Primary characters are three successful, creative women, Harriett, Jo, and Nessa. Nessa James is a nurse whose police officer husband died over ten years ago. She's dedicated her life to her two daughters who have now left for college. Jo Levinson now suffers from the onset of dreaded menopause. The heated energy wafting from her body in the wee hours could light up Time Square. Harriett Osborne had an amazing career in advertising until she, too, got ambushed by the powers that be and by her own husband. Mattauk, New York boasts of a fine community with beach access and lawns trimmed to perfection. You'll meet its individuals with some citizens who care more than others. But something dreadful will have the residents eyeing one another and searching for answers. The Change is a wonderfully written novel that heralds the oncoming of women who still maintain their strength, their inner verve, and their massive lightning bolt of intelligence tested at any given moment. One woman is a raindrop, but pooled together, they create a reckoning thunderstorm. All three women have their own story line and bring a unique power to the mix as they try to solve a serial murder while using them. Each one is strong, different and so developed I felt I really knew them by the end. Even the villains, side characters and plants had a story line. This book was a wild ride. Each of the main characters had their own special story and you felt proud how they rose up and made this story their own. Beautifully written and holds you till the end.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity.

Wow was this book exactly what I wanted and more. Witchy, feminist, and a plot line that just wouldn't stop. I wish this was a series so I could be put into the character's lives over and over again. LOVE!!

This book is a little bit fantasy, a little bit suspense, and a lot of female empowerment. A trio of women come into their special powers as they hit midlife. It was dramatic but funny and the characters were so real. I was sad when the story ended and I had to say good bye.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC of The Change by Kristen Miller. This was so different, and not my typical genre. However, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Change! It was a suspenseful celebration of the power of women, as three gather to seek retribution. There are serious themes addressed in the book, but also moments of pure fun! The premise is so clever, and it all comes together beautifully. A perfect autumnal read!

Three woman unite to solve the mystery where the justice system has failed. Nessa, a former nurse, hears the voices of the dead. Harriet, the neighborhood "witch" who loves to garden. Jo, the chronic exerciser who uses workout to channel her rage. Three woman, one murder, and tons of secrets.

I absolutely loved this book. It was the perfect combination of magic realism and mystery. I couldn't stop reading. I never knew what was going to happen. I am so so impressed with this book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

maybe it's where i'm at in life but i thoroughly enjoyed The Change.

the writing is solid, the characters specific and interesting & there is a subversive humor that makes the magical-realism work for me (i'm not usually a fan of that genre).

I thought I would love this book however I read about 40% and found it wasn't for me. Unfortunately I had to DNF this one.

This book was insane. I was sucked in after just a few pages. Since finishing it I've gone back and reread sections that I loved because it's THAT DAMN good.

When I first started reading, this had a Witches of Eastwick vibe. I loved that the main characters were all female and each possessed a type of superpower. A cross between a crime thriller and magical fantasy it will definitely hold your attention.

Nessa finds herself in a new spot in life….. along with this new spot comes new opportunities. I really enjoyed this book, it was the perfect mix of magic and mystery. Nessa hones in on her on her abilities and takes you with her through a murder investigation. I was interested the whole time and glad I made time for this read. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family!

This one is one of my long overdue ARC’s that I am actually really mad I didn’t read sooner.

This book was amazing. I listened to it while at work and I couldn’t stop once I started. The synopsis was a bit odd, not gonna lie. But it is so much more than I think it was portrayed. We got mystery, thriller, good ole boys going down (I mean honestly, who doesn’t love that?), women finding friendship and the main theme of strong independent women who don’t need a man to be successful. All in all, I was here for it.

Harriet was by far my favorite character. Every interaction with her just made me smile and sometimes laugh out loud. I loved trying to envision her crazy overgrown yard. And the way she puts men who think they are smarter than her in their place? Love love.

I am never one to immediately pickup the “suspect” in books so that plot twist in the last two chapters had my mouth dropping open. Just absolutely bananas. The whole main mystery/thriller made me feel icky the whole time. The fact it’s something that is very real just makes me sad 🥺

Highly recommend this one!

Conceptually, I thought I'd love this book but as I got reading, it just wasn't for me. I was pretty apathetic toward all of the characters and though it may be prude of me, I found the graphic menstruation descriptions to be far more than necessary to capture the point. Based on that alone, this isn't something I'd likely recommend.

Did not finish. I just could not get in to this one. I read the description and new it was coming, but the idea of gaining powers during meopause was just a little too much for me. I'm not much into the fantasy/magical genre, so it's a no for me.

Did not finish.

I don't know what I expected from The Change, but it wasn't all the man hating. Literally every male side character was a terrible person. Either a cheating husband, or a misogynist utilizing weaponized incompetence, or the HOA president wielding his power like a dictator.

And I don't vibe with that. So early on The Change got added to my list of DNF.

Reading the synopsis for this got me psyched up. However the actual story was a little odd for me. Women developing super powers during menopause and being fed up with men? I mean I’m all for female empowering and books where we don’t come off as a weak, but this one was odd. Unique, a touch fantasy, a touch thriller, and has an older cast. That was my favorite part personally. A cast closer to my age.

DNF for me! I didn't enjoy the writing style or the plot line at all. This would be better suited for someone else.

The concept for this book is so unique and it has a vibe the same as KILLERS OF A CERTAIN AGE, I am excited to read more of this genre and more from this author.

A great long read. Three Women dishing out revenge each with their own special ‘talent’. I found it hard to put down. Thanks NetGalley for the audio eArc.
