’t only impacted by gender, but by ethnicity and economic class, too.

I really liked this a lot. I think it got a touch long for me in last 15% of the book, but I was really very impressed with it overall. It definitely has some eerie fall vibes if you’re still looking for a book to wrap up October reading with! 🍁 🍂PS Kirsten Miller is a good follow on IG IMO

In this entertaining thriller, menopause becomes a catalyst for newfound powers and empowerment for three women. Harriett Osborne embraces her botanical talents after ditching her career and husband, while Jo Levison channels her fiery rage into a successful fitness business. Nessa James grapples with her gift of communicating with the dead in their quaint beach town of Mattauk, where a shocking discovery leads them to confront deep-seated corruption. When I heard this was on net galley, I ran to get it after the initial buzz on Instagram. To be honest, the length of the book prevented me from picking it up for some time since I knew I wouldn’t want to put it down.

It was certainly worth the wait. The character backstories were incredibly well down and I was kept on the edge of my seat for pretty much the whole time. Know it’s a twist of an old tale but super original and loved it!

I adored this book. Kirsten Miller created unique characters that are lovable and relatable. I could not put this book down. I was so happy to have a book where grown adult women were finding out new things about themselves and developing magic. It's so wonderful so see the amazing change in women of ALL ages, not just teens in YA books. I would love to see another book in this world or something similar from this author.

This fun book is a mix between Big Little Lies and The Witches of Eastwick! It was a hit with 2 of my book clubs as well.
